Also a very big thank you to all the people from the community that enjoy creating this nice content for the game. mindnight_heart
Feature-wise this update sadly doesnt contain much.
This brings us to the next topic of this post: The future.
As you may notice updates got less and less frequent over the last year. We mostly added stuff that the community created. The team considers MINDNIGHT to mostly be feature complete at this point.
For most of us, MINDNIGHT is a hobby project that we created in our free time. That being said, we need to be realistic and admit that we just cant keep new high-quality content coming forever.
But dont worry, we wont shut down MINDNIGHT anytime soon. As long as we can afford it, the servers will keep running and we will try to keep the game in a working state with minor updates here and there if necessary.
Regarding the mobile version of the game, we need to still disappoint you for now. Because not much progress has been made. A complete redesign of the UI is required to make the game work on small screens, and that is just too much work for our limited free time while other projects are going on in parallel.
Lets get back to happier topics. mindnight_saint
The last 4-5 years were a great journey and it wouldnt be the same without all of you. The players, the content creators and all the friends that helped during the several stages of MINDNIGHT life and its development.
Nothing makes us happier than seeing people enjoying our game with friends or even making new friends while playing it. So keep having fun with it, especially in these weird times that we live in right now!
The whole Team wishes everybody great holidays and a happy new year 2022.
Here is a little Christmas present for you. [spoiler]7ec8cdc1e3[/spoiler]
You can redeem that in the marketplace and then buy something nice with it ;)
As always join our discord to get in touch with us or the community and keep up to date with everything regarding MINDNIGHT and No Moon.
Cheers!
- the MINDNIGHT TEAM

Hey there MINDNIGHT nation! Firstly we want to take the time and mention Among Us, in case you don't know the game and congratulate InnerSloth for their successful boom through the kindness of content creators. We love all social deduction games, and we know you do to, so certainly try the game if you have not yet! MINDNIGHT seen a similar little promotional boom, thanks for Youtube content creators, although not at this scale - but it helped MINDNIGHT a lot to bring you all together and be part of this great community. Without further ado, let's get into the details of this next content update that is now LIVE:
Changelist:
- We have improved the Select Phase Timeout - If you select the amount of required players and the time runs out without you pressing submit the proposal is submitted instead of the AI routine kicking in. Additionally if players will not propose in time and there are not enough players selected, the proposal is skipped instead of the AI making the decision.
- We have fixed some chat exploits that made the game crash sometimes
- We have fixed the cancellation of matches if they were already completed on the server
- We have improved the chat readability in certain level backgrounds
- We have adjusted the shop layout to always display the new skins that are available to purchase at the top of the shop

Three years. There has been three years since we launched the game and we had 30 players in the first month, until we made the game free to play. Now we are over 240.000! Happy great birthday MINDNIGHT, and happy birthday to you all, we raise a glass for all of you that are supporting the game, helping us improving it and putting a lot of time and passion in MINDNIGHT. We have to thank you once again for being so patient with us, and understanding that MINDNIGHT afterall is a project very close to our heart, and we are trying our best to put our free time into it as often as possible in order to improve everything that needs improving. Oh, and there's a lot to be improved, we assure you, we know. With this update we come forward, finally, with trading cards, as we have been in discussions with Valve over them for quite some time now. Happy collecting and happy using the emoticons that come with it! Additionally we have been busy creating a more streamline process to create skins for both us the developers and the community in order to try as much as possible to update the game's content more often! We'll try to do monthly updates from now on! Before going into the short list of skins that we've been added to this update, we also wanted to quickly dive into what we are working on right now: [olist]

MINDNIGHT has been around for almost 3 years now, and in our limited time while developing other games or tending to you full-time jobs, we always have struggled in trying to take care of MINDNIGHT's strong, big and passionate community.
In good or bad moments, we have always turned to the community whenever we wanted to make a change, ask questions, open a dialogue or generally get help with anything. We are so grateful to have such a passionate and big community and we have thought for a while now that it deserves more. More events, more care and love and generally speaking we also need more time in order to really improve, fix and elevate MINDNIGHT's gameplay and universe.
And in order for us to do this we have decided that is time to increase our team, get dedicated community managers and increase the number of moderators both in-game and on Discord.
That is why we are proud to welcome two brand team members to No Moon, in order to help with MINDNIGHT and even other titles in the near future.
Ivan Cotti aka iv2b representing the EU continent and tending to the community from the EU timezone and Andrew Lara-Kane aka Lofegolf representing the Americas and the US timezones and tending to the community from that part of the world.
We are so grateful to have them on our team and we are looking forward to see what ideas they have around taking care of MINDNIGHT's community and at the same time trying to grow it as much as possible.
Let's now get to know them a little bit more.
Take a moment and introduce yourself to the community
Ivan: Hey, I'm Ivan and I am from Italy. Currently i'm attending a computer science course at a nearby university while tinkering with Unity, mostly through game jams. A lot of my free time is spent playing games, with a fraction of it being spent at the local gym. Andrew: My name is Andrew Lara-Kane and work for No Moon as a Community Manager for Mindnight. I live in California, USA and I am a 3rd year college student attending UC Merced studying Computer Science and Engineering. My main hobbies are to stream, play video games, and learn how to develop/design games.
When and how did you first discovered MINDNIGHT?
Ivan: I've joined MINDNIGHT in july 2018. At that time i used to play similar games a fair bit and steam suggested MINDNIGHT to me, so I tried it out. Andrew: I first discovered Mindnight when I got my first computer once I graduated from high school. A lot of my friends who were already on PC for a while introduced me to the game as one of the first ones I picked up. Ever since then, I have loved it to the point where I wanted to work on it with No Moon themselves.
What do you like at MINDNIGHT the most and how would you describe it in a few words?
Ivan: The lack of convoluted role interactions is a feature i highly appreciate. The game's entirely focused on the social deduction aspects of the genre, which is what hooked me. Andrew: The thing I like about Mindnight the most is the strategies that are used to win as whatever role you play. My personal favorite is playing as hacker and successfully deceiving every other agent to get the win. The best part about it is that there is no one standard strategy to winning. So many people I have met have come up with so many different and compelling strategies that it makes the game very unique and fun. To describe it in a few words, "Trust no one, unless they duel you".
