Today we made some updates to our Tournament Anti-Cheat System. First of all - yes, it exists. Secondly, we've made some improvements to it today that should no longer be flagging players incorrectly in some rare circumstances. To make sure no one remains incorrectly banned from participating in Tournaments, we have made a clean slate and unbanned all previously flagged players today. How does it work? In simple terms, it automatically checks the authenticity of your Tournament run files, and if something is fishy you may have the Tournament system disabled for you. The effect of this is that you'll no longer see the Seal appear on the main menu. The easiest way to get flagged is to try to manipulate your Tournament save files. Don't do that! (We don't care if you manipulate any single player save files, it's just the Tournament ones we check) What can I do if I get banned? We can unban you. The best way is to ask us on our Discord server , or you can send an email to support@abrakam.com. Make sure to tell us your Steam profile name. We're not looking to stop people from having fun, but we do want to try to keep the multiplayer boards fair. As always, thank you for playing Roguebook and supporting us. Feel free to ask any questions below.

Great news coming to the mystic world of Faeria!
The heroes of the Roguebook are thrilled to share that the game won the Grand Winner title at the 2022 NYX Game Awards for the Indie game category! (Let's hope Fugoro won't leave with the trophy... ) Thank you for all the support on the game without which we could not have hoped to win!

Hello All,
Fugoro has been released into the Roguebook! We hope you're excited to play the Merchant of Wonders and make use of his unique playstyle. He's very position orientated, with the melee, range, and swap cards to fulfill this playstyle, using coins to sync up with the other heroes and prepare some truly devastating combos. It can take a little prep work, but there are some extremely strong cards tucked away in this heroes deck.
Individually, Fugoro can be purchased for all runs here:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1704470/Roguebook__Fugoro_Merchant_of_Wonders/
Alternatively, we've added Fugoro to the Deluxe Edition, which has raised the price of the bundle to compensate. Existing owners of the Deluxe edition will not have access to automatic access to Fugoro as a playable character. Instead, they will be able to complete their collection with a 40% discount for any Deluxe Edition owners looking to master stick fighting.
https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/21277/Roguebook__Deluxe_Edition/
Lastly, Fugoro will be available in the tournament mode launching today for the entire weekend in various hero combinations. This game mode has a rotating selection of heroes and challenges for players to face scored both on speed and points scored. In the tournament mode, Fugoro will be available to all players regardless of whether or not you own the DLC. Give him a try and let us know what you think!

Todays major update introduces three new things:
- The Tournament system
- "Fugoro, Merchant of Wonders" - A new Hero DLC
- Bug Fixes
You won't need to get the Fugoro DLC to play him right away. In this update, we are guaranteeing him to appear in the first few days of tournaments - which means you can try him there as long as you like. After a few days, he'll go into the randomized hero pool with all the others. Fugoro has been a lot of work, and we think all players will enjoy him. We're pretty happy with how he's turned out. Tournaments however, may only be for some of you - but we encourage you to give them a try. We have always wanted to introduce a social competitive aspect to Roguebook, but knew it should be secondary to the main game. Finally, we have introduced a system we are happy with.
What are Story Tournaments?
Story tournaments are a competition between players to see who can complete a run the fastest, or score the most points. While similar to a daily run, story tournaments are special in that they start at the exact same time for everyone. This means that in order to finish first, youll likely need to be there at the starting line.
Why not a Daily Run?
We wanted to make these runs a special event that occurs only a couple times per day. The idea is to make these runs a more social and spectator friendly version of what is normally a daily run - something that is available for 24 hours and you can complete at your leisure. There is a bit of a gap in those between yourself and the other players that we wanted to close a bit. We imagine that some players will gather and rush to be the first to complete the tournament as soon as it starts, then those players who remain will go for the highest score. Your Finish time will always be from the time the tournament officially begins. For example, if the tournament starts at 6pm and you finish it at 8pm, your finish time will be 2 hours. Each tournament has a designated set of heroes, and 3 special modifiers. Embellishments are set the same for everyone, and everyone has the same exact seed. It does not matter what DLC you own when competing in a tournament. All heroes are available to everyone in any tournament. After the fastest players have finished, players can then compete to score the most points.
When do the tournaments start?
Twice a day, a new Story tournament is generated. We aim to start these tournaments at staggered times in order to accommodate as many players across the world as practical.
What are the rules of a tournament?
Each Story Tournament has the following rules:
- Everyone plays on the same run seed
- The run is set to Epilogue 6 difficulty
- All hero cards are unlocked
- A baseline of embellishments is applied to the seed (These embellishments are completely independent of what the player currently has. Everyone will have the same.)
- Three special tournament modifiers (mutators) are applied
What are the tournament modifiers?
Each run has 3 special modifiers applied to it. The first modifier will always be a Global modifier that affects everything in the run. The other two modifiers have a chance to be deck randomization or a hero-specific modifier. The end result should be a dramatically unique run each tournament, and hopefully only rarely broken.
What information can you see during the run?
- Your current highest ranking placement medal (This ranking is dynamically updated live)
- Time elapsed since the beginning of tournament
- Global statistics:
- Players: Total players entered into the tournament
- Deaths: Total players who have been defeated in the run (or abandoned)
- Finishers: Total players who defeated chapter 3
Placement and score:
Lockout periods
Once the tournament is close to ending, there are several lockout notifications that occur to players attempting to join, or currently playing. Less than 4 hours remaining: New players will be warned that only 4 players remain. Less than 1 hour remaining: Players are locked from joining the current tournament. You must wait to join the next. This is to prevent players from joining a tournament that they likely will not be able to finish. When a tournaments time expires, all player runs end and a new tournament begins.
How many runs can you do in the same tournament?
Only the first run (win or lose) will only count toward your leaderboard placement. Afterwards, you may retry that tournament as much as you like until the timer expires. You will not change your placement, but you can still earn pages.
How exactly do Speed and Score placements work?
Conclusion
We hope you enjoy this new major feature for Roguebook. We hope it will be a way for you to enjoy the game with friends and compare your performances in very special circumstances. As mentioned, this feature is being released simultaneously with our new hero, Fugoro - and you can find him in game right now in the tournament menu - or you can just pick up the DLC and play him normally. After a few days, he will have a chance to randomly appear in tournaments just like all of the other heroes. Youll never have to own him to play with him in a tournament. Thank you for playing Roguebook! Needless to say, this is probably the biggest update we've ever released in one day. Hope you like it.
Don't forget!
We're going to be checking out both the Tournament Mode (free content) and Fugoro (paid DLC) on stream tonight at Twitch where we'll walk you the content available in this update!

