Hello, everyone! |
Hello, everyone! |
Hello, everyone! |
Hello, everyone! |
Today, we are applying a set of focused balance changes to Faeria servers.
Frog Tosser has been a heavy influence on the meta for quite some time now. Its presence can be felt both in tournaments and on ladder, where it keeps some key cards like Ancient Beastmaster and Drakar Sky Captain in check. We hope this change will further diversify blue-green in their late game choices, as well as be less traumatizing to all of the poor 4 health creatures out there. Frog Tosser will now be less of an overall good card, but instead one you may want to build your deck around. In tandem with this change, we will be increasing the power of some other less used blue-green cards. (See below) Haunted Husk
Dealing with one Haunted Husk is very much manageable. However, it can get quite frustrating dealing with multiple Haunted Husks at once - especially in the early game. By lowering its health, we should open up additional avenues of clearing them from play. Increasing the land cost by yet another wild land should also give more time for the opponent to react and prevent early husk high rolls, which can be very decisive. Rakoan Illusionist
Illusionist is a bit too easy to include in a lot of decks as a defensive tool. Much of the Rakoan package provides an early game arsenal that punishes aggression a bit too effectively without posing a big deck-building cost. This makes combo decks like Carassius Creation a lot stronger than they normally would be. This change should help diversify Rakoan decks and encourage more creative deckbuilding.
Buffs:
Seed of Paradise
Seed of Elements sat in a languishing state for some time. We had considered giving it a boost a few times before, but were worried wed send ramping decks even farther off the scales. With the nerf to Frog Tosser, combined with all the other historical hits to ramp decks, we feel more comfortable giving it a boost. It should be a relatively safe ramp card to increase in power, as it does provide the opportunity for counter play and falls quite flat in the late game. Fugoro, Captain of the Gagana
After observing the way treasure decks tend to work for a long time, it saddens us that Fugoro was almost never included. As shown on the card art, hes been sleeping on his job. Removing the wild land costs will make him more viable in the early game, and give him an actual shot at scaling up to become a real win condition. Bring on the giant Fugoros. Blood Obelisk
Blood Obelisk is a fun card to build a deck around, but cant seem to squeeze its way into anything but mono-red. This change will make it a bit more splashable with other colors, and hopefully more fun to play around with. Saviour of the Meek
Sort of the same situation here as Blood Obelisk - were relaxing the land requirements to see if other colors and decks can enjoy this card. Banon, Captain of the Radiance
A small change in stats to make the card well rounded and not be as big of a loss in tempo when played. Banon should offer a greater presence on board for being such an expensive card both in Faeria and deck building cost. ---- And thats it! Sorry for the wait on this one, weve had our hands pretty full - but have not abandoned our precious world of Faeria. This list of changes is relatively small, but with some hits to cards that have a huge presence in the meta, were sure that this should shake things up nicely. Wed like to thank long-time Faeria master SuperbLizard for being the primary contributor to this update, who advised us on this set of balance changes. He has also written most of the commentary. However, if something here upsets you - throw !eggs at us, not him. Thanks for playing our games. - Team Abrakam |

We've received a lot of feedback on these Discover cards from Gagana. While we originally intended to tweak these cards in ways that required changing card text, we're in a spot right now where doing such a thing will severely set back various review and QA processes we're going through as we prepare for console release. Therefore, we're fairly limited to adjusting only Faeria or land costs in cards for the near future. Anyway, we decided that these changes would likely accomplish what we're after, which is to generally charge more of a cost for the out-of-color privileges these cards provide. While card draw is generally not so important in Faeria, Faeria cost is - and 1 Faeria cost really, really matters. While these changes may not seem significant, we think they will pull these cards away from being so commonly encountered, but still be useful cards in specific deck archetypes. Last month we introduced a change to Haunted Husk and saw it swing into the forefront of the meta. While we're very happy that we could make this card more playable, we think it's a little problematic when it is dropped very early in a game. With an increased land cost of 1 Wild, its presence will generally be delayed by one turn while still keeping it viable in decks that are not strictly Yellow. As always, thanks for your feedback - and we will continue to make changes and improvements as necessary. Read the patch notes here. |

Watching more than one does not increase your chances. The Monthly Cup is a single elimination monthly competition where 32 of the best Faeria players from all over the world compete for $3300 in prizes. Each match consists of a Best of 5 series of games in Pantheon format. Watch, cheer, and win. You can earn prizes just by watching the stream. Next year: Faeria World Circuit begins Our plan is to move away from monthly, isolated tournaments and open a wider reaching seasonal qualification system. While we believe the current Monthly Cup system works well, we've had a lot of feedback from our competitive players over time and are taking the opportunity in the new year to restructure the way our official tournament system is built. We'll be sharing more specifics soon, but there are some basic points we'd like to communicate now to prepare you more properly for what is it come.
Regarding ladder reset points specifically, expect only the top 20 to receive some amount of points toward the World Circuit each month. For practical purposes, they will not be awarded to all god ranks - only the very highest placements. And no, alternate accounts will not count. Most importantly: The current season's points will count as the first points toward the new World Circuit! To be extra clear here, this means the ladder reset on January 1st, 2018 will count toward the first season. We've made it as easy as possible for you. Please note, if you have ever changed your Twitch display name after linking your accounts, you MUST unlink your accounts then RELINK them, or you will receive no prizes. Changing your Twitch username breaks the linking process. The prize structure is as follows: (Remember, each is a CHANCE to win) See blog for image You are able to view your Egg Timer at any moment by looking at your profile on The Hub. Egg hatching As with every other Monthly Cup, Eggs will be hatching the entire weekend. There are 8 total hatchlings you can potentially get. After that, your Eggs won't hatch. Regarding gathering votes for the Monthly Cup: While we will always encourage players to spread the word about Faeria, we do not encourage practices which may violate the terms of service of the platform in which you solicit these votes. We think it's great when players ask others to vote for them to compete in our esports competition, as it often draws outside eyes to our community and perhaps piques the interest of those who discover Faeria for the first time this way. Today we release what we consider to be the most significant balance patch since the official release of Faeria. You'll find all the details here.

Developer commentary We like to keep the patch notes here short and to the point, but if you'd like to hear more of our complete thoughts on these changes: Today's update also introduced a bug to Flame Spitter, which now contains incorrect text. It should read "Gift - Deal 1 damage to an enemy." as before, and will be fixed soon. Thank you for reading and your continued feedback.

HD Oversky Card Art Due to popular demand, we've recently added HD versions of all Oversky card art to our public Dropbox. Google Play update change While we had assigned the Android app to specific regions (Canada and Belgium) on the Google Play store previously, a recent change to Google Play now prevents devices outside of those regions from even updating the app, if they had installed it by some other method. While choosing how this works is outside of our control, we also still are not ready to open the Android application to a wider release outside of Canada and Belgium until we have improved it and raised it to the standards we have set for ourselves. Our intention was never to 'lock out' anyone who previously had access to the Android app, which is why it has been region locked from the very beginning. Thank you for understanding. News about the next set of cards, a Monthly Cup qualifier adjustment, and MCXV recap!
As always, we will continue to keep you updated as we're prepared to say more. Monthly Cup qualifier change - Asian support This Monthly Cup season, the 2nd qualifier set to take place on October 28th is being moved from its normal 18:00 CEST time to 12:00 CEST. The intentions behind this change are to help cater more to our growing Asian player base while still keeping EU timezones reasonable for both qualifiers. 12:00 CEST is equivalent to 19:00 for areas in Japan and South Korea, for example. We will observe the results of this change and determine afterward if this is how Monthly Cup qualifier structure will remain in the future. Those who are already signed up for this qualifier will receive an email explaining the timezone change, To be very clear, this means that each qualifier this month will start at a different time.
We hope this change will provide more flexibility for those who wish to participate in these qualifying tournaments. Please ensure that you compete in next Saturday's qualifier if you can only make it at the normal time! Monthly Cup XV recap Miss the $3300 Monthly Cup last weekend?

Saturday, October 7th, watch 32 of the best players in Faeria compete for $3300 in prizes. Also, the Adventure Pouch is closing Monday, and our AI has deep-seated emotional issues.
One more weekend of Adventure Pouch goodness. We hope you enjoyed our special Adventure Pouch promotion for the release of the Oversky expansion. Remember, if you haven't purchased a Pouch yet for the rewards, the points you earn throughout the Pouch being available are retroactive - should you really want those cosmetics. For clarity's sake: The islands of the Oversky do not disappear when the Adventure Pouch closes. They can't possibly fit in there. The only winning move is not to play Earlier this week, while investigating a strange bug and running some tests, we discovered a rare but disturbing tendency from our in-game AI. Each turn, part of the AI's calculation is to determine if their opponent will have lethal next turn with what is on board. If the AI determines there is no way to prevent this, the best possible output based on its calculation model is to kill itself. Yes, our AI commits suicide from time to time. Often with a card like Flame Burst. An honorable Seppuku. It would rather do the deed itself than give you the satisfaction of the kill. Android gem fixes This week we have applied fixes to some critical issues where Android players were not correctly receiving gems after making a purchase. You should now properly have these items after logging in, if you have not already been refunded through Google. Monthly Cup XV: $3300 in prizes

$1000+ Monthly Cup earners With the fifteenth Monthly Cup on its way in about a week, it seems appropriate to showcase some of the top competitive earners in Faeria Monthly Cups. Listed below are those players who have earned $1000 or more from Monthly Cup events only.
Of note, this isn't to discredit anyone who has earned less than this amount. Earning any prize in a Monthly Cup is an achievement of its own. Faeria can be a very difficult game to master at the highest level, and the Monthly Cup is where we get to showcase that elite level of play. Monthly Cup XV takes place Saturday, October 7th at 16:00 CEST. Android purchase support issues We're aware of some instances where players are reporting gem purchases not working properly on Android devices. We are investigating this matter and assure you that if you have made a purchase and did not receive your item, we will absolutely correct the problem and apologize for the inconvenience. As mentioned last Friday, we're applying a small balance patch today. Read on for more!
We have made several important changes to Tree of Everlife. Both of its effects have been redesigned into one single powerful Production effect. "You are immune to damage" has been removed and replaced with +7 life to your orb on Production. This means the opponent will generally have one extra turn to react to the Tree before its ability has any effect on the field. It also means opponents will no longer be completely locked out from finishing out the game with orb damage, provided they can outpace the healing that the Tree now provides. In addition, its buffing effect now only targets a single creature in hand during Production. Notably, the Tree can now target any creature in hand, not just green creatures. We feel this will prevent players from hoarding all of their 'best creatures' in hand until Tree is played, and make games that involve the card more active in general. Crystal Flower
After our first significant change to Crystal Flower, we've continued to observe this powerful Oversky card in play. While we think its power level is at a much more appropriate spot, we feel that it is probably still too difficult for most players to deal with on a general basis. We don't want our players to feel continually oppressed by any one single card, and therefore are confident that increasing the investment required to play this card as soft removal will tip the scales more in favor of the opponent in many situations, yet still maintain Flower's usefulness. Wood Elemental
There has been a lot of focus on elementals in general since Oversky's release, and we've decided to tone down Green's specifically. It's no secret that Green, by design, has many of the most powerful land ramp cards in the game, and we feel it's appropriate at this point to bring Wood Elemental down to a level that may be more in line with the other elementals. We've been very happy after the last change to the elementals that Green's has become so popular, but we no longer feel that it needs to so heavily carry land ramping on its back at this point. With only one less attack, it still should see a lot of use in many styles of Green decks. Bug fixes

Enter Wisplight Falls, the third island in the Oversky, today!
Balance Patch If you haven't already, make sure to check out the changes to Frog Tosser and Wild Growth from yesterday's balance patch. We continue to keep a close eye on the gameplay landscape. Questions about the Adventure Pouch or the Oversky? Explorer's Glade and Ulani's Realm overview Aquablad has put together a general overview of the cards from the first two islands here: Pirate's Aerie The next Oversky island, Pirate's Aerie, releases next Tuesday, along with 8 more cards!
|
We're pushing a pair of balance changes in preparation for tomorrow's next Oversky island. Let's talk about them in context.
Wild Growth has, up until the Oversky, been a fairly innocuous card. With few heavy land cost creatures for Green to go for, this card didn't really have enough targets to reach to make it that dangerous. With the introduction of Wild land costs, this card suddenly shines as the only method in the game of generating 2 special lands with 1 card. With even more methods of land ramp being added in the Oversky starting tomorrow, it's no longer okay or necessary for this card to remain in its previous form. Frog Tosser
A card like Frog Tosser has never existed in Faeria before, and we knew this card was going to cause a lot of excitement. The ability to destroy a creature and have up to two harvesters remain on board is an incredibly attractive tool that pushes Green/Blue deck building. However, we feel that we didn't properly gauge the devastating swings this card can often achieve with such a high health value. When Frog Tosser is able to trade and survive with most things at its cost level and below, it often costs the opponent far too many resources to answer in turn. With a high land cost, this card is meant to be incredibly strong, just not "always the right play" strong. Our observations over the last week have confirmed to us that we need to make this body a bit more fragile. The Whale in the Room Yes, we hear the lamentations of the Skywhale. This is a card we have a very close eye on, but will not be pushing a change to this week. With new cards on their way tomorrow and the hits to ramp decks in general today, we wanted to let things settle as we continue to observe the effect of Oversky on Faeria. We know there are a lot of strong opinions out there about this iconic card of the Oversky, and of Swallow in general. We assure you we'll continue to make changes we think are best for the game and result in the most diverse and exciting gameplay possible. Thank you for reading, and see you tomorrow in Wisplight Falls. |

Monthly Cup XIII is tomorrow, and we'll be revealing Oversky cards! Watch and win prizes from your favorite armchair.
This design change is meant to prevent what we tend to call "Swallowception," which is when something swallows a creature that had already swallowed something. Previously, you could do this with no limitation, meaning you could swallow a creature that swallowed another one, which swallowed something else, that swallowed Krog. Not only does this increase the load of tracking complexity for the player (a game design term we use that roughly describes the amount of things a player needs to remember), it would also force us to create a UI that would become cluttered very quickly with all of this information. Swallowception also incentivizes deck-building styles that stack many cards that Swallow, an issue that will only become amplified in the future as we add more cards that swallow, therefore limiting our Swallow design space. This is the reason we're no longer allowing things to swallow creatures that already have something in their belly. Monthly Cup XIII: $3300 in prizes It's time for lucky 13!