What are your goals as a community manager for MINDNIGHT?
Ivan: I'll be working towards making the community, and the game itself, more accessible and welcoming towards new players. Additionally I will do my best to collect feedback and organize events for the community to enjoy. Andrew: My goals as a Community Manager for Mindnight is to enhance the current community we have with a lot of different events and changes, while also bringing in a lot more players to the community. A real problem I have seen recently is players, whether they are new or veterans, are being driven away from the game for the toxicity. To change this I plan to make an introduction manual for the new players that give ground rules for the game and possibly add in a competitive mode that is level locked for the veterans where they can run free without worrying about new players who don't have a lot of knowledge about the game. Overall, I plan on making the game community a better place emotionally and reducing the toxicity for everyone.
Last but not least, what are some other games that you play beside MINDNIGHT?
Ivan: Some recurring games would be Helldivers, Rimworld, Warframe and Guild Wars 2, i tend to go back to them once in a while. Some all-time favourites include Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Undertale, Crosscode, OneShot and Mario&Luigi Superstar Saga. I've also been loving Gwent in the last few weeks and i'll often pick up Smash Ultimate during the week. Andrew: For other games that I play, I play on PC, PlayStation, and Switch. For both of those, I have a wide spread of games, but the games that are my personal favorites (which I have also put the most amount of time into) are CS:GO, the Dark Souls trilogy, Destiny (not 2 though), Dragon Ball FighterZ, the Persona series, the Star Wars Battlefront series, NieR: Automata, the Animal Crossing series, Mario Odyssey, Wizard of Legend, the Smash Brothers series, and A LOT of ROMs and emulators (I can go into specifics if anyone wants me to). There are many others but those are among my favorite games.
Any final regards that you might have for the community?
Ivan: I'm confident this will be a terrific learning experience and i'll do my best to have a positive impact in the community. I look forward to working with you all! Andrew: Lastly, I hope that everyone will accept me as the new Community Manager for No Moon, and I will serve you to the best of my ability. Let's all make the community a better place! Thanks! MINDNIGHT TEAM

Hello MINDNIGHTERS! we just pushed a very small hotfix addressing the issue with player names and reputation buttons not showing in some cases. Happy hacking, your MINDNIGHT Devs.
ART STUDIO RELEASED
With over 500 community skins created and submitted on MINDNIGHT's Discord Server, we have decided that now is time to streamline the process of community skin creation, submission and implementation. The Art Studio Discord section is the start of this streamlining.
What does this mean for MINDNIGHT?
The Art Studio is a section in MINDNIGHT's Discord Server where passionate community members now have their own special tidy little corner where they can create skins, maps, discuss with other fellow creators and even submit skins for approval to be implemented in the game. We want through the Art Studio to take care of passionate community members, grow together, make MINDNIGHT a better game from a visual point of view while rewarding anyone contributing. MINDNIGHT is everyone's game.
How does it work?
The Art Studio might seem overwhelming at start, but it is quite straightforward if you carefully read the descriptions of each channel. The Art Studio Section on the Discord Server consists of the following channels:
- #info-read-me - Where you can find out everything about how the Art Studio functions
- #skin-guide - Quite self-explanatory - redirecting everyone towards a newly created skin guide
- #community-skins - The old, but moved channel where everyone can post their ideas and concepts
- #pending-skins - @Artists post skins here taken from #community-skins that they deem suitable in terms of theme and quality to be added to the game
- #approved-skins - @Dev-Artists post skins here taken from #pending-skins that were approved by them and the skin creator can now start creating animations for that specific skin
- #completed-skins - This is where @Dev-Artists will post completed skins that already are zipped and animated, for No Moon Developers, to get them implemented in the game.
- #skins-gallery - This is the gallery that has compiled all skins created thus far from #community-skins. Over 500 community skins.
How can I contribute?
Just join the Discord server and start creating! We've built the Art studio to be supportive of newcomers for creating MINDNIGHT skins, we know many of you love the idea of adding your own skin into MINDNIGHT and we want to make the process easier for you. The new and freshly written guide for creating skins will get you started with pixelart tips, but we also invite you to discuss in the Art Studio section, where you also can tag our talented community members & art developers with the new @Artists role, which has been added to help you receive better feedback and give more voice for the talented community members!

Hello MINDNIGHTERS! A small update is live now with very few specific changes and some surprises. In relation with our recent blog post about Bots and how they grew to be more than just a way to handle disconnections, into a reason for some players to abuse their patterns - we have decided to make some long-awaited changes to them. https://store.steampowered.com/newshub/app/667870/view/2074411495522256418
BOT CHANGES
We need to make sure though that you understand what are bots for and how we have intended them to function in the first place. Bots were initially implemented as a way to handle disconnections. We have made them as intelligent as we could to mirror the behaviour of humans. By doing so, we have also made them do some actions in extreme cases in the same way each time - because that's what humans would do. E.g: Refusing certain proposals or proposing certain people in the game. That being said we have changed the behaviour of the bots now, but as you may already know - we cannot disclose how they work. We have done this in the hopes that we would do this from time to time, in order to scramble patterns and not let players that want to create an advantage for their team read into them easily. This is a first step towards resolving the issue of some players reading bot patterns or creating metagame rules around bots. Soon after we will make other changes as well, in order to solve disconnection problems in different ways, so that bots would become an underpowered mechanic that would not be used to gain an advantage in anyway. You can read more about what we want to do in our blog post about Bots. https://store.steampowered.com/newshub/app/667870/view/2074411495522256418 If you have suggestions on how to handle disconnections, by going away from bots - we invite you on our Discord Server where you can post suggestions and discuss with other passionate community members and developers
OTHER STUFF
In other news - it's 1st of April. Enjoy and don't hate us. The times are strange. We needs to adjust. NTF need to adjust. Will you? P.S: If you bought a skin that you can get for free, your credits will be refunded. Don't worry. Cheers, MINDNIGHT TEAM
Hey there MINDNIGHTERS! This will be our first ever developer blog post. In these series we will try to cover development, justify new features, share interesting game facts, highlighting community feedback and elaborate on how MINDNIGHT is evolving. We also want to open a dialogue in order to get the valuable feedback that we need to make sure we are taking the right decisions moving forward.