Our next major update on the 24th of February brings some big updates and new content. First off, the Merchant of Wonders, Fugoro will find himself trapped in the Roguebook for those who purchase him as DLC.
He will also be available for all players in the new Story Tournament mode.

The scoring category works different, players earning points for winning battles, and completing other objectives. You'll want to decide which category you're aiming for and act accordingly.

Congratulations on those eagle-eyed fans who realized that Fuguro, the merchant of wonders would be joining our other heroes in the Roguebook as DLC on February 24th. Additionally, Fuguro will be free to play on rotation in the Tournament Mode that will release at the same time for all players.
We'll have more details on both Fuguro and the Tournament Mode in the run-up to launch, but for now, here's a little teaser about how Fuguro plays.
Pirate, Hoarder, Frog Thief, Adventurer, Toad, what you call him may depend on whether your interactions with the Merchant of Wonder have brought you wealth or calamity. For those who find themselves trapped within the pages, of the Roguebook, perhaps it will be cathartic that the cause of their troubles will be joining them.
Fuguro is position-orientated, with a good spread of Melee, Ranged, and Swap cards to keep him moving. He's got some great combos, for those willing to put in the prep work to pull them off and makes use of coins and marks, with some special coins for synergizing with the other heroes.
Here's a sneak peek at some of his cards (click to expand):

Let it be known that another "hero" will find themselves trapped in the Roguebook on February 24th.
This mysterious stranger will be available in normal runs for those who have the DLC, or free to use at certain points in the Daily Tournmanent mode that will be released at the same time.

Overview
Before we get started talking about our first update of 2022, we want to wish you all a Happy New Year and hope you all had a great holiday season. Back onto the topics of updates, the first update this year adds some extra features and has a few balance adjustments.
Victory screen
We've added a new fully animated screen to celebrate when the heroes score a victory run. Fugoro's dark and corrupted shop will morph into a brighter and flourishing version, as the generally malevolent Roguebook becomes 'satisfied'.
New Sound FX
We have added 21 new unique sounds to specific cards in an effort to add a bit more depth and hero personality to battles. The following cards now have unique sound effects:
Sharra
- Smoke Bomb
- Shimmerstrike
- Lightning Draw
- Fan of Knives
- High Five
- Time Strike
Sorocco
- Fire Oil
- Buckle up
- Ogre Soup
- Dig
Seifer
- Dark Knowledge
- Ritual Strike
- Whipcrack
- Hex
Aurora
- Time stop
- Split the Timeline
- Toadsuit
- Battle Toads
- Triton Banquet
- Tadpals
- Quicken
Starting Loot Bag
When a new run begins, any Embellishments that give you items will all appear together inside of a loot bag instead of separate and sequentially. This hopefully will make the starting sequence for new runs more smooth and comprehensible. This is a quality of life feature we have wanted to add for some time.
Balancing
Thank you for your feedback on our recent balance discussion news post. In the end, we decided it would be best to focus only on the changes we think will have the most impact without disrupting the general Roguebook experience. We saw some great discussions that we truly appreciate. The following balance changes are being applied in this update:
Fill the Pot
Rarity changed from Common to Rare.
Empower
Rarity changed from Rare to Common. (This is to balance out Aurora's rarity pool after adjusting Fill the Pot)
Bronze Boomerang
Can now only be played once per turn.
Miscellaneous
- The in-game Credits have been updated
- Various minor bugs and glitches fixed
Conclusion
As we mentioned in our last update, this is a smaller update than typical as we are working on a larger one including a whole new Hero and the Tournament system. Not to mention preparation for the release on consoles. You can expect all of those in the next couple of months. Regardless, we hope you enjoy the latest additions to Roguebook. - Team Abrakam

