For readers who didn't catch the last news, here it is again: As a designer, It was a horror time last year for me (with 4 diseases at the same time!) and the lost of several devs because of financial problems, but now i can develop fulltime on Dead Age: Survivors with currently 50% Status together with Simone, a new italien programmer, Sandro (my best friend and a good artist) and a few part time programmers as fully independent Silent Dreams 2.0. It will take more time because we work private indie style, so don't get impatient summer 2025 a demo. Dead Age Survivors should be released in 2026.   • I have time for new quests, a new faction "The Lost Ones" and events that weren't even planned!
  • The combat needs some improvements and we want to get that under control and have cool (small) teams of about 10 people compete against each other to conquer or defend territories. But the troop combat still has to be realized.
  • I play the version all the time, so the version will have only a few bugs once we go into Early Access
  • We will start a Kickstarter campaign before Early Access, we will then use this money to bridge the development time until release. Maybe we'll also get a few extra features, e.g. a little voice overs. ;-).
You will see, the long time is our friend to make our darned seventh RPG Dead Age: Survivors really good. We want to create the best Dead Age experience. First of all, the bad news. Silent Dreams went bankrupt after 18 years and 6 released RPGs due to financial problems and most of the people had to look for new jobs. It was a horror time for me (with 4 diseases at the same time!) because Silent Dreams is my baby (like the captain and his ship ;-)) but in the end it wasn't that bad. A real life indie story about hard times and ascent. I am now unemployed, but a real fighter. Since I used to have a bigger team and had todo with lot of gamedesign and project management, I've spent the last few months learning how to script quests, which was previously done by a programmer. Here you can see what it looks like. In principle you will be overwhelmed with information at the beginning, but if you work your way from note to note, you will gradually understand how many possibilities our quest and event system has. Dead Age: Survivors December 2023 News Update

It's still a bit too early for new footage, we're in the process of changing the invisible "random battles" to a few random enemies on the map that move from round to round and can sometimes be dodged. Our new lead programmer Rao and Quest programmer Huaxia are part of the changed team from 2023 and both from China who are studying in Germany. Fitting, because next to the USA and Germany, China is our largest part of the Dead Age playerbase. More infos about our team will come in the next news.
What else have we done? An important part of the storyline is managed (some mean ideas ^^), many Ui, rooms in the base and and lots of loot locations. Human trafficking has been implemented to get the important random survivors with money or by using quests, which are needed for conquering territories and working in several bases. The very fast conquest system on the map is inspired by the classic Defender of the Crown, Me - Rayk, the designer, played it on Amiga 500 as a boy, who hardly wanted to go to school, but had plenty of Amiga games to play ;) . But there are numerous classes for the survivors so that they can be trained as soldiers or workers in the bases. But don't worry, Dead Age: Survivors remains an RPG with the new new strategy features. In addition to the random survivors, there is of course also a group of heroes with storylines. The portraits you can see are of the important story survivors Ava and Frank. - This time there will also be more conversations in the camp, as requested by many players. While Ava searches for his lost sister and brother, Frank has an even tougher fate, which will put his psyche to the test. This makes me realise that new values exist, namely stress and motivation. While strokes of fate and bad decisions can lead to negative values, in new rooms, the regeneration with an indoor pool and massage benches can repair the stress value and Trish's famous bar with lots of beer or wine repair the motivation. Just like in reality *cough*. Release for Dead Age: Survivors will be back on Early Access first and should be possible by the end of 2024, as long as we don't delay too much in the next features like the more complex combat. Dead Age: Survivors gets turn-based combat

Version 1.1.7. This new feature will reduce frustration!