Why Blog Posts now?
First, we are conscious that until now the discussions around the game have been mainly happening on our Discord Server, but we know that not all of you are there, thus we want to expand our reach and try to gather community feedback from everywhere we can. Second purpose for these blog posts in the following period is to present the issues that MINDNIGHT currently faces, argue why we call them issues and compile a list of solutions for each issue, in order to make better decisions, develop and change features while letting everyone contribute with their opinions and feedback.
Celebration! Over 200k total players!
Its been over two years since our journey on MINDNIGHT began and were so happy that youre here with us for this milestone. You guys are a total of 200.000 unique players that installed and played MINDNIGHT at least once. Thats around an average of 7000 new players each month since we launched the game. MINDNIGHT is also the 2nd most popular game in the Social Deduction genre.
As you can imagine with each anniversary theres a celebration, and as you can guess, we want to celebrate with you all in MINDNIGHT. Youll see something really interesting in the game in the next few days so stay tuned!
Improving Community Suggestions Process
We are improving our pipeline to gather and address community ideas, suggestions and improvement inquiries. On our Discord Server we have introduced a new and improved #suggestions channel where users can directly post their suggestions now, have their suggestions upvoted and automatically be added to our list of to-do and backlog. If you want to suggest something you can do so by joining our Discord Server, and posting into the #suggestions channel using the command !suggestion and typing your suggestion in the same message as the command. After that the suggestions will be added to a queue and a reaction will be automatically assigned to it.
When it will reach 10 upvotes it will be added to our backlog and we will start discussing it. The system will be adjusted in time in accordance to the interest the channel will have. We might increase or decrease the upvotes threshold needed for a suggestion to be added to our to-do list.
Our views on METAGAMING
What is Metagaming? Metagaming is any strategy, action or method used in a game which transcends a prescribed ruleset, uses external factors to affect the game, or goes beyond the supposed limits or environment set by the game. Metagaming is usually not explained in a game, although some games make exceptions and they introduce certain elements of metagaming as descriptive parts of the game (e.g: Overwatch Roles - Support/Damage Dealer/Tank etc.) We are not against metagaming and all multiplayer games that have a high degree of strategy and tactics will eventually have you try to create optimized strategies in order to create a more reliable and safe game space for themselves. Now, MINDNIGHT is not a game that was built with reliability in mind (we have built it specifically to create gameplay, ONLY out of dialogue and action deduction) - that is why many of you seek ways to create reliability and find step-by-step metagame strategies to obtain an advantage over other players that you encounter. To some degree that will always happen and some metagame rules will always exist, that we are even considering implementing in the game, including in the tutorial. But, the reality is that more than often, some metagame rules unbalance the game and are a constant subject of harassment. We do not tolerate any kind of harassment and we have seen that some metagame rules came together with a lot of negativity in public matches, toxicity and bad image around our company and game. This is why we wanted to open this discussion in blog posts and explain why certain metagame rules are in fact cheating, or they unbalance the game substantially, and discuss how we would like to tackle these mechanisms in order to shape MINDNIGHT into the experience that everyone wants. A safe, fun and scalable gameplay environment with balanced game sessions.
MINDNIGHT Development Goals
We were watching several weeks ago one of Marks essays on video game design, and there is a thing that Mark says in this video that really resonated with us as something that really is important for MINDNIGHT. Mark said - Try not to discourage players to play in a certain way, but encourage them to play the way you envisioned https://youtu.be/7L8vAGGitr8 We have looked long and hard at the bigger picture and really examined what our goals are with MINDNIGHT and how we can achieve them, before making any big changes. We now feel that we have a better understanding of what we want to to achieve and how to achieve it. We will share all details in these blog post series and await your feedback and opinions. We can sum the development goals of MINDNIGHT as follows:
- We want to evolve MINDNIGHT into a game that emphasizes the importance of passive information and communication, rather the information that some players invent or exploit through metagame strategies.
- We want you to feel rewarded when you are nice to other players, non-toxic and overall focused on the match to communicate.
- We want you to not feel punished whenever you are playing in a particular style that might not be in line or synced with the other players in a game session
- We want you to not exploit a particular mechanic in order to gain advantage over other players, unless you are just better at communicating, deducing and manipulating
- We want you to have agency, but not be harassed by other players whenever you choose to do something in a particular way
- We want you to feel a sense of progression, but really not blame or rage whenever a game does not end with a Victory.
- Exploits and Metagaming
- Toxicity and Raging
- Motivation and Competitiveness
Bot Reading and Bot Exploits
Introduction
We will be starting with one of the most important issues that the game faces now, in order to slowly start aligning the game to the new direction. We have introduced bots into the game primarily as a way to replace a disconnected player and have the game continue as seamlessly as possible for the rest of the players in the game session, without interruptions. Our goal with the Bots was and still is to create a complex framework of artificial intelligence that tries to behave to their best ability to replicate human decisions in order to serve their objective. Either to not get caught as a hacker and to get into missions as an agent. Bots have some patterns, because there are certain situations that they cannot accept or refuse certain missions because it doesnt serve their objective. But - bots also have in some decisions a form of randomness in order to simulate humans unpredictable behaviors. We call it controlled randomness. We never wanted to share exactly how bots work, because of obvious reasons - but many players have argued and complained that the bots became readable in time. Patterns became more and more clear for experienced players and this gave an unusual advantage to players that knew and knew how to exploit the system. It is needless to say that we will never be able to make bots totally random, because well - humans are not totally random in this game - and that would only create more gameplay problems than solve them. But - lets not forget the main objective of bots. Replacing a disconnected player and continuing the game.