Hello! We hope youre enjoying the latest changes to Roguebook. As mentioned in our recent patch notes, we are currently working on a new hero, a daily tournament system, and for the upcoming console release. These things are quite large in scope and will take until late February to be ready for release. In the meantime, we would like to provide a smaller update focused around balance changes and less about content.
Balance change discussion
There have been a lot of content additions since the initial release of Roguebook. We feel were at a point where it is worthwhile to consider the state of the game and make some adjustments. Specifically, we are looking at making it a little bit harder to get those crazy combos going. Lets be clear, we have intentionally tilted the game in the direction of game-breaking combos. We know it is fun to discover these and really crush your run from time to time - the problem we have is when it is happening in most runs. With all of the new content additions generally making the game easier, we feel it is a good time to tone some of these interactions back. The goal is to have a set of changes we can apply to the game in January, but we want to gather some community feedback first. We expect that we are going to be tampering with some of the cards that players really love - and were a bit concerned about taking away important pieces of fun that players like in the game. So, in short, wed like to show you our proposed balance change list, and hear your thoughts on it.
Proposed balance changes:
Change summary These changes intend to reduce the abundance of energy in Roguebook that can lead to players doing unfair things too easily, while also stopping enemies from doing unfair things to keep up. The hope is that players will be a bit less explosive, giving subtler synergies a chance to shine, and toning down enemies slightly so that they are less dangerous when you do not get your power cards and gems for a run. Dissolve will be added to the following cards:
- Concentrate
- Tea Time
- Aurora's Promise
- Rally
- Ogre Surge
- Ogre Cookie
- Rising Tempo Changed to Whenever you play an attack card instead of whenever you play a card.
- Bold Bargainer Cost increased to 2 energy from 1 energy.
- Unstable Concoction Energy gain reduced to 6 energy from 8.
- Fill The Pot Now only draws 1 card (instead of 1 card per Sip).
- Bronze Boomerang Reworked to trigger at the end of the turn like Phasestone. New effect: "After you play this, shuffle it into your deck at the end of the turn."
- Chapter 1: 2 Wells
- Chapter 2: 2 Wells
- Chapter 3: 2 Wells
- Chapter 1: 1 Well
- Chapter 2: 1 Well
- Chapter 3: 3 Well
Conclusion:
As mentioned above, we are eager to know what you think. None of these changes are set in stone, which of course is one of the major reasons we are asking how you feel about them. Please leave your thoughts in this Steam post, or if you prefer - please join our official Discord for a live discussion. Thank you for your continued feedback.

Today we are releasing our 4th major update since the release of Roguebook in June of this year. This update contains some new cards, talents, optimizations, and the usual bug fixes. We thank you for all enjoying the game so far, and have some big news on what is to come next
New Cards
We announced the winner of our design contest at the end of last month, and are releasing the fully playable cards today. These cards become automatically available and require no additional unlocking. Congratulations, Alex!
New Talents
You may not have noticed, but Sharra and Aurora have been behind on talents compared to the rest of the heroes. With todays update, each hero will be brought to the same total of 12 possible talents each.
Sharra
Bravado Sharra gains 1 Power for each stack of Courage she has. Berserking At the end of each turn, gain 2 Block for each stack of Courage Sharra has. Threefold Rhythm The third card Sharra plays each turn gains 3 Power.
Aurora
Breeder The first time you summon Frogs each turn, summon 3 more. These talents will be available on all future runs.
Adjustments and Bug Fixes:
- Added further optimizations to game performance
- Added controller support for hero selection
- Chosen hero skins are now displayed for all characters in the hero selection panel
- Fixed a bug where voice lines were disabled on the first start up of the game
- Fixed several issues with displaying tooltips during battle
- Fixed issues involving Unstable Capacitor
- Characters should no longer randomly become completely white
- When disabled, flash gems are no longer completely greyed out
- Disintegrate now draws itself at the start of each battle, consistent with Binding Topaz behavior.
- Stopped Naddim from flying into the sky when the player has a Magic Carpet
- Fixed edge cases which allowed players to skip unlocking Seifer by using a Wind Gate
- Fixed several typos and localization issues
- Fixed some issues with the tutorial system
- Sharra now says the correct voice line when picking up her 3rd Faeria orb
Whats next?
This is the first update since release that does not contain a major new feature - and there is a reason for that. We have been actively working on a few big things that might interest you.
Daily Tournaments
In short, we will be releasing a system of daily tournaments for players to compete in. These events will contain special modifiers and have global rankings. We want to provide you another way to enjoy our game, if youre interested in this sort of thing. This feature is huge, but already in production and is coming your way. Stay tuned.
New Hero
The fifth hero for Roguebook is already in its internal testing phases. This is perhaps the #1 most requested feature for the game. Weve actually been working on them for some time, but were far enough along now to be confident to announce they will be ready early next year. This hero will be available in normal runs via DLC, but you will be able to use them in the Daily Tournament system with everyone else for free. Who is the hero? Someone you may not expect...
Console Release in February - 2022
Were happy to announce that our console versions will become available this February. Working on the console versions has taken an enormous amount of time, and its been going on in the background of every update we have ever released. However, were quite pleased with the progress. Apologies for the delay!
Conclusion
If you cant tell, we have a goal to please as many types of players as possible. Dont plan on getting the console version? No problem, we still have a major tournament feature coming for you. Dont like the idea of daily tournaments? No problem, we have another hero coming for you. Dont want a new hero? Well, uhh really? Sorry :( In all seriousness, we recognize todays major update is relatively small in comparison to the huge ones we have released previously. We just felt it was important to let you know why. Thank you for playing the game that we work very hard on, and good luck out there.

