Item Sets & Sound Effects - Game Update - June 22, 2022

- Added 4 new abilities - Added 11 new sigils - Added new sound effects to numerous things - Removed Sigils of Corruption, Reaper, Celestials, and Elements. More Monsters & Environmental Changes - Game Update - May 01, 2022

We got some new monsters and a better look for the dungeons themselves as well as the town. I will keep updating the way the town looks but for now I am happy with what I've added.

  • Added 4 new monsters that can buff nearby monsters (these buffs are attack + movement speed, attack damage, increased armor, healing)
  • Added 4 new "elite" monsters
  • Elite monsters(Wardens) guard portals and doors found in the dungeon. Each has different effects based on the number of monsters surrounding them
  • Added 3 new ranged monsters
  • Added elemental versions of some monsters; Fire enemies have a chance of burning Ice enemies have a chance of slowing Nature enemies have a chance of lowering player's Corruption These chances scale with the player's elemental %, ie. if fire % is high, there's a high chance player won't be burned
  • Added a new ability, Cleanse. Cleanse removes all the debuffs affecting the player and grants immunity to all debuffs for 5 seconds
  • Passive skills now unlock with highest unlocked floor rather than player level
  • Monster spawns now scale with floor, reaching maximum amount at floor 75
  • Town has been updated a little
  • Normal attacks can't proc Elemental effects anymore
  • Removed the 25% Elemental base chance from Elemental Set [1], replaced it with "Normal attacks can now proc Elemental effects"
  • Improved gameplay performance

Sigils and Item Sets! - Game Update - April 08, 2022

There are now item sets in the game with the addition of sigils! Sigils can be put into the Statue of Death and provide small bonuses on their own. Statue of Death can hold up to 4 sigils with a slot being unlocked at every 15th floor. Sigils: Reaper's Sigil Set [1] Gain a burst of movement speed for 2.5 seconds after using Shadowstep [2] Shadowstep's range is extended by 50% [3] Shadowstep's cooldown gets reset after an enemy kill Elemental Sigil Set [1] All Elements get a 25% increase [2] Gain an Elemental Aura based on your strongest element [3] Elemental attacks and abilities can critically strike. The critical strike chance scales with an element's strength Corrupt Sigil Set [1] Enemy kills give 1% Corruption [2] All abilities cost Health instead of Corruption. All Corruption gets converted to Health [3] All attacks do double damage. Take double damage from all sources. Graphical Update & More - Game Update - March 22, 2022

Patch Notes:

  • Base movement speed has been increased slightly
  • Player model size has been increased slightly
  • Almost every dungeon room has received a graphical update
  • Wind has been removed as an element and is replaced with Earth
  • Whirlwind is renamed to Firestorm and is now a Fire spell
  • Leeching Strike and Drain Life are both classified as Earth spells
  • Added multiple light sources and pillars throughout the dungeon
  • Teleport VFX is now fixed
  • Critical hits should be fixed
  • Boss spawns are now fixed and will no longer cause the dungeon to not be proceedable

Elemental Effects & More - Game Update - Feb 04, 2022

Sorry this took so long, but this is a big one. First of all, Elemental Stats: There are 5 new Stats. These are Fire, Ice, Wind, Radiant, Shadow. Fire: Burns the target for 5 seconds. Ice: Slows and Chills the target. Chilled targets shatter on death, dealing aoe damage. Wind: Creates a small whirlwind around the player. Shadow: Enemies take more damage Radiant: Enemies deal less damage All Normal skills, including auto attacks, can proc these effects, but their damage scales with their own elements. Patch Notes

  • Added some 2h swords, they provide more damage and cdr but less attack speed (animations are not there yet)
  • Added blood splatters on the floor when an enemy dies
  • Added an outer glow to interactable objects on mouse over
  • Added a small visual effect to monsters when they get hit
  • Increased monster spawns within the dungeon
  • Added an "out of combat" idle animation that triggers when there are no monsters nearby
  • Weapons cannot be changed in combat now
  • There's now a short global cooldown of 0.5 seconds when an ability is used
  • Slash and stab animations now prevent the player from moving until the animations are over
  • Fixed some enemies not acting properly with their hitboxes
  • Added multiple new weapons and armor
  • Crystal of corruption and Essence of corruption have been renamed to Celestian Crystal and Celestian Ore respectively
  • Legendary and Corrupted equipment have static stats now (doesn't flactuate between two random values)
  • Critical Damage has been removed all items. Exceeding 100% Critical Chance will now increase the damage of Critical Strikes
  • Lifesteal has been removed from all items
  • Attack Speed is now static across different weapons and can't be upgraded as a stat via the anvil.
  • - Equipping swords now gives +10% Attack Speed (20% if both hands)
  • - Equipping axes now gives +5% Attack Speed (10% if both hands)
  • - Equipping two handed items gives no additional Attack Speed
  • - There are still some weapons that have their own Attack Speed value
  • Populated dungeon rooms with breakable barrels, chests, buckets, and some skeletons on the floor
  • Added fog to various places throughout the game
  • The floor tiles of the dungeon will now change colors every floor
  • Added a buff bar above the health bar that shows all the active buffs (Probably doesn't show everything right now)
  • Changed how resource nodes look
  • Whirlwind is available at Level 1 once again
  • Skills now have "Elemental Types"
  • Elemental stats now boost the damage/effect of abilities of the same elemental type