Some players or more specifically Agent players started abusing the bots behavior for information - according to experienced players, here's how the current behavior works: [olist]
Well - frankly speaking - players wanting more reliable gameplay outcomes is the cause of the problem. Any way that a player can take advantage and win a game - is a good excuse for exploiting a mechanic. Making bots not have a ruleset, will make the bots have no value. What are the consequences of this problem? Whenever a bot is tested by agents, hackers are put into a significant unfair disadvantage Significantly lowers the quality of matches, due to how reliable bot testing is sometimes.
We will try as much as possible, periodically - sometimes without notice to make the bots unreadable and non-abusable, but solutions and discussions will not be limited to that, we are open to different mechanics for disconnected players. The next update will have changes in bots and we think that will make them non-abusable for a while.
That is why we want to propose the following solutions and we want your thoughts around them: We are considering adding a feature when after a player disconnects a match, to let the players choose if they want to continue the match or not with a Bot replacement - while also making the match not count as a win, nor as a loss - if continued. Changing their behavior periodically in order to not become abusable - but within a ruleset that is not 100% random.
You might say - make them completely random. There are pros and cons to that.
- Bots behavior is completely unreadable
- Hackers hesitate to hack when included with their hacker bot teammate. This is good because when bots are unreadable, they become agents disadvantage
- It becomes a great disadvantage for agents, because even if the bot is an agent, its complete randomness makes it difficult to convince it for their proposals and they cant gain reliable information about its role.
- Agent bots can become the hackers advantage, by accepting their proposals or hackers framing the proposals.

Happy St. Patrick's everyone! You are now able to put your hands on two new deals, one including a small Leprechaun skin!
We have also added a few new skins that you can check out in the shop now:
- Mr. Whom
- Town Drunk
- Cyber Thug
- Gimp
- Gnome
- Holo Grant
- OK Hand
- and.....a Snowman
We have just pushed a small update with the following changes:
- Fixed the ghost lobbies. The lobbies without any player shouldn't be there now anymore.
- Improved custom games browser.
Hey there everyone - we are doing an update with some important new improvements. Among the changes the game can now support voice chat on MacOS devices and we have made some preparations for other changes that will come soon in a bigger update.
Community-driven Development
As we are moving forward in support MINDNIGHT and trying to update it more often, although we are working on it in our free time, we decided to open the discussion even more than just our Discord Server, around some changes that we would like to make in order to make MINDNIGHT a better, safer game. In order to do that we will start posting some blog posts here on Steam - and we will invite everyone to review and suggest solutions to some issues and gameplay changes that we will make. We will try our best to explain our vision and justify the changes that we would like to make, and well listen very carefully and take all of your feedback into consideration. Now lets get into the changes that we made in this update and prepare for a bigger update soon.
Improvements
- Added support for animations for static skins such as Xmas Tree, Cake etc. that are not conveying to the default classic skin template
- Implemented a moderator in-game tool that can be used to manually ban players in extreme cases faster
- Changed the End Game Screen layout in preparation for the Reputation System development
- Added a Game Rating feature in the End Game Screen, where players can now rate the game that they just played with stars. We will use these ratings internally to improve the game.
- The number of active ongoing custom games are now displayed in the main menu
- MacOS users can now play Custom Games with Voice Chat
- Small performance improvements when loading
- We changed the time allowed for a player to join a match if he disconnected from 5 minutes to 3 minutes. Players will now need to join a game back faster, in order to avoid punishments
- We have changed the punishment amounts for when a player would leave a game. The first penalty was changed from 5 minutes to 30 minutes The second penalty was changed from 15 minutes to 1 hour The third penalty was changed from 30 minutes to 24 hours The forth penalty was changed from 1 hour to 7 days
Bug Fixes
- Fixed a bug where emotes would be broken when a player would type colored names
- Fixed an issue where the chat would break when typing extremely long words
- Fixed a typo in the Reputation System Widget
- Fixed a glitch that would trigger when pop-ups would be active in the game menus
- Fixed a bug where the Cake Skin would be mirrored in-game
- Fixed a bug where the animated background in the main menu would enable again after playing a match
Notes
- The issue with achievements being claimed twice, was identified as not a bug, as the bug only occurs only on the client side. On the server side players receive the correct amount of credits and achievements cannot be claimed multiple times
Hey there MINDNIGHTERS, We wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for supporting MINDNIGHT so far and for continuing to play it! For the first time we have reached a milestone that we have never thought we will ever achieve after 2 years after launch. For the very first time we have Overwhelmingly Positive Recent Reviews. More specifically 99% of the last 30 days reviews (116 Reviews) are Positive Reviews! This may not mean a lot for the regular Steam user/player but for the perception of the game and for our motivation is incredibly important. Last but not least, having 99% recent positive reviews also means that MINDNIGHT was pushed in the Steam Visibility Algorithm and this is all because of you! Thank you! Despite the obvious problems that MINDNIGHT faces, such as toxicity, low playerbase, meta-game harassment, not so often updates and balance issues - we want to express our gratitude and humble thanks to all of you out there that believe in the concept and in our team. As we are moving forward, we are working hard parallelizing three fronts around MINDNIGHT: [olist]
It's December, so that means another year has passed. Another interesting year in which MINDNIGHT evolved into something that we have never imagined when we first released the game after a couple of months of development, after a short game jam. Christmas is the perfect season to reach out to others when laughter and good tidings are in the air. Heres hoping that your Christmas will find you among family and friends, sharing the spirit of the season. We would want to take this chance to tell you to try to not be toxic or in anyway mean to anyone in MINDNIGHT and in any other online game these days. Some players out there that maybe have no family and want to distract themselves from this time of year by playing some games. Instead, be mindful, kind and warm. We are doing a giveaway on our Discord with DLC Keys and Redeem Codes for in-game coins. Come and get your key while it lasts! If you don't want to join our Discord server you can also redeem the keys from here: :hacker: 50 DLC Hack Me Hard - Redeem here: http://tiny.cc/DLCgiveaway :credits: 100 Uses - Redeem 10.000 in-Game Credits: ace944b849 Cheers, MINDNIGHT TEAM
We just released a very small update with the following fixes:
- Ingame Gesture Toggle Button had wrong colors
- Load Static City Background after a match if selected
- Winter Bundles not visible in the shop
We have just pushed a small update when we fixed the following issues:
- Fixed an issue where players would only be able to report just one player at the end of a game. Now player can report multiple players again by accessing the Thumbs Down Menu, and pressing on the Report Button.