Grab your ink and make your way into the Roguebook this weekend as we join the Steam Tabletop Festival.
For those of you who've yet to discover the Roguebook, you can find 20% off the game and experience all of the updates we've released thus far, including Update 1.7, the Flash Gems patch that launched on Wednesday.
This includes the aforementioned Flash Gems, which are single-use gems acquired as loot that are usable only once but can turn the tide of a fight in your favor. This update also brings new enemies, new narratives, QoL updates, improvements, and more. You can find the full patch notes here.
[ 2021-10-21 16:11:11 CET ] [ Original post ]
Todays update contains a number of additions to Roguebook, as well as the usual bug fixing and optimizations.
While our last update focused more on tracking player data more thoroughly, this update is more content focused. We are happy to introduce: Flash Gems.
New Features and Content:
Flash Gems
Flash Gems can now be found in the game. These are very powerful gems that shatter after being played only once. They can be acquired as loot randomly from battles.
Flash Gems can be unlocked as an Embellishment toward the top of the Embellishment tree. If youre a veteran player, make sure to unlock the Embellishment before you begin your next run. You may carry up to 3 Flash gems at a time.
Battle Socketing
Of course, Flash Gems might not be very useful if youre unable to craft them into cards during battle. Therefore, we have introduced Battle Socketing.
You now have the ability to socket gems into cards during battle, whether they are Flash Gems or not. This ability is not linked to any new Embellishment, and will be available now in all battles. You may have noticed with this update that we have also decreased the total amount of inventory slots for gems to 6. Of those 6 slots, up to 3 may be Flash Gems. If you loot a gem when your pack is full, it will simply drop to the ground nearby for you to pick up later. This works for end of chapter bosses as well. (The gem simply follows you to the next Chapter, and lies at your feet)
New Enemies
We have added a new enemy encounter for each chapter.
- Chapter 1: Zephir Vulpine
- Chapter 2: Frogtosser
- Chapter 3: Unstable Forgeling
New Narratives
Tarum, the Forest World
Looking up, it as if a mountain is moving. Birds and more are stirred from massive branches, filling the air with all manner of woodland detritus. A voice booms forth as if the earth speaks, and it becomes clear this is no lifeless mound. Come, it resonates, The times are dark. Your bark is soft. I have plenty to spare, as you see. If the thing could smile, there was no way of knowing. Tarum will grant you your choice of defensive blessings.
Wind Gate
The wind picks up, and sand fills the air. A strange tower raises out of the desert here, banners flapping noisily in the gale. A high pitched tone resonates from the top of the structure, where it seems shaped to harness the flow of the wind in a very precise manner. There is an energy about it. The air feels charged like a battery. A caretaker speaks from its marbled steps. Grains of sand. Do you fly forward, or back? Wind Gates will allow you to skip to the next chapter, or visit another narrative.
Chrysalis
A strange green casing dangles from a nearby tree. A chrysalis perhaps, but one so large? Something pulses from within. As they watch, a moth lands on its skin. Slowly and silently, it disappears within. What danger will be birthed from such a womb? You may choose to destroy the Chrysalis, or carry it along with you at a cost. Maybe it will hatch into something good?
Flash Wind
A figure is seen in the desert, moving extremely fast. He stops briefly in front of the heroes, and introduces himself as a student of Khalim. Greetings, stone feet. Would you race? The Flash Wind encounter will add a special swapping card to your deck, or double your speed on the world map.
Quality of Life changes and improvements:
- Inks and consumables will now drop to the ground when your inventory is full, as well as gems.
- There are now card selection hotkeys
- You may now disable and reenable Embellishments at will, once purchased.
- Added an achievement for beating the new final boss Twin Chaos
Balancing
Our data has shown that the newest boss, Twin Chaos, is a bit too easy compared to the other bosses. Weve given him a slight boost in power to be more of a challenge relative to his counterparts. On another note, the addition of Flash Gems and Battle Socketing is a general upgrade for player power level across the board. We hope they give players a few more options in those tough battles where they need just a little boost to pull it off.
Bug fixes
- Fixed many miscellaneous crashes.
- New sound balancing + various sound fixes
- Autofocus should behave more intuitively when selecting a card from hand
- Multiple voice lines can no longer be played at the same time
- Adamant Blood now properly increases Seifer's life by 10
- 0 cost Defends should now properly swap
- Epilogue 15+ entries in run summary are now consistent
- Tooltips should no longer linger when choosing rewards in narratives
- Fixed a special case when playing Spirit Spice as your last card in hand
- The intro can no longer be skipped when launching the game for the first time
- Fixed gold auto pickup in the Greed is Good Epilogue
- Radiant Heart tooltips should no longer become stuck on screen
- Fixed an issue where you couldn't use a directional ink without inputting a direction on the controller
- Referenced card and tooltips should no longer remain after exiting compendium
- Fixed an issue where you could press Drop Run twice on a slower machine
- Fixed an issue where the Epilogue tutorial could be skipped
Conclusion

We've released a small update today that fixes a few of the major issues we've seen since the release of 1.6. Thank you for your continued reports/feedback. We don't normally like to make smaller balance changes between major updates, but the case of Magda's Scissors was a bit severe. You'll now need to search a little harder for this special tool.
- Epilogue page rewards should now be awarded in the correct amount
- Magda's Scissors have been moved to Epic rarity
- Fixed a crash that occurred in Russian language

