4K 3840x2160 > https://ibb.co/yX6kQtY

4K 3840x2160 > https://ibb.co/VW3TwML

Inside our studio we are already discussing ideas for a sequel to the game, what do you think of the Japanese robot design?

It just so happens that our anniversary fell on the start date of the Dinosaurs vs. Robots festival and the game is -85% off_

There will be no updates! We are very busy with other projects and understand well enough that any further ideas will be better used for the second part_

And of course, we prepared in honor of the anniversary stream with soundtracks from the game, we think it was cool_

The awakening of Evil!

+ 86% off Mainframe Defenders / Dev. diary #3 Lords of Ravage!

Hi! We've finally got some good news. We've got the funding, and we're ready to continue the work. It's been a while since the last dev diary, and despite putting a stop on production of assets, we've had time to refine the game mechanics. But the long wait is now over, and we can finally start working in full force.

Our current priorities are:

- Assets for the game. Pretty self-explanatory. We've got more than half of the game done already, but in some areas we're still lagging behind.

- UI rework. In our many internal tests, the UI and UX were consistently cited as the main issues of the game.

- In-game map. This is a significant part of the game, so the aesthetics of the map and event window are important. We've got some promising prototypes to put a fun visual twist on a tried-and-true node travel and event system.

With all of the insane reworks we've done, I think the gameplay core is already solid enough. But as you work on the game, you can lose a bit of grasp and need a fresh perspective from outside, especially from new players. We can't wait to get some feedback from you guys!

Expect much more information from us. Next time, expect a development diary on the juicy new event system. Meanwhile, here is a new environment for the game: Swamps.

[previewyoutube=zIzMV6lKBlI;full][/previewyoutube]
You may have noticed from the cover that we're participating in Turn-based carnival 2023 from the 14th through the 21st, thanks to the folks at Acram Digital.

Huge thanks to Lord Berold for shaking down Mainframe Defenders for an 86% discount.))) The discount will be extended to the Steam Autumn Sale, which will last until November 28.

It've been 3 years!

Hi all, long time no write, already forgot your turn-based green evenings with a good synthwave soundtrack? You can go back and play again, or better yet, a couple more times. Unfortunately there are no updates since we're completely consumed by Lords of Ravage and can't get distracted (we're looking for a publisher). In the meantime, you can buy the game for the lowest price possible with a great 24/7 streaming soundtrack (we can't sell the soundtrack due to legal reasons).

Have a great spring sale everyone! See you in our discord server!

Summer sale and small FIX + Portugus do Brasil!

Hello everyone!

This is rather small update for Mainframe Defenders. We've finally fixed Spanish localization as well as adding Portugus do Brasil support for the game.

We've also fixed some of the bugs with the game, like being able to move and use items during the enemy turn.

And at the summer sale, the game can be bought at an 85% discount.

If anyone didn't know, already this year! We are launching our second tactical and card game - Lords of Ravage

Second anniversary of Mainframe Defenders!
Hello everyone!
So, the second anniversary of Mainframe Defenders has arrived. A lot of time has passed. It seems only recently that we launched the Meltdown update, where we completely rebalanced the game and fixed a lot of issues, but there is even more stuff to come!
Mainframe Defenders: Meltdown
After numerous complaints about the Spanish localization, we have redone it from scratch (ETA: March 2022) and are waiting for feedback on the quality. We are also adding Steam cards, icons, and emotes to the community. Now you can see what the robots from the game look like in a 3D sketch style and much more. If you like it, we will try to continue working in this direction.