- Fixed an issue where some thumbs down and thumbs up buttons for the Reputation System could not be clicked
INTRODUCTION
When we have developed MINDNIGHT back in 2017, we have developed it with a small team at No Moon, in a game jam. We had plenty of ideas of what we wanted to do back then while we were working on another game - a top-down melee multiplayer RPG (since then cancelled). We said a game jam, would take some steam off the team and get our creative heads active. But we decided on MINDNIGHT - because it was close to our hearts - most of us played before social deduction games such as Werewolf and The Resistance. So we said - let's take The Resistance and try to adapt it to a digital format. While developing the game, we had in our minds only the wholesome and deeply frustrating, but fun moments of these type of games. We hoped that people from all around the world would be able to experience that, but in a digital format - scaled well and wrapped up in a very cool concept, narrative and setting. Fast forward now, after 2 years - we are very surprised what the game represents now and how a community was build around it. There is no question that the game still has many issues, many issues that we were unable to solve in time, or solve at all to this day. There is no question that parts of the games' community has become problematic due to harassment and toxicity. We never knew and we are still challenged each day by how we should handle this, since we are good at making games - not at managing communities. We tried to learn in time some things, but we are still nowhere near where we would like to be. For that being said, we wanted to start communicating with the community more, here on Steam, through regular posts so that we can explain our stance on different issues, explain new features and shed a light on our thought process and design decisions. Last but not least, we want this to also be an opportunity for everyone in the community to keep us in check, give feedback and discuss how we should shape MINDNIGHT in the game that you would like to play.
THE REPUTATION SYSTEM
We have recently pushed a new update, the Halloween update, where we focused on content and we started doing some fixes and roll out new features. One of the new features that we introduced partially is the REPUTATION SYSTEM. What is the reputation system? Inspired by some other popular multiplayer online games, we decided to design and implement a reputation system that would allow you give other players likes and dislikes. Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down. These binary ratings also have an underlying layer to them where they can split in several compliments or complaints.
Why add a reputation system We wanted to add a reputation system for several reasons: [olist]
- Friendly For those of you that know how to behave, help others and are genuinely good with no toxicity lying under your skin.
- Communicative For those of you that communicate well, politely and are focused on the game's objectives.
- Teamplayer For those of you that simply play really well, collaborate well with others and can easily help the general cause of your team's objective objective
- Rude For those of you that have a foul mouth and cannot stop harassing others with your ill-intended and noisy behaviour.
- Non-Communicative For those of you, that simply do not communicate at all, or you communicate topics that have nothing to do with the objective and gameplay at hand.
- Gamethrower For those of you that go against your objective, reveal your role and refuse to adapt to others and to your team's objective.
Report System vs Reputation System
Many of you have asked where is the report system, since it's not present at the end of a match anymore. By introducing the Reputation System, we have also taken this opportunity to hide the report buttons under the Thumbs Down Function, making everyone not able to see the report button the first thing after they finish a game. We all know how salty and frustrating some social deduction games tend to be in the end, and we decided not to have lots of report buttons on the screen, because as humans we are reactive and make bad decisions sometimes. When we introduced the Report System, we did not want it to become a center piece element of the end game. We wanted it to be there in order to let the community to self regulate itself. By moving the report button behind the Thumbs Down function, we hope that we will see lower report numbers, and have players "punish" other players by using the Thumbs Down function without reporting. The report should be only used in extreme cases by all players. As a consequence, after just a few days, we see a substantial decline in reports and bans - which we hope will help new players adapt to the game in a safer, more friendlier environment.
Expanding the Reputation System
Now that we went through our motivations, thoughts and design decisions, we want to give you a glimpse in all of the gameplay elements that we are working on right now, in order to receive your thoughts and comments around them. These possible mechanics of the Reputation System, are work in progress and it's needless to say that they are final in any form. It is important to know that right now the Reputation System does not communicate nor affect any other gameplay system. The mechanics that we are thinking and working on adding to expand the Reputation System are: [olist]
CONCLUSION
We are aware that the Reputation System does not solve all issues that the game have but we think this is a step towards a better game and community. We also know that we don't hold the universal truth and we don't make the best decisions all the time, that is why we want you, our community to keep us in check so we don't tunnel vision on some aspects and trigger a fuss around decisions made in our design cave with no contact outside in the real world. These are all of the things that we wanted to share with you so far and we would love to have you part of the decisions, give us feedback and help us develop them in a sane way to create a better and safer environment in MINDNIGHT. We would also like to hear your suggestions on how would you like us to communicate with you, and if you would like for us to do other things such as AMAs, Streams, Interview, Youtube Videos etc. Please leave a comment below by hitting the discuss button and/or join our discord and be part of the discussion.
Happy Halloween!
Time to carve out the agent, bring out the candies and let's get hacking. We are introducing a super special update where we bring some changes, a new feature that will expand over time and lots of new skins and emoji. Beside Halloween, here at No Moon, we are also celebrating the 2 year anniversary of MINDNIGHT, and we want to take this chance to thank you all for playing and supporting the game for so long - or just simply to welcome you in the MINDNIGHT family if you are new around the block. These last two years were a real rollercoaster for us, trying to juggle the difficulties of a new start-up company, seek funding for other projects we have in the pipeline, freelancing or even having a full-time job with constantly being challenge by you our beloved community to keep the game alive, updated and fresh. After 26 updates, we feel that we still did not scratch the entire vision that we had and we have for the game.
