This update contains 2 of the new features we've been working on as we prep for the Season 2 start and the MacOS and Linux builds. The work on those other are almost done, but we wanted to release these nice quality of life improvements for all in advance of the larger release hopefully within the next week or so. We are in the final stages of testing those other platforms and testing our season change scripts to ensure they work with the multiplayer improvements.

Whats next after this release? After this patch we have a few more items we would like to action. Mac/Linux Support! The Mac and Linux builds are so close to being ready for release! We need just a little bit longer to test and ensure they are fit for the wide release. So while they wont be in this next patch, they will follow very soon after. Offline Mode and Better Bots We want to allow users to access the DLC while offline so those who are doing the campaign and see the Town Event but dont have an internet connection (or perhaps dont want to face another human user) can still complete the event by facing a team of BOTS. We also want to improve the BOTS so that they present a little more challenge as well as give our modders access to them in some capacity to allow for custom BOTs to be shared around the community. Connection Code Last but definitely not least, we want to continue to improve the connection code. Since release we have made great strides towards a more stable environment. We still have some work to do in this effort. As part of this update we also created a new public beta branch on Steam that has a new build containing an improved version of our network connection code that we would like users to test before we roll it out to the community at large. The branch is called tbc_test and the improvements should significantly reduce desync and disconnect issues, while also improving the speed and responsiveness of gameplay in all multiplayer games.

These conditions stack on top of other Light conditions already present in whatever room you are present in the Farm or Space and Time. Battle Limit Skill Refreshments in Endless Harvest: Battle Limited skills with battle-long durations were balanced for the normal game structure. In Endless Harvest, this resulted in them being overpowered because a given combat lasts much longer than a normal 4-monster combat. Now in Endless Harvest, Battle Limited skills don’t refresh until the end of a given wave *group* instead of refreshing after each wave. This helps with the balance and creates some tension around when you should pop and lock those Leper combos. Shard Dust, however, now carries the additional benefit of refreshing battle limited skills on an individual heroes. This is a zany idea that we think can be compelling and give you some additional tactical options. Of course, don’t hit that dust too much, or it will leave the hero worn out. With this build we added the new Korean Localization provided by BADA Games. This new localization has replaced the old Korean and is selectable by choosing Korean (한국어) in the language select. Korean B or 한국어 (B) is the old localization which is still being re-worked by the original translator firm.

A couple key fixes from observing the first sessions!

Greetings! Along with the Crimson Court DLC launch, we have made a variety of improvements and updates to the core game, which will be available to all users.
Soundtrack: We have updated the Soundtrack to include all new tracks from the Crimson Court at no charge. Thanks to our composer, Stuart Chatwood, for this! If you haven’t purchased the Soundtrack, get on that! Modding / Steam Workshop: Due to extensive rework involved in creating the DLC, some file structures have changed which will break some mods until the creators have a chance to revise. Sincere apologies! We were unable to get all of the information out ahead of time, but stand by to assist mod creators in understanding the changes. HERE’S TO YOU Your support of Darkest Dungeon has been integral to our continued success, and we at Red Hook wanted to thank you from the bottom of our black hearts. This small update is to help gather another data point in which we had some questions about. This is to help inform some of the design changes/decisions going into Radiant Mode. We are aware of the heavy CPU/GPU load issues that is affecting some of the players. We are working on it, but to get a full solution and ensure it's solid it will take us a few weeks to resolve. If you have been adversely affected by the latest build, and have seen your machine run the game worse, we recommend you roll back to the pre_controller_support BETA that we have made public. You can access it by right clicking on Darkest Dungeon, selecting Properties, then checking the BETAs tab. |

We are deploying a new build to our public beta branch "coming_in_hot". The main purpose of this update was to merge back all the development done during the porting process to PS4. This should bring the PC/MAC/Linux up to date with the PS4/PSV builds.

Town Events add variety to the overall campaign and also provide additional personality to the Hamlet itself! In some cases, the events are related to quests. For example, the ALL SAINTS DAY event has a high chance to proc after successfully completing the Ruins Gather Holy Relics Quest. ALL SAINTS DAY sends the Abbey into a zealous celebration, and makes all treatments there free for that week!. We like this example as it helps answer a common community concern on the value of the various gather/destroy quests that we’ve had in the game for a long time, and have been criticized for their loss in value due to inventory restrictions. Town Events are currently planned to deploy in mid to late May. We will also be circulating the patch on the “Coming in Hot” beta branch before wide release, so stay tuned for details if you wish to be one of the first to try out the update! PLAYSTATION UPDATE We have previously announced Late Spring/Early Summer as a target for PS4 and Vita release. With the adjustment of schedules and matching up with potential future events we are now targeting late July or August. We want to make sure that all of the Town Event contents we are working on now are solid for inclusion into the console release, as well as making sure it runs like butter and plays well with a controller. Adjusting controls, in particular, is not a quick process. We have a level of quality that we want to ensure in all of our releases and we would rather take some extra time to make it right, rather than rush it out the door. The awesome and talented Sickhead Games has been helping us with the porting. We remain incredibly excited to bring the game to PS4 and Vita, and we have seen such enthusiasm from the community, as well. Sony has been a fantastic partner to work with, and we can’t wait to make a big Summer splash with the game! STEAM WORKSHOP / MODDING Although we don’t have anything concrete here just yet, we wanted to also remind everyone that we are committed to improving the mod-ability of the game and officially supporting it via better tools, docs, and Steam Workshop integration! We have been amazed at the creations we’ve seen already. With everything already mentioned in this update, we’ve just been busy with other things we promised sooner! This remains incredibly important to us and we believe will really strengthen the long-term community of the game. We’ll update you as we break ground! Those of you already engaging in modding, please feel free to post requests and ideas for tools/docs/etc in the Steam forums. REMAINING KICKSTARTER REWARDS Last but definitely not least, we are starting to ramp up the machinery in preparation for producing the remaining Kickstarter rewards: prints, art books, diorama, drawn faces, etc. We have definitely not forgotten these! This will be on our public beta branch for a few days before moving over to the live game. This should fix some crashes/errors players were having. Localization of the Antiquarian will be in the next build, with much thanks to our community volunteers who are helping.

We have uploaded our Linux build to Steam and we want to invite our linux players to take part in the public beta! While everyone can now see Linux as a supported platform on our store page, we aren’t doing our full release just yet. Just like before we want to let the players hit the build and help us make sure it is tip-top for public release.
We will keep it in public beta for about a week to make sure the build is solid and any bugs are fixed. After the build looks good we will make it available to all without the extra steps mentioned above. While we don’t have any specific areas we are concerned about, as far as testing is concerned, it would just be super helpful for you to play the game and report any weird graphical issues you encounter. A concern is making sure assets are being loaded correctly. For reporting issues, there will be a stickied thread on both the Crash and Non-Crash boards dedicated for Linux issues. |