Game Update - New Abilities & Adjustments - Dec 29, 2021

  • Total kills, deaths, dashes, ability usage, health gained/lost, corruption gained/lost, coins gained/lost, souls gained/lost are now being tracked
  • Added a Noticeboard in town, it currently only shows the mentioned stats above
  • Demonic Gaze's damage has been increased (by a lot)
  • Removed ability: Swift Strike
  • Swift Strike now triggers with Right Mouse Button. It costs no Corruption, might make it generate Corruption in the future.
  • Still scales linearly with attack speed and damage
  • Since Swift Strike occupies the RMB, interacting with objects using RMB is no longer possible. Only possible with LMB

Graphical Updates - Game Update - December 28, 2021

I've updated the look of almost every room and the town graphically. There is still a lot of room for improvement but it's good to get this out of the way now. For comparison, Old Town:

Patch Notes - Dec 21, 2021

  • Passives as far as I can tell should now work and save properly
  • Fixed teleportation issues with portals
  • Added X to the corner to Blacksmith and Shop screens
  • Fixed the black screen issues when entering the boss area
  • Potion cooldown has been reduced to 1 second from 2
  • Potions have changed slightly, there are no more tiers. Vitality and Corruption potions are unlocked by default. Changed effects are: Vitality: Restore 50% Health Corruption: Restore 50% Corruption Equilibrium: Restore 25% Health and 25% Corruption Stoneskin: Restore 25% Health and take 30% reduced damage for 10 seconds Bloodlust: Restore 25% Corruption and 30% damage for 10 seconds
  • Potions should now save correctly after exiting
  • In preparation for attempting to diversify weapons: Longswords and shortswords have been buffed to include attack speed buffs (existing weapons that may be in the inventory or equipment won't have these buffs)

New Rooms & Variety - Game Update - Dec 18, 2021

Here are the patch notes for December 18, 2021.

General


  • Crystals and ores can for real be used in the furnace now
  • ESC menu can now be used to open Settings. Like the ESC menu, time now also stops when the Settings menu is active.
  • Added an option in settings to toggle enemy health bars so that they always show up regardless of their health
  • Added an option in settings to toggle a health bar above the player
  • There's now natural health regeneration. Like Corruption, you will now regenerate 1% Health every 2 seconds (subject to change)

Dungeon


  • Drops from bosses now scale with floors. Floors 1-9 will yield 1 drop, 10-19 will yield 2, 20-29 3, etc.
  • A new enemy type has been added, Treasured Soul, which drops more coins than usual when slain (yes I'm great at naming things)
  • Small portals have been added throughout the dungeon. An elite monster (formerly known as a miniboss) guards this portal, and portal can only be taken once the elite is killed. The portal leads to rooms that treasured monsters, chests, and bonfires
  • Added variety to starting rooms
  • Added some more normal rooms
  • Updated how bonfires look

Skills and Attributes


  • Whirlwind's Corruption cost has been lowered to 15
  • Swift Strike's Corruption cost has been lowered to 20
  • Reaper Call's Corruption cost has been lowered to 75
  • Leeching Strike's Corruption cost has been lowered to 30
  • Demonic Gaze's Corruption cost has been lowered to 20
  • Monsters now will do damage within a range of (max hit / 2) and their (max hit) instead of always their max hit.
  • Defence now provides another effect where it can cause monster hits to be 0. I do like an effect like this but might separate it from Defence to make its own stat later.
Blocking formula: Roll a number x between 0 and 600 + Defence If x is lower than Defence, block

Cauldron of Eternity & Furnace - Game Update - Dec 15, 2021

  • Cauldron of Eternity and the Furnace have been added.
  • Potions have been completely revamped. We now have a more Souls-like approach.