Again and again we have the situation that players are upset about the permadeath, especially if the player dies first, for example, after 30-40 hours, it is frustrating. And I admit it honestly, I wouldn't feel any different after playing for so long. For the next new Dead Age, we came up with a new idea that lowers the frustration, but you still remain mortal. Now we thought we'd offer the same option for Dead Age 2 Version 1.1.7 It works like this, when the player dies for the first time, a Revival Set is activated. this heals the player by 40%. Now comes a warning that says you need a new kit. In Dead Age 2 you can buy such high-tech kits only once in each U.S. Army base for a lot of dollars. (500 dollars) If you still die you can increase the healing rate of the revival set by upgrading the medicine and increase the amount by 1. The first death is the worst, because many players were completely shocked by it, not even knowing that the game has a permadeath feature. So after the first death you are warned and the thrill remains. The idea was that you need to raise a lot of money to ensure the safety of a Revival set and this will need hard work for this. But be warned that the story characters like Sarah, Tessa, Isa, Lance, Fernando can still die forever when they die. Here, however, we had thought of some characters that will later come to your camp when one of the story characters dies, but they no longer have a story. So be careful! I hope that this will eliminate the frustration for you and still keep the survival thrill.   • NEW: We have fixed some errors in the English translation. Thanks to the community.
  • NEW: Since we are currently implementing Dead Age 2 on Playstation 4 & 5 and Xbox X and Xbox S, we have improved the controller controls.
  • NEW: We have slightly reduced the critical hit damage so that you are not too surprised when a strong monster hits your characters
  • We have reduced the block chance of many zombies, especially in the later levels. So that you now have much better chances with one hit skills. However, there are still some specialists who are particularly good at blocking, here ranged attacks are recommended.
  • The chance of some skills was increased e.g. Brute Strike, Nerve Strike and Shock grenade

Only if you look at e.g. the tooltips of the opponents the game can be paused to have enough time to read which tactics or buffs the opponent has. We are trying to go a new way here that no other game has done in this form. In the next few months we will find out if the combat system is as fun as I envisioned it in my head. xD.

The next Dead Age At the moment we are finishing the prototype phase for the new Dead Age, we are still fine-tuning the prototype and we are also working on an implementation of Dead Age 2 for Playstation 4 & 5 and probably Xbox as well. Right now we are in a prototype phase, but we are pretty sure about most of the design points. This will be followed by another 2.5 years of development until 2024. Here's the updated list of what we're planning to include and it's a lot of work with increased budget and team size.

  • The next Dead Age will remain a role-playing game, but there will be more focus on strategy and some simulation.
  • NEW small with up to 3 survivors but also big battles with up to 18 survivors against waves of enemies, this time in real time in the style of Dragon Age 1 or Pathfinder but with a few differences. We are not trying to integrate a pause mode, but a slow-motion mode in the style of Fallout. This slow-motion skill can only be used infrequently, so the game feels faster overall. The next Dead Age Right now we are in a prototype phase, but we are pretty sure about most of the design points. This will be followed by another 2.5 years of development until 2024. Here's a small list of what we're planning to include.

    Planned Features

  • added a tryfix for rare situations when the player gets stuck during the transition to a room inside an outpost (if you have this situation after our latest update, please talk to us!!!)
  • fixed Independent's Light Armor's torso model was not rendered when the main char had dark skin color
  • added a safety check when loading a save to makes sure all completed achievements are send to the Steam API (some people had missing Steam achievements despite the ingame achievements triggering correctly)
  • added a new dialogue line to Trevor (merchant in Forest Grave) to help in case he dismisses the player because his first mission is not yet completed
  • fixed a crash that could occur during combat when an enemy triggered a counter attack while already being killed by trap damage

  • adjusted the starting skill points for Hank and Jane when they join the player to make them more adjusted to the skill levels of other survivors
  • added a few more attraction areas on UI elements for the virtual cursor in controller mode
    Bugfixes
  • fixed a rare combat crash that occurred when during a second wave a skill's cooldown was reset but it's idle changing buff was still active (e.g "Give cover")
  • fixed issues with controller support where some inputs on contextual buttons and areas would not work

  • increased the resistance and health value for escorted medics but also reduced the strength of the buffs they gave to player's party
  • improved quest marker and task updates for the "Independent Spy" quest since some players had problems finding the next clues
  • the quest to get the votes from the merchants will now properly show a count update when the player got a new vote
  • adjusted the starting skill points for Hank and Jane when they join the player to make them more adjusted to the skill levels of other survivors
  • changed: the skip tutorial button would already be active by default in a save slot even if the player didn't finish a tutorial run
  • changed: the talk function in the bar screen can now be triggered with left click anywhere and not specifically on the portrait
  • added an additional backup file that is saved when a new day/night begins
  • added two new speech bubbles in combat that helps the player with using the right tactic against certain enemies
  • small improvements for French, Portuguese and Spanish Spain localization

    Bugfixes
  • fixed that after one faction becomes hostile due to the story you could still encounter events that allowed regaining reputation for that faction
  • fixed some merchant combatants in events could have "No one" displayed as their faction
  • fixed issue with Lana's request (during Tessa's quest) regarding the rescue of her boyfriend when the rescue happened before the time limit but the talk to Lana happened after the time limit
  • fixed side quest "Savior" briefing dialogue would show the map zoom to target location only on first occasion in contrast to other side quest briefings
  • fixed that the graveyard sequence didn't work properly when a temporary camp member was present