We're excited to announce that Faeria’s first expansion, the Adventure Pouch: Oversky is now available - starting today! A unique Co-op experience The beginning: The Emperor’s Daily Challenges Your journey into the Oversky will start with the Emperor’s Daily Challenge. It will introduce a first of its kind co-op mode for you to experience! Each day, a new challenge featuring a unique rule for the match will be available to the players who own the Adventure Pouch: Oversky. As you know, the Emperor’s Daily Challenges (also known as the Limited Boss Battle) are just a part of the Oversky expansion and will be introducing you to our new co-op mode. Invite a friend and battle the mighty, greedy Emperor of Mirnast himself: Kaios. Every day Kaios will have a new challenge for you to overcome. The first time you defeat him each day earns a lot of points for your Adventure Pouch! The Emperor's Cosmetic Set By earning points for your Adventure Pouch, you can obtain an exclusive set of cosmetics featuring Emperor Kaios. The voice of the Emperor We're happy to have partnered with Team Four Star to bring life to Emperor Kaios. Emperor Kaios' sinister voice is provided by the equally sinister Ben Creighton. If you earn the Emperor's avatar from the Adventure Pouch, you'll be able to use the first ever emotes in Faeria with voice acting! The Co-op campaign: Islands of the Oversky and 33 new cards We will be releasing the islands of the Oversky every Tuesday, starting next week! Each island will come with its own unique set of cards.
How does Co-op mode work? When you enter co-op mode you will see a new board layout with three orbs on the field. Your ally’s orb is always to the right of yours. Hover over your ally’s orb at any time to see their current Faeria, hand size, and land amounts. You and your ally share a life total! Any damage you or your ally takes is delivered to both of you at the same time, so make sure to protect your friends. Each player takes one turn as normal. You will notice that your ally’s lands have a new shade of color applied to them. You may not place units on your ally’s lands or build off of them. For the Emperor’s Challenge, you must invite a friend to participate. Further adventures in the Oversky will allow you to choose an NPC ally. Where can I get my Adventure Pouch: Oversky? If you’ve pre-ordered it already, you’ll find it waiting for you on the main menu next to Sharra. Otherwise you have the option to purchase it in gems as part of the Pioneer or Supporter bundle. What does the Adventure Pouch do? The Adventure Pouch is a special item you can obtain to help you explore the Oversky, of which the islands will become available starting next week. It will level up based on daily activities you participate in, and award you various special cosmetics, gold, gems, and chests. It also allows you to participate in the limited time, co-op only Emperor’s Challenge, also known as the Limited Boss Battle. How long is the Adventure Pouch open for? The Adventure Pouch and Limited Boss Battle will be open for two months, starting today. It officially closes on Monday Oct. 9th, at 23:59 CEST. For more comprehensive information about the Adventure Pouch and all of the Oversky, please read the following FAQ: Ulani’s Medallion: A new Pandora treasure Ulani’s Medallion is a brand new treasure that is making its way to Pandora - starting today! Use it to transform all of your creatures into a base copy of your target. You may recognize this dangling trinket from the War Effort. With your efforts combined, you helped power up this special medallion, highly treasured and sought after by Fugoro. Balance change
About Oakling: We’ve had our eyes on the current state of the game after the last set of balance changes, and believe it’s important for us to step in and correct a problem that has emerged with decks that tend to buff haste creatures in hand and win in one single, explosive turn. We recognize there are a few ways to approach a solution to this problem and appreciate everyone’s feedback on the matter. We believe targeting Oakling with this change will still allow it to be a very powerful card with Feed the Forest, but not necessarily in a deck stacked with Haste creatures generally found outside of Green, and give us more comfortable room in our design space. Season Reset and the Monthly Cup All of today’s coincides with this month’s season reset, meaning the next Monthly Cup is this coming weekend. Tune in this Saturday to FaeriaTV to watch the Monthly Cup and catch a new batch of Oversky card reveals, and dip into the first islands next Tuesday. We hope you’re excited for a summer brightened by the Oversky!

It's time you meet the Rakoa, a race native to the islands of the Oversky. Don't forget - season reset is this coming Monday! Also, we give a fond farewell to Dan. And of course... seasonal card backs! Here you see Ranked card backs on the left, and Pandora on the right. Farewell to Dan We'd like to wish a fond farewell to one of our game designers who will be leaving us next week. Dan Felder has been with Abrakam for more than 2 years now, and has helped shaped much of the world in Faeria that you have come to know and love. Not only has he designed many of the cards you're familiar with, but he's constructed many of Jalmyr's puzzles, World Bosses, characters, and other quests. Dan will be moving back to America to work on Hearthstone with Blizzard, and we wish him the very best - we know he'll be a fantastic addition to their team! Dan wanted to share a few words with the community on his departure and time with Abrakam: "Hello fellow yak-lovers. Three years ago I met the lead designers on Faeria at a game developer’s conference in California. After bonding over our shared love of card games, they offered me a key to Faeria’s beta. I immediately fell in love with the game, and started sending endless suggestions for tweaking the card base and mechanics. Not ready to wait for digital updates, I cut out a paper prototype and printed the new designs on cards for physical playtesting. Here’s a picture of a few cards from those early prototypes...." Hey look, it's Unlikely Hero! Monthly Cup XIII qualifications Schedule for this weekend:

We are implementing a set of balance changes today. We'd also like to officially share the Oversky cards that were revealed during the Monthly Cup last Saturday and explain a little more about the new incoming Wild mechanic.
Aurora, Myth Maker
Khalim, Sky Prodigy
Ruunin, the Relentless
Ruunin will follow suit in order to keep our Star Legends' land requirements uniform, but will be given a discount in Faeria. Ruunin does not tend to suffer from the issues of the other legends, and we'd like to see her continue to be a viable card in some decks. Movement tricks Prophet of Tides
Sagami Grovecaller
While Prophet of Tides receives a more robust redesign, we only deepen the color requirement of Grovecaller. These two cards are being adjusted for many of the reasons mentioned above regarding early-game pressure and seemingly unpreventable swings in tempo. We recognize this changes the flavor of Prophet of Tides by quite a lot, and we will of course be observing the effects of such an adjustment, Miscellaneous Crumbling Golem
Shaytan Monstrosity
While Crumbling Golem has made only a recent appearance in ladder meta, we'd like to open the door for its inclusion in the Angry Red archetype which has fallen out of favor for quite some time. The nature of Crumbling Golem's design allows for counterplay with a wide variety of cards, and generally discourages such a creature from being used in control decks. We want to see if this will allow a push for a stronger Red archetype to emerge that can allow certain Rush decks to have a higher representation in the meta in general. Shaytan Monstrosity is another card that we've had a lot of time to analyze after its most recent change, and we're confident that it's safe to push this card into a much higher power level. We believe the gameplay that Monstrosity provides is generally exciting and satisfying, and want more players to be able to experiment with decks that are constructed around taking advantage of this unique card. Needless to say, with every balance change we monitor the results very closely and will make any adjustments as necessary in the future. We also recognize there are a lot of balance suggestions from our community that may be seemingly ignored in this patch. While we cannot address every single one of these concerns, we appreciate your feedback and do earnestly take it into consideration with every wave of changes we make. In the case of this patch, our focus is mostly on the early game and how we can alleviate some of the heavy pressures felt before players are sometimes unable to develop an appropriate answer. The first look into the Oversky In case you missed it during last Saturday's Monthly Cup stream, we explored the first four cards in the Oversky expansion coming this summer. Here they are: For a closeup on each of these cards, click the following: Wild lands The Oversky will introduce a new type of land requirement: Wild. Wild land requirements can be satisfied by possessing any one of the four existing special lands: Mountain, Lake, Desert, or Forest. Intrepid Explorer and Yakkapult are two examples of cards that feature Wild land requirements. Our aim in adding Wild lands to Faeria is to promote and encourage new styles of multi-color deck building never before possible. Here are some answers to some initial questions you may have about Wild lands: "If a card costs one Forest and one Wild land, will having one Forest satisfy both requirements?"- No. Wild land requirements will be in addition to any other special land requirement a card might have. In this case, you would need one Forest and one of any other special land (the additional special land could be a second Forest). "Do creatures that require only Wild lands need to be summoned on a special land?"- No. Wild land costs do not influence casting zones for creatures. "Does Punishment deal 5 damage to creatures that only cost Wild lands?"- Yes. Creatures that only cost Wild lands are considered Neutral. For this same reason, Wild land cards would not be drawn by cards that generate cards of any specific color, such as Spellwhirl. When is Oversky releasing? This, of course, is the number one question players tend to ask about this summer's expansion. While we're not ready to reveal an exact date at this time, know that we're working very hard at getting it ready as soon as possible and will be sure to let you know a date when we're sure it's ready. As a repeat of the disclaimer from this weekend, the cards we've revealed above are still subject to ongoing internal testing and may reach live servers with slight tweaks if deemed necessary. In the meantime, expect a few more teasers headed your way to wet your appetite.

A year of Monthly Cups is about to pass, and we're celebrating by revealing the first ever cards from the Oversky.
To celebrate ONE YEAR of Monthly Cups, we'll be revealing the first Oversky cards exclusively on our tournament stream. The Monthly Cup is a single elimination monthly competition where 32 of the best Faeria players from all over the world compete for $3300 in prizes. Each match consists of a Best of 5 series of games in Pantheon format. Watch, cheer, and win. You can earn prizes just by watching the stream. How to win prizes The most important thing you need to know in order to win prizes while watching the Monthly Cup stream is to link your Faeria account directly to Twitch by using The Hub. We've made it as easy as possible for you. Please note, if you have ever changed your Twitch display name after linking your accounts, you MUST unlink your accounts then RELINK them, or you will receive no prizes. Changing your Twitch username breaks the linking process. The prize structure is as follows: (Remember, each is a CHANCE to win) You are able to view your Egg Timer at any moment by looking at your profile on The Hub. Egg hatching As with every other Monthly Cup, Eggs will be hatching the entire weekend. There are 8 total hatchlings you can potentially get. After that, your Eggs won't hatch. It's possible to hatch more than one Egg in the same weekend. If you're logged into Faeria during the hatching period, your Eggs are even more likely to hatch. Here is all the information concerning the Egg and Egg hatching event Balance patch coming Our goal is to push a balance patch early next week, after the Monthly Cup is complete. Heads up! Game design contest To our delight, we've had a lot of activity on our Game Design Contest posted earlier this week. To clear up some confusion, this contest is not just for retrieving feedback or game suggestions. We use our normal channels of feedback for this. We're hoping to select and hire applicants directly from their submissions to this form. Please keep that in mind when making a submission. Submissions close on the 11th of July 2017 at 11:59PM CEST. Survive the Forest of Trials, meet Raizeon's revenge, and confront the master of puzzles himself. The final set of World Bosses have arrived!
If you’re able to defeat these bosses, you can place the final gem in your Orb of Champions and show your achievement off to the world. Why World Bosses? Simply put, we wanted to add long term goals to PvE progression. If you’re a Battle mode player you can climb for God Rank. If you’re a Pandora player you can collect hundreds of Pandora Points. If you’re a PvE mission player you can now work to unlock and defeat all the world bosses. We had to ask ourselves a question: "What would World Bosses be?" They would be epic foes with terrifying powers, seeming incredibly unfair and impossible to defeat. The player would be challenged to figure out their weaknesses, perhaps even turning their own strengths against them, and claim a well deserved victory. At first, World Bosses were designed only as end game goals. The first one wasn’t going to even unlock until level 60. We ultimately extended the World Boss feature to be something everyone could enjoy from early levels, but this should give you an idea of the madness that lies in store. The three bosses we release today were first designed over one year ago. They were the original three world bosses we used to test the concept. At last, you’ll get to experience what our co-workers did when we innocently asked them to playtest these punishing missions. World Bosses not only allow us to introduce some challenging new scenarios, but we’ve also set up the infrastructure for Oversky campaigns in the process. As we’ve said before, building these missions has created an important foundation from which to build from. Jalmyr We’d like to pay special attention to our final boss. You’ve solved his puzzles. You’ve learned his tricks. Now it’s time to face your mentor. Jalmyr’s mechanics are a puzzle all their own, giving him extraordinary advantages that you’ll need to expertly navigate. It’s likely you won’t even see everything he can do on your first few attempts. Don’t lose heart. We’ve beaten him multiple times with various decks. You can indeed triumph over this absurd opponent. While we would never give mythic cards an advantage in PvP games, we really like how it provides an added bonus to collecting Faeria’s premium cards for the final boss. This also means that if you’re having trouble taking Jalmyr down, you can do the equivalent of grinding a bit in an RPG to craft a few more mythic cards for that added edge. We want to stress that this final mission, while it does give you an advantage for using mythic cards, does not require you to have the majority of your deck be mythic. A small number of commons should be all you need, though any extra you happen to have will be a tremendous boon. The Triple Challenge These three bosses were originally designed to be played back to back with the same deck! We ultimately removed that requirement, but no one’s stopping you from challenging yourself. We’re looking forward to seeing who can manage this wild feat first. Season ending Our Ranked and Pandora seasons reset on the first Monday of each month. This coming reset happens to be July 3rd! Season reset: Monday, July 3rd, 12pm (Noon) CEST Season number standardization We’ve updated two previous blog posts in an effort to standardize season numbers with listed in-game card backs. Since we’ve had a few extra seasons in Early Access, season numbers will never necessarily line up with Monthly Cup numbers. To clarify things, this makes the current season that is ending on Monday number “14”. Monthly Cup XII qualifications Schedule for this weekend:
Monthly Cup XII takes place Saturday, July 8th at 16:00 CEST. Remember, if you don't see your favorite player on the list, you need only type their name in the search box to find them. Spot Lethal #12 A brand new Spot Lethal has been posted by J0k3se. While the solution itself isn't incredibly complicated, getting there is the hard part. Can you beat the pros? Watch it here! Look, YouTube user ApiolJoe found it in 5 seconds!!! Metashaker deck contest results Bobrokrot's latest deck building contest has ended, and a new one has already begun! Three brand new World Bosses await you. Brave your way through the Howling Desert, witness The Forge of Creation, and confront the Dark Wisp itself.
Fair warning: While some players have been calling the previous World Bosses too easy, the confrontation with the powerful Dark Wisp is our answer. In fact, all three of these missions are quite a challenge. As the level requirements to unlock them go up, so too does the difficulty, by design. Regarding the Dark Wisp specifically, you'll want to keep an open mind. If the first deck you use doesn't seem to be working out well, try some other strategies. Or... you know... just lose your soul. If that still isn't enough for you, next Friday we'll be unleashing the final three World Bosses, the last of which requires you to be all the way to level 100. Be prepared. Steam Summer Sale Faeria's Steam Pack is part of the Steam Summer Sale! Note: You can only purchase the Steam Pack once per account. If you already own Goki, you will instantly receive the 5000 Gold upon purchase and extend the duration of you current Gold Miner by an extra 30 days. We hope you enjoy these new challenges. We're very pleased most players seem to enjoy this content as we work up to the Oversky's release this summer. Next Friday, we'll be giving you even more bosses. June Season's Card backs Take a look at the card backs you can battle for this month. They're here! The first of our World Bosses have arrived, and they're bringing with them even more.
These mighty challenges should give you a sufficient taste for what is still to come. World Bosses will be accessible via a new in-game map screen you'll find in the single player area. Wild Mission Packs In conjunction with World Bosses, we're releasing what we're calling Wild Mission Packs. The basic idea behind Wild Mission Packs is to provide an indefinite source of single player content for players who prefer to play solo, or to increase their levels in order to meet the next World Boss. Whenever you finish the last mission of the last normal Mission Pack in any lane, that lane will now get filled with a brand new Wild Mission Pack. Each Wild Mission Pack is composed of 7 randomly selected missions. These missions are designed to provide heavy amounts of experience, and a new solo objective will appear that rewards you one Battle Chest for every two Wild Mission Packs you complete. This objective will reappear indefinitely. Each Wild Mission Pack will cost 500 gold or 100 gems, meaning that purchasing and completing two of them will reward you with not only a Battle Chest worth 1000 gold, but all of the extra experience gained from each mission and the gold provided from leveling up. Wild Mission packs are yet another way we hope to satisfy the clear need many players are expressing for more single player content, and we hope you enjoy them. Rewards Changes Together with the introduction of the World Bosses, which will be providing an extra 6,000 Gold total, we are applying a few changes to some of the current rewards in order to balance the overall rewards experience. The following changes are being applied:
Balance changes As always, we keep a close eye on the general state of the game and the balance between all colors, at all levels of play. After releasing six new cards near the middle of last month, we knew it was important to observe their effects and see how players learn to best use these new tools. Our internal balance analysis takes into account the results of games played on live servers, player feedback, and of course high level tournament play. We read, hear, and watch it all. In the end, it helps us reach a decision we can move forward with. At this time, being so close to the running of another highly competitive Monthly Cup, we're not comfortable making any wide, sweeping changes - but we do want to place the game in a state where we feel we can pull more valuable information. Sometimes there is one card that may be so clearly out of line that it can make further judgement calls murky without knowing the results of the state of the game after toning it down a little. We believe, at this time, that card is Triton Trainer. Introduced not so long ago, it has enabled an exciting new deck archetype for Blue that takes advantage of its many Jump creatures. Obviously when designing this card we wanted to encourage this style of deck as playing with high mobility creatures is generally a fun experience. However, it's currently performing way above where we think it should be, at all levels of play. Therefore, we are implementing the following change today: Triton Trainer
These changes should still place Triton Trainer in a desirable place for some styles of Blue decks, but make it a little easier to answer without placing quite so much health value on the field. Reworking Triton Trainer as "attack-boost-only" exposes Blue's smaller creatures to the standard removal that can normally roast the little suckers mid-leap. Lowering the Trainer itself to a 3/2 also exposes it to both 2 damage and 3 damage removal, meaning it will now be vulnerable, for example, to the punishing removal of Seifer's Wrath, Soul Drain, and the new Deepwood Stalker. Once again, we want to be clear that we have our eye on a lot in the game at this time, but we'd like to take things a bit slowly as we fine-tune the existing card base. Faeria is an incredibly complex game, and changing just one cog in its intricate machinery can have wild and unexpected results. We believe that with this change we will be able to make a much more informed decision about what the next steps may be for future balance changes before our first expansion this summer. Cosmetic items Tarum's Cosmetic set is now available for purchase in the shop. Tarum's Orb, Avatar, Well and Card Back are also now lootable in Mythic Chests. Bug fixes