We are not deviating from the tradition that we maintain every anniversary, and we are launching the biggest discount yet (80%). The promotion starts on March 7th and lasts until March 21st at a special price of $2/1.44/1.64/0.2/2.1/7.4/CDN$2.3/A$2.5/NT$37.2/zl7.2. Next start to april!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1184810/Mainframe_Defenders/

NEW PROJECTS! We haven't been sitting idle, and now we are ready to announce a new project! We are happy to introduce you to a new game waiting to be wishlisted:
Lords of Ravage
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1830320/Lords_of_Ravage/

We have not moved away from the turn-based strategy genre, but on the contrary, we decided to release something turn-based, beautiful, and unique. Our new game is a 2.5D strategy in a dark fantasy setting with rich lighting. Unlike the visually simplistic Mainframe Defenders, the fights here are much more spectacular. At the same time, we are still focused on gameplay. A selling feature is that you are the final boss and the leader of a shadowy organization! Get ready to smash the heroes and satisfy your lust for power!

1.3 Anniversary content update

New content:
- New player units: "Synapse A" and "Synapse B".
- New strategic tile: "Upgrade Chest".
- You can now rename your units and assign individual colors to them.

Upgrade System for enemies
Every enemy has a chance to have an additional item. That chance increases as you progress through the tier, and scales with the difficulty. So far the upgrades are:
1. "1 Armor breach" on the attack.
2. +10/15/20 armor (depending on tier)
3. +30/40/50 hull (depending on tier)
4. -50% status effects damage.
5. 20 damage cap from any source.
6. 10/15/20 heat applied per shot.
The upgraded enemies are marked with the + icon.

Reworked content:
- Status effects mechanics changed: some status effects can now have a set amount of turns before expiration. This solves the issue of player mechs having 10 stacks of "Propulsion Damaged" and limping along for the rest of the mission. The duration is refreshed upon adding new stacks though!
- "Propulsion Damaged" and Interference now only lasts 3 turns, regardless of stack amount.
- "Corrupted Data rework". It lasts for 2 turns now, but prevents any healing and can't be cleansed. This gives this status effect a unique place in the game, adding a new threat type.
- "Damaged Sensor rework". Lasts 2 turns and limits the max damage from weapons.
- "Armor Breach" now lasts 3 turns. Negative armor now increases incoming attack damage. "Armor Breach" values reduced for all items.
- Corrosion now ignores armor.
- New status effect: "Unstable Current". Lasts 2 turns and reduces weapon damage by 5 per stack. It is introduced as a proper active counter to burst fire builds.
- New status effect: "Lingering Heat". Applies 1 heat per stack, but can't be cleaned at all.
- Player units utilize Improved Interference that cuts damage by 50%.
- "Dominator Armor". This armor sets a limit on how much damage the owner can take in a single instance. This counters single crit shot builds and mass corrosion, but leaves the unit vulnerable to other builds.
- "Enemy Nullifiers" are reworked into Isolated Internals. Isolated Internals item cuts 50% of any status effects damage. This should be enough to discourage players from focusing on the wrong target, yet will allow finishing a wounded Sentinel with status effects.
- "Armor Penetration" removed from the game.
- Armor values reduced.

Item Balance
- Immobilize items nerfed severely to no longer be able to lock enemies in place indefinitely. Still should be a good 'panic button'.
- Broadsword has Immobilize and does not have a huge CD. It is prone to overheat though.
- "Javelin" and "Brazier" have a new ability: bonus damage depending on your current heat.
- "Laser Cannon", "Horus", and "Rapier" have a new ability: stacking damage bonus, similar to the one "Acarids" have. Each time they are fired, they gain a bit of damage up to a maximum.
- "Crucible" now applies part of your current heat on the attack.
- "Abolisher" now deals insane amounts of damage, but has a huge CD and applies heat just by having it equipped.
- "Improved Sensor" now provides an additional bonus during enemy turns. This should buff return fire builds.
- "Welding Kit" now heals slightly less, but also reduces heat by 15.
- "Cooling Kit" now reduces heat by 30.
- "Rend cannon" is now also increasing damage whenever a status effect damages an enemy.
- "Acid Suppressor" now apply both, Corruption and Internal Damage.
- "Internal Damage" damage reduced to 15%.

Player Units
- Couple of talents reshuffle. "Mechanic" + "Oppressor" Internal Damage combo is gone.
- All Immobilize talents are replaced with other options.
- All Armor "Penetration" talents are replaced with other options.