Potions and Flasks


  • Only one type of "flask" can be equipped and used in a dungeon run
  • Potion cooldown has been lowered to 2 seconds
  • Flasks are upgradeable and the contents are switchable to another one outside the dungeon
  • Base flask has 5 charges. This can be upgraded to 10 with Crystals and coins
  • Flask charges reset to maximum on a bonfire, inside and outside the dungeon.
5 different types of Potions have been added this patch. These are: Vitality - Increases Health by 25% per tier Corruption - Increases Corruption by 25% per tier Equilibrium - Increases Health & Corruption by 15% per tier Stoneskin - Increases Health by 15% and reduces damage taken by 10% per rank for 10 seconds Bloodlust - Increases Corruption by 15% and increases damage by 10% per rank for 10 seconds Note: Always open to suggestions for new potions, passives, and abilities

Crystals


  • 5 new Crystals with different rarities have been added to the game and the drop tables
  • Crystals can be used to upgrade flasks to hold more charges
  • Some Crystals will likely be required to upgrade some potions in the future

Furnace


  • Furnace can be used to upgrade ores and crystals into higher rarities. 3 of any rarity yields 1 of the next rarity. This as of now doesn't require any blacksmith levels but it might in the future

Other


  • Bonfires in the dungeon will now go out after one use. The town bonfire will always remain.
  • Leveling up has a text added to it on top of the player
  • A small text has been added that appears on top of the player like health gain for corruption gain
  • Small particles have been added to fires throughout the game
  • Reaper and Angel gloves now cover the hand too (graphics)
  • Moving right after basic attacking no longer shows the player as "skating", the legs should move properly now
  • Death animations have once again been added to Urud and Necromage
  • Wind Slash has been renamed to Swift Strike
  • Monster health bars now disappear rapidly upon death
  • Maximum camera zoom has been decreased
  • Some fog has been added to the dungeon, making it darker
  • A Passive list has been added along with a new tab to the Attributes screen that shows current attuned passives
  • Cost text font on abilities has been increased
  • Drops from monsters are now rarer (bosses are unaffected)
  • Game now pauses when ESC menu is open
  • Reviving is disabled. Dying in a dungeon means the player must go back to town. - EXPERIMENTAL
  • Using the mouse wheel to move the Orb of Celestials interface will no longer make the camera zoom in or out
  • Mouse wheel scroll sensitivity of Orb of Celestials interface has been increased
  • Potions are no longer useable at max resources

Orb of Celestials - Game Update - Dec 08, 2021

Orb of Celestials


Orb of Celestials is here! Every 5 levels you can pick a passive skill and upgrade it to take better advantage of it. The Orb requires souls that you get from killing monsters. Right now there are 8 passives available, the number will increase as time goes on and more gets added. You can only pick one passive skill out of the two in the same level bracket. My own thoughts are some of these passives are rather "boring", and while that's not a bad thing I wouldn't mind looking into changing Fervor/Voracity/Bulwark/Fleeting later on to make them more interactable, such as giving the bonuses in smaller percentages which would build up to the bigger number after each enemy killed. (ie. Fervor gives 1% Attack Speed per enemy killed, up to 10%) Level 5 - Fervor & Voracity - Fervor gives 10/20/30% Attack Speed. - Voracity gives 10/20/30% Cooldown Reduction. Level 10 - Shadow Strike & Shadow Form - Shadow Strike causes an AoE attack to come out after using Shadowstep. (100/200/300% of Player Damage per rank) - Shadow Form gives 10/20/30 Corruption after each use and can gain up to 2/3/4 charges. Level 15 - Bulwark & Fleeting - Bulwark gives 50/100/150 Defence. - Fleeting gives 2/4/6 Movement Speed. Level 20 - Fury & Wrath - Fury - Deal more damage the lower Health you have. Maximum 10/20/30% more damage at 25% Health. - Wrath - Deal more damage the lower Corruption you have. Maximum 10/20/30% more damage at 25% Health.

Small Changes


- Changed the main menu to include Discord/Steam links - Pressing F1 will now bring up the notification board - The old dash has been removed and has been replaced with Shadowstep. This has a shorter cooldown and a shorter range but feels better to use. - Potion icon has been updated - Some more visual effects have been updated - Urud has a new weird animation now for his Slam attack - Mages should no longer slide around the floor while moving towards the player

Game Update - Bank Chest & New VFX - Nov 21, 2021

Bank Chest



I've finally gotten around to adding a Bank Chest to the game. You can see the chest directly to the south of you in the town. The Chest currently can hold up to 30 items. In the future this number might be increased but right now it's mostly there for testing purposes. There is currently not a way to withdraw/deposit X amount of items, so everything is either in or out.