What we have in plan
We still have many issues that we want to fix and many features that we still have in the backlog. We will bring these to you as soon as we can, and we also wanted to let you know that we are already working on some! Some of the things that are planned include:

Halloween 2.7.0
Now let's see what we have in store in this new 2.7.0 - Halloween Update:
New
- Reputation System In our efforts to make MINDNIGHT a more safe and enjoyable environment for both new players and veterans we have decided to add a system in which players can praise each other for their good plays and behavior. We have implemented this preliminary version of the Reputation System, where players can vote on their good or bad behavior at the end of each match. The Reputation system does not influence anything at this time, but we would like to update the feature in small steps and bring the rest of the system into place gradually. We would like to find out if you enjoy this feature and if you think this brings value to MINDNIGHT and your gameplay experience. Furthermore, we plan to add new modules and experiment with them as follows: - Positive reputation points will be shown in the Profile Screen - Reputation progression to reflect a players level of good or bad behavior
- We have added a total of 10 new skins
Trick or treat and be scary. May you have a Halloween full of candy. Halloween Special Skins!
We have added four skins to celebrate Halloween:
Frankenstella
Scabber
Jack o Lantern - Limited until 5th November
Stan - Limited until 5th November
We have also added 5 non-Halloween skins: Hobo Joe
The Human Pizza
Penny
Misung
Chavo
Last but not least - to celebrate 2 years since MINDNIGHT came to life, we have added a special 2-year anniversary skin. Cake
- We have added 8 new emojis:
- Time - available by default
- Cactus
- Sleepy
- Nervous
- Celebrate
- Smug
- Suspicious
- Mindblown
OS Support

Hello! We just updated the game with a small patch.
Fixed:
- A bunch of Typos - Party Screen
Improved:
- Main Menu sounds
Changed:
- General Chat is minimized by default now
Hey there folks,
Long time no see. As always. We will try to make this announcement short and sweet so that you can go back playing.
We are super excited to announce that we have just pushed a new update 2.6.0 which contains our first iteration of VoIP. Courtesy of Vivox. Thank you Vivox!
From now on you will be able to create custom games with friends or strangers alike and play MINDNIGHT by communicating via your microphone. In-game you will still be able to type, but whenever someone will talk through his microphone, a small icon will be displayed above that specific player so that everyone will have an easy time following who is talking during gameplay.
This might seem like a small update, but this is our first step towards expanding the MINDNIGHT universe towards other platforms later this year. Yeap, in case you havent heard it from our Discord yet, we are preparing a mobile version of MINDNIGHT that will be available for both Android and iOS platforms. We cannot say for certain when that would be released, but its gonna be ready when its gonna be ready.
This mobile version will be loyal to its PC version and it will not change gameplay, offer weird in-app purchases or other mobile gimmicks. All additional features (top secret) that will be added on mobile, will be available on PC as well, and vice-versa. What??! Don't you guys have phones or what?
Work in progress!
The game will be cross-platform so everyone will be able to play on the same servers the same version of MINDNIGHT, together, forever.
We are working hard to balance things out in the reporting system, roll out more bans over overly toxic or abusive players. We made a promise and we will deliver on it. We will improve and grow MINDNIGHT until everyone on the planet will play the game at least once. And Pewdiepie, for the memes of course. It's just like Dark Souls.
Thats all for now, we wont spoil anything else about that version of the game.
Last but not least - thank you to all of you that have helped test out everything before updating the game.

Still Closed!
Cheers, be respectful in-game and if you have any feedback don't hesitate to join our Discord and wreck the channels.
Btw, the game is not dying. You're dying. We will make it grow once again soon, don't you worry. Watcha going to do about it? Help us or what?
MINDNIGHT TEAM
Is it hot in here? We just updated the Server with a small hotfix update. This update should fix the bugged out matches that were caused by the Party system. At this point, I want to say sorry for the issues we had and also thank you for the help in hunting that nasty bug. Here is a Redeem as a small excuse: "0b63a26248". As always please let us know if you encounter any bug or issue with the game. The best way to do that is to join our discord discord.gg/mindnight . Also, this update brings the Community Skin Bundle III, so you can get all the skins that were added with 2.5.0 at once. Have a nice day!
It's now or never. You can now play with players that are similar in skill and level. With new skins, new maps created by the community and new music, it's the best time to stop complaining about noobs and start playing with real people.
Yes, noobs, we are working on a tutorial, we have heard it and we will do our best to implement it as fast as possible.
In other news, we are working on the mobile version and we will do more and more efforts to bring more players to MINDNIGHT!
Meanwhile, read those worthwile changes that will blow your mind"

Scrape together, hoard the talented, forgather the pixels and cluster your ideas onto MINDNIGHT's first Map Contest. Since the last Skin Community Creation contest, we have been asked hundreds of times when would we organize the next community contest. Here we are now! We hope you gathered all your strength and patience cause this will be a hard one. A lot of explanation to do and a lot of instructions to respect in order to qualify as being the Map BG King. In addition in winning a lot of In-Game Credits, your map will be implemented in the game and we will also send a shiny nice MINDNIGHT T-shirt to your house. It will smell of indie developers, we apologize in advance. You should wash it before wearing it. In order to participate you need to create a map background for MINDNIGHT in 2 weeks. The contest will be over on the 22nd of July. Current map backgrounds are two, Subway and Backalley. You can see them here.
Technical instructions
In order to create a map you need to know the following technical instructions: [olist]
Artistic instructions
There is not much to tell here, but we recommend in using the same perspective in order to keep the map consistent with other maps. The perspective that we are talking it's a one-point perspective where buildings and objects have their sides hidden and not visible. See the other two maps for your reference. You have creative freedom as long as it does not contain nudity, sexual and religious themes or other subjects that are perceived as being controversial topics in the world right now. You cannot depict alive or dead characters or locations with religious or political meaning. It's a plus if the map will contain lore elements and/or it's part of San Francisco, where most of the action and story takes part in MINDNIGHT. If you are keen in using or respecting the lore, here you will find a resume of the game's lore.