Important news! This season's reset will be occurring on Tuesday, not Monday. Read more below. We apologize for not determining this sooner, but we have no choice but to shift to this schedule. This is the first time we've ever had to change this, and we don't plan on doing it again. We hope you enjoy your extra day of laddering! Adventure Pouch Mythic Chests As you may remember, we promised a free Mythic Chest to everyone who participated in the War Effort after the Adventure Pouch pre-order period is over, which happened yesterday. This is still the case! However, to prevent a lot of potential support issues, we're waiting until we can fix a slight bug that displays all items specially rewarded to accounts this way as "purchase complete." People often wonder what purchase they've made and why they are receiving this strange item. We'll soon be able to list more descriptive text that will prevent confusion and explain more clearly where your bonus item came from. Thanks for your patience. Chrome Extension by Tidwell Community architect Tidwell has put together a useful Chrome Extension that will allow you to see card popups from Faeria on our blog, and more. That way, any time the words Krog, The Ogre King are typed - you see him in his full glory. Monthly Cup XI qualifications Even though the season reset will be happening one day later, the Monthly Cup is still on schedule as normal. Monthly Cup XI takes place Saturday, June 10th at 16:00 CEST. We already have both qualifiers completed, which leaves us only with community voting and ladder placements remaining. Schedule for this weekend:
Voting: Remember, if you don't see your favorite player on the list, you need only type their name in the search box to find them. Deals of the Week You'll find these new items in the in-game store, starting today: Decks of the Week

It's time to reveal this season's card backs! Let's also put the spotlight on Faeria Team League, one of the newest regular community events. Watching a team competition is a special treat in Faeria. You can watch the next match between Addicted and Equilibrium this weekend here: If you're interested in joining a team yourself, you need only reach out to one of their members in our Discord channel, which is a major center of community activity. Faeria Team League was created and organized by Sweety, whom you may recognize from several competitive Monthly Cups. Faeria Android full release is in its first stages In case you missed it, the Android release of Faeria is now in its early stages. We're confident that our Canadian users will lead us on the path to a wider release as soon as practical. Mac issues resolved Today we resolved an issue some Mac users were experiencing that could potentially make them unable to play. The new version has already been pushed to Steam and should contain the necessary bug fixes. Thanks for being patient as we worked on this fix. Remember, to verify your current version of Faeria, follow these instructions. Deals of the Week You'll find these new items in the in-game store, starting today: Decks of the Week

After releasing six brand new cards this week, we send our office yaks on a critical mission. Don't forget, Monthly Cup qualifier tomorrow! When will the Plush Yak Pillows arrive at my door? If you've ordered the Collector's Pouch, your plushie will ship within 3 to 4 weeks of when the Adventure Pouch launches this summer. While having them walk to your door would save on shipping, we're going to use more conventional means in order to ensure they arrive in one piece. Cards a'plenty The big news is of course that earlier this week we added six new cards to the game, and made Faeria Steam trading cards available for the first time ever. Today we've completed adding the new cards to The Hub deckbuilder - so go hog wild. Steam Pack Don't forget, there are only 3 days left on the Steam Pack sale! Last call for this special deal on Goki, an exclusive card back, gems, Mythic Chests, and Battle Chests. Monthly Cup XI qualifier It's hard to believe it, but it's already time for the next MC qualifier! It's almost as if these things happen every month. Remember, if you're put on the waiting list you still have a high chance of making it in the tournament as long as you check in beforehand. If you've never competed in a Monthly Cup tournament before, read this guide on how it works. Keep an eye on Faeria streams this Saturday to see who might be commentating on qualifier games! Deals of the Week You'll find these new items in the in-game store, starting today: Decks of the Week Note, the six new cards added this week have only just been added to the Hub today, so expect more decks with those cards to come pouring in soon.

We have six special surprises coming for you next week, and we think they'll make you happy.
We think these points have merit and are in line with our own observations. We're happy to announce that next week we'll be addressing both of these issues at the same time. Beauty is power; a smile is its sword With the Adventure Pouch on its way this summer and World Bosses coming even sooner, we know there are still a lot of you anxious for even more. When we know players want something, we do our best to deliver. Therefore, we have prepared six brand new epic cards that are ready to be introduced to Faeria next week. These epic additions will contain powerful new tools that should open up an even wider variety of deck building options and introduce some "out of the box" style designs we think you'll appreciate. Let us begin with a teasing of what is to come: Behold: Iona's Smile. Symphonies have been written about less. Hmmm... something went wrong. The image went all blurry. What does it say? Keep an eye on our social media channels throughout the weekend as we share even more. These six new cards will be considered part of the core collection and not part of the Oversky expansion. Putting Krog in his place As mentioned above, we've heard a lot of players having difficulties dealing with Krog. He can be especially frustrating to deal with after being hit by an early Ogre Dance, sending his massive form into a series of devastating undulations that can simply snowball out of control. Without an early answer, many players are left with a sour feeling in their gut as they're forced to watch Krog devour their helpless forces, one by one. We have no choice but to attempt to keep him under control with a strict nerf, which we've scheduled for next week. Hopefully this will help to curb his overwhelming presence in play, but further changes may be needed after more observation. Mobile Early Access patch Earlier today we pushed some fixes to our mobile version that many of you are currently testing. We can't thank you enough for your valued feedback and bug reporting. Steam Pack: 40% discount next week On May 16th next week, the Steam Pack will be discounted by 40% off for an entire week. It will be available at the following price for a limited time:
As a reminder, the Steam Pack contains the following rewards:
Note: You can only purchase the Steam Pack once per account. If you already own Goki, you will instantly receive the 5000 Gold upon purchase and extend the duration of you current Gold Miner by an extra 30 days. Fancy a sneak peek of where we are at with the mobile version of Faeria? You've come to the right place.
The Early Access will be available until May 15th and will then be shut down to allow our team to focus on the improvements and fixes needed to craft the perfect mobile experience for Faeria. Testing Faeria on iPhones In order to access Faeria on iPhone, we will need to manually add every tester in a specific group within TestFlight. Let's talk a bit about why we introduced Single Player Pandora, and announce a couple slight changes to the Monthly Cup.
New Timebank values:
The idea, as always, is to keep tournaments moving as quickly as reasonably possible yet still allow plenty of time for players to make the difficult decisions in-game that are so closely tied with high level Faeria play. Fourth place prize, bounty adjustment For a long time we've been hearing requests from our competitive players to provide some sort of prize for 4th place. We agree that finishing that high deserves some sort of reward, as reaching the top four in any Monthly Cup is an impressive accomplishment. With that in mind, we will be taking the suggestion of lowering Krog's Bounty award from $150 to $100, then redistributing it to the 4th place finisher - who will now receive $100. In other words, prizes will be redistributed as follows:
The total amount of prizes available remains at $3300. This will go into effect for all future Monthly Cups. Thanks for all your feedback! Monthly Cup X Qualifiers Speaking of the Monthly Cup: The first qualifiers for Monthly Cup X begin tomorrow, April 22nd! Remember, even if there is a waiting list, only those players who are checked in will compete. If you sign up and show up, you'll likely still have a spot. With Monthly Cup IX just behind us, we have a lot of news to catch up on. This Faeria Friday should wrap all current events up in a neat little bun for you.
Riddle status With over 210,000,000 gold already gathered, the current status of the next Adventure Pouch reveal looks a little something like this: Have an idea what it might be? I'm pretty sure the answer is "I love beetroot of a decarbonated toad. My self will be arachnid." But what does it mean... I'm not the greatest puzzle solver though, so: How to choose your Yak After last week's newest Adventure Pouch reveal, we noticed a bit of confusion on how to go about choosing your special Yak Avatar if you've already purchased the pouch. Weekend Tournaments That's it. Have a good weekend! Flow like a river, strike like the wind. |
This week, we are happy to bring you a big update including the addition of a Single Player Pandora mode, new languages, performance improvements and last but not least Android Tablet Early Access!
Single Player runs have a reduced set of rewards compared to Multi Player, due to the inherently lower difficulty. This solo mode is intended to provide a way for non-competitive players to enjoy Pandora and increase their collection without facing competitive opponents. Performing well should be worth the time investment compared to just buying packs outright. Note The Pandora solo is currently only available on PC, Linux, Mac computers and Android Early Access. The Pandora solo will be available on iPad tablets later this month. Due to a bug, Pandora PvP games that were started prior to the update will be finished in PvE mode. Therefore, your rewards will have been reduced. To those affected, we are sending:
In addition to this, Pandora Single player is not currently awarding experience per game as intended, This will be fixed tomorrow. Android tablet Early Access As we've mentioned previously, Android support has been one of our major focuses since the release of version 1.0. With such a large number of community requests that we have received to test it, we are happy to make Faeria available later in the day through the Play Store's Early Access feature. The current Android version of Faeria will be available for Tablets with Android 6+ (Marshmallow). We are looking at expanding this as we go and we are looking forward to your feedback. You will be able to enroll for Faeria's Android Early Access here Please note that the Early Access version of Faeria on Android tablets will be available between 4pm and 5pm CEST today. Android tablet propagation may take up to 24 hours of propagation in different regions/different devices Android known issue During a purchase, the Google Play Store window will pop-up. If the player isn't fast enough, they will be disconnected from the server but the purchase will be completed. They will receive what was purchased as soon as they start the app again. New languages Faeria is already available in 7 languages including English, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Russian and Spanish. In today's update, we are also bringing Faeria to more languages:
With these additions, we are now supporting a total of 10 languages with more to come! We would like to thank our hard working community translators for the help provided in the process: Gravekper, uwlryoung, anatomic, ASML, weipeng, HAHATTAN, Ceyropaiax, YAAP, Naix, iya, Arrotanis and Ascalodon! Fixes and improvements
Egg update While we're at it, we wanted to give everyone a follow-up on what we've fixed since last Saturday's Monthly Cup regarding the free stream reward issues that some users experienced.
We've sent everyone who was affected an email explaining all of this. In addition, to ensure everyone had a chance to hatch their eggs in time, we will be activating a special hatching event this coming Thursday, where your current Egg will be hatching. Sorry for any trouble! Also, we'll be increasing the expiration date of existing Egg coupon from long ago some time this week before that hatching event. One last thing we'd like to note is that if you ever change your Twitch username, you will need to unbind your account on The Hub, then rebind it - otherwise your account will not be properly linked. |
The next Adventure Pouch reveal is upon us, and it's pretty cute. And don't forget - The Monthly Cup is tomorrow!
Supporter Pouch and Collector Pouch
If you've purchased a Pouch already, you can adopt your Yak right now by going here. Adventure Pouch Reveal #3 With that out of the way, it's time we dive head first into the next and last reveal. It's the last leg for the Adventure Pouch riddle fiesta, this time around, you'll need to collect a whopping 750,000,000 Gold to unlock all the letters of our final riddle. Get the Adventure Pouch today! Adventure Pouch timing clarification On a side note, we have noticed that some players are under the impression that the Adventure Pouch will be released in mid-May. We would like to remind everyone that the date we have always communicated is Summer 2017, not mid-May (although pre-orders do end on May 9th). You guys are silly sometimes. Monthly Cup IX: $3300 in prizes The first Monthly Cup since Faeria's release takes place tomorrow: Saturday, April 8th at 4:00pm CEST. Aquablad, skorch13, Cappuccino, Xologrim, and Atmaz will be your hosts during the event, walking you carefully through the gauntlet of extremely high level games and shower of crushed eggshells. Watch, cheer, and win. Many of you new players may be wondering: "What is the Monthly Cup?" The Monthly Cup is a single elimination monthly competition where 32 of the best players in Faeria compete for $3300 in prizes. Each match consists of a Best of 5 series of games in Pantheon format. But best of all... you can earn prizes just by watching on FaeriaTV! How to win prizes The most important thing you need to know in order to win prizes while watching the Monthly Cup stream is to link your Faeria account directly to Twitch by using The Hub. We've made it as easy as possible for you. Prizes for the Monthly Cup have been updated to contain the possibility to win Mythic Chests! The new prize structure is as follows: Watch this long for a chance to win:
Dragon Orbs have been replaced by Mythic Chests in the new available prizes, but are still obtainable by players who win games in the Monthly Cup itself. And now, due to popular demand, you will be able to view your Egg Timer at any moment by looking at your profile on The Hub. No more wondering if it's working correctly! You'll know for sure. Egg hatching As with every other Monthly Cup, Eggs will be hatching the entire weekend. This time, however, the yolks have multiplied. There are five brand new avatars your Eggs may hatch into, bringing the grand total of potential hatchlings to eight. Yes, even King Yaknus will be a possible hatchling, as was his royal decree. The Cynical Yak will only be available through Egg hatching, and not through Adventure Pouch selection. It's possible to hatch more than one Egg in the same weekend. If you're logged into Faeria during the hatching period, your Eggs are even more likely to hatch. Make sure you watch out for which new Yak avatar you'll be getting when the Egg hatching ends! Here is all the information concerning Egg and Egg hatching event DeviantArt Contest voting Submissions for the card creation contest close at 11:59pm CEST today. Remaining submissions will be posted as the contest closes, so make sure to check back after midnight to catch any last-minute entries. Your "likes" count as votes, and you can vote for as many as you like. Winners will be discussed on the Monthly Cup stream. New shop rotation As always in our Faeria Fridays, it's time to announce which cosmetic items will be in the new week's shop rotation, starting today. Here they are. Join the DeviantArt community in a card creation contest! Don't forget, the current season ends this Monday, Let's talk about it. The community's DeviantArt page is running a card creation contest over the next week. Submit your best work and have it featured during the Monthly Cup stream next Saturday. A winner for each color category will be chosen, and will receive:
We'll open voting next Friday on our forums just before the cup begins, so all entries can be judged at once. Player levels We would like to let it be known that the fact levels are showing in the versus screen is indeed a bug that was introduced in the latest patch. Levels being displayed in the friends list is intentional, but in-game during matchmaking is not. This one slipped by us, and we apologize. It will be fixed on the next client update. Reveal #2 Solve the next Adventure Pouch hint yet? The more gold you earn in game, the faster the bar fills and reveals more letters. Some riddle sleuths are on the case over in this Reddit thread. Think they're right? The Hub loading screen It's gone! We've removed the "loading bar" from The Hub that many players were complaining was too slow. We hope this improves your general Hubbing experience. Pocket Tactics: Faeria 101 If you haven't noticed yet, the folks over at Pocket Tactics have been publishing weekly "Faeria 101" guides. Check it out, and keep an eye out for more. New store rotation As we mentioned last Friday, our plan is to rotate the in-game shop "Deals of the Week" every Friday and post them here for you to see. Here you go! Season’s end The first official season since Faeria's release is about to come to a close. Our Ranked and Pandora seasons reset on the first Monday of each month. This means: Season reset: April 3rd, 12pm (Noon) CEST Monthly Cup qualifications For those of you who are new to how Monthly Cup qualifications work, let's break it down. First, here's the schedule for this weekend:
We already have 16 qualified players from the two qualifiers played earlier this month, and the top 4 from the previous cup. For a 32 player tournament, that leaves us with 12 more to go. Voting: Two of those are selected by community voting. Yes, you! Remember, if you don't see your favorite player on the list, you need only type their name in the search box to find them. Top 10 Gods: The remaining 10 players come directly from the top of the ladder. Once ladder positions are locked on Monday, the ladder reset occurs shortly thereafter, and we assemble our 32 players that will compete in the Monthly Cup on April 8th, where Eggs will blacken the sky. We're applying a patch today that contains small balance changes, some significant changes to our reward system, and some updates regarding supported iPad devices and GBP pricing.
We hope you like the changes we've made to our progression system today, and would like to thank you for all of your feedback since the latest version was released. As always, we'll continue listening. iPad supported devices adjustment Effective on Wednesday, March 29th, we will be locking the iPad version to iOS10 and higher only. After much deliberation and development consideration, this is the only way to prevent the huge amount of crashes that people are experiencing with low-tier iPads. We do not want to provide a product that does not operate to our standards of functionality, and it appears there is no other path for us forward in older iPad models. It's a difficult decision for us to make, but we hope you understand. Our goal is to have Faeria available on as many devices as possible, but we are forced to draw the line at hardware that simply cannot support the game without experiencing frustrating crashes. As always, we continue to look for more ways to optimize Faeria for those devices that do support it, and only look at improving performance for the future. GBP price balancing We do our best to continually keep our prices even across the board to all regions, countries and platform, regardless of the currency used. From time to time, this requires us to change prices in order to match the value of different currencies from region to region to maintain balance and fairness. In light of the GBP (British Pound) fluctuation, that seems to stabilise now, both Apple and Google have adapted their automated GBP pricing in order to reflect those changes. In order for us to keep our cross-platform experience as fair as possible, we are now applying the same changes. Pricing changes
Our goal is never to increase prices from the model we have set, but only to maintain the equality across all regions. We aim to be as transparent as possible in all of these changes and hope you understand. Balance Changes We are also applying the following changes: Doomsday
Failed Experiment
Stormspawn
Windfall
Lord of Terror
If you want to learn more about those changes, a designer's note can be found here. Fixes and improvements