  • fixed AP behaving not correctly when stunned
  • fixed a typo in French localization
  • fixed that using "Liquid Courage" skill would qualify as a "ranged" attack and therefore unnecessarily fail the arena master challenge random event
  • fixed that the bridge guard bribing event with a hostile faction didn't work as intended when failed or having insufficient money

Dead Age 2 Version 1.0.6 - More Scrap & Less Travel Encounters

In this update small improvements and bugfixes were made, which were discussed in the community forum. For example, we reduced the chance of ambush attacks on day. We are also slighty reduced travel encounters in unfriendly country. But remember, if you solve the area quest in each area, the area becomes friendly and then the chances of Random Encounters are much lower and you even get some friendly events.

  • added scrap to the goods of merchants in all Independent bases, added more scrap in scrap locations (We had community discussions that scrap was a little too low in the world)

  • slightly reduced the chance of scavenger/punk attacks on the camp during day on normal difficulty
  • speech bubbles in combat regarding knock back success will now only appear if the attack threw the target back without obstructions

  • stunned and knocked out characters will only regain a bit stamina / AP in combat. However we will optimize this feature next week.

  • fixed that one of merchant Joe's dialogue options regarding the Merchant guild was visible even if you already encountered the guild
  • fixed Denise's dialog asking if the player ever visited the Independent HQ was not correctly checking that state
  • fixed that in some circumstances the level up display could show a level up for the same character a second time although only having one actual level up
  • fixed a crash in combat that could occur when a Tough Brawler was killed by walking into one of player's traps
  • fixed that wolf enemies could visually get stuck at the back row when they got knocked back and stunned at the same time
  • fixed that the animation for climbing down the ladder of the hunting stand sometimes was misaligned when aborting the job
  • fixed that during the cutscene when chapter two of the story begins after the mutation fight there is a short moment the player was able interact with the menus when they shouldn't
  • fixed inconsistent spelling of Nathalie's name in several dialogues

  • when killing a Tough Brawler the old body will now disappear as the Crawler is spawned in its place

  • fixed that a character doing the hunting job in camp could sometimes visually try to climb up in the air through the hunting stand
  • fixed that the heavy armor of armored enemies didn't break properly if they got damaged by walking into a trap

  • added some additional quest tasks to help the player in some situations where the next step in the story was not so obvious (Lydia's Alliance Quest, Getting into the Army's HQ, Kira's first request in Forest Grave, Trevor's second request to find Terence's stash)
  • when entering the final dungeon, open quests will no be moved to failed since the player can't finish them anymore
  • when entering the final dungeon [spoiler]the resources and items stolen from the player will now be given back at a later point (although this doesn't work for saves that are already in the dungeon)[/spoiler]
  • changed the combats in the cave of Fernando's Quest and Mary's Quest to be no ambush combat
  • fixed that it was not possible to correctly choose non enemy target slots in combat with controller / gamepad
  • changed hardcore difficulty back from +15% to +20% enemy strength
  • fixed a bug where a character could enter a strange walking animation during camp defense if he was infected and then healed with Zomdex
  • fixed that improving the bed room in camp did not provide any XP for the worker
  • fixed that the defense barricades' HP didn't adjust with the level of the defense post room
  • reduced the upgrade costs for the defense post room
  • fixed a bug where after startup of the game and on first time loading a save with a defense combat the first wave could have wrong enemies (caused by some data not being fully prepared and therefore the loading time had to be increased slightly)
  • fixed a possible crash when doing the weapon test challenge from an encounter

Update #24 formation button, new main character & small delay

Final Release date of the whole game is the 12.3.2021. We need a bit more time to find all bugs in the new southern area. In this current update there is the last new main character potrait. Personally I love him. :)
Many people have asked for the formation button, so here it is. You can now set one party member that starts in the front row. The formation button is set on the map next to the portraits. But there is still the option to leave all three characters behind, in case you just want to empty your magazines. ;)

