Godot tries to load tablet drivers, which can sometimes be unstable. This is a small windows update to skip loading the tablet drivers so they should never crash the game.
This update is mostly just to fix some typos in the German subtitles.
Hope those of you who found the exploit have gotten your golden loops, because that should be fixed, now!
I felt the part after the fake finish line was a little unfair, so I added a temporary blocker to give players a second chance, but once it's hit, it's "So long, sucker!" Like, literally, it's a sucker. And it's so long. Because I had to be more horrible while making things less horrible to maintain balance in the universe. Other things in this build:
Big thanks to Kau, Combine (Bob), and Cold for translating the subtitles and menus! I wasn't planning to attempt to localize this game because it has so many puns, but they gave it a great shot! Here's what's new in this build: [olist]
Fixed some bugs, added some landmarks to help reduce confusion, and added more bad jokes to help increase confusion.
Since Goop Loop was launched in Early Access back in 2020, features and content were continuously added, such as more obstacles to overcome, improved art assets, unlockable loops and goop colors, customizable controls, and a ton of new lines of dialogue that will make even the dadliest dad sigh. For launch, an intro cinematic was created to completely clarify the origin of the goop, and definitely won't raise further questions. /s In addition to the intro cinematic, there are a few other tweaks and fixes: - Fixed some goop colors not showing up in the Goop Look menu properly. - Goop colors flash when selected, since some of them are difficult to see. - Starfield menu background to bring back memories of those classic screensavers. If, by chance, you happen to be press reading this and want to publish an article, here's a press kit gooploop.lonewulfstudio.com/presskit/
It's been a while since I've posted an update, because creating this intro cinematic took longer than I expected. "Just throw some moving images around and add some sounds. How long could that take?" The answer, as with most things game development related, is "way too long." Several people were curious about the backstory of the goop. This new intro cinematic should answer all those questions, and definitely not raise any new ones. In addition to the intro cinematic, there have been some other changes since the lasts news update: - Menu loads before being thrown into the game. - Goop blobs are less likely to be disconnected when stretching away from the loop. - Added some more triggers to change the face of the goop when appropriate. - Goop farts now have particles (aka farticles). - Threw in some more secret console commands for fun. - Possible fix for achievement sounds playing when the achievement is already unlocked.
Got some feedback that the camera might be better centered on the loop, so I added a console command to test it. You can press ~ then type "camera loop", "camera goop" or "camera average" to focus on the loop, goop, or average of the two (default behavior) respectively. Also reduced the volume of the "Goop Loop!" intro and fixed some bugs with the face occasionally showing the wrong eyes or brows.
Didn't finish the intro cinematic I was working on, so this is just a small update with some eyebrows to make the goop more expressive! There are also a couple bug fixes with triggers and color selection if you have more than 1 page worth of goop colors.
The sky's the limit for this update! Actually, it's not. I updated more than just the sky. In addition to creating a new sky background with parallax clouds that move at different rates, I've also fixed a bug with the input remapping if you happen to remap the controller sticks for whatever reason. The UI for selecting goop and loop colors has been improved, and there's even a new achievement for completing the game after collecting all the paint buckets!
Here's something rare. A normal changelog list:
Yeah, many of the achievements are patronizing, like giving you an achievement for getting over the first tiny hill, then giving you an achievement for getting that achievement, but it's Goop Loop. What do you expect? There are some more challenging achievements too, though, like getting the golden loop or juggling a paint bucket.
I guess I'm trying to reduce gamer's block? In doing so, I've introduced writer's block trying to think of something clever for this update. In short, the blocks are also... short. They have different colors, too! And different sounds when you hit the higher ones. The low ones go "boop", and the high ones go "". As usual, there are some new voice lines as well to hopefully keep you entertained as you struggle. There are also sounds and confetti when you complete the game!
Sometimes you spend all day doing one seemingly very small thing. This was one of those days. All that's new in the update is some hills in the background. But, hey, the game looks marginally better, hopefully! There's some other stuff from a previous update that I never got around to posting news for, though: - Boop sounds for bouncing off of things in the areas that play homage to some classic games. - Console "scale" command to resize the goop, because, why not? - Controller stick can be used to navigate the menu (instead of just the dpad). - Fixed jagged aliasing on the shiny metal loops. - More voice lines. - Enabled video compression on some textures to maybe help performance for people playing on potatos.
Want to jump with the Q key? Knock yourself out! Want to move left and right with the mouse buttons for some bizarre challenge? Go for it! Want to bind the quick restart button right next to your movement keys, so when you smash the keyboard in frustration, you completely restart to make yourself even more frustrated? Have at it! Keys and controller buttons are now fully customizable, and there's an optional quick reset button you can bind, which is handy if you're trying to do speed runs. Made some minor tweaks to the level and added more voice lines, too.