The War Effort is nearly fully funded. Troops are standing by. Brace yourselves.
Some of you may have watched our Monthly Cup events on our channel before, but this time things will be a little different. Introducing: Eggbot 2.0 We have rebuilt it. We have made it better than it was before. Better, stronger, harder boiled. What is Eggbot? Eggbot is the loyal robot we use to distribute prizes to viewers on our Twitch channel during special events. Previously, these prizes have been awarded via email after linking your Twitch account to Steam. Eggbot 2.0 scoffs at the idea of using primitive emails. Eggbot 2.0 will deliver your stream prizes directly to you in game with its ultimate power. Why is it called Eggbot? Among the prizes it distributes are precious Eggs. These Eggs eventually hatch into something magnificent when the Monthly Cup rolls around. What do Eggs hatch into? Well, you may have seen a few of the results before, but this time they'll have a chance to hatch into something brand new. What could they be? You'll have to tune into the stream tomorrow to find out. New method of linking your Twitch and Faeria accounts This is now made easier as well. From now on, you'll be able to link your Twitch and Faeria account on your user profile page on The Hub at: Remember, to receive any prizes from watching the stream, you must have your Twitch and Faeria accounts linked this way. Stream prizes for tomorrow During tomorrow's special event, Eggbot 2.0 will set out on its maiden voyage to deliver unto you the following fabulous prizes. Watch for the minimum amount of time for each prize and get a chance to win it every 30 minutes. You can only win one of each prize.
To be clear, Eggs will not be hatching during the stream tomorrow - but you'll be able to pick one up if you don't have one already. Then you can sit on it to keep it warm until the next Monthly Cup. If you already have an Egg avatar, Eggbot will force itself to send you an Egg coupon via email that you can use at a later date. App Store issues Due to technical issues with the latest Faeria version on the App Store, we have temporarily removed it from available downloads. If you already have Faeria on your iPad, this will not affect you. However, new players will not be able to download Faeria from the App Store until we fix this issue, which is expected to be resolved tomorrow. We apologize for this brief inconvenience, and are working on bringing it back as soon as we can. Steam Pack discount ends tomorrow In unrelated news, don't forget to buy the Steam Pack before the sale ends tomorrow! Remember, when you purchase the Steam Pack it is applied to the Steam account you purchased it with. You cannot transfer it to another account, just like any other Steam game or DLC, so be sure to be logged in with the main Steam account you plan to play Faeria on.

Let's talk about some of the reasons behind the new reward system. And don't forget, there is a War Effort in progress.
When we weight gold rewards more heavily on raw experience earned, this becomes much less of a problem. Daily Quests are of course an already existing method of alleviating this, but we still wanted to provide even more solutions. Therefore, we introduced the new "Daily Login" reward system. We may not have made this clear, but you don't have to log in every single day in order to ramp up these bonuses. You can take a break for a week and come back, and your next reward will still be waiting for you. Once you fill out the card completely, you'll receive a brand new one. The end result of all these changes is a progression system that is roughly the same speed as before, but redistributed to cater more toward the first hours of play (along with Daily Quests and First Win of the Day bonus, that still exist), as well as not requiring you to win in order to progress as fast as others. Now, we've been hearing feedback on the negative feelings players are having for getting relatively small rewards after each win. Keep in mind, in our patch this morning we corrected a bug that should make the appearances of "10g" much less common. Additionally, we are already discussing ways on which we can make your progress to the next big gold reward much more clear. We still would like to reward players for winning games, but it raises a big flag for us if the rewards we are giving them are producing negative feelings. This is an area we'll have a close eye to in the coming weeks, and thank you for your feedback. The Faeria Academy Nick "Big Daddy Aquablad" Secker has put together an incredible resource for new players on The Hub that are just getting started, and it's called: Each chapter contains detailed breakdowns on exactly what you need to know about each concept, often supported with videos or other articles. If you're looking for a great resource to get started from, look no further.

After a year in Early Access, we are excited to bring Faeria out of beta with our 1.0 launch for PC and iPad! 1.0 Update - Today’s Patch Notes User Experience Improvements
User Interface Updates In Version 0.96 last month we introduced the first part of our new User Interface for both PC and iPad. Today we’ve added the finishing touches and applied some polish. Shop Improvements and Mythic Chests! Mythic Chests We first mentioned the intention to add Mythic Chests last year, and even gave some to a few of you that couldn’t yet be opened. Now they can, and you can even buy more! Mythic Chests are precious vessels that contain a range of cosmetic items as well as Mythic cards, with four objects in each chest. Buying multiple chests at once In the shop, we have restored the ability to buy more than one Battle Chest at a time, and have introduced new behind the scenes functionality which will allow us to offer regular rotations of cosmetic items, special offers and more. Introducing: Goki the Gold Miner Fugoro’s nephew, Goki, is now available for hire from our shop, and he’s eager to mine you some gold. We’ve replaced the Gold Fountain with this little guy, who offers a very similar service! You can hire Goki in the shop for the same price as the old Gold Fountain, and he too will give you an immediate reward of 5000 Gold. Goki will then mine for you each day for 30 days - he guarantees at least 300 Gold each day, and sometimes finds a LOT more! He’s also generally a lot friendlier than the old Gold Fountains, who tended not to say very much. What we don’t know is how he manages to turn the gold he mines into coins so quickly… Those of you who have an active Gold Fountain at the time of this update will have the remainder of their Gold Fountain time accelerated and will be compensated with the amount of Gold you would have received, so you may hire Goki right away if you'd like. Balance changes
Altar of Souls
Derelict Tower
Aurora's Dream
Warstorm Champion is renamed to Crackthorn Beast
Final Illustrations Finally, we complete the replacement of all placeholder art in Faeria, including the implementation of our last remaining multicolor epics. Behold:
iPad, Everywhere! After testing in Belgium and Canada over the past couple of months, along with the help of several hundred community members in our iPad testing program, we are excited to roll-out Faeria for iPad globally, available now in your local App Store! Linux Support While it has been possible to play Faeria on Linux during Early Access, those of you that have tried it will know that it came with its fair share of crashes. Its for that reason that we’ve kept Linux labeled as officially 'unsupported’. However, that’s all changed. As of today you should now enjoy a smooth Faeria experience on Linux. Status change: Fully supported! Localization Improvements With tremendous effort from our community volunteers, we are pleased to apply a wave of localization improvements across the board for all languages. In no way could this have been possible without the help of our dedicated translators. We cannot thank these players enough, and hope you enjoy their improvements in helping make Faeria a global community. Sound and Animation Improvements We’ve implemented a wide variety of small improvements to in-game sound and animation, particularly in regards to combat. Oh, and you may want to keep an ear out for Ignus, Baeru, and the Dragons… Other Changes
Bug fixes What’s Next? Continual Improvements Just because we are leaving Early Access doesn’t mean we’re going to stop listening to the community for the best ways we can improve Faeria. We have big plans for even more new features and content in 2017, and are looking forward to hearing what you, our players, want to see. It goes without saying that we’ll be keeping an eye on bugs and balancing at all times. Coming Soon to Phones! One big thing we are working on is expansion onto more devices: as of today we officially support iPad and Linux players globally, and in the near future we will expand support to Android tablets as well as iPhones and Android phones. What aren’t we telling you yet? Oh, okay. You want more. You can tell we’re holding back. Fine. In addition to Faeria on your phone being right around the corner, we’ve got some really incredible stuff coming your way. We’re just… not quite ready to spill the beans yet. How about instead we mobilize a War Effort. |
Version 1.0 is creeping steadily closer. At the same time, the current ladder seasons are ending, and we'd appreciate your time with a Steam review. This season's card backs: Note: We'd like to apologize, as these card backs will not be made available on the exact date of the ladder reset on Monday. Due to technical roadblocks in the way we have prepared for version 1.0, it would be difficult for us to reward these right away. Don't worry, we will ensure every player receives their appropriate card back once we have the correct window to reward them. Battle of the Gods tournament As mentioned last week, we'll be inviting the top 10 God's from this month's season to a small tournament to take place some time in March. We'll have more info on this for you soon, but we'd like to share the bracket layouts for now! Latest development news We know we've been relatively silent lately as far as development news is concerned, but the reality is that it is crunch time at the Abrakam offices. The team is working very hard to get the game where it needs to be for our 1.0 release, which is currently in its testing phase. What exact date will Faeria release? We know this is the biggest question on everyone's mind. As we've promised before, the release will be in March. We just aren't quite ready to release a date yet. Thank you for your patience. Steam reviews Now that Early Access will soon be over, we hope you've had the time it takes to form a solid opinion on what you think about Faeria. We'd like to humbly ask you to take the time to leave a Steam review today. If you've written one already or don't have the time, simply reading other reviews and marking them as "helpful" can make it easier for new players to find the reviews that players agree are the best. Every bit really does help. Thank you. The Hub Decks of the Month:

Announcing a special tournament for the Top 10 gods of the current season, and a special thank you to those helping us improve our localization. Also, Hub stuff!
And don't forget, making it to the Monthly Cup and winning only one match earns you a Dragon Orb. Quite a task! Localization improvements With the help of a handful of very driven community members, we now have a new system in place for improving in-game localization. We've implemented this just in time to polish things up before we release 1.0, and we're very thankful to those players who are taking time out of their day to help us improve Faeria. Those players we'd like to thank are as follows: Note that we don't plan on having Korean available for release, but Gravekper and our own Korean community have been a driving force in making this happen, so who are we to stop them? Last weekend's Weekender We're happy to say our presence at the PC Gamer Weekender was a great success. People learned a lot about Faeria, and everyone had an all-around good time. We have a very significant update available for you today, and we need your help testing it. Read on for more info.
“As mentioned in a previous update, we have had to conform our prices to meet requirements of the Apple store. After implementing this new economy system, we will be more in control of the prices offered in our store. For instance, last November/December there was a slight price surge in some regions that was outside of our control. We want to avoid things like this as much as possible. Our goal is to keep a solid price consistency across all platforms in order to prevent any favoritism or inequality.” Gems are intended to provide us this with this necessary control.

Eggs are hatching again! Whenever the Monthly Cup rolls around, Eggs just can't handle it: They hatch. While our scientists are still working on figuring out exactly what it is about the Monthly Cup that makes the Eggs hatch, we've put together all the information you need about Eggs in one helpful post. Note that for this specific cup the hatching period will end Noon CET on Sunday, due to technical work we'll be doing over the weekend. Sunday community events With the Monthly Cup on Saturday, both community events will be taking place on Sunday, one right after the other. King of the Hill: Watch two Monthly Cup players square off in a showmatch with commentary. Utoko from Germany takes on lbrande from Sweden. What a special hill this must be to be worth fighting over so often. This week in the Faeria Showdown League, you can vote on the win conditions for each game. This sounds like too much power to me - but we'll see.
Now with The Hub, we'll be able to display these events much more easily without having to mention them in blog posts. If you have an upcoming event of your own, please post it on The Hub so all events are as centralized as possible. The Hub is love. The Hub is life.