Update #23 Bugfixes, Balancing & French Translation

The release for the next big storyline update is planned for the end of February. In this update there are again some bug fixes and an adjustment of the balancing after a 6-10 hours of play. After discussions with players from the community, Dead Age 2 becomes a bit harder in the 2nd half of the story. Problem was that the characters were significantly higher in level than the desert / mountain zombies and zombie mutations. (Level 10-11) Now it will be so that you have to play much longer to reach, for example, level : 12. Level 13 or Level 14 would be too easy against them. So everything remains fair, but it should be a stronger challenge. Feel free to give me your feedback if you haven't reached the desert yet. Roadmap Update #19 Speech Bubbles and Replacement Survivors

This new content update includes additional speech bubbles in combat for party members and as requested by the community we have included "Replacement Survivors". These four survivors are non-story characters and replace a story survivor if one dies. All you have to do is encounter them in battle. A "Replacement Survivor" enters the camp only when someone has died, because the game is built around a certain number of survivors.
However, the final story update will not be released until February. There have been a few delays and in addition we are adding another Wishlist Milestone: an improved Final Boss Dungeon that needs a bit more time. In exchange, there will be some interesting ideas in the final hours of Dead Age 2. :) There are still a few thousand votes missing for this additional content, but we believe that we will get these votes by the time of the content update in February. Update #18 Engine Update and Bugfixes


Dear Survivors, Today we made an engine update to possibly fix some problems that are related to internal graphics cards. Usually you need a Nvidia or AMD card with graphics memory to play the game. For the people who had problems, let me know in the forum or the comments if something has changed for the better. Dont forget the last big update which included the threat barometer.

  • changed xp reward for crafting and camp jobs. the job tier you assign (eg gardener 1 - 3 or crafting a pistol of tier 1 - 3) will now determine the amount of xp rewarded (50 - 150)
  • cooldowns for turret skills will now start ticking down only after the turret was destroyed. It was otherwise too strong compared to other skills
Bugfixes
    -updated Unity to 2019.4.16 (LTS) to hopefully get rid of some random crashes on integrated graphic cards -fixed that the tutorial was forced to be skipped as soon as one attempted to play it -fixed wrong positions for NPCs in travel event with helping bodyguards -fixed that random encounters while traveling appeared much less than intended -fixed that when multiple characters died because of the same reason Jack would talk about that cause multiple times -updated some localisations -updated credits to account for the Spanish - Spain localization's contribution -changed xp reward for crafting and camp jobs. the job tier you assign (eg gardener 1 - 3 or crafting a pistol of tier 1 - 3) will now determine the amount of xp rewarded (50 - 150) -added a second backup save "Backup#b" that is written to every other save point since the current backup could be corrupted just as the normal save if something went wrong (which is not really useful as a backup) -improved some melee skills of NPCs so they no longer warp back after hitting the enemy with their fist / kick attacks -fixed that the number hotkeys in combat were usable while a dialogue was playing which is inconsistent with the fact that mouse can't trigger any attacks during dialogues. this could lead to some broken situations in quests or tutorial sequences -adjusted the skip tutorial button behavior to only show skip by default if tutorial was finished once -changed quest markers on map to use a different font color when showing the pinned quest -fixed that the ammo crafting yield bonus for survival talent level 9 was not working -fixed some inconsistent values in the descriptions of talent levels -fixed a crash that occurred when going back to main menu when using a controller while the map is visible

Update 17: 3rd Roadmap Milestone - Threat Meter / New Events


In this third Roadmap Update (Update 17) we have included the Threat Barometer. The barometer shows more information about the threat and the current area where the party is located. Depending on the level of the threat, other travel events will also take place.

Update #16 Asian Faces and "Dead Age 1+2 Bundle" are live!


Dear Survivors, First things first: Now available here on Steam is the "Dead Age 1+2 Bundle", which includes both games and the soundtrack of Dead Age 2! For all owners of Dead Age and Dead Age 2 the soundtrack is also available separately HERE. Currently we are still a few weeks before the next big update. With it we will present you 10 new rogue-like events and the Threat Barometer. For the time being, weve got something small but nice for our customers. We have new faces for Asian and Latin characters, and two new hair styles. We have added keyboard shortcuts to the combat system, higher resolutions should be possible (in 16:9) and some bugfixes.
Dont forget the last big update which included helmets. You can find them in boss battles or in secret places for which you need chip cards or lockpicks.