Enemies:
- "Pretorians" now have "Dominator" Armor and got the T2 variant.
- "Armored Spiders" renamed to "Heavy Spiders". They have Isolated Internals to make them tankier against status effects.
- "Bulwarks" and "Suppressors" have static armor.
- "Suppressors" now apply "Armor Breach" instead of Interference
- "Orions" now apply "Lingering Heat" on the attack. They've got more armor, and apply heat to the attackers.
- "Sentinels" apply "Unstable Current" and "Damaged Sensors" on the attack.
- "Devastators" increase main gun damage by 1 each turn. Each time they are attacked they apply "Unstable Current". Any damage dealt to them is capped at 40. Featuring a new T3 model as well.
- "Overlord" applies Interference on attacks and has status effects damage reduction.
- "Assailant" has 50% status effect damage reduction.
- "Attack", "health", "max heat", and armor values tweaked for a lot of enemies. Lower difficulty levels should be more forgiving now.
- "Repairman" and "Operators" can now either move or heal, but not both. "Repair Kit" now has CD 2.

Oher changes
- Very Easy difficulty made easier.
- UI shows the number of turns left for status effects.

By the way, help us to fill the wiki: https://mainframe-defenders.fandom.com/wiki/Mainframe_Defenders_Wiki

Anniversary Update: Other improvments.

Anniversary Update: Other improvements.

Hello everyone, It's been a while since the last dev diary. The Anniversary Update is almost done, and today I would like to tell you about some of the miscellaneous changes it will bring.

Some of the notable changes include:
- You can now rename your units and assign individual colors to them.
- New player mech: Synapse. Available right from the beginning. This little guy more or less a walking squad upgrade.
- Temporary upgrade chests. New strategic tile. You can upgrade your units with extra move range or status effects cleanse until the end of the mission.
- Immobilize items nerfed severely to no longer be able to lock enemies in place indefinitely. Still should be a very good 'panic button'.
- Broadsword has Immobilize and does not have a huge CD. It is prone to overheat though. Maybe a bit OP, but we'll see how that will turn out =)
- Javelin and Brazier have a new ability: bonus damage depending on your current heat.
- Laser Cannon, Horus, and Rapier have a new ability: stacking damage bonus. Each time they are fired, they gain a bit of damage up to a maximum.
- Crucible now applies part of your current heat on the attack.
- Abolisher now deals insane amounts of damage, but has a huge CD and applies heat just by having it equipped.
- Improved Sensor now provides an additional bonus during enemy turns. This should buff return fire builds.
- Couple of talents reshuffle. Mechanic + Oppressor Internal Damage combo is gone.

The update is basically done, now it is time for the translations, balancing, and bug testing. As soon as this stuff is done, I'll push the update.

Anniversary Update: The enemy upgrade system.

Hello and welcome to another dev diary for the Mainframe Defenders anniversary update. If you've played Mainframe Defenders you probably know that it suffers from the "inverse difficulty curve" syndrome. This basically means that the first missions will be the most difficult ones, and then you'll breeze past the rest of T1. Then, at the beginning of T2 the difficulty spikes again, probably ruining your run. This is what a new upgrade system is designed to elevate.

Basically, every enemy has a chance to have an additional item. That chance increases as you progress through the tier, and scales with the difficulty. So far the upgrades are:
1. +50% bonus damage.
2. +10/15/20 armor (depending on tier)
3. +30/40/50 hull (depending on tier)
4. -50% status effects damage.
5. 50 damage cap from any source.
6. 10/15/20 heat applied per shot.

This will also help to boost the difficulty for the final mission, where you can expect 100% of units to have upgrades on Hard difficulty.

Since those upgrades act very similar to the Enhancer enemy, the latter was removed from the game. The upgrade system recognizes the items an enemy already has and avoids stacking items. For example, if the enemy already has -50% status effects damage, the upgrade system will exclude -50% status effects damage from the potential upgrade items pool for this unit.