Today we are releasing a major Roguebook update for PC, Mac, and Linux versions.
Before we go further, it is important to note that runs from previous versions will become incompatible with 1.6.
If you have a run in progress, you will be prompted the following when you log in:
From here, you may either drop your current run and begin anew in 1.6, or choose to downgrade your version and continue. Once you downgrade, however, you will need to re-update in order to continue playing.
Please find further detailed instructions in this separate news post:
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1076200/view/2979683242489856953
Without further ado, heres whats new:
New features
Controller support
Roguebook is now fully supported on controller. Here are most of the default bindings:
Legacy and Run Summaries
There will now be a comprehensive history logged of all your previous runs. You can find this in the "Progression" area of the main menu.
In addition, each completed run will now have its own summary page where you can view your journey in brief. This summary will be shown at the end of each run, and can be accessed again at any time in the Legacy menu.
Hero Progress Revamp
We have revamped the Hero Progress screen in the main menu. Where previously it only showed your progress to the next level up, it now shows:
- Your wins with each hero pair.
- Your total runs
- Highest Epilogue reached with each hero pair
- Your highest and current win streaks in various tiers of Epilogues.
Epilogue 15+ Mode
We have introduced a sandbox mode for those who have completed Epilogue 15. You may now enter Epilogue 15+ mode, which allows you to stack additional modifiers on top of the most difficult ones in the game.
While we have plans for more challenges in the future, for now we found this to be a pretty simple way to introduce a new mode of play for the time being. This feature is more intended to be something extra to enjoy, rather than become the highest level of play.
Epilogue Completion Tracking
Each Epilogue now tracks which heroes you have completed them with.
In the above screenshot, Sharra is the only hero left to complete this specific Epilogue modifier.
New Content
New Final boss:
We have introduced an additional final boss in the last chapter: Twin Chaos. This will bring the total number of potential final bosses to 3. Twin Chaos is a battle against two manifestations of the Roguebook: Pain and Wrath
Youll need to manage your attacks against both. Youll be unable to swap until you hit one of them, and must hit the other as much as possible to reduce its damage. Good luck.
New Treasures
Five new treasures have been added to the game. These treasures are globally available in all future runs.
New Narratives
Four new narrative events have been added to the game, including three that are hero-specific. This rounds out the hero-specific narratives to all four heroes. (Aurora had one previously)
- Sharra: Day of the Dragons
- Sorocco: Ogre Dance
- Seifer: Blood Song
- All heroes: Celeste, Crystal Dragon
New Animations
Weve added new hero animations to the following cards:
- Sharra: Gain Dagger
- Aurora: Gain Sip
- Sorocco: Gain Headbang
- Sorocco: Firebreath
- Sorocco: Flatten
- Sorocco: Hammertime
- Seifer: Disintegrate
- Seifer: Doom
Balancing
Overall, weve determined the increase in difficulty in the higher Epilogues from version 1.5 was a bit too much. Here is some data we have on what happened to the overall win rates across three sections of Epilogue groups. (Blue =1-5, Green = 6-10, Purple = 11-16)
You can see the dip on August 11th, when 1.5 was released. This is a bit more dramatic of an increase in difficulty than we intended, so we have toned it back a bit. The earlier Epilogues were unaffected, so we have not made many changes there. Here are the major balance changes that come with version 1.6:
- In the Exploration category: Four epilogue modifiers have been swapped in their order in an effort to smooth that particular category's progression of difficulty.
- The scaling of Chapter 1 and 2 Elites and Bosses has been decreased in the higher epilogue levels.
- Tiki Palanquin and Cap-10 in particular have much weaker scaling.
- Lantern faeries have less health at all Epilogues.
- Gem Mine Traps now have less health at all epilogues, and lowered Epilogue scaling.
Other specific changes and fixes
- The entire system for saving the progress of a run has changed. This involved a huge refactoring of the code and will be mostly unnoticeable to players, except for the above mentioned issues with continuing a run from the previous version.
- It is now possible to Use or Discard healing hearts while the loot bag is opened. This is useful when all 3 slots are full while on the loot bag UI.
- Naddim will no longer inappropriately turn his back to you. Was a bit rude.
- Camera position improvements on the main menu.
- The amount of particles on the sky of Chapter 2 has been reduced.
- Several performance improvements to background particles in general.
- The Gem Mine background texture has had some improvements.
Conclusion
Thank you for your continued feedback when playing Roguebook. We have more major updates planned, and are already in the process of working on the next. While this one may not have the content youre looking for, perhaps it will appear in the next. As always, feel free to leave us feedback here on Steam, or in our official Discord at discord.gg/Roguebook.

With todays update to version 1.6, it is important to note that runs from previous versions will become incompatible. This is due to the extensive upgrades we have made to tracking run history in general.
If you have a run in progress in version 1.5 (or earlier), you will be prompted the following when you log in:
From here, you may either drop your current run entirely and begin anew in 1.6, or choose to downgrade your version and continue.
To downgrade your version on Steam, you must do the following:
- Right click on Roguebook in your Steam Library
- Click on BETAS
- Select 1.5.8
- Roguebook will now downgrade itself to version 1.5.8 on Steam, and you can continue playing your old run as normal.
- To be sure Steam downloads the patch, restart Steam.
In order to update to the latest version on Steam, you must do the following:
- Right click on Roguebook in your Steam Library
- Click on BETAS
- Select None
- Roguebook will now update itself to the default version on Steam, and you can continue playing as normal.
We apologize for the awkwardness of this process, but it was important to us to not disregard everyones current run in this update without any choice. Again, this is only due to the focus of this update being on improving run history information and providing more data for the player to collect. We do not plan for every update to be so inconvenient in this way. Don't forget, you can always just choose to abandon your old run and skip all of the required version switching. We leave the decision up to you. Thank you, and as always feel free to ask us questions here, or on our official Discord at discord.gg/Roguebook.

BALANCING
The game has been changed to try and make it harder at high epilogues but more fair at all levels. Final bosses have been tweaked so they dont hard counter certain strategies as much. On the other hand the scaling from epilogues has been increased. In conjunction with this various cards/gems/talents/treasures have been changed to make it harder for the heroes to get completely out of control. Most notably, many gems that give energy to the heroes have been toned down or reworked so that the game does not have to be balanced around 8 energy per turn. On the other hand, despite the game being a little easier than we would like at higher epilogues, Sharra needs help as she has been consistently underperforming compared to the other heroes. This patch she gained small damage buffs to 15 cards in her kit to help her in her identity as the hero with the highest up front damage in the game.
Final Boss Changes
Avatar of Mist Mist no longer automatically destroys the players deck every few turns. Instead, he will dissolve cards from the players discard when he takes damage. In this way, players always get a chance to play any card before it is dissolved (Unless they fail to block) He will still dissolve cards when he lands an attack. However, he dissolves less per hit while attacking multiple times at lower damage values. This lets you get 'partial success' where you block half an attack and only have half as many cards destroyed. Avatar of Greed All the cards in deck now cost +1 permanently, but cards created afterwards will not be increased. (For example, adding Daggers to your hand will cost 0)