We are extremely excited to be introducing our new community website. Our team has been hard at work in order to make it possible for every Faeria player to enjoy sharing their excitement for our game.
Will there be languages featured other than English? At this time, no. However, we will be watching things closely, and if we see a large enough demand for a certain other language we will work at making it available. FaeriaTV Many of you are aware we use the FaeriaTV channel on Twitch for Monthly Cup broadcasts, but we’re looking at ways of expanding this further by utilizing The Hub. We want FaeriaTV to be more active and act as a common area for players to gather, watch, and be engaged. We’ll have more to share on this later. Aquablad on board To help us create exciting and helpful content for Faeria, we have brought on Aquablad (Nick as you may know him) as a new Content and Community Manager. A routine streamer and writer for PlayFaeria.com, Nick will be overseeing content creation on The Hub, as well as helping Gary (Atmaz) manage our ever-growing Faeria community. Here is what Aquablad had to say about The Hub: Nick “Aquablad” Secker “I’m very excited to be a part of Abrakam and to be given the opportunity to be able to represent the community. I’ve been with Faeria for almost a year and I’ve watched both the game and it’s community grow into something wonderful. Being involved in Faeria has been extremely rewarding and I hope my contributions will continue to help players of all levels.” On with the content already! There’s nothing holding you back - you can go and create content right now. There are already a base amount of articles and guides populating The Hub, but it’s hungry for more. Fill it with your delicious brain thoughts. https://www.faeria.com/the-hub Already wrote a guide before The Hub existed? No problem - post it here too! Posting it to The Hub will allow players to find it more easily and rate it if they found it helpful. With a lot of ratings, your posts will gain more exposure and help even more players We’d like to close by giving a very special thanks to the Wedeho and Phenomen studios for their quality work in helping us put The Hub together. It wouldn’t have been possible without them, and now it won’t be possible without you.

Today we hit the big red button on the balance patch, and are preparing for the next season to begin. Read on for more. Posted above are the current season’s unique card backs. Ranked card backs are on the left, Pandora on the right. Weekend timeline Let's breakdown the timeline for this weekend, in regards to the Monthly Cup and season reset.
Vote for your favorite Voting for the current Monthly Cup closes at 23:59 CET on Sunday, February 5th. Remember, if you don't see your favorite player on the list, you need only type their name in the search box to find them. You can click on the info button next to each player's name to see a little more information about them, if available. Ladder positions for the Monthly Cup will be locked in on Monday, February 6th at 12:00pm (Noon) CET, and the ladder resets shortly thereafter. Only two players will be voted in this month, so the race should be tight! Any ties will be settled by ladder positioning. The Monthly Cup itself will take place next Saturday, February 11th. Weekend events On Saturday, this weekend's King of the Hill event puts defending Modgnik against new challenger, Utoko. Will the hill ever know peace? On Sunday, week two of the Faeria Showdown League continues, and this time you can vote on some of the cards they're required to use!
These events will really put these competitive players to the test, having only a very short time after today's patch to prepare. What they come up with should be very interesting, and we look forward to watching it unfold.

You still have over a week to get there! More on the gameplay landscape In our last blog post, we touched heavily on some key aspects of the current state of the game such as the power of rush decks, Slam, and mobility tricks in Green. However, we wanted to make clear that this post was not meant to cover the entire scope of changes we are considering for the next balance patch. When we draft balance patches, we consider the effects each change will have on the whole. Increasing or decreasing power levels in one area can create an issue in another area, or direct the meta into places we generally don’t want to be. It’s not enough to “Nerf Krog” and leave it at that. This can sometimes be why it takes a little extra time to deliver piping hot balance adjustments to the live server, even when we know some of our players are eager for changes. Last week, we seemed to have touched on just about every color except for Blue. This wasn’t really intentional, we just wanted to cover the general state of where we think things stand right now, in broad strokes. One particular card we didn’t mention last week was Forbidden Library. We’d like to make it clear we’ve heard community feedback on this particular card, and are currently testing out several different options for the future of this structure. While we're happy with the general design of Library and the turn-by-turn tension it can create, we recognize the issue it can have in the early game where it can put the opposing player in a very difficult situation. Once again, we generally don't like to put players in positions where they feel helpless - and we're looking at ways to remedy this. Speaking of structures, we’ve been thinking of ways to make them more exciting or useful in general. While we don’t want to say too much right now, there’s a good chance something really interesting may happen to them next patch. As a general disclaimer, we should be clear that sometimes not everything we mention when discussing balance changes make it to the live server - but at the same time we think it’s important to keep our players abreast of what we’re thinking internally. As long as it isn't dirty. Balance patch, when? This is, of course, what everyone wants to know. The answer is, as always: When it’s done. That’s not to sound harsh, but we really do like to be sure the changes are as good as can be reasonably achieved before we provide them for mass consumption. We also like to keep in mind tournaments and community events in mind as much as possible, and not put our competitive players into positions where they have very little time to practice or experiment. Speaking of community events… Weekend events Monthly Cup qualifier The second Monthly Cup qualifier takes place tomorrow, January 28th!
Remember that after this current Monthly Cup, it will be put on hiatus until after the release of 1.0. Get in while you can! Faeria Showdown League Community members Crow and ItsCappuccino have put together a series of invitational showmatches that put some of the best players in Faeria against one another, every weekend!
Noaphiel's King of the Hill Last weekend, notable pirate Modgnik toppled littlenooby to become the current King of the Hill. He'll defend his title this Sunday against Imperia, a notable Frenchman. These events are great to watch and learn how some of the highest level competitors are playing Faeria. Watching even one game can often teach you quite a bit, if you're looking to improve your game. Have a great weekend. -Gary(@Atmaz) |
A minor patch will be applied today, containing a few bug fixes.
Thank you for reading. The Faeria Team |
Leading up to then, we have some other important milestones to step upon. Let’s talk about those. Rolling out the iPad version We have completed the development process necessary to meet the standards of the Apple store, and have a version with which we are ready to begin more expanded testing. We will slowly begin rolling out the iPad version region by region, helping us polish it as much as possible prior to the complete 1.0 release in March. Starting today, the iPad version is available for download from the Apple store in Belgium only. (For those who may not know, Faeria comes from Belgium, and our small but wonderful country is an ideal place to test our iOS implementation of the game before opening up to wider audiences - specifically, this sees us change our internal processes when it comes to releasing updates to fit around Apple’s review process, and prepares us for providing consistently high quality cross-platform updates.) In February, Canada will become the second country in which gamers will be able to find Faeria in the App Store for iPads. Canada offers us a much larger gaming population than Belgium for us to get more data about how tablet players differ to our current PC audience, allowing us to consider what final tweaks might need to be made before 1.0. During this time, we will also open up a waiting list for users outside of these regions who are anxious to begin playing before March. Our latest iPad build of Faeria is much more optimised than when we previously opened up applications for iPad testers, and as such we now support even more devices than we did back then. Android users: don’t despair. Much of the work we have spent on getting Faeria ready for the Apple store has directly supported preparing for Android release, and will soon follow. While we have no exact dates for Android release, know that it is our next platform priority after iOS is complete. We are also working on expanding to Apple and Android phones not too long after launch. The list of current compatible iOS tablet devices are:
Older iPad models (original, iPad 2, iPad Mini 1) will not be supported in the future. Click here to apply to test Faeria on iPad before it launches in your country February update Before the full release in March, we plan another large update in February. This release version will be 0.96, and will contain numerous updates to the UI for both PC versions and iPad - although there will be further UI improvements to come at launch. This update will also introduce changes to the in-game economy and how items can be bought in the shop, offering us more flexibility to give special offers and fairer pricing. As mentioned in a previous update, we have had to conform our prices to meet requirements of the Apple store. After implementing this new economy system, we will be more in control of the prices offered in our store. For instance, last November/December there was a slight price surge in some regions that was outside of our control. We want to avoid things like this as much as possible. Our goal is to keep a solid price consistency across all platforms in order to prevent any favoritism or inequality. Monthly Cup hiatus In order to more fully focus on our impending launch, the Monthly Cup will be put on hiatus in February. This means that after the next Monthly Cup Finals on February 11th, there will be no Monthly Cup activity until we release version 1.0. We believe that during this time, the community will be able to occupy this brief time with tournament events of their own, as many have already been doing. If you wish to organize a community tournament for February or early March and are looking for prize support or otherwise, please contact Atmaz in Discord or by emailing gary@abrakam.com. - The Faeria Team |
A small update was applied today to fix a new series of bugs, an improved prologue as well as some important improvements to the game.
The Faeria Team |
We'd like to address the current state of the game, and talk about some general changes you can expect in the near future.
Noaphiel's King of the Hill Current "king" littlenooby looks to maintain his place at the top of the pile for the third consecutive week in a row. This time, he'll have to defeat Modgnik, who only recently lost his first Monthly Cup in 3 months. Have a great weekend!
|
For the first time ever, this community tournament will use the in-game deck registration system. You'll notice a button appear for it this Saturday on the main menu. In another first, Eggbot will be activated for an event other than the Monthly Cup. Link your Twitch account to Steam and tune in to MetagamingTV during the tournament for a chance to win the following prizes:
This will be the first tournament after the latest balance changes earlier this week, but that's not the only competition this weekend... Saturday King of the Hill Competitive player and German caster Noaphiel is continuing his King of the Hill series this Saturday, live on Twitch. Watch the recent "Top 4" Monthly Cup finisher Donpork square off against two time Monthly Cup competitor and ladder hero littlenooby in a Best of 9 for honor and glory. Monthly Cup As mentioned last week, there are some changes coming to the next Monthly Cup.
On a personal note, I've been somewhat absent lately for a very small, but important reason. I've added another human being to the ever-growing, consuming, suffocating population of Earth. And it's a girl! I don't know much about her yet, but her favorite things so far seem to be looking at things, being cute, and sleeping. I'll be back into full action soon, once I'm able to find time to sleep. Meanwhile, the team continues to work hard on some very cool stuff. I can't spoil any of it just yet, but 2017 should prove to be a very interesting year.

It's a new year, and a new Monthly Cup. Read on for more information about the big tournament this weekend, and also about some important changes we'll be making to Monthly Cups from now on.
See the brackets below: Sixteen countries total will be represented, by number of players:
Who do you think will win? Will Modgnik win his third straight Monthly Cup in a row, and buy a new parrot? Make sure to watch one of the following streams this weekend to be eligible win prizes! Click here to find out how you can win gold, Eggs, and more.
Note: Watching more than one stream at once does not increase your chances to win prizes. Monthly Cup changes With the new year will come some changes to the Monthly Cups in general. There is, of course, a lot of feedback centered around all aspects of our competitive scene - and we appreciate that. With all of that feedback and a half a year's worth of Monthly Cups behind us already, we've decided to make the following changes that will be effective immediately starting next cup.
It has been a standard for some time to invite the previous first and second placements to the next Monthly Cup - but we will now be extending that invitation to the third and fourth place finishers as well. Not only does this give even greater incentive to finish in the top four, it allows more champions to continually return with favored seeding and open themselves up to any challenger, every month. Note: While this is the plan for the immediate future, we may at some point reserve the 3rd and 4th slots again for externally invited, special guests. If this does happen again, we will make it very clear before any Monthly Cup that this will be the case.
We recognize the fact that possibly the most difficult way to qualify for the Monthly Cup is through high ranked ladder placements. Therefore, we want to expand this selection just a bit by sacrificing 2 slots from the community voting area. At the same time, we also want to make the voting process a little more interesting. Our first step in this area will be providing a new way for players to submit "campaign posts" to our official forums, where they can make a brief appeal to players about why they should vote for them.
In an effort to make the voting competition more interesting, there will be a brand new section on our forums titled "Monthly Cup Campaign posts" where you may try your best to convince others to vote for you. You may do this with images, text, or a combination of both! After you've submitted your post, we will link it to the actual voting page where you will be able to click next to each name and view their campaign. We feel this will give more life to the voting process and provide more information than just a name to those who are casting their vote. While voting will not open until after the Monthly Cup this Saturday, we have opened the forum section above if you'd like a head start in creating your post.
If you're not familiar with how tournament seeding works or are simply not interested, read no further! This mainly affects competitors. Previously, we have had 12 seeds available, with the top 4 going to special invitees and next 8 given based on ranking at end of season. We'll simply be adding 4 more seeds after that, totaling 16, meaning bracket seeding will now look like this:
In this way, every match in the Round of 32 will contain one seeded player. Thanks for reading, and see you this weekend!

With the new year comes an exciting range of possibilities, but we must also take time to thank those who have helped us make it here. Along with the new year comes a new season - let's talk about it all. Posted above are the current season’s unique card backs. Ranked card backs are on the left, Pandora on the right. Weekend timeline First, let's breakdown the timeline for this weekend before we go into further detail.
Vote for your favorite With the slightly altered holiday schedule, the closing time for voting is being shifted to two days before the season ends to allow for the qualifiers on Sunday. Therefore, voting for the current Monthly Cup closes at 23:59 CET on Saturday, December 31st. Remember, if you don't see your favorite player on the list, you need only type their name in the search box to find them.Ladder positions (for the Monthly Cup) will be locked in on Monday, January 2nd at 12:00pm (Noon) CET, and the ladder resets shortly thereafter. Monthly Cup qualifier There is yet another way you can qualify for the Monthly Cup! Participate in Sunday's qualifying tournament and be one of the 8 finalists. Did you know you also can win gold and Pandora coins in the process?
|
We wish a safe and pleasant holiday season to you and yours. We are very thankful to have you with us. We can't believe it's almost 2017! We feel this is an appropriate time to talk about the year's past events and how we got to where we are right now.
In the early months of this year, we launched into Early Access on Steam. This was a huge step forward. Our goal was to open up to a wider audience of players in order to keep improving Faeria’s core gameplay as well as test, tweak, and polish exciting new features - guided with the help of a larger community.
In March, we implemented crafting as well as our first big balance patch following the launch of our Early Access. Crafting was a heavily demanded feature from almost every one of our players and was a significant step on the road to a real Free to Play journey.Adding +2 Faeria to the Explore card is a shining example of how opening Early Access helped us improve Faeria. Before this change, when analyzing match statistics we found that the first player won around 63% of games at the time. This raised some serious flags and guided us to the solution we ended up implementing. After the implementation of this change, we observed the following statistics in the coming months. While we're always keeping an eye on things like this, we feel we are in a much better spot thanks to everyone's efforts in Early Access.
Faeria attended its first major video game convention of 2016 in mid-March at GDC. The experience was amazing for our team as they could gather invaluable feedback from players as well as share ideas about the game’s future.
No joke, but on April 1st we implemented five new languages to the game: French, German, Russian, Portuguese and Spanish. This patch taught us it was very difficult for players to take anything serious when updating on this particular day, for some reason.
Before Monthly Cups were a normality, our first major esports event was an invitational with a prize pool of $5000. It was the first time we were able to watch players play Faeria with real money on the line, and therefore provide more fierce competition. It taught us a lot about the state of the game and helped us make improvements to the card base in the future. Special invitees to this event included known personalities such as: Kolento, Kripparrian, RDU, P4wnyhof, Lifecoach, Orange, SuperJJ, and thefishou. Top finishers of this tournament were: Kingdanzz, Lifecoach, and Kerith.
A long time in the making, our players unleashed Pandora themselves after a special 100,000 game "Highlander battle" event. Designed as a more fun and casual Faeria experience, as well as add another brick in the path of the Free to Play journey, the release of the first iteration of Pandora was an important milestone to reach.
On this day, not only did we announce the Monthly Cups that our players are now so familiar with, but we launched https://esports.faeria.com/ - a hub which we later updated to now even display Pandora rankings and rewards. Regular Monthly Cups would set the pace for the best Faeria players to battle it out for a prize pool of over $3000 every month for glory and fame.
With the help of community members Scream and J0k3se, our presence at Dreamhack helped expose the game to even more players, and bring in that always valuable one-on-one feedback. Our partners at Alienware and Roccat helped us organize this event, and you can find a small album of this event on our Facebook page.
Faeria's 257th card, Three Wishes, was the first new card to be added in 2016. This was also the day we reworked our Mulligan system to allow you to select individual cards in your starting hand to be discarded and redrawn.
In late August, Faeria was officially ready to transition into Free-to-Play on Steam Early Access. This day coincided with a much larger update which saw the introduction of the Solo Content overhaul, gold fountain, and new supported languages.
Our next big milestone update, version 0.9 introduced many new social features, improvements to the solo content, an entirely new progression system, and many other features that are helping us now fully focus on our full release and exit from Early Access that is coming in 2017.
In our most recent exciting news, we added 10 brand new cards to the game. At this point, it seems like only yesterday! This list is of course not all-encompassing of every event and update this year, but it's a fairly decent summary of the more major milestones. In the end, we'd like to sincerely thank you all for making 2016 such a success. We'll see you again in 2017 for a whole new wild ride! It will be the year of full release, new platforms, and our first expansions. And yaks. Always yaks.