  • mutated zombies have received more HP, so they are a little more dangerous
  • changed "Small Hound" and "Tiger" skill to be only usable when the corresponding story quest has been reached
Bugfixes
  • changed the item stack sell slider to snap to whole numbers (more noticeable for smaller stack values)
  • fixed that the camp background sounds were audible during the loading screen and when standing at any point on the map while looking into the inventory etc.
  • fixed inconsistencies in the translation of some job and skill descriptions
  • fixed the faction label, which was too short in character creation screen
  • fixed a bug where combat could get stuck if certain enemies were hit while being stunned
  • fixed a crash when loading a save at the medic station of Army HQ

Update 15: 2nd Roadmap Milestone


Dear Survivors, In this milestone we have some new features. You can now heal party members but also NPCs. The quest tracker can help you to track a specific quest. Additional hats and helmets offer even more variety. You can find them in boss battles or in secret places where you need chip cards or lockpicks. The merchants also have the chance to sell these special items.

Update 14: Saves & Traps

Update 12: Boosting 3AP Combat Skills

Update 11: Manual Levelup, Tutorial Cut Better Russian Translation


Dear Survivors, Today we have a major update for you. Levelups now have much more interaction. The damage model has also been improved, which primarily affects the combat with assault rifles and blades. Update 10: The calm before the storm

The calm before the storm means that there are still some bug fixes to be done this week. (see community forum) Next week there will be a big update regarding manual levelup, improved damage calculation for e.g. blades and assault rifles and a completely improved translation into Russian. Here is today's changelist: -fixed that important quest progressions could get stuck if you failed some side quests for the cantinas in City West or City East and no more quests were available. 40k Wishes/Buys reached extended Early Access Roadmap!


Dear survivors, weve got some good news for you. The Wishlist or Buy event has reached 40,000 wishes. With this we can now add additional Rogue-like events! steamhappy But there is much more to report. Because of the feedback we received we decided to extend the development for one and a half months to include new features that you suggested. Late August:

  • manual level-ups / resettable upgrades
Many players have asked for a manual level-up - of course we want to meet your wishes and are implementing them now. However, we also have to work on some attributes to make sure the balancing is right. So, thatll be a big point for August which shifts the original road map a bit. Late September:
  • Healing with healing items for all party members & NPCs
  • Adapted shorter "Director's Cut" tutorial
  • Additional hats & helmets for the party lootable
  • Improvement of the Russian translation
  • Besides Spanish Latin, a Spanish Spain translation is also planned
The additional features make it easier for new players to get started and offer more variety later on where you can i.e. get new armor and heal NPCs you are escorting. Late October:
  • Threat barometer / Additional map events
  • 10 new Rogue-like events
Another great feature is the threat barometer and associated additional map events. It is an interesting feature to reduce the threat to all regions, so that you won't encounter random enemies in the areas too often. The additional Rogue-like events will help to make the gameplay even more varied. Late November:
  • Additional speech bubbles in combat to add a little more variety to the game.
Late December:
  • The grand finale of the action will take place! You can experience additional quests, areas and bosses! steamhappy

Update #9 is live: Only a few bugs left...


Dear Survivors, Thanks for all the reports, we will work hard on it! If you want to support us, please write a review because our goal shall be to have at least 70% positive reviews in Steam to survive in our huge quest. We have again adjusted some points based on your feedback, e.g. You can now reset upgrades and the attacks of looters have been reduced a bit, on casual difficulty even more. Here is today's changelist:

  • fixed some issues with the popup questions in the character upgrade screen
  • added the function to reset all character upgrades unlocked with medals. you will get the medals refunded and can redistribute them. to use this you can now right click in the character upgrade screen while no temporary upgrade changes are waiting for confirmation (then it will still work as the normal revert function)
  • fixed that the shops at the outposts would restock their goods indefinitely whenever revisited
  • fixed that the loot gui didn't react to the item under the cursor correctly when picking them up one by one
  • fixed that the main character death counting achievements didn't work properly
  • reduced the chance of attacks from scavengers and punks on the camp to: 20% at day / 40% at night in normal difficulty. 10% / 30% in causal and 30% / 50% in hard mode
  • fixed a few issues that occurred when buying the ammunition for the Jack quest in the Army HQ
  • fixed that side quests Savior, Destroyer and Soldier didn't clean up their locations if they failed due to time limit and visiting these remaining locations could cause the game to crash
  • fixed a crash that occurred when interacting with a camp room that somehow got to level 4 (we yet have to find out how that is even possible, since 3 should be max)
  • fixed that the quest sequence in the mine could become stuck if you didn't choose all dialogue options at the lost camp at least once
  • fixed that you could get stuck with 3 keys in the mine
  • added a new mechanic that when loading a save will clear the map from locations that are only there visually but cant be interacted with
  • fixed that the tutorial could get stuck at the moment Steven is supposed to pick up water from the barrel
  • fixed that Kira's pistol was missing after the tutorial even though she dropped it in the fight right before
  • changed: the main character's upgrades won't be applied during his first fights of the tutorial to prevent possible issues with the values not lining up properly