Hey everyone. Our patch this week focuses on addressing a wide array of bugs, as well as a few balance changes. These balance changes are still relatively small in scope in comparison to what we have planned. Reducing some of the more frustrating RNG is on our radar, as well as more adjustments to Seifer. You can expect more changes from us in this area.
FEATURES/QOL
- The progression file is now zipped and backed up if the current save file becomes corrupted
- Time of Legends alternate starting treasures are now Legendary.
- Some translations have been adapted.
BALANCING
Balance changes focus on three main areas:
- Reducing the variance in certain battles
- Giving Sharra a few more multi hit cards and some additional strength
- Toning down some of the more ridiculous combos in the game.
Elite:
Boss:
Note that these charts don't take into account things like Healing taken, so the numbers are skewed higher than the true result of the battle. Anyway, it's still a decent snapshot across the board and shows how the fights compare to one another. Heroes: Sharra in particular has been lagging behind the other heroes. It is intended that she is more fragile than the others, but she was not sufficiently explosive in her damage to make up for it. Some small changes were made to buff some of her common and rare cards and to give her more multi hits to get synergies rolling. We will continue monitoring the situation to see if she still needs more help afterwards. Roguebook has always been intended as a breakable game where people can dream up and play out insane combos. However, when your combo is socketing one gem into flex to deal infinite damage for 1 mana things have gone too far. This breaks the game in a way that snuffs out other elements of gameplay and is overly consistent, since the gem and card are always drawn at the same time. The bleed archetype, while not quite as bonkers was, too consistently out of control. Breaking the game is encouraged, but we want it to be less common and more varied in how it comes about. Other than that, there are some scattered changes made to improve how certain cards and treasures play as a separate issue from their power level. An example is Seifers Cloak now working while you are at exactly half life, so that if a player reads it incorrectly it always breakpoints in the players favour. With all this said, balance is still a work in progress! In the future we are still looking at making sure Sharra is as powerful as she deserves, and if Seifer does too much of everything without clear weaknesses. We also continue to monitor how much variance there is in the world map and in certain battles, along with the overall difficulty level of the game and how it changes with different epilogues. Balance changes:
- Fugu behaviour has been tweaked so they are less syncronised, leading to less brutal turns. Their scaling has also been reduced.
- Rapala is now less punishing when you cannot swap.
- Added a count down to Rebel Slinger sleep turns, and increased it by 1 in certain battles.
- Stop defender of the homeland powering up for the first few turns.
- Duel now hits twice for 5 instead of once for 12
- Shadow strike now hits twice for 2 damage instead of once for 6
- Red Diamond is now properly no longer considered an attack. This removes the Red Diamond + Flex/Shock and Awe infinite, for example.
- Blade Twist now has dissolve
- Blood crystal: Inflict bleed equal to half damage dealt, was equal to full damage dealt
- Mirror Moonstone rarity increased to Epic from Rare
- Cap-10's defense is now scaling properly in the Legendary Bosses Epilogue.
- The chance of Apex Predator spawning in a given run was incorrectly set too high.
- Drain Strength now exhausts on both sides instead of only when not enraged
- Shock and Awe now has charge
- Grim Syphon now dissolves if played with rage mode
- Fodder is now aggressive and has 3 spirit instead of 4
- Seifer's Cloak now gives you the power buff while at half life, instead of below half life. (Edit, this means at half life AND below, instead of just below)
FIXES
- Using the Shaman quickly after playing a card no longer results in the ability being wasted
- Majinata will no longer turn invisible when a possessed enemy is killed with a stackable card.
- Dynamic numbers on gem texts should now display correctly.
- Dynamic numbers in certain status tooltips now display correctly.
- The game no longer crashes if a save file of the run doesn't exist.

- Summoning Crystal can now only be socketed on allies.
- Tiki Totem now properly only gives power to its equipped hero

- Using Chosen One on a Flame Stoker will no longer break its spirit
- Tadpals should now always properly cost 0 instead of being 1 cheaper.
- Toadsuit now properly tagged as a Block card for gem insertion.
- Fixed a crash when attacking in some rare circumstances.
- You now no longer need to kill Rakoan Shieldmates in the Warmachine fight.

- Golden Faeries now always lock the brushes and inks if the current epilogue doesn't prevent it

- Fixed Dynamic Number for Aurora's Splash card
- Fixed random crashes when trying to load Epilogues

BALANCING
With our first post-release balance patch, we had a few important goals. We are a bit limited in what we can achieve here to mere number tweaks, but will be able to change more in future patches. Firstly, we wanted to reduce the power of enemies that were outliers in how dangerous they were, or could lead to unfun play patterns. One big offender here is the Avatar of Mists. In the short term, we have lowered its numbers and nerfed the major Dissolve debuff to occur later in the fight for a lesser effect. In the long term, we are looking at a larger rework for this boss. Expect some more interesting changes in the future when we're able to apply some deeper adjustments. Heroes in general:
Here you can see our launch data on the average winrates across each hero pair. Keep in mind, this is a global average and doesn't account for player skill or any other variable. It shows us a few things, among which is that Seifer is by-and-large the most successful run companion, and Sharra and Aurora are the least successful pairing. The following adjustments are made with this in mind, but are not expected to make each bar perfectly even. We'll be able to observe the effects of today's changes and make evaluations from there. Sharra and Seifer: We feel that our starting hero is lagging slightly behind with her ability to deal enough damage, despite her starting treasure being wholly focused on enabling that. In future patches we are looking to make a few more of her cards multi-hit attacks, but for now we've applied a couple smaller changes. Seifer, on the other hand, has been a bit too efficient at doing everything. He's has had a few of his numbers brought down slightly. Gems and Crazy Combos: Certain cards or gems that were going a bit too crazy too easily have been toned down a bit. Roguebook is very much a game about breaking things in half with insane combos or clever set ups, but the magic can be broken when it is too easy to do this using the same tools each time. With all of that in mind, here are today's balance adjustments:
Enemies
Chapter 1
- Tiki fight: Tikis now have turns where they do not attack. The Tiki Elite now does less damage
Chapter 2
- Rakoan Berserker: His triple attack has been removed to make him less punishing against heavy card plays.
- Rapala: Song of confusion reduced to 2 turns down from 3
- BOSS: Cap-10: Status effect uptime reduced, so it is rarer to end up with both heroes vulnerable or have a permanent aura of weakness.
Chapter 3
- Bomb Bot: Is now less binary on if you can kill the bomb bot or not
- Avatar of Mists: Damage has been lowered in general so they are easier to block. The debuff that directly dissolves the players deck now appears later in the fight to allow the player more opportunities draw key cards. Legendary avatar of mists now triggers off 8 cards played instead of 6 cards played.