This patch introduces some significant new animations and sounds in-game, as well as sets everything up for the holidays. We won't spoil everything - see for yourself!
The results from the Holiday Costume Contest are in. Originally we said we'd be selecting up to five community submissions, but we just couldn't make up our mind on a few of them, so we selected six. Ya, we can do that. The following cards will have a festive twist applied to their art for a limited time:
Special thanks to everyone in the community who contributed a submission. If yours wasn't selected to be put in game - we still enjoyed looking at every single one. These are a lot of fun, and we hope to do more in the future. Ranked icon swap We've swapped the Ranked title progression for the two leagues before God in order to be more in line with accepted standards. Ranks 6-10 will now be Platinum league, and 1-5 will be Diamond. This now makes Ranked league progression as follows: Bronze -> Silver -> Gold -> Platinum -> Diamond -> God These changes will have no effect on current player ranks and are entirely cosmetic in nature. Card name changes

With an update or news post nearly every day this week, you might feel a little surrounded by an overwhelming amount information. Here's a sweeping recap of the latest Faeria happenings and the revealing of two more Monthly Cup special guests. The limited availability Yogscast Jingle Jam Humble Bundle is still available! Contribute $30 or more and get Faeria's Early Access bundle along with much, much more. All proceeds go to charity. This Week in Patches We've had a series of updates this week, with various bug fixes, improvements, and balance changes. In case you missed any, here they all are wrapped up in a nice bow. Monthly Cup ESL Invitees For the next Monthly Cup, we'll be mixing things up a bit. With the ESL Go4Faeria cups on hiatus until after Faeria 1.0, we'd like to invite some of the players with the current highest amount of earned points from participating in ESL cups. Since Kingdanzz is already invited from his high placement in the previous cup, and v3tec and Donkey74 are unable to attend the date of the tournament - we're happy to announce our next two special guests: Cappuccino and Thormond! These competitive players have consistently demonstrated their ability to finish high in ESL cups, and it's no surprise that they've been in a few previous Monthly Cups as well. This time, they'll be given the third and fourth seeds in the bracket. Wish them luck, although they probably don't need it! Monthly Cup qualifier The next Monthly Cup is in the qualification process, and the holiday season has slightly shifted the normal schedule. The first qualifier takes place tomorrow: Saturday, December 17th. Don't forget - placing high in a qualifier can earn you gold and Pandora coins! Keep an eye out on Twitch for those who will be streaming the qualifiers this weekend. Have a good one!

The sixth Monthly Cup is over! Here's a brief recap of the events this past weekend and information about the next cup.
Previous Monthly Cup winners have a $150 bounty put on their heads. Anyone able to defeat them in a match claims the prize. This month, the following bounties were claimed:
That's right, this last Monthly Cup marks the first time a player has claimed their own bounty by remaining undefeated throughout the entire tournament. Krog has placed new bounties on Modgnik and Kingdanzz! They'll be automatically invited to the next Monthly Cup, taking place Saturday, January 7th. Here's a look at the full brackets and how they played out. If you missed the tournament entirely and want to see the matches, check out the following videos:
https://esports.faeria.com/ has been prepared for the next cup, and you can now Vote for your favorite player here! Note that during this holiday season, the qualifier schedule will be somewhat abnormal. Sign up for the next cup's qualifiers here: This means that voting will now close Saturday, December 31st, so as not to interfere with the qualifier. The Monthly Cup itself will take place after the next season reset on the first Monday of next month, placing it on Saturday, January 7th.

We are applying a patch in the next few minutes. You will be able to complete your current game but will have to restart your client to update the game. |
This is a targeted balance patch designed to address the dominance of the Annoying Gnat and give a boost to a couple of other, less-used cards.
The monthly cup proved that Annoying Gnat’s value was simply too high, even after its first nerf. We want to focus on the Gnat’s synergy with effects that demand sacrifices or care about flying. Now that Gnat is a 1/1 that can’t harvest, it no longer can pick up huge value through creature combat or harvesting faeria. All of its value is focused on its unique nature as a creature that always comes back after being swatted. This also increases the options for counterplay against the gnat, as you should now feel a lot better about attacking it with your creatures to deal extra damage to your opponent (compared to the old 2/1 version). Rebel Glider
Flying and Dash 2 on a neutral card allows for powerful aggressive land positions early in the game. All you need to do is dash your glider onto an enemy land, then build your own land deep in enemy territory (as early as turn 2 if you have the explore card). Rebel Glider had far more powerful stats early in testing, and resulted in some shattering plays. We overnerfed the card before release just to be safe. Now that the 1/3 version has been proven far too weak to be usable, we’re giving it a boost again. We think 2/3 is a lot closer to the sweet spot. Gabrian Commander
After the nerf to Triton Banquet blue lost a lot of its old pandora power. Gabrian Commander has long been ignored in both Pandora and Battle mode, so we’re giving it a boost to help increase blue’s options in the 7+ base cost archetype. Rarity Changes We have some rarity changes planned for tomorrow that should help provide a more diverse Pandora landscape since the last 10 cards were added. However, we wanted to push these balance changes in as soon as possible in the week so as to give players as much time as possible to prepare for tournaments.

Yes, that's right. Winners from this contest will get their costume displayed in-game for the holiday season! Here's an example to get you started. Don't laugh please, we spent a lot of time on it: Alright, I think you get the idea. You can add ability text to your card if you want, but it's not necessary. Remember, the winners will have their costume applied to existing cards already in the game! Submissions close 23:59 CET on Monday, December 19th. Show us what you got.

Who do you think will win? Make sure to watch one of the following streams this weekend to be eligible win prizes! Click here to find out how you can win gold, Eggs, and more.
It's important to note that since the last event, we've found and corrected some issues where certain players may not have been receiving rewards correctly. We do apologize for that inconvenience, and please let us know of any further problems. Patches this week In case you missed it, it's been a busy week for updates to the Faeria client. The Fugoro Challenge is live, and the Black Wisp returns! Let's talk a bit about current balance, the upcoming end of the season, Monthly Cup, and ESL. Posted above are the current season’s unique card backs. Ranked card backs are on the left, Pandora on the right. Vote for your Favorite Voting for the current Monthly Cup closes at 23:59 CET on Sunday, December 4th. Remember, if you don't see your favorite player on the list, you need only type their name in the search box to find them. Ladder positions (for the Monthly Cup) will be locked in on Monday, December 5th at 12:00pm (Noon) CET, and the ladder resets shortly thereafter. Monthly Cup Qualifier There is yet another way you can qualify for the Monthly Cup! Participate in tomorrow's qualifying tournament and be one of the 8 finalists. Did you know you also can win gold and Pandora coins in the process? Go4Faeria November Finals As mentioned previously, our ESL cups will be taking a break until the exit of Early Access. There's one more event left, however. The last finals take place this Sunday, December 4th at 18:00 CET. Keep an eye on Faeria's section on Twitch to watch them live. The following players will be competing for $400 in prizes, in alphabetical order:
If you're familiar with competitive Faeria, you should recognize a lot of those names. We're very excited to see what these excellent players can do with the latest changes. Okay, I'm done. Have a great weekend!

Puzzle #45 is being temporarily replaced by a copy of Puzzle #39, as #45 is currently unplayable with the changes to Soul Pact. You will receive the same reward as normal and, should you complete this puzzle before the new version is added, you will be able to play the new puzzle in replay mode. Known Bugs:
Price Changes
Addendum: In the first version of the news, we failed to communicate that the €EUR and £GBP have also been impacted by this update. We also failed to communicate the actual reason for those changes: iOS and Android upcoming launches. Those platforms don't allow to set pricing manually for anything else than $USD, and even our $USD pricing have to be based on pre-defined pricing matrix. We had two possible options, the first one was to have complete different pricing between iOS/Android and Steam. The second one is the one that we have chosen, having the same prices across all platforms in order to make sure our Cross-Platform philosophy would be respected and that players wouldn't feel cheated for not being it on Steam instead of iOS or Android (and vice-versa in some cases). To those of you who are negatively affected by this change, we offer our apologies. Hopefully you can understand that there was no perfect option for us that wouldn't be unfair to some people, and the balance we chose actually balances out at a net decrease in prices from our side. We really screwed up by announcing these changes incorrectly, this has been a particularly busy week at Abrakam, and the result of a miscommunication on our internal chat servers this morning wasn't spotted until after a player drew our attention to the inaccuracy. As always, if you encounter any bugs or have any questions then please don't hesitate to let us know via the usual reporting channels. - The Faeria Team |
Today’s exciting update sees 10 brand new cards arrive in Faeria, along with changes to constructed queues, mechanical updates, visual and UI improvements, and balance changes - not to mention your chance to win prizes from Alienware and Razer in the Fugoro Challenge! These 10 new cards bring Faeria's card base to a total of 267 cards, 297 if you take into consideration the Pandora treasures. The task of extending the card base of an existing CCG has been an absolutely delightful experience for us. It's actually way more fun to craft additional layers to the game than it is pouring the foundations. It's a feeling we couldn't fully imagine until we experienced it. Faeria has some very unique gameplay. We've often felt as if we were exploring uncharted areas of gaming when creating it. We feel that our mastery over our own gameplay is infinitely better today than it was one year ago (thanks to all of our players who try to break the meta routinely, especially), and that improved understanding of Faeria helps us be more effective at creating good gameplay. Not only that, but it's also been a long time coming that we give Faeria more cards that are able to challenge the most seasoned deck builders among you. These 10 cards, and the dozens of other changes that we've applied to the card base with this patch, are meant to create more diverse and tense gameplay. We are super excited to see what the new environment will be like. Constructed Queues Have Been Merged The Ranked and Unranked constructed queues have been merged together to improve matchmaking quality. When queuing in Battle mode, you will be presented with two options:
The functionality of each is very similar to before, with a few key differences.
We’ve considered these significant changes from many different angles, and believe this is the best way forward that has the best interests of our players in mind. While we could have simply removed the Unranked option altogether and funnel all players into the same Ranked queue, we think it’s important for players to have the option to play without the inherent stresses involved with Ranked play. We also believe it’s important to preserve the ability for Ranked players to experiment with new decks in a Casual mode without being concerned with hurting their Ranking. With these changes, we believe we can accomplish those goals while also reducing the average amount of time a player must wait before beginning a game of Faeria. Mechanic Adjustments We’ve made various adjustments to the basic mechanics of Faeria in an effort to improve the overall intuitiveness and ease of understanding.
These situations are now based on the order of the locations where these creatures are on the board. Location order starts from the top-left corner down to the bottom-left corner, then continues on the column to the right, always from the top to the bottom from the point of view of the active player (so this is actually inverted for you if your opponent plays a spell such as Firestorm). This means that a creature in column 1 will always harvest before a creature from column 2 from the same well. Additionally: A creature above another in the same column will always harvest first. Note that since Ruunin's Shrine is being redesigned in this patch as well (see below), the influence this change has on how Area of Effect damage works should not be noticeable. Feel free to submit as many as you like, and we'll add the best ones to the game. Try and remain as concise and informative as possible - players won't have an overly long time to read these. Meltdown, France Imperia and Kanthik, competitive Faeria players and casters from GamersOrigin, have been working together to help with local Meltdown events in Clermont-Ferrand, France. We've heard a lot of good things from these events, and wanted to say that we are very thankful and humbled by their passion for the game and the new players they have introduced. Looks awesome. J0k3se's Spot Lethal series We wanted to give a well deserved shout-out to J0k3se and his excellent work in creating difficult scenarios to test the might and mettle of community members in his ongoing Spot Lethal series on YouTube. One of his puzzles even made it into the game in the first edition of the Solo content. See if you can spot it before the guests do. Weekend tournaments Monthly Cup Qualifier #1 The next Monthly Cup is ready to begin qualifications! ESL GO4Faeria The GO4Faeria tournaments will be taking a break shortly, but there is still one more cup remaining for November. With a patch earlier this week, and another next week - we're eager to see what these tournaments can begin to teach us about the latest changes. |
We’ve dashed ahead and slammed an update into your Faeria client today. Solo content has been overhauled, keywords have been introduced, and we’re teasing the first 3 new cards!
Land count, deck holder, and power wheel visuals have all been updated with a new look. Note that this area is still considered a work in progress and has not yet reached its final form.
Emotes will now only be usable by right clicking to prevent accidentally activating them, and you should now be able to send emotes at the same time your opponent does.
Dash - Dash {N}: When summoned, move this creature up to {N} spaces in a straight line. Dash lets you invade the enemy territory in a really explosive way: after summoning the creature, you're prompted with the option to move it right away by some spaces. This can be used for positioning a defender between your orb and a threatening creature, or to push your creature into an aggressive position. Dash has been crafted to increase the sensation of speed and interactivity experienced when playing Faeria. Slam - When this creature attacks, it also damages every enemy adjacent to the target. Slam is the groundbreaking ability Faeria was missing. Being able to inflict your damage to a pack of creatures, but also the enemy god and their structures, makes Slam the ultimate tool for piercing through defenses. We’ve implemented these new keywords on a select few of our existing cards to give you a taste of them and how they operate. All of this is only an introduction to the next week’s patch we’re preparing: you can expect Slam and Dash to be much more present once that patch is out. Balance Changes
Sagami Warrior is the only creature that is receiving a heavy redesign along with the new keyword. The rest of the creatures are retaining all of their previous stats and abilities, with the addition of the following keywords:
In addition to these changes, we are pushing some additional balance adjustments with this update. Note that we have some other modifications we are considering for next week's patch with the introduction of the new cards, but have decided these were important enough to get in sooner rather than later.
Unbound Evolution is a card we've had our eyes on for quite some time. We know it's been a hot topic among the community, as well. The card has gone through several iterations since it was first created, and while we still really like some of the exciting situations it can create, it seems like it just can't be a good fit for Faeria at this time. Along with Triton Banquet, these events often become a reason to be very hesitant to engage a Blue player's creatures due to these incredibly high value tricks that can be so commonly executed. Along with those adjustments, we've also toned down Sunken Tower and Luduan just a bit, though we still believe they will remain very powerful cards. We hope the new Failed Experiment will encourage some new decks that were previously not possible, or at least make them more fun to play.
This was a change directly related to the new and improved Combat keyword functionality.
This is a change we felt was necessary and directly related to the addition of Failed Experiment. To be clear, this means that she will also no longer be discounted by cards like Ogre Dance. New card teasers As mentioned previously, we’re excited to be releasing 10 brand new cards next week, some of which will feature the new keywords listed above. We’ll be slowly revealing them until they are released… starting today! Here is your first look at 3 of the new cards we’ll be adding to Faeria: Bug fixes
With this update, Blue is the first color to have all of its final art in Early Access! Thank you for your continued support - and, as always, for your valuable feedback.