I've also added the icon to enemy units to indicate that they've received an upgrade and to draw players' attention. And the last thing - the upgrade system is entirely optional. You can turn it off for your run if the challenge is too high.

Anniversary Update: Unit and status effect reworks.

Hello, this is ShiftyCode. It is time for the next dev diary for the anniversary 1.3 update. Even though the player builds are at the heart of the game, those builds would be pointless without some fun enemies. And the enemies can be a bit lacking if you've mastered the game. Some enemies did not create enough threat, even under the right circumstances. There are also some rather pointless enemies that have to be reworked, replaced, or removed. For example, spiders are pretty pointless. They barely pose a threat and die to everything.
But the main reason for those changes is to partially address abuse builds. Every enemy can still be countered, but your squad needs to be well-balanced in the types of damage it provides =)
So there is a list of changes so far:

Fundamental changes:
Status effects:
- Status effects mechanics changed: some status effects can now have a set amount of turns before expiration. This solves the issue of player mechs having 10 stacks of "Propulsion Damaged" and limping along for the rest of the mission. The duration is refreshed upon adding new stacks though!
- Propulsion Damaged and Interference now only lasts 3 turns, regardless of stack amount.
- Corrupted Data rework. It lasts for 2 turns now, but prevents any healing and can't be cleansed. This gives this status effect a unique place in the game, adding a new threat type.
- Damaged Sensor rework. Lasts 2 turns and limits the max damage from weapons. Crit builds, beware =D!
- New status effect: Unstable Current. Lasts 2 turns and reduces weapon damage by 5 per stack. It is introduced as a proper active counter to burst fire builds.
- New status effect: Lingering Heat. Applies a minor amount of heat (per stack, maybe?), but can't be cleaned at all. Still working on the numbers for this one =D
- Player units utilize Improved Interference that cuts damage by 50%.

Enemies:
- Dominator Armor. This armor sets a limit on how much damage the owner can take in a single instance. This counters single crit shot builds and mass corrosion, but leaves the unit vulnerable to other builds.
- Nullifiers, be gone! There is no complete status effect immunity for enemies, only partial. New Isolated Internals item cuts 50% of any status effects damage. This should be enough to discourage players from focusing the wrong target, yet will allow finishing a wounded Sentinel with status effects.
- Pretorians now have the aforementioned Dominator Armor and got the T2 variant.
- Armored Spiders and Suppressors have Isolated Internals to make them tankier against status effects.
- Adaptive armor (used by Bulwarks and Suppressors) now applies Unstable Current to the attackers, countering burst fire more effectively than before.
- Suppressors lost the ability to apply Interference.
- Orions now apply Unstable Current and Lingering Heat on the attack. They've got more armor, and apply heat to the attackers.
- Devastators have fancy Dominator Armor and increase main gun damage by 1 each turn. Featuring a new T3 model as well.
- Overlord applies Interference on attacks and has status effects damage reduction.
- Operators lost armor.
- Assailant has 50% status effect damage reduction.
- Spiders, enhancers, Hive and Sharpshooter removed, for now. At least until I can rework them.

This is not a complete list of changes. I am currently testing the game extensively in order to make sure those changes will make the game more fun =)
Next time, I will talk about a fancy new system that will replace Enhancers.

Thanks for your attention and see you next time!

What is next for the Mainframe Defenders? Anniversary Update!