Since the release of Roguebook on June 17th, we've received a lot of valuable feedback. The reception has been a mixture of good and bad, but there is a severe issue that we feel we need to address immediately: our launch DLC. Weve made a mistake and wed like to apologize for it.
When we created the Digital Deluxe Edition of Roguebook, our goal was to create an option for those who wanted to show a little additional support for the game. We focused on cosmetics, but we were concerned this wouldn't be enough. So we ended up creating some exclusive content as a bonus for players who wanted to support the game and get more from it. In hindsight, this was a mistake and one we'd like to fix.
We have integrated the Apex Predator Pack into the base game, for free.
Having done this, we have worked with Steam to lift the restrictions on requesting a refund. Anyone, regardless of playtime will be able to request a refund on the Apex Predator Pack, regardless of whether you purchased it as a bundle or separately.
One exception is the Deluxe pre-order customers, who will need to ask for a complete refund of the game and then purchase the game again at the new price. If you wish to keep your progression, make sure to copy your save data located here:
Once again, we'd like to apologize to our community. We worked very hard on Roguebook, and want to be sure we're treating our supporters right. Please continue to hold us accountable and send us feedback. You can count on us to take action. We would have prefered to have made all of the right decisions before release, but we will settle for learning from this mistake.
Version 1.4 will arrive this week, introducing a very long list of improvements of all sorts. Our will is to keep forging the game as time goes by, this is about listening to our players not only to address issues, but also by creating additional free content that will help the game shine. This is just the beginning. Thank you for your understanding, and see you on the forums.

We are excited to announce that we are partnering with our friends at Nacon in releasing Roguebook! Weve been anxious to share this for a while now, but as you can probably guess these sorts of things take time to work out. Well, it's finally worked out. If you havent already seen it, make sure to watch the announcement today on Nacon Connect. Thank you, Nacon!
What does this mean for Roguebook?
Nothing changes! While we will receive help with publishing the game, Roguebook will be developed exactly as we described on the Kickstarter. Our work continues as usual. Its important to us that we maintain creative freedom in whatever project we work on, and we know thats what you would expect from us. Nacon has proven to be perfect for us in these regards, and were happy to be working with them. Well have a lot more news to share about Roguebook soon, but in general here are some quick updates:
- The final version of the game is close to the first draft of its playable state
- Work on the prototype has ceased, and there have been quite a few interesting updates we havent shared yet
- Our animations are looking really cool.

Today we are deploying our next major update for the Alpha version of Roguebook. We are nearing the end of our major updates for the Alpha client as we prepare the real beta with all the fancy bells and whistles. Weve teased what weve been working on for this update earlier this year, but a few things have changed since then. This is also why its arrived a little later than planned. Sorry about that. This isnt just a content update, but a major overhaul of some core designs in the game. Weve done a good bit of internal testing and tweaking to the point where we think we are ready for the public to test it. Thats you! Without further ado, here are the patch notes for the Major March update:
Talents
Weve completely overhauled the bonuses you get when increasing the amount of cards in your deck. The idea behind talents, and deck rewards in general, are to incentivize the gathering of cards and creation of large decks, rather than min/maxing your deck into a very specific build that performs only one function. How our talents work: There are six tiers of Talents, each unlocked at a certain amount of cards in your deck. Talent Tier Thresholds: 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 cards Each talent tier gives you the choice between 3 talents: (1 neutral talent, 1 for hero A, 1 for hero B). Available talents are selected randomly from a pool. This is so that whenever you start a new run, you cant stick to a preferred build which would dictate your drafting experience too much.
Allies
Introducing Allies! Or to put it in a less exciting way, equipment cards have been rethemed as allies. The origin of this change was thematic. We felt that relics and equipment were too conceptually close. We also wanted to take advantage of the broad range of creatures in Faeria lore that could be called on as interesting cards in Roguebook. Mechanically, the big difference is that all allies have a certain amount of strength. This number can influence a wide range of things, from the strength of their abilities to how much damage they do when attacking. Some allies attack, some allies do not. Some allies are Goki.
World Maps
With this update, we are introducing six new maps to Roguebook, two for each chapter. The old maps are gone. The big reason for this is that we have totally changed the basic design concept behind map exploration. Previously, we had treated normal battles as rewards that you need to seek and draft a card afterward. This lead to problems where some players would routinely skip battles because they felt too dangerous, even though we intended them to be both rewarding and fun. Instead, we have decided to make normal battles mandatory by placing them in choke points, and removing the card draft award from them. They will still give you gold for defeating them, but really what you are looking for are the rewards hidden behind those fights. Card drafts themselves are now additional map events you can find on their own.
Roads
Roads have been added to the game. For now, these are roughly implemented as brown tiles to move across - but will look much fancier in the future. Roads do what you think they do - they allow you to move faster than normal. Generally, the best rewards will be off the beaten path and away from the roads.
Hero Resurrection
We have updated the hero revival system to avoid issues where losing a character could be seen as a positive thing to happen to you. This is what happens now: When a hero dies, all of its cards in your deck are transformed into Revive Songs. You must play 3 of these cards in order to resurrect the hero, and transform their cards back to normal. Wound cards are also added to your deck as before, but we have increased the amount to 3 after some testing. All Wounds are removed from your deck after defeating a chapter boss.
Hero Swapping
Yes, we are changing the Hero Swapping system again! This has proved to be one of the most difficult design challenges to overcome. We thought we had it solved with whenever you play a card of a hero, that hero moves to the front. We were wrong - it still felt off. Weve done a lot of internal testing on this front. First, we tried disabling the auto-swapping and made a new keyword called Heroic, which moves the hero to the front if it isnt already. Basically, we keyworded the functionality from before. It felt better, but after testing we didnt like that its easy to forget that card X has Heroic or not. It was leading to fatal and frustrating mistakes. After a few weeks of playing with Heroic we then came to this idea: why not just say that all Block cards have Heroic? So, thats what we did. Here is how swapping works now: Whenever a hero plays a Block card, that hero moves to the front if it isnt already. Thats it. There are also some new keywords to compliment this new system.
- Ranged: Costs 1 less if this hero is in the back
- Melee: Costs 1 less if this hero is in the front
- Charge: Move this hero to the front
Misc Changes
Loads and loads of new cards, relics, and gems. We could list them all out, but so much has changed it is probably better you just play and see for yourself. An important note is that, for this patch, we have limited hero selection to Sharra and Sorocco specifically. We know this isnt as fun, but we decided it is much better right now to focus entirely on these heroes and expand their card base to a point that feels more like the final game. Well try to get Aurora and Seifer back in asap. Sorry for the wait! --------- Thats about it! There are probably more changes we havent mentioned here, but so much has been adjusted its difficult for us to remember it all. We have been testing with Roads so long, for example, that we almost forgot they were new. Anyway, enjoy the new build! Please let us know how it feels here, or in our official Discord channel. Its available now on Steam. - Team Abrakam