We’ve some important news to share regarding the upcoming patches and brand new cards, as well as an update to our esports commitment and where we’re at right now.

Watch streams this weekend, win prizes! We also have an important announcement regarding Solo content changes.
This means that if you want to receive all of the current rewards in the existing Solo content, you will need to complete it before our next update scheduled for the week of November 21st. After that, the new Act system will be in place and you may need to make a purchase to continue. It is very important for us to get the Solo content in a well-polished state before Early Access is over - and we thank all of you for the heavy amounts of feedback and testing you've provided for us. Monthly Cup this weekend The next $3300 Monthly Cup is taking place tomorrow:- Saturday, November 12th at 16:00 CET. See the brackets below: Who do you think will win? Make sure to watch one of the following streams this weekend to be eligible win prizes! Click here to find out how you can win gold, Eggs, and more.
Whenever the Monthly Cup rolls around, Eggs just can't handle it: They hatch. While our scientists are still working on figuring out exactly what it is about the Monthly Cup that makes the Eggs hatch, we've put together all the information you need about Eggs in one helpful post. X-Story, a short film Outside of Faeria news, we wanted to share with everyone an amazing animation project that one of our artists, Vitaliy Shushko, has recently completed. Two years in the making, his short film "X-Story" was released three days ago. Watch it by clicking here or the image above, you won't be disappointed. Have a great weekend. -Gary(@Atmaz) |
Announcing the spookiest costumes, the next Monthly Cup guest, and all you need to know about the next season reset!
If you submitted and didn’t win, don’t worry - we loved each and every one of them. We look forward to doing more events like this in the future. New Cards? One of the most common questions we hear is: “New cards, when?!” Don't worry, we're as anxious as you are. While we don’t want to promise any specific dates at this point, we are currently actively testing and iterating on the next batch of new cards to be added to Faeria. The addition of the new cards will accompany a few balance changes as well, and we’re pretty excited about it all. We expect the set of cards and changes to be ready for deployment by Christmas. Monthly Cup Special Guest We’re happy to have Hunden competing in the next Monthly Cup, taking place Saturday, November 12th! Hunden is a Swedish Magic: The Gathering player who competes weekly in the Stockholm Modern Champion League with his playgroup, Den Magiska Fjädern. Having previously qualified for the Magic Pro Tour in Japan, he describes himself very much as a classic “Johnny” type player - often using unorthodox decks that catch his opponents off-guard. Directly quoting him, he “plays Magic on hard mode.” We’re looking forward to seeing what he brings to our Monthly Cup. Season’s End Like the reliable ebb and flow of the tide, our current Ranked and Pandora seasons will be resetting on the first Monday of the month, which happens to be this coming Monday, November 7th. Don't forget that CEST (GMT+2) has changed to CET (GMT+1) recently. Each season will have unique card backs for both Ranked mode and Pandora. In the above image: The current season’s Ranked card backs are on the left, Pandora on the right. Vote for your Favorite Voting for the current Monthly Cup closes at 23:59 CET on Sunday, November 6th. Ladder positions (for the Monthly Cup) will be locked in on Monday, November 7th at 12:00pm (Noon) CET, and the ladder resets shortly thereafter. Have a great weekend. -Gary (@Atmaz) |
Here's an example to get you started. Don't laugh please, I spent a lot of time on it: Your costumes don't need to have abilities, but you can add them if you like. October Monthly Cup special guest We’re happy to have JoyfulRogue joining the competition in the next Monthly Cup on November 12th! If you're not familiar with JoyfulRogue, he was one of the original players and streamers of Faeria, all the way back in the 2013 alpha version. He has a long history with the game, and he's going to be gearing back up to see how he squares up in the new competitive scene. Do not be surprised if he uses a yak or two in his decks. Hotfix round-up We've had a couple updates to the game this week that dealt with several issues. Make sure to check them out on our forums if you haven't already. Note on the latest version: To make a long story short, there is a pretty severe crash bug that we are having difficulty smoothing out. It affects a large enough portion of players that we need to take drastic measures to try and fix it before the weekend. The latest client version will temporarily no longer display animations for experience gained at the end of each match. You will still gain the proper amount of experience - you just won't be able to see it. This change should fix a lot of the crashes for now, and we will work on preparing a more suitable fix next week. Thank you for your understanding and patience. Community survey We have another routine community survey for you to fill out, if you should find the time. As always, thank you very much for your thoughts and consideration. When will the current season reset? As always, the end of the season occurs on the first Monday of each month at 12:00pm Noon CEST - which puts this season's end date on November 7th. Now that we have proper Pandora seasonal rewards, this is the date both Ranked and Pandora seasons will be resetting. Weekend tournaments October Monthly Cup qualifiers The last qualifier for the October season Monthly Cup takes place tomorrow: Saturday, October 29th. ESL Go4Faeria Cup #9 Sunday, October 30th. Have a great weekend. We apologize for the latest issues with Mac and Linux client - we're working on fixing them as soon as possible. -Gary(@Atmaz) |

New tooltip:
You can read the full list of changes this week right here on our forums. UI improvements Earlier this week we posted a reaction to the heavy amounts of feedback on the latest user-interface layout in game in the Faeria subreddit, which you can read by clicking here. We just want to restate the fact that we hear your continued feedback and plan on making some changes. While we weren’t able to release an updated layout this week, it’s being actively worked on. We haven’t forgotten! iOS testing If all goes well, we should begin closed iOS testing by the end of next week. We know it’s been a long time coming and we’re slightly behind the expected schedule, but much of the team’s focus has been on releasing version 0.9 on time and meeting that self-imposed deadline. The good news is that a lot of the work involved in preparing version 0.9 dealt with significant performance optimizations that should help Faeria run on mobile devices much more smoothly. Tournament weekend Monthly Cup Monthly Cup qualifiers are starting up yet again! Or: GO4Faeria Don’t forget that ESL runs the Go4Faeria cups every Sunday, which you can sign up for here. Speaking of which, congratulations to the winners of the Global September Finals! Have a great weekend. Here’s a Yak inside of a toaster pastry, courtesy of SiriusCowKing. Why not? -Gary(@Atmaz) |
Recruit your friends to Faeria and both of you will receive some explosive rewards.
Patch notes In case you missed it, Faeria version 0.9 was released earlier this week. Shortly after that we had a small set of bug fixes which you can read here. Today, we have another set of changes and fixes:
We know a lot of you were wondering where the hand size number went in our last update, and the answer is that it was just the first step in transitioning into the new, simpler layout that is more mobile friendly, less overwhelming to new players, and allows players to show off their cosmetics more easily. It makes having a unique card back more special - whereas before you could only see your own card back briefly while drawing or playing it. We know it's a big change, but we encourage you to try it out for a bit and let us know what you think. Note: Many have asked where puzzles #38, 40, 34, and 44 are with the latest version. The simple answer is that they were removed due to technical or design issues right before the update, but had their numbers reserved. While we still implemented 15 new puzzles with v0.9, we will be going back to fill those puzzle holes at a later date. Don't worry, you're not missing anything! RIP The Hair: 2015-2016 By far, the most important change with today's patch is the removal of the insidious "hair" from the ocean in the forest background. It took the team several hours and a team of draft Yaks to pull it loose from the briny depths, but no longer will some of you attempt to destroy your monitors in efforts to remove what is not there. Here is the before and after: It will be missed. ESL monthly finals Eight of the best players from last month's ESL cups square off against one another this Saturday and compete for $400 in prizes! You can watch it all unfold on Blackscape's Twitch channel at 6pm CEST on Saturday. Have a great weekend! -Gary(@Atmaz) |
We’ve introduced our reasoning behind this a few weeks ago, and have since released a FAQ going into more detail on the many questions players had about this major change. Please read these articles if you haven’t already for why we had to make this difficult decision. Thank you for your understanding. New Social Features
When we introduced the ability to spectate private lobbies several months ago, we mentioned we’d be expanding this feature in the future. The future is now. You may now simply select anyone in your friends list who is playing a game and be able to jump right in to spectating them. Of course, we’ve also provided an option on your social menu to disable this if you prefer your battles to be more private. During competitive tournaments, this feature will be automatically disabled when playing games through tournament lobbies.
One of our most requested features, you will now be able to communicate to your opponents as well - in emote form! Note that this is the first iteration of the emote system, and we plan on expanding it in the future. How do they work? Every player, by default, receives the base set of 5 standard emotes. When you go to your profile screen you will see the list of these: In addition to this default set of emotes, you will be able to purchase customisable emote sets from the shop! Emotes will be tied to a character, and you must be using their relevant avatar in order to use their emotes. Initially, emotes will only be available as part of a Set (see below about Sets). Aurora, Seifer, and Sharra Sets will be available in this update - and we plan on adding more in the future. Eventually, emotes will be available for purchase individually. You can use your emotes by clicking on your orb during a game. Want your opponents to remain quiet? No problem. There’s an option in the settings menu to mute all emotes. Solo Content Improvements
One of the most overwhelmingly popular aspects of our new Solo content has been Jalmyr’s selection of mind-bending Puzzles. Who are we to say no? Have some more! For those of you who have completed 100% of the Single Player experience so far, one lane will re-open for you to complete these new puzzles. For new players, or those of you currently working through the Single Player mode, new puzzles will simply be shuffled in to appear as you progress.
This is something we knew we needed to implement as soon as possible, based on your feedback. Now you’ll be able to replay some of your favorite puzzles and quests, for fun! (However, rewards will not be given for replaying Single Player games.) Shop and Item improvements
Battle Chests are much like Booster Packs, with the exception of two key differences 1) You’ll have the unique ability to reroll the card of the highest rarity. 2) There is now a chance that Mythic cards may be found within
We are lowering the amount of Gold given by the Gold Fountain, to fit better with the value of our other in-game economic changes. It will now give 500 Gold on purchase, plus 40 Gold every day for 30 days - to give you a total of 1700 Gold. This still represents fantastic value, and you’ll be able to buy plenty with it in our improved shop! Due to this change, all players with an active Gold Fountain at the time of this update will receive the total amount of Gold still owed by that Fountain, immediately now, at the old rate - so for example if you have 10 days left for your Gold Fountain, you will receive 10x60 = 600 Gold.
We’ve been wanting to overhaul the in game shop for some time, and there’s no better time than now. It should be much easier to navigate now and more logically organised. This will allow us to provide a large amount of cosmetic items without overwhelming you with them all in one screen. Speaking of which…
A wider variety of purchasable cosmetics has been something both ourselves and our players have wanted for some time. Not only do we have new Avatars and Orbs available, but you may now acquire and customise Wells, Card backs, and our new Emotes! Keep an eye out for more arriving in the near future…
Offering better value for money than buying each item separately, our Character Sets will include a beautifully matching avatar, orb, card back, well, and emote collection. The first three sets available are Aurora, Seifer, and Sharra. Please note: Right now, anyone who buys a Set will be charged the full price. In the future we plan to modify this so that if you already own an item in a set (for example, you own the avatar but nothing else) you will see a price for the Set which removes 80% of the cost of any already-owned item. We won’t be able to retroactively provide this discount - so make sure to wait for it if that’s what you desire.
The lovely pink Mythic Chests will contain a random selection of gorgeous cosmetics. Those of you who have previously purchased the Core Set will receive a free Mythic Starter Pack instead of a Battle Starter Pack with this update, however Mythic Chests are not yet available to buy, nor can they be opened right now if you receive one for free. Soon we will be bringing more cosmetics into the game and offering Mythic Chests to all!
Now available in the shop is the Battle Starter Pack, soon to be joined by the Mythic Starter Pack. Starter Packs are designed to give new players a head start, offering double the value compared to normal purchases of Chests. Each player can only ever buy one of each type of Starter Pack - and this includes the free ones we are giving away with this update, so whichever type you receive today you will not be able to buy another of. Player Progression rework
The maximum player level is no longer capped at 30. There is now no upper limit to how high you can progress! Every time you advance one hundred levels, the speed at which you level up resets back to how it was at the start. For example, it takes the same amount of experience to progress through levels 101 to 110 as it does for levels 1–10. Note that previously we described this as a tiered system whereby each 100 levels would be numbered starting again from 1. While it will still function the same way, we have kept it more simple in this release. For now, you will simply be level “205” instead of level 5 in the third “league”, for example.
Each time you progress to a new level, you will be shown three cards of a certain rarity which you don’t currently own the maximum number of, and be able to choose one to keep. If you have all the cards of a rarity and happen to receive a card from that rarity for leveling up, you will receive compensation in gold instead of a card.
We have updated our experience system to take into account more things that happen during the course of a game. This means that even if you lose, you may gain a decent amount of experience based on how you performed and the actions you completed.
The requirements to complete each Daily Quest have been reduced across the board. The rewards for completion have been slightly reduced in compensation of this, but should still be very generous. For example: Old Daily Quest:Rampage: Deal 100 Damage to Enemies.Reward: 60 gold. 0.9 Daily Quest:Rampage: Deal 60 Damage to Enemies.Reward: 50 gold.
Major Pandora overhaul As mentioned in our Improving Pandora post, Pandora is going through some major changes. Not only are we changing the ranking system, run length, and run rewards, but we’ll be adjusting some of the existing treasures and basic mechanics of Pandora opening as well. We’ve based the Pandora balance changes not only on player feedback, but our own data collecting and observations. To keep this post as short as possible, a full rundown of all the Pandora balance changes can be found on our forums here.
The temporary placeholder which was a carbon copy of the constructed Ranked system has been completely removed and replaced by Pandora Points. You accumulate Pandora Points, or PP, based on your total number of wins in a single run. You cannot lose Pandora Points. You will receive a reward for your total amount of Pandora Points at the end of each season, which will remain the first Monday of every month. See below for what those rewards are. At the beginning of each season, your seasonal Pandora Points are set back to 0. You can track the highest amount of Pandora Points on our esports website, which you can find here. Pandora points are not taken into account for matchmaking.
We’ve reduced the number of total wins you need before your run is “maxed out,” and made the rewards generally more appealing. When your run is over, you will now be awarded the following:
Seasonal Pandora rewards: We will have a brand new section on our website dedicated entirely to the new Pandora seasonal reward system, which will go live later today. Phantom Coins have been renamed to Practice Coins. You still will receive one Practice Coin for free per day, if you do not already have one. Practice Runs have been reduced to 3 wins or 2 losses in length, and reward the following
Balance Changes We’ve been observing games, gathering feedback, and watching competitive tournaments. Whenever we make balance changes, we like to ensure they are truly necessary or will push the game in a positive or healthy direction. One important change we are making is not a change to a card, but a change to the fundamental mechanics of the game:
To keep this post as short as possible, a full rundown of all the balance changes can be found on our forums here. Other features
We have been hard at work improving Faeria’s overall performance. You should see lower CPU and memory usage in general.
Several animations in the game are either new or improved in version 0.9. Examples include a new scene for opening Battle Chests and more interesting highlights and animations when uncovering new cards. Legendary cards will now be highlighted and celebrated when discovered.
We’ve added a new shore, or in-game background, into the random rotation for your games! See if you can spot it.
Bug fixes To keep this post as short as possible, a full rundown of all the bug fixes can be found on our forums here. Today's update is a big one so we appreciate your help reporting any new bugs you might find. We hope you enjoy all of these changes and improvements we’ve put together for you in this major patch. Many of these new features were shifted into high priority due to the large amounts of player feedback we are happy to continually receive. As announced previously, we are also giving every eligible player some free gifts as part of this update, as a thank-you for your helping us shape Faeria during Early Access. If you have not purchased the Core Set while it was available, you will receive the Battle Starter Pack, while Core Set buyers will receive a Mythic Starter Pack instead. Everyone will also receive a Gold Fountain for free, so start thinking about what to spend your Gold on! (You must have already finished the prologue - the first six Solo missions - by the time of this update to receive these gifts.) Thank you, and let us know what you think!