  • fixed a crash (introduced in 0.4.7) that occured when the fight against Dexter started

  • fixed that one of Fernando's dialogues during Tessa quest triggered in a way that when leaving the game right away the result of that dialogue was not saved and got lost
  • changed the timing of shop refills to be on a global, fixed 5 day cycle instead of depending on the players last visit
  • changed the mechanic how the USArmy Armor is added to the merchant by Lana's quest so it is always available
  • updated several particles in the game from unity's legacy shader to latest shader (possibly fixing some remaining graphics crashes? for example in the hospital scene)
  • fixed that talking to a baarkeeper about an already assigned side quest would spawn a new ghost locations every time
  • fixed that the game got stuck when doing Joseph's quest in the prison when the main character was the only party member
  • improved allied AI so it wont use skills that have no value in the current situation eg: "Return fire" when no ranged enemy fighters are present
  • added a new debug mechanic: if the game is in a fight and not waiting for player input after a wait delay of 10 seconds without any new combat / AI command happening the game will assume it got stuck and create a crash report. This will hopefully help iron out some of the remaining random freezes and similar problems in combat that are too difficult to reproduce

The Us Army HQ now checks not only the leader but all party members based on the armor the army needs. In August we will talk about some major changes, e.g. the level up! Patch 5: Bugfixes

Here is today's changelist -bringing the military doctor from the wounded doctor quest to city west now counts towards the good deed achievements. It will also count retroactively in existing saves -fixed that the "total destruction" quest could occur twice since we changed the spawn time of the quest. Saves with both versions active will continue with the newer one -fixed that the bunker location for mason's treasure quest could become broken when arriving there with 0 minutes left of the day -fixed that the mine dungeon quest line could become corrupted if the player left the game before completing the first encounter node in the mine, which gives the first letter. Also added a retroactive fix for saves stuck in the mine without keys -fixed a crash (introduced in 0.4.4) that occured when you triggered the bad story end while not being in the first run of the save file -increased combat strength of allied soldiers in random encounters

Update 4: Boosting Rifle, Shotgun Blades Bug fixing


Dear survivors, Thanks for all the reports, we will work hard on it! If you want to support us please write a review because our goal shall be to have 70% positive reviews in steam to survive in our huge quest. Today's patch will improve some weapons and also increase the weapon damage at the beginning of the survivors. There were problems before when the player attacks against higher level opponents. Now you can do more damage with the assault rifle. It's still not a good idea to use the assault rifle on Heavy Armored Enemies (30 and more armor) so dont forget. But you get more damage for the amount of money and crafts. Shotgun has also been improved. Damage has been increased by 10 in total and some skill damage values have been improved. So his damage against Heavy Armored Enemies is nice. Bladed has also been improved. Blades get a little more damage so they can stand up to the blunt weapons. Damage has also been increased for some skills. Remember, however, that they are primarily intended for use against low-armored opponents. Keep an eye on the tactics and give the different survivors different weapons. This is not only more fun but can be tactically better. And of course don't forget the support skills like hunters or technicians. Patch 3 - More HP for everyone Bugfixes

Currenty we still have to fix the bugs you reported. Thx for all the reports. We will work hard on it, if you want to support us pls write a review because our goal has to be 70% postive in steam to survive in our huge quest. Lots of reviews complain the too hard difficulty so we work on it. We decided to give all difficulties 100 hp for the survivors. Especially the beginning is very difficult and the 100 Hp should help you to survive some tricky situations. Also the level of the opponents from the start areas was slightly reduced. Additionally we have made the Ambush Events a bit easier, there is one less opponent attacking. Another point is the current Endquest in Early Access, we gave the player 6 days more here to have more rest. Please keep in mind that we will continue the story of Dead age 2 so this feature is not final. More patches will follow in the next days. Early Access Launch slightly delayed