Hello, this is ShiftyCode, and today I would like to talk a bit about the future updates for the game. Thanks to your feedback I was able to better understand some of the issues the game has. Which was great, because when you playtest your game for hundreds of hours, it can become quite difficult to even remember why your game is fun in the first place =D

So, I've decided to bundle all ideas that I have for one big update. Let me share some of the things the update going to include:
- Balance update. Some builds are still quite OP and need to be nerfed and playtested more thoroughly this time. Immobilize builds, Internal Damage, and certain heat builds, in particular, going to be targeted.
- Item reworks. New content without bloating the game any further! Items that don't quite have a place in the game gonna get reworked/buffed. For example (but not limited to), Javelin, Heat Sinks, and Broadsword are all going to be more viable and interesting options. Broadsword for example now going to be one of few items that still can Immobilize enemies.
- QOL. I've received several requests to rename and color units. You guys obviously care, so why not =)?
- Enemies reworks. Scorpions are no longer invulnerable to status effects! But they do cut 50% of status effect damage. Armored Spiders that lacked tankiness now also cut 25% of status effect damage. Even though you've never brought that up, I can almost feel the distaste for Nullifiers on enemies =D Enhancers can now also add upgrades with this function to random enemies.
- New enemies. Or at least one. T3 always felt that it could use some new enemies. I don't want to add more enemies for the sake of adding fore enemies, but I've come up with an interesting mechanic for it. If I could come up with more enemies - I will gladly add more =)

This is not a complete list, but it gives an idea of what to expect from the update. The ETA for the update is February 2021.

Thanks to everyone for your support! I'll try to keep rolling the updates as long as there is interest in the game. Speaking of which, if you guys could namedrop the game in the discussions or recommend it to your favorite streamers who might enjoy it - this could help to keep up the interest =)

Mainframe Defenders: 1.2 content update.

Hi everyone, it is ShiftyCode! It's been a while since the last content update for Mainframe Defenders and it is time to fix that =) I've wanted to thank you all for your support, so I am adding some new type of items to the game: Squad Upgrades. Those are regular items obtained the normal way that cannot be equipped by units. The effects range from simple stats buff, like armor bonus for the entire squad to much more involved stuff like adding heat to enemies per each status effect they have. There is a total of 14 squad upgrades, but you can only equip 4 at a time.

You'll also be able to unlock a new support mech: Shiva. This guy comes pre-equipped with some new support-themed items (there is 5 new in total). With these, you'll be able to pump bonus damage or crit chance to any unit right in the middle of combat.
There is some other content that will be revealed a bit later, so stay tuned!
The 1.2 update will be released sometime in early November. Hope you'll have fun and thanks for the support!

Hungarian localization for Mainframe Defenders!

Hi everyone!
I've always wanted to add more localizations to the game, but I've always been limited by the resources I've had. But thanks to Sunsetjoy, I am glad to announce that Hungarian localization is available for Mainframe Defenders.
If you also want to offer help to translate the game to your language - feel free to contact me =)

Mainframe Defenders Meltdown Update released!

MELTDOWN UPDATE

This big update is designed to rework those aspects of the game that were not working, improve balance, add new content, and make the UI more convenient.

New content:
- New mission types: Activate The Defense, Matter Raid, and Destroy Maintenance Station.
- Tier 3 with new opponents: Operator, Assailant, Pest, Hellkite, and Forge.
- New player units: Viper B and Vulcan B.
- New mechanics: Return Fire. Some weapons have the ability to perform return fire a limited number of times per turn. This is no different from a regular shot, but a weapon cannot return fire if the enemy is outside the firing range. The return fire does not require AP but adds heat. Several weapons with this ability do stack.
- A new level of difficulty: "Very easy." At this level of difficulty, the players units get a 20 hull bonus.
- 17 new items, including a rare version of existing items.
- Added 14 Steam achievements.
- Added support for Steam cloud saves.

Reworked content:
- The following missions have been reworked: Download Data and Destroy the Infected Node.
- Internal Damage effect now deals 25% of max health as damage. Previously, it did not differ much from the Corrosion effect. This gives Internal Damage effect its own flavor.
- Allied AI improved. Now, allies are less likely to block narrow passages and try not to attack targets that will be dead on the next turn due to status effects.
- Player unit upgrades slightly reworked.
- Arawn B and Oppressor B have other starting items.
- Corridors in all missions now have more space.
- Some items such as MER-12 and the Moritz Gun were reworked to use new mechanics.
- Opponents applying Corrosion effects now apply Corruption instead (Each effect deals 1 damage per unit of this effect, ignoring armor). This new status effect is easier to deal with, as it loses stacks each turn.
- All Prop. Damaged effects applied by the player units have been replaced by Immobility effects. This is a new status effect that is a more useful replacement for Porp. Damaged, making opponents exposed to attacks. Opponents are still using old Prop. Damaged effects.
- Overlord rework. Status effects are now his main weakness because he can no longer get rid of them on his own. Instead, he learned to shoot back up to 2 times per turn, which makes him dangerous for teams that depend too much on direct damage and have poor positioning.