Prizes and Rules
[olist]
THE WINNERS WILL RECEIVE:

Hey there guys, We have just pushed another patch and we are working around the hour to tweak and fix any issues. Thank you for your patience and help to make MINDNIGHT better. Patch Notes:
- Tweaked the penalities when abandoning a game
- All the faulty penalties should now be reseted, let us know if this issue persists on our discord.gg/mindnight
- Tweaked the number of reports that are needed for a player to be banned in certain situations
- Improved the general AI behavior - we will keep improving this in order to create a more human-like behavior
Hey there, Thanks a lot for your recent response and feedback! We have done another hot fix, addressing some of the recent feedback that you, the community expressed in the last 24 hours. Explanations and reasoning behind the recent decisions that we've made are explained below the patch notes, including what we have done in this hotfix to address any issues that we had in the latest update. For us it's very important to put all of our efforts in making MINDNIGHT a better game and listening to you feedback as fast as we can. Last but not least, we apologize for any inconvience or ill intented feelings you had to put up with during the last major update 2.2. Hotfix Patch Notes:
- We have disabled the Level Based Matchmaking for now, to counter long queue times. This is a temporary solution, until we modify the system with a more versatile approach
- We have re-added the Find Game button in Custom Game Lobbies, as a temporary solution until we will introduce the Party System. When the Party system will be introduced, the Custom Game Lobbies will not be connected in anyway anymore, with any other game mode queue
- Renamed Casual Mode to Quick Play to emphasize the fact that this is the quickest way to find a game, although some players may be queued up with players of different skill levels
Thought process, Reasoning and Future Plans
After doing the recent update we have observed an incredible response from some of you and the amount of feedback that we received is overwhelming. Thanks a lot for your diligence and your effort to make the game better together with us. We have listened to your recent feedback regarding two main issues: [olist]
Longer Queue Times/Level Based Matchmaking
Our thought process of introducing a Level Based Matchmaking was to address the complaints from some of the players, having to play against or with players that are not similar to close to their skill level. The only way to define someone's skill right now - is through the meta-game system. Levels. Using this, we have decided to make people queue up in groups of levels. Level 1-10, Level 10-20 and Level 20-30. This ensures that players of similar levels/skill will be queued together, and new players will have more room to learn in a safe environment without having to be called names for not knowing the subtlety of the game mechanics yet. At the same time, more experienced players are having better quality games, by playing with similar experienced players. We have foreseen the issue that we are confronting with now - longer queue times. Because of the Level Based Matchmaking, players are now experiencing longer queue times, and sometimes can wait up to 10 minutes to find a game in their level group. Conclusion - As a temporary solution, the level-based matchmaking will be disabled, until we will develop the system in a more versatile way to accommodate the queue times. As a solution in the future we will try to modify the system so that when someone from a level group will wait more than X seconds, his level group will automatically be lowered, for shorter queue times. We will constantly listen to your feedback and let us know if this will feel good in the future. Our top priotity is to find the best solution to balance queue times, but also have more experienced players and new players a little bit separated. We are renaming the Casual Mode into Quick Play, with the disclaimer that sometimes you might play against players that are not of the same skill level as you are. This disclaimer is shown in the tooltip of this respective game mode. Ranked mode is being worked on, and this game mode will automatically have longer queue times because of the ELO system-based matchmaking that we will introduce. We will, on the other hand, compensate by having only 6-man matches.
Queuing up with Friend, Cheating and Party System
In the latest update we decided to remove the Find Game button in Custom Game Lobbies. This decision was made for the following reasons: [olist]
Dear players, We just updated the game with a small hotfix where we solved several issues and made a few improvements. Hackers, Agents, A much-expected update that we have delayed several times it's now love. We apologize for this late update, but we have worked very hard in refactoring the game's code, implement, fix and add new features to accommodate the current state of the game. Thanks a lot for your patience and your help in improving the game together with us. We have added a lot of things, and changed some elements in the game, but the most notable are the Automated Banning System, Penalty System and Join in Progress.
Automated Banning System
We are receiving more than 800 reports daily right now, and for us, as a small team it is clear that we cannot curate the game fast enough and well enough without an automated system. We will still ban players permanently manually for extreme cases, but depending on how many reports a player receives he will be banned incrementally from now on. First time 15 minutes, the second time 30 minutes and so on. If you are not reported for a while after a first ban, the incrementation will reset. You can reach a ban of 10 days if you are banned constantly. Everyone can still be permanently banned if someone is getting reported too often by a lot of different players. We will get notified and we can apply a perma-ban manually. A player is banned taking into account different factors such as: how often he is reported and by who. If another player reports players very often, his reports will not have the same value over time. This way we make sure that a player it's not banned because a player that reports others players with no reason. If a player received a report from another player, a second report from the same player will not be taken into account anymore for a while.
Join in Progress
We all get disconnected from time to time or for some unexpected reason our power will turn off our computer. Now, players can rejoin the match in the maximum period of 5 minutes. In order to win a game, you need to be online at the end of the game. If you are not at the end of a game for any reason you will lose the game by default, together with any winning streak. In the Main Menu, we also have now the option of Abandoning a game. By Abandoning a game, a Penalty will be activated.
AFK/Leaving Game Penalty System
When a player abandons a game now consciously he will receive a penalty. The penalty will not allow a player to search for a new game anymore for 30 minutes. This time can change as we are experimenting and we are open to feedback. The penalty will be applied in the following cases: abandoning a game from inside the game and canceling the re-join option in the main menu and for when a player will not rejoin a game in the first 5 minutes. The penalty also resets after a while and it is not permanent. Now - the complete change list for 2.2.0:

Merry X-mas, hackers, agents, elfs and mandeers!
How could we celebrate X-mas better without having a new feature to make us all love each other and at the same time trying to be a little less salty when playing a MINDNIGHT game session. Therefore, we give you the opportunity to be better, to be kind, to care about others through the new Reporting System. Have you ever been annoyed at someone and you want to send him an x-mas present wrapped in a game report? Now you have the chance. Sup hackerz? We just updated the game with a few small changes and a lot of improvements both on the server and client side. Thanks a lot to everyone that helped us find issues and bugs and for all of the reports. For those of you that want to contribute and help us improve the game going on, do not forget we have a very active Discord community here. Join us and let's make MINDNIGHT better together. For the next period of time we will focus on the X-mas update that brings a few new features and themed content. ːsteamhappyː Without further ado, these are the changes that we just pushed:
Gameplay changes:
- We have changed the lenght of the talking phases, and incremented them depending on which node the game is at a specific moment. The old value for all node talking phases was 70 seconds. New values: Node 1 Talking Phase - 30 seconds Node 2 Talking Phase - 45 seconds Node 3 Talking Phase - 60 seconds Node 4 Talking Phase - 75 seconds Node 5 Talking Phase - 90 seconds Old Talking Phases Total Lenght - 350 Seconds (6 minutes) New Talking Phases Total Lenght - 300 seconds (5 minutes) We have made this change because it is in line with the amount of dialogue that is going on in each phase. The further the node, the more everyone has to talk about.