Apocalyptic Feature #2: Fight to Survive


Dear survivors, there are so many new features which were also very interesting during development and how they came together in harmony. This is especially true for the survival elements. The world map with over 80 different locations, for example, offers much more detailed possibilities of survival. But while you try to get water and food, you must also train yourself in combat at the same time. Theres a significant amount of new skills that are relevant in combat, also team play among party members has an important role. Overall, Dead Age 2 is more strategic. With the help of speech bubbles, you can also react to the problems of the survivors, e.g. if they have nothing to do, are offended or need food/water. Furthermore, we have, of course, many new events and enemies which test the will to survive of Jack's Camp. Apocalyptic Feature #1: The Past and Present


Dear survivors, Dead Age 1 brought something new to the indie market in 2016. It connected survival and rogue-like with storyline, perma-death and turn-based combat. We found it interesting that our "Final Fantasy 10"-esque turn-based combat system had perma-death and survival management, so that the risk was always there at all times for the survivors to bite the dust. 3.5 years later we arrived at Dead Age 2 with many, many new features. The combat system has become much more complex and strategic, but still retains the advantage of its speed over tactical role-playing games. We can definitely stand the comparison to Darkest Dungeon because of its new tactical options. [previewyoutube=Pdcgivr4DdM;full][/previewyoutube] The exploring and survival thrill has been greatly improved with a large map and over 80 locations, giving it a bit of an open world feeling while being very compact. The base remains the center, this time completely in 3D. There are completely different fighting factions with whom you can trade or solve quests to reach their respective leaders. Dead Age 2 therefore feels much more like an RPG, e.g. with numerous quests and different consequences depending on the decision. Optimizing the Dead Age #2: The Combat System


Dear survivors, Dead Age 1 had a very positive rating of 84%, but we wanted to find improvements for Dead Age 2 in as many gameplay aspects as possible. Today you'll get more information about the combat system. The fighting system became much more complex and flexible. For example, you can perform a normal attack twice in one round and collect adrenaline points.
Front-row survivors can protect allies standing behind them in the ranged-attack-row, or you can choose a more complex skill like Brute Strike and use your increased adrenaline to deal higher damage.
You could also focus / recharge and use your strongest skills in the next round which do a lot of damage or are very effective against enemies with certain debuffs. Team play is very effective e.g. when a survivor uses the shotgun to shoot zombies unconscious and another survivor then does extra damage against unconscious enemies with their jump attack.
Of course, the enemies also have some nasty tricks. Instincts make sure that some zombies strengthen each other, hit each other to make themselves angry, bite to gather life energy or summon zombie hunters' undead animals. This time the zombies can even infect you with the Virus. So be careful!
In return you have new special skills: you can use mobile turrets, summon a dog or even later, if you find one, a hungry tiger.

Optimizing the Dead Age #1: Graphics, animations and more!


Dear survivors, I want to give you more detailed information about the further development from Dead Age 1 to Dead Age 2 in this and the upcoming updates. It is rare that indie titles get successors and even rarer that the successors are more successful than their predecessors. Often because predecessors and successors are too similar. That's why we can proudly say that we have added so many new ideas and features that will make Dead Age 2 a completely new experience! This update is all about technology.

Graphics


Dead Age 2 has over 7GB of files, which is more than 4 times the size of Dead Age 1. Thats needed for the many, many 3D scenarios which are also scrollable, a lot more enemies, and also a lot of NPCs and quest givers matching the three factions, which are spread everywhere in the areas from Dead Age 2.

Soundtrack


Also with the soundtrack of Sven Gerlach, we have 21 tracks by now which is a lot for an indie title. The tracks are great and we will probably also have a soundtrack DLC I think. This soundtrack really deserves it!

Animations


In contrast to part 1, we were able to work with motion capture for some animations, so that the animations look much more realistic. We also spent a lot of time with the outposts, to make them feel vivid as you explore them. The successful wishlisting from your side, brought us additional animations which provide for more variety:
Also new are the animated portraits which breathe more life into the characters, as there are significantly more quests and dialogues in Dead Age 2.

Shader techniques


We use many of the most important techniques, such as SSAO and Depth of Field, to look more modern here as well.
Overall, our 4-person Silent Dreams team has worked hard to ensure that you are graphically and acoustically satisfied. Freedom City News #01: Meet the Devs!