Item Balance:
- The T1 store cannot have rare items. Instead, rare items are guaranteed in the T3 store.
- T1 missions cannot have rare items as rewards. Instead, rare items are guaranteed as rewards in the T3 missions.
- Item unlocks require fewer research points.

Opponent Balance:
- Enhancers can no longer add more than one item and cannot add a Nullifier.
- When the opponent squad wakes up prematurely, the wake-up counter is reset.

Bug fixes/other improvements:
- You can see how many improvements the unit has in the squad management menu and unit info panel during battle.
- Text and UI color is changed to be easier on the eyes.
- New game menu rework.
- Fixed a bug causing opponents to shoot 1 tile further than they should.
- Added range of fire preview mode (by default, the Q button).
- The planned damage is calculated more correctly. The damage value is shown in the tooltip.
- Key bindings (finally!).

If there are any bugs left, please let me know, I will try to fix them ASAP. Thanks for your support and I hope you'll enjoy this update! =D

I've also added a one-week 25% discount starting on May 28th.

Mainframe Defenders: Meltdown. Tier 3.

Hello everyone and welcome to the final Meltdown update dev diary!

One of the significant features of this update will be the addition of Tier 3. This tier is smaller compared to other tiers, but it comes with a set of 4 unique enemies and 2 new compositions. Those enemies use some new mechanics. For example, one of these enemies, Assailant, can fire right back at your units once per turn. And Assailant inherits Acarid's ability to boost its attack after each shot, making this foe deadly if not handled correctly. And of course, you can give enemies taste of their own medicine by equipping brand new weapons with return fire yourself.
Of course, Tier 3 is not the only addition to the game. Overall, I've added 15+ new items (mostly rare versions of existing ones) and reworked some of the old ones. The update also contains 14 achievements and Steam cloud save support, among many other improvements to the game.
One such improvement is Internal Damage rework. It was inspired by Orla's suggestion, and now it deals 25% of the target's max health as damage, giving this status effect own identity that it previously lacked.
Propulsion Damaged was another effect that I was not happy with. It was great when used by enemies, limiting player squad mobility, but it was not that useful against the enemy. So I've made a special version of that effect for player: Immobilize. This one completely disables movement, preventing enemy tanks from reaching your most vulnerable units and helping you to pin down retreating enemies.
The game progression received some overhauls as well. You can no longer get rare items on T1, but you'll get more uncommon items on T2 with one rare item guaranteed on each T3 mission (except Matter Raid). The shop is also updated to follow these rules.

The Meltdown update will be available on May 27th. Thanks for your support and I hope you'll enjoy the update!

Mainframe Defenders: Meltdown. UI improvments.

Hello everyone and welcome to the Mainframe Defenders dev diary!

Overall, I think the base game had a solid UI and I hope you can agree with me =) But of course there is always room for improvement. I've changed some parts of the UI based on your feedback and added some extra stuff. One such feature is key binding. This will also show some of the more obscure hotkeys, like zooming in and out and cycling between squad units. I've also added the ability to see upgrade level in squad menu, weapon range highlight for player and enemies, and improved "planned damage" calculation. The latter now shows numerical damage values and correctly predicts damage for units that clear status effects. The new game menu also got a rework: now you don't have to click on a unit preset to see the starting items, and units are now split by upgrade family. You can see the results on this screenshot:

Hopefully, this will improve your gaming experience! I'll see you in the next dev diary, where I will talk about Tier 3.