If you collect all the paint buckets and reach the finish, you'll unlock a very colorful rainbow loop! It's amazing how such a seemingly simple feature can take so much time to implement. Just know that I, the developer, suffer just as much as the players. There are some more voice lines to either add to or alleviate that suffering as well.
The goop became a lot more expressive this update. You might get a smile if you actually succeed. You'll probably subsequently get a shocked, horrified face as you fall back down. This has really just been a goop cosmetic update. New eyes, a mouth, and a range of emotions will make it harder to blame the goop for your mistakes. I also fixed an issue with the goop shrinking a bit while in the air and made it look a bit more... blobby? A fine looking goop, to be sure. I dare you to find a more handsome goop on Steam!
This will likely be the last update before the price increases. Paying so little for so much suffering is almost more criminal than insider trading! Initially, I planned to just spend a couple months, get the game done, leave it super cheap, and move on, but I've continued to add a bunch of stuff to it, and I have many more ideas, so I'd like to continue updating it. Just being completely candid, the amount of time and effort it takes just to get a single sale makes the original $2 price tag completely nonviable. Even if I spent all of my time marketing and didn't have to spend any time developing, I wouldn't be able to make enough to cover the cost of living. I'm hoping increasing the price will make the dream of being a successful indie dev slightly more plausible. Consider an investment in Goop Loop an investment in the future of indie games! Seeing as it seems to take players 4-5 hours to complete a first run, now, I think people will certainly be getting their money's worth, still. Oh, and just some quick notes on the latest update: In addition to more sound lines and amusing things that happen when you fail, I've added a developer console. This is to help make development easier, not so you can cheat! You certainly shouldn't press the ~ key to open the console and try typing commands. Those will not help you.
Have you been screaming in frustration at a blob of goop? Now, maybe, you'll feel guilty about it. Just look at that cute little guy. LOOK AT HIM! He's trying his best, OK? You should try your best, too. In addition to cute eyes, the goop blushes after farting. These are the kinds of high-priority tasks I need to finish before the game can get out of early access. I'm pretty sure that feature, alone, bumps the value of the game up by a couple dollars, so you might want to grab the game before the price increases! I also added some different voice lines depending on how long you took to beat the game, so, after feeling bad about yelling at that cute little goop, you can also feel bad about how long it took to finish.
Are you tired of your palms sweating during an intense session of Goop Loop while the goop looks calm and collected? Probably not, but I made the goop sweat anyway. It should make it more obvious when the goop is tired and can't jump as far, plus what's more beautiful than sweat streaming off of a blob of goop? It's a small update, but makes room for bigger updates in the future.
Did you feel you weren't tormented enough before? No worries! There are even more painful obstacles to pass before reaching the finish line now.
- Some more voice lines and other trolls when you fall down gaps. - I'll also complement you when you take a particular shortcut. Don't get your hopes up too much, though. - You can do more than just turn me on in the sound settings. - Timer also had an issue where it could only be turned on. That's fixed. - I haven't forgotten the fist. Extending punching glove has been visually improved. Soon, the finish line will move further up, so maybe try to unlock that golden loop before it gets even more difficult.
Here's a list of what's new with this update:
I fixed a bug where you'd start with the golden loop when playing for the first time. Consider that a special deal if you played for the first time recently and got yourself a golden loop. I'll let you keep it for the moment. Maybe brag to your friends about it and challenge them to get the golden loop. Show them who the REAL hardcore gamer is! The level has also been extended a bit, but it's not fully playable, yet, so the finish line hasn't moved. You can still play around in the new area after finishing, though, to get an idea of things to come!
Can you manage to unlock the golden loop? Based on forum suggestions, the loop will now change color depending on how quickly you complete the level. Might want to try to get it now before the level is extended and it becomes even more difficult!
Happen to get a really nice goop color and wish you could go back to it? Now you can! Well, if you get that color after this update, that is. There are also some new voice lines for enabling/disabling narration and adjusting the narration volume as well as other minor tweaks.
People will likely be stuck in the loop for a long time, so now there's lots to listen to! The level has been extended slightly beyond that as well. Also made some tweaks to how the goop tires out with some additional visual feedback to hopefully make movement a little easier.
It was possible to just repeatedly spam jump near the front of the loop, kind of trivializing the movement mechanic. Now spamming jump "tires out" the goop, making jump spamming less effective. This shouldn't impact normal movement. Only spamming multiple jumps per second. Thanks to PaleBlueZebra for pointing this out!