- Added text colors for the following words to highlight words that are related to gameplay for both Agents and Hackers: GREEN - secure, secures, secured, securing, agent, agents RED - hack, hacks, hacked, hacking, hacker, hackers
Fixes and improvements:
- Fixed a general issue that glitched the server in several situations. There are situations where the problem might persist. If so, please help us identify them.
- Fixed a high CPU usage issue when a lot of messages were sent in games
- Fixed an issue when the Hide UI button was not instancing all menus and screens
- Fixed an issue where when a player is too late for an lobby invite via Steam and clicks the invite later, the game was stuck in a functional loop.
- We have fixed a potential exploit where a tooltip was different in the UI, making players know who were the hackers and who were the agents by asking what the tooltop sais. The tooltip caption was now replaced with a neutral tooltip for both Agents and Hackers.
- Fixed the tooltip for the Reject mission button
- Fixed an issue where names such as Hanna and Anna were not colored correctly.
- Fixed an issue where a player was 2x hacker, leading to some matches in having 2 hackers instead of 3, for example.

Hello fellow Agents, Hackers and Wish listers, We apologize for not doing more frequent updates, but we are looking at changing that from now on. As we are moving forward with the development of MINDNIGHT we would like to go through some subjects that are very important for us regarding going free-to-play, launching a new website for the game, expanding the community in a number of ways and adding new features to the game.
Going Free-to-play
TL; DR - We will go Free-to-Play starting 30th of November
Being our first published game, we believe we have learned a lot from this experience and we will constantly improve our pipeline for our other more ambitious games. The recent narrative about pay-to-win games have also let us realize that sometimes it is not important on how much a game is worth, but what is important is that we want to share our work with as many players as possible that want to play our game, and they cannot right now because various reasons. Pay-to-win is a flawed concept, overused by game designers of free-to-play games. We believe that this kind of systems create bad habits and toxic behaviors. Spending to be good at a game should not be an option and we believe if someone will want to spend money on a game, they should not be forced in doing so. Manipulating human behavior is not what games are about, it's about triggering emotions, having fun and getting people together. Therefore, we decided to make MINDNIGHT, free-to-play with no microtransactions that will affect the gameplay in anyway. The only possible spending can be done only to customize your experience through unique additional visuals such as skins, emoji and gestures.
We are working to define compensation for the current players that have bought the games, and this will most probably translate into Coins in-game that can be used to buy skins, emoji and gestures to use in the game once the update is live
Update 2.0 - New Features
For the last 2 months we worked hard into creating a more interesting gameplay loop by adding improvements to the current gameplay, add new features and fix many bugs that we encountered since launch. With your help we have found a lot of bugs and we are proud to announce that we fixed most of them! Firstly, we have added a number of Visual Customization options to the game that we believe it will make your experience more fun and interesting by choosing to use one of the 18 skins, type in chat with newly implemented emoji and spice up things in-game with new gesture animations that can be accessed by typing in chat /cry, /facepalm etc. Skins, Emoji and Gestures can be unlocked through leveling up, or buying them from the Marketplace. These do not affect gameplay at all and we are not planning in doing something in this regard. Do not worry thought, there are some skins, emoji and gestures that are already unlocked from the start of the game.
We will also constantly update the game with new skins, emoji and gestures. Secondly, we have added a Progression System , through which you can now level up your account from 1 to 30. You can level up by playing games and acquiring experience. From time to time you will unlock rewards such as emoji, gestures and skins from level to level. Together with the progression system we now have a Leaderboard, where the best players are shown. You are also able to see your rank in this screen in comparison to other players. There are a lot of new features that we added, but the ones explained above are the most important. Other features that we implemented are:
- New Main Menu
- Profile and Stats
- Global Chat in Main Menu
- Friend List in Main Menu
- Player Database and Tracking System ....and more
As we heard complaints and we have seen users abusing and taking advantage of their anonymity we decided to work on a Reporting System, that will come a bit later. This will make sure that abusive players will face consequences and even be banned from the game if they do not respect other players. We are also working on integrating Voice Chat for custom games. Both these two features will not be available in Update 2.0.
New Website and Expanding Community
We have worked on a new website for the game that turned out really beautiful. Here is a sneak peak:
Together with this we are also expanding the ways the community can interact with us and discuss strategies. We have created a subreddit, where we will post announcements and discuss further updates. We are also opening up a Patreon page to let some players that wish to support us, get involved in development and help us cover server and marketing costs. We are also working on a Wiki Page where we will explain everything that is in game, from features, gameplay to skins and lore. Last but not least, we have a How to Play video ready to be integrated in the game and published on our pages for players that are new, to get accustomed with the concept.
We also have a new trailer, that it's 10x better than the first one. We hope this will help the game have more hackers and agents!
That being said, I hope you can support us next week into transitioning to Free-to-play, sharing our new trailers and start having fun in some deceiving games of MINDNIGHT. Thanks for being with us, this helps us a lot to move forward and try to do our best in development. Cheers! MINDNIGHT TEAM

Hey, I am Francisc, one of the MINDNIGHT developers. We wanted to thank you guys for your support and understanding during the launch. As you know, we will keep supporting and updating the game. In this context, we prepared a hotfix to resolve and improve some elements of the game. More so, as we are going through the first days of our release, we would also like to apologize for the long occasional matchmaking queues. For these times when it is difficult to find a match we created a discord channel so that we can gather more people in our community. Thank you for your understanding and your support.