Mainframe Defenders: Meltdown. New missions.

Hello and welcome to the Mainframe Defenders dev diary!

Those of you who played Mainframe Defenders probably have noticed a lack of mission variety. The missions indeed were barely different from one another. After all, this is a game focused on combat, and there are only so many different ways of saying "kill all enemies". But the main difference is in the details. So, I've tried to make each mission type fell a bit more unique, even if some of them provide similar challenges.
I've started with some reworks of existing mission types:

* DOWNLOAD DATA: You don't have to kill every single unit on this mission now. Once you've obtained the data, you'll need to return your squad to the room you've spawned in. The enemy will be waiting for you there, though. And every squad on this mission will have an Armored Spider in an attempt to slow you down.
* DESTROY INFECTED NODE: Now Infected Node applies Interference on your units each turn. But enemies that are immune to status effects can't spawn during this mission.

As of right now, I can also confirm 3 new mission types:
* DESTROY THE MAINTENANCE STATION: Your target is an infected repair station and some fabricators. There are two things that are unique to this mission type: enemies can retreat to repair and units spawned by fabricators guard the repair station instead of blindly charging at you.
* REACTIVATE THE DEFENSE: There are powerful allied Centurions (new unit) you need to activate. Once you do, you'll need to destroy enemy reinforcements.
* MATTER RAID: In this mission, you need to collect at least 3 out of 5 matter chests and then escape. Each time you collect a chest, the enemy receives reinforcement. A very high risk and reward mission that can provide a lot of matter for your upgrading needs =)

Also, a small change: Mainframe AI Core will now narrate some parts of the mission.

Those changes should hopefully make missions feel a bit more unique. But that is it for today! Stay tuned for new dev diaries.

Mainframe Defenders: Meltdown update announced!

Mainframe Defenders: Meltdown Update Announced!

Hi everyone, ShiftyCode here!
Since the release, I've been listening to the feedback our community provided. I've accumulated some fresh ideas and I've been working for some time on a massive free update for everyone. And today, I am happy to finally announce Mainframe Defenders: Meltdown Update!
I'll post more details (including the release date) in upcoming Dev Diaries. Meanwhile, here is what to expect of it:

- Mission variety. You guys rightfully pointed out that missions get stale pretty fast. To combat this, I am working on at least 3 new mission types, alongside with reworks of existing ones. More on that in the next dev diary!
- QoL improvements. Key bindings, UI tweaks, etc. New color pallet that should be easier on the eyes.
- Reworks. Some underused mechanics and stuff with identity crisis will be reworked. Internal damage is too similar to corrosion? Heat builds are forcing you to use Plasma Residue? This (and a lot more) is going to be fixed!
- New items and mechanics to play with!
- New player units with unique upgrades.
- Updated demo version.

This is by no means a full list. There is some other stuff in the Meltdown Update that will be announced later, so stay tuned for Dev Diaries!

Mainframe Defenders 1.04 Big Balance Patch

In this patch, I tried to stave off some obvious choices, such as Repair Kit and items and upgrades that gave a second move. Also, some weak items were strengthened, and the starting items of some units were changed (for which the new items were added). All these measures will make builds more diverse.

Item Balance:
- Description of the Razor now explains that damage to itself is reduced by armor.
- Autocannon: heat increased to 20.
- Plasma Cannon: heat is reduced to 10.
- Autocannon: damage changed to 7-9.
- Plasma Sniper Rifle: critical damage increased to 35.
- Broadsword: heat increased to 25.
- Armored Chassis: now does not add heat per turn.
- Heavy Armor: now gives +12 armor, and reduces max. heat by 25 instead of 2 move range penalty.
- Heavy Reactor: now reduces max. heat by 25 instead of 2 move range penalty.
- ExposedReactor: now reduces max. health by 15.
- Repair Kit: use cost increased to 2 AP.
- FC-31 Carbine: damage increased to 15-17.
- T3 Mechanic upgrade: provides only 10 bonus damage for Internal Damage.
- T2 Mechanic upgrade: now repairs 2-3 hull in a radius.
- AP Ammo: now penetrates 10/20 armor.
- Lightweight Propulsion: no longer reduces heat.
- Ray Gun: no longer gives movement bonus, minimum damage increased by 2.
- Scouting Equipment: now provides +4 secondary move instead of +6, and also takes 25 max. heat.
- T1 Oppressor upgrade: now applies a reduced amount of Corrosion from non-critical shots.
- All items and upgrades that give range now have drawbacks.
- Rend Cannon: heat is reduced to 20, and armor penetration is increased to 15/25.
- interference Matrix: now reduces the damage of enemies by 35%.