Hi folks! Dead Age 2 is around the corner and with this update I want to show you who is actually working on the game! I am Rayk Kerstan ("Holy Avatar" in the steam community and "Dawnclaude" on Discord), I am the CEO and Creative Director of Silent Dreams a small developer located in Mlheim an der Ruhr, Germany. My story - and also the story of Silent Dreams - actually began in a very classic indie way. Together with the programmer of Gothic 1-3, Carsten Edenfeld, and a highly motivated team of boys and girls we developed Grotesque Tactics, Grotesque Tactics 2: Dungeons & Donuts plus Holy Avatar vs Maidens of the Dead. All three are parody roleplaying games that had their success, even if not everyone could handle with the weird humor.
Grotesque Tactics, Grotesque Tactics 2 & Holy Avatar In 2016 we released Dead Age to Early Access on Steam and this Survival RPG became our biggest success! Over the years we ported it to all major platforms you guys are using to play on. As we love our zombie apocalyptic universe a lot that we created with the game, it was really about time to tell more stories of the Dead Age. And that brought us to the decision to work on Dead Age 2! Another Survival RPG based on the strength of its predecessor, but with many cool new features and extensions. At this point, thanks again to our community for the many great suggestions and ideas - you guys are awesome! Currently I am spending many hours developing the fine tuning of Dead Age 2. Just doing this while you read those lines on Steam.
Dead Age (2016) And all the other members of Silent Dreams are working very hard right now to launch Dead Age 2 to Steam Early Access in time. We will finally announce the release date at the end of this week! But back to the Silent Dream(s)-Team: Matthias Eisenlohr is our lead programmer. He is fast, competent and always polite and kind. I hope we will work on the upcoming games from Silent Dreams for many, many years to come. Our graphic designer is Adam Sprys [Twitter]. He became known through Knights & Merchants. A very successful strategy game, even though he unfortunately never saw much of the revenue himself... He is currently working on animations, particles and characters for Dead Age 2! Beside these 3 central persons, we won an apprentice with Jason. A short fun fact: The new main character of Dead Age 2 is also named Jason. So, who was there first - the hen or the egg?
Dead Age 2 (2020) Sven Gerlach [website] is our musician and will provide you all with a great soundtrack, which is even better and more extensive than in Dead Age 1. You will get a first taste of his work within this week with the first Dead Age 2 trailer. I promise! And apart from that we have worked together with other graphic artists, among others Max Wittig and Kai Meinen, who are responsible for all outposts of the new factions: Smugglers, Independents and U.S. Army. As you see, we are a small but fine team. We'll do our part to show why indie games have a special touch with ideas of their own that Triple A games would probably never create. 10 years after the initial outbreak of the zombie apocalypse, the members of Jack's camp fled to Freedom City, where a cure for the zombie plague was developed. But the news brings more suffering than relief. New factions have sprung up in the region, in constant battle for dominance. The merciless Military, the shady Smugglers and the Independents made up primarily of civilians.

When an Independents' refugee camp was overrun by an undead horde, the few survivors struggle for food and valuable resources in an unforgiving world, always looking over their shoulder for gangs of looters and the flesh-eating dead.



While the big advantage of Dead Age's turn-based combat system versus tactics-based games is faster progression, the mechanics have evolved.

A character can now bring up to 24 skills to the battle. Change up your tactics mid-fight to instantly gain the advantage over zombies and hostile survivors. Place front-row combatants to protect ranged-combat allies from attackers, and deploy turrets, hunting dogs and tigers, as well as an array of new weapons.



Visit the outposts of other factions to trade and take on missions and improve your standing with them. Improving relations with the region's greater factions unlocks better equipment and plot devices. A negative reputation can lead to confrontation or even a bounty.



Your 3D base is your central hub of operations. Here, you assign crafting or building jobs to survivors, build and upgrade stations to improve defense and quality of life and unlock improved craftable items and higher yield of resources.

The new open game-world offers free exploration of the world map with over 80 detailed graphically depicted locations. Beside nature scenes, Dead Age 2 features new indoor locations like hospitals, bunkers, schools, malls and army supply stores.



Decisions you make while playing can have significant effects on the progression of the story involving the three survivor factions, romanceable characters, and bring you closer to one of the game's six endings!



Like its predecessor, Dead Age 2 features random events on the map resulting in a variety of consequences, but this time those events are depicted fully in 3D. Survival RPGs are especially dangerous. 3 difficulty levels and permadeath may result at any time in losing an ally for good. If your main character falls victim to the apocalypse you are forced to begin a new playthrough, for which you can purchase upgrades and advantages unlocked in previous runs.

Gain enough standing with the factions and you may purchase things like upgraded faction equipment for newly-created characters, as well as unlock unique endings. This gives Dead Age 2 high replayability!