Other Changes/Fixes


  • Added a Mass Disassemble window. Blacksmith level 2, 3, and 4 is required to mass disassemble common, rare, and epic rarities respectively. There is no confirmation box but will probably add one later if necessary
  • When the Forge/Anvil/Bank interfaces are open, clicking on an item in the inventory will send it straight to the Forge/Anvil/Bank
  • Added new animations for almost every current skill
  • Added a new type of mini-boss that can spawn in the dungeon, will likely make it so the mini-boss guards a door or a chest
  • Added new graphics for Orb of Celestials
  • Made an interface for Orb of Celestials

Mass Disassembler

The Blacksmith brought a new feature a couple days ago, called the Forge where you can disassemble your items. I'm pretty happy with how it works, but I thought it would be nice to add an option which searches through your whole inventory and finds every item with the selected rarity and disassembles them all a the same time with just one click. There isn't a confirmation box or anything right now but something like this probably requires one eventually.

Playtesting Now Available!

Playtesting is here! You may now request access to playtest Nefarium! This has been in development for months, and while it's still missing some important features, I wanted to get a first version out of the way in order to collect some feedback from a variety of players. Don't forget to check the chest for free starter items! Your ability bar is keybindable in the settings, you can drag and drop abilities into it once you unlock them. Clicking on the bar to use the abilities right now is not a thing, but it can be. What features are missing and are on my to-do list? - Sound/Music - More bosses, more monsters - More abilities, more items - Appearance changer + female model - Better animations overall - "Puzzles" or rooms with more variety in them, as well as traps And more! Your goal begins in the dungeons. Each dungeon is randomly generated and once you leave it you can't return to it. To beat a dungeon, you must kill the boss at the end. Game Update - Disassembler - Nov 21, 2021

A way to get rid of the excess items is soon coming to the game. The way it works is simple. You put an item that you picked up during your adventures in the dungeons into the Disassembler, and the Disassembler will provide you an ore of the same rarity as the item that you are disassembling. The ore amount depends on the tier. An example, if you're disassembling a tier 3 rare longsword, then you will receive 3 rare ores. Preview of the disassembler

I might add a way to "Mass Disassemble" items so that every item in your inventory with a specific rarity gets disassembled instantly, though I'm not sure if that's exactly a safe thing to implement so I'll be keeping an eye out for this. UI Update! - Nov 18, 2021

I've finally gotten around to updating the game's User Interface! Some might have slipped through the cracks which I hopefully will fix eventually, but overall I'm very happy with how it turned out. The dungeons of Nefarium change each time you enter, introducing variety in how you will get to the end. Every room has a chance of introducing monsters, traps, or loot. Difficulty rises with each completed floor as monsters start to get stronger.

YOU ARE THE BOSS FIGHT


Everything in the dungeon wants a piece of you, especially the boss awaiting you at the end of a floor. Imbue your blades and don't keep them waiting any longer. Kill your enemies, collect their souls, level up and unlock powerful abilities. Show who the real boss of Nefarium is.

WIELD STRONG AND UNIQUE EQUIPMENT


Upgrade your items with the materials you acquire from the dungeons. Don't rely on randomized stats to get stronger than before. Enchant your items to acquire unique set effects.

PREPARE YOUR ARSENAL


You are equipped with the potential to unlock a variety of abilities and items, it is all up to you to realize the true potential of them all and define your own playstyle. Whether you want to focus on using your abilities to their fullest or slice and dice through your enemies rapidly, nothing will stand in your way either way.

Roadmap


As Nefarium is early in development, it is missing loads of features that will make the game more complex eventually. You can find a list of all the things that are either in development or are planned below.

Currently In Development:

  • A Passive skill tree that the players can pick from
  • More "game feel" to ensure it feels REALLY good to hit things endlessly.

Long Term Goals:

  • Way more items with unique properties!
  • Way more abilities!
  • Increased variety in monsters and bosses, as well as mini-bosses
  • Increased variety in dungeon obstacles, such as traps or locked doors
  • An Enchanter to enchant items with specific properties
  • Appearance changer
  • More and better sound effects
  • Music
  • A storyline and lore
  • An Endurance Mode where you will be able to start from the very bottom and see just how far you can go without dying.
  • Better animations overall
  • More player options to make the experience of every individual more unique