Enemies:
- Acarid damage now increases by 2 after each attack, up to 6.
- Overlord and Improved Acarid: damage now increases by 3 after each attack, up to 9.
- The maximum heat of T2 units is increased.

New Content:
- 2 new items: Cobra, Repair Matrix.

Unit loadouts:
- Oppressor B now has Autocannon, Liquid Cooling, and Acid Infuser as starting items.
- Mechanic B now has a Rend Cannon, Scavenger Nanites and a Repair Matrix (new) as starting items.
- Atlas B now has Cobra (new) and B-81 Reactor as starting items.

Bug fixes and improvements:
- Fixed bug when Propulsion Damage was affecting a unit 1 turn more than intended.
- Space now allows you to end the turn.
- Added new option to skip all menu animations.

P. S. If you like the game, please consider leaving a review. It will help me a lot = D

I've been busy making final preparations for the game release. This should be a final patch before the release. Here are the notes:
Demo and full game:
- Added in-game patch notes menu.
- The "Propulsion damaged" effect now prevents any secondary moves.
- Enemies with heat-inducing attacks now prefer targets with a lot of heat.
- Acarids, Repairmen, and Sharpshooters now have a secondary move.
- Enemies can now retreat after shooting, preferring positions behind a cover.
- Numerous item balance changes.
- Unit balance changes. Enemies gain more stats on Hard and Very Hard.
- Void tiles are now more distinct from the fog of war.
- You can lock up to 2 items in fabricator (locked items stay when the shop updates).

The full game only:

Mainframe Defenders Devlog: Progression System Part 2

Hello and welcome to the next short Mainframe Defenders development diary.
Unlocking new items is fun, but playing with the same units can become boring pretty quickly. So, for the full version of the game, I've decided to add the unlocking mechanic for new units and presets. Unlocked units can offer either completely new upgrades or focus on alternative builds for existing ones.

An example of a unit built around a specific strategy is the reworked Vindicator. His set of upgrades makes it possible to use weapons with cooldown more often and adds bonus damage for each weapon with cooldown he has. This opens up a unique playstyle that allows the Vindicator to use a different weapon each turn efficiently.

The unlock gauge is filled after each game. However, the gauge becomes more difficult to fill with each unlock. In total, at least 9 units will be unlockable upon Mainframe Defenders release!

Mainframe Defenders Devlog: Progression System Part 1

Hi and welcome to small Mainframe Defenders development diary =D
If you've played the demo, you may find that after a while the game becomes a bit stale. You've played all missions, tried all items and upgrades, and there is not much to discover now.
To reignite this sense of discovery, I've added a progression system to Mainframe Defenders. The system is pretty straightforward but serves its purpose well enough. The items are unlocked by spending a certain amount of "research points". After each run, you earn research points, depending on your performance. The amount earned also scales with difficulty, so more challenge gives you faster progression.

While some items that were present in the demo are unlockable in full version, there are also a lot of new unlockable items with completely new mechanics. This hopefully will enable some interesting combinations. For example, a new unlockable Skadi item makes a unit completely immune to overheat damage. You can combine it with Brazier which gains bonus damage depending on your heat for the insane damage boost. You have to be careful though, as you are still technically overheated, and will receive damage from Plasma Residue stacks.