Enter an ever-changing world full of legendary encounters and stories. Craft your cards, assemble the perfect deck and defeat the Roguebook itself... or die trying.
Roguebook is the second major game from Abrakam, the creators of the strategy card game Faeria, which launched in 2017 and has the best rating for a CCG on Steam with 86% positive Steam reviews and 1 million downloads.
Every time you play, the Roguebook generates a new world for you to explore. Said to contain all available knowledge in the world, rumors are whispered that those who dare to read the Roguebook can gain omniscience and attain near god-like status.
The pages within are filled with dangerous creatures, ancient legends, and exotic lands from the world of Faeria. The Roguebook itself is a mischievous entity with its own goals and motivations. It is able to rewrite itself entirely, always with the intent of tricking and fooling those who read it - trapping them for eternity.
Will you be able to outsmart the Roguebook?
Your adventure begins by selecting two heroes that will explore the Roguebook together. Each hero has their own special abilities and strategies. Combine different heroes for a completely different play experience.
The combat in Roguebook focuses on dual-hero gameplay. Each hero supports the other in different ways, from unleashing explosive combos to protecting the other from damage.
Core Battle System
- During battles, the hero in front is the one normally exposed to damage.
- Whenever you a play a card belonging to the hero in the back row, your heroes will swap positions.
- If any hero reaches 0 health, they become inactive for the rest of the battle and have their cards removed from the deck. After the battle, that hero is healed back to a low amount of health and two Wound cards are added to your deck. A Wound is a card that's not playable and will only act as a handicap. It is said that finding a helpful wandering monk can help you remedy these wounds...
- If both of your heroes reach 0 health in the same battle, your current run ends and the Roguebook wins.
Each card in Roguebook has a chance to have a certain amount of sockets. In these sockets, you can place a wide variety of gems to upgrade them in interesting ways. Gems also have assigned rarities. The rarest of them can completely transform your deck.
It's up to you to find the best way to use your gems with your deck, allowing for an infinite amount of customization. This vastly increases the ways you can break the game... exactly what we love about roguelikes!
Each time you enter the Roguebook, it will generate a unique world for you to explore. Gems, cards, relics, encounters, and all sorts of legendary stories are randomized to guarantee a fresh experience with each new reading.
You can move around the map freely and decide which area or encounter you'd like to visit. Fog of war will prevent you from seeing the whole map, so some exploring will always be necessary. It's up to you decide which areas you'll discover, but be quick - for the Roguebook is always nipping at your heels as you go. Between fighting and looting, you will sometimes meet friendly NPCs: Fugoro the Shopkeeper, the Wandering Monk, the Court Jester, the Jeweler, etc.
The Roguebook contains the entire history of Faeria within its pages, including every legend and story that has ever been told around the campfire. Your heroes will encounter all manner of exotic beasts, endure powerful magic, and solve challenging problems.
We loved Gamebooks and would love to explore their narrative aspects in Roguebook. Each hero will have their own unique traits, like Wisdom, Cunning or Strength, giving them new possibilities to solve situations they encounter. Also, we want to have chain of events. For instance, the second or third time you meet the Apex Predator, the story will change depending on the results of previous encounters.
The game is strongly connected to the already established Faeria universe.
The Roguebook began as an esteemed book of lore from the world of Faeria. After the events in the Chronicles of Gagana take place, it was lost and forgotten inside the depths of a faeria well. There it lingered for over a decade.
The contact with this endless source of faeria transformed the book in a terrible way. Over time, it slowly develops its own free will - and reaveled its mischievous personality. By this time, characters like Sharra and Seifer have grown into heroes and villains of legend in their own regard. Their thirst for finding new challenges will draw them to this powerful artifact, now known as the Roguebook.