The fourth Monthly Cup is over! Here's a brief recap of the events this weekend.
https://esports.faeria.com/ has been prepared for the next cup, and you're free to vote for your favorite players! We're working on updating the Hall of Fame. Sign up for the next cup's qualifiers here: The Monthly Cup itself will take place after the next season reset on the first Monday of next month, which ends up on November 12th. Walking on a sea of eggshells Thousands of eggs were hatched over the weekend, and thousands of prizes went out during the stream. Our numbers show the vast majority of viewers received at least one prize. Note that in some cases it could take awhile for the emails to be sent out, as Eggbot was heavily loaded with prizes to distribute. Regardless, if you followed instructions - you should definitely have received something in your mailbox. Make sure to check your junk folders, many email providers seem to easily confuse eggs with spam for some reason. How naive of them! Balance patch coming. With the latest Monthly Cup over, we wanted to give players a heads up that there will be some balance changes wrapped in the large package for the October 12th update. We know there are tournaments coming up this weekend (as there are every weekend), but we've decided we need to make them sooner rather than later. The changes are still being finalized and tested, and likely will not be released until Wednesday. Thanks for your patience!

You've been sitting on your Eggs long enough. Let's announce the final Monthly Cup special guest and begin tomorrow's Eggstravaganza.
Egg Timers Every single minute you are watching one of the approved Egg streams, your Egg Timer will increase. The higher your Egg Timer, the more chances to win more valuable prizes. Every 30 minutes, prizes are distributed to a select amount of active viewers based on the value of Egg Timers. If you are selected as a winner, prizes will be sent to the email address linked to your Faeria account. Due to popular demand, we have added a guaranteed prize to those who have watched over a certain amount of time, to smooth over that rotten empty Egg feeling. The rest of the prizes are given at random. We have also updated the Eggbot to distribute more prizes on average.
You may only win one of each prize throughout the course of the entire stream. There is no way to check your Egg timer, but know that if you are watching the stream and your Twitch account is linked to Steam, your timer is certainly given credit. How many Eggs can I hatch? At this point in time, you can only ever have hatched three Eggs in total. If you apply an Egg coupon to your account and have already hatched three Eggs, you cannot hatch another yet. We applaud your Egg hoarding abilities, but in the future we plan on adding many more possible hatchlings. You can hang on to your Eggs until that time comes. Egg Schedule Saturday, October 8th:
Sunday, October 9th:
How do I hatch my Egg? If you own an Egg, you need only check back from time to time in-game to see if it has hatched. If you are connected to Faeria you have a slightly higher chance for your Egg to hatch than if you are not. If you have been lucky enough to have another Egg coupon laying around, you may even be able to hatch more than one during the hatching period. Note, however, that chances to hatch any Eggs past the first one become much smaller during the same hatching period, and you cannot hatch more than three at this time. If your Egg is ready to hatch, you will see this button appear on the main menu. Click it to initiate the hatching process. We recommend you stay at a safe distance until it is complete. See you when it's ova!

We knew that when we announced our plans for v0.9 of Faeria that it would create as many questions as it tried to answer. The Developers and Community Team have scoured through all of your posts on the Boards, Reddit, Steam, Discord, and personal messages, so we can catch em’ all! How will my current account be affected? If I create a new Steam and Faeria account, will I still get a Gold Fountain and Starter Pack on the 12th? All accounts which have completed the prologue by October 11th will receive these gifts. Will I get a new Gold Fountain if I already have one currently active? If you have an active Gold Fountain it will be extended by 30 days, along with the extra 600 gold from the new fountain. Will my level change with this update? No, your account level will stay the same, however after this update you will be able to progress past level 30 once you get there. Will there be any compensation for those who reached level 30 and missed out on all the extra cards presented to them? The new rewards system will not retroactively affect current players, however the free Gold Fountain and Starter Pack for each current player is both a token of our gratitude for your support and a gesture to reward already-active accounts as we launch these changes. I have already opened Booster Packs in the past, can I go back and re-open them under the new system? No, this is not possible to do, but any unopened Booster Packs you have at the time of the update will automatically convert into unopened Battle Chests. If I buy the core set now, what happens in the future? Will full collection owners still get the 10 cards you're planning to add to the core set? There are still more cards to come that we will be calling part of the Core Set, and anyone who has purchased the Core Set will receive these cards at no extra cost. After our 1.0 release, there will be expansions to come in 2017 - cards featured in these expansions will not be part of the Core Set. Can I play through the Single Player mode again to earn the new rewards? It will soon be possible to replay Single Player levels that you have already completed, however it is not possible to be rewarded for any level you have already completed. Do the rewards for the first 30 levels stay as they are currently? No, the level up rewards are being entirely replaced with the new feature that allows you to pick a card that you currently don’t own. We may, however, re-introduce some of the cosmetics as rewards for other activities in the future. You will still keep the cosmetics from these current rewards if you have already earned them before the update. I want to delete my account to start again with a new one. At this time we cannot offer this ability. If you wish to have your information removed from our databases, please contact support@abrakam.com, however we are not able to guarantee you will be able to create a new account with your same Steam ID afterwards, so we wouldn’t recommend requesting this unless you no longer wish to play Faeria. What will the Starter Pack contain, will it allow us to see at least know some of the cards we’d be getting? We won’t be revealing the full details of Starter Packs until version 0.9 goes live, but no it won’t be possible to know what cards you might get before hand. How will the Pandora changes affect me? What happens if I own Pandora coins when they change price in the store? For each Pandora coin you own at the time of this update you will receive 50 gold as compensation for the new, decreased price. What will happen to active Pandora runs when this update comes out, and at the end of each Pandora season? With our update on October 12th, any active Pandora runs will automatically ended, and you will be given one free Pandora coin as well as being rewarded for the run based on the current system. Under the new system, Pandora runs will not automatically end at the end of each season. If you want an active run to count towards the current season’s Pandora Points, you will need to finish it prior to the end of the season. You can read more about our new Pandora seasons here. Can you lose Pandora Points? You cannot lose Pandora Points during the season. At the end of each season all Pandora Points are reset to 0 and you will be rewarded based on how many you earned during the previous season. I only want to play Pandora. If I draft what I consider to be a poor deck, what’s the point in me playing longer than 2 wins as the Battle Chests are of no use to me? If you manage to carry the streak further there is even more Gold available to win. Additionally, by accumulating Pandora Points you have a chance of earning even more rewards at the end of the season. We also hope that the thrill of aiming for a 9 win Pandora run will mean something to many of you! What rewards will be given for Pandora Points? We will be announcing these details when the update launches. Pandora Points seem to reward those who play the most, not necessarily who plays the best, is this correct? Pandora Points have been designed to reward your time spent in the game as generously as possible, and as such will allow you to earn more rewards based on both how much Pandora you play, but also how well you do. How exactly will these new features work? Will there be some sort of UI hint that indicates whether a card from a Battle Chest is still needed to complete my collection so that I can make an informed decision when choosing to re-roll? Yes, the quantity you own of the highest rarity card(s) will be displayed for you to decide whether to re-roll or not. If you re-roll a Mythic in a chest, will you be guaranteed to get another Mythic? Yes. How much will Mythic Chests cost? This will be announced with the launch of version 0.9. What if I already have all cards of the rarity that I get assigned on completion of a level? If you have all the cards of a rarity and happen to receive a card from that rarity for leveling up, you will receive compensation in gold instead of a card. General questions Will future expansions be a single purchase? Expansions will not be available as a single purchase when they launch, but after some time we may change this for some expansion sets to help new players enter the game. What if I don’t have time to grind, what affordable buy-in will Faeria have? We are working on making both grinding and purchasable items offer as much value as possible. We think our new Battle Chests, Starter Packs, and Gold Fountain will all provide great value. Will there be new cards or a balance changes released with version 0.9? There will not be any new cards in 0.9, however we have stated that a minimum of 10 new cards will be added to the Core Set by the time we launch 1.0 in a few months. Balance is something we are monitoring on a daily basis, at this time we don’t have any details to share about when the next balance patch will arrive. Do you plan to add more free content to Solo Mode, other than the puzzles? We are working on more content for the Single Player mode, but don’t yet have any further details to share. We’ve tried to cover every type of question that was asked, there were a lot of questions asking the same thing in different ways, however some were simply answerable with:
If you have any further questions or thoughts then please don’t hesitate to ask. Thank you all for helping make Faeria the awesome game it is, we look forward to the future and are excited about the possibilities open to us.

We will be compiling your questions over the weekend and address them all in one big batch early next week. We want to make sure we're answering as accurately and clearly as possible. In the mean time, please feel free to continue openly sharing your thoughts with us, as you always do. The rewards of a Pandora Run are now:
Phantom Runs The goal of the Phantom Runs is to let our players experience Faeria’s Pandora mode each day, for free, with the main reward being a piece of a Pandora Run. A Phantom Run is now as following:
Based on the feedback that we received from you, we are also updating the matchmaking algorithm for Pandora to create a MMR-like score per run, based on your number of Wins and Losses. We are very excited by v0.9 and we hope that you are too! Also make sure that you read more about it here! - The Faeria Team |

A little bit about what we've been working on, and some clarification on our mulligan system. Can you guess which card is getting the new art below?
What's to come One of the most common questions we get is: "What's coming next?" As mentioned in our Roadmap post in late July, we have a lot of work ahead of us before we're ready to exit Early Access. We generally try and avoid revealing too much about our tasty new features until they're well out of the oven and ready to share with everyone. It makes our big patches more exciting and keeps development fluid. It's not great to announce "Krog is getting a new T-shirt," only to find out a week later that maybe giving Krog that new T-shirt isn't such a great idea, or that maybe he should wear a sweater instead. In such a case, we have to be the bearer of bad news and let everyone know that Krog won't be getting that T-shirt so many players already fell in love with, after all. Rest assured that we, as always, have a lot of features coming down the pipe - many of which were raised in priority, or added high on the "to-do" list thanks to community feedback. What you share with us really can change our direction significantly at times. Keep it up! Mulligan numbers "Why do I so often redraw the same card during a Mulligan?" It's a common question we're asked. So common, in fact, that we ran some tests to be sure there weren't any problems with the mulligan system. So far, we've found it to be working 100% as expected - and suspect this may mostly be somewhat of a perception issue, negativity bias, or even a misunderstanding of how our mulligan system works. In Faeria, as in many "real world" card games, when you select a card to be mulliganed, you shuffle it back into your deck before you redraw another card. This means it is completely possible to redraw that same card, or even another like it from your deck. The lack of an animation showing you this may lead to some confusion here. Let's go into some numbers that may be helpful. ⚠️WARNING: DANGEROUS MATHS AHEAD.⚠️ Let's say you mulligan all three cards you're presented with, and your deck consists of 30 unique cards. The odds you see at least one of those cards again after redrawing are about 28%. In other words, a little less than a third of the time you're going to see the same card again. Now let's say your deck has 3 of each card, or 10 unique cards in the entire deck. If you mulligan all 3 of your cards, there is a 67% chance you're going to see at least one of those cards return to your hand. If you have a deck with 3 of each card, keep two cards, and mulligan only one, the odds to redraw that card or one of the same type are about 10.7%. Why not make it so the card you mulligan isn't shuffled back into the deck? This would solve a lot of the negative feelings associated with this specific problem, but otherwise significantly impact the balance of the game as a whole and the pool of decks that are generally reliable to construct. Suddenly, you'd be much more able to tailor your starting hand and have that "perfect rush start" or "perfect combo" most of the time, or at least more of the time. This is the same reason we were hesitant to implement the new mulligan system as-is. (Remember, not so long ago in Faeria, mulligans were all or nothing.) It's also part of the same reason players start with only 3 cards and not 4, though that also has to do with simplifying the amount of starting options a player is presented with. We're talking about the fundamental mechanics of Faeria here - the subtle things ticking under the hood that keep everything in delicate balance. Change such load-bearing variables and the consequences are not small. Anyway, if you still think you're seeing odd Mulligan behavior, please continue to let us know - but try and keep the numbers above in mind. If things still seem way out of whack to you, we need to know! Monthly Cup and ESL It's time for Monthly Cup qualifiers again. Watch them streamed live this weekend on https://www.twitch.tv/itscappuccino, the current #1 Ranked God! Note that our esports website has been loading a little slowly lately. It's a known issue that we're working on. Thank you for your patience. This Sunday is also the last ESL Go4Faeria Cup for September. Register and play to earn your points and qualify for the $400 finals! You can find current point standings here. By the way, you may have noticed some familiar faces strewn throughout this news post. They're part of our new set of BetterTTV emotes that are on their way, which are tied to our Discord channel. If you want to use them in Twitch chat, you'll need to install the BTTV browser extension. Have a fantastic weekend. -Gary (@Atmaz) |

Sunday, September 11th:
How do I hatch my Egg? If you own an Egg, you need only check back from time to time in-game to see if it has hatched. If you are connected to Faeria you have a slightly higher chance for your Egg to hatch than if you are not. If you have been lucky enough to have another Egg coupon laying around, you may even be able to hatch more than one during the hatching period. Note, however, that chances to hatch any Eggs past the first one become much smaller during the same hatching period. If your Egg is ready to hatch, you will see this button appear on the main menu. Click it to initiate the hatching process. We recommend you stay at a safe distance until it is complete. What will hatch from my Egg? Powerful magic sealed away the content of these Eggs long ago. Who can say what they contain? What happens between you and the Egg is your business alone. Watch the Monthly Cup and win prizes! The next Monthly Cup begins tomorrow, Saturday September 10th, at 4pm CEST on our FaeriaTV Twitch channel. During the Monthly Cup you will have an opportunity to win prizes, including another Egg, by watching the stream with a Twitch account that is linked to Steam. Follow these instructions to link your Twitch account to Steam. It’s very easy and takes only a moment. Once your accounts are linked, you are now ready to watch and increase your "Egg Timer". Remember, you cannot win any prizes if your Twitch account is not linked to Steam. We will be keeping track of those who watch a set of approved streaming channels on Twitch. Every single minute you are watching one of the approved Egg streams, your Egg Timer will increase. The higher your Egg Timer, the more chances to win more valuable prizes. Every 30 minutes, prizes are distributed to active viewers based on the value of Egg Timers. Prizes will be sent to the email address linked to your Faeria account. Approved Egg Streams Watch these channels during the finals to increase your Egg Timer. Note: Watching more than one stream at once does not increase your Egg Timer any faster. Egg Timer values These values have been slightly tweaked to allow for obtaining an Egg much sooner into your viewing experience. Raise your Egg Timer to the following amounts to be eligible for the associated prize.
Note: You may only win one of each of the four prizes. There is no way to check your Egg timer, but know that if you are watching the stream and your Twitch account is linked to Steam, your timer is certainly given credit. Core Set Survey Shifting gears slightly, we're interested in gathering feedback at this time on how important the ability to purchase the "Core Set" in-game is to you, as a player of Faeria. This is a big deal, and we need to hear your voice on it. Several factors have made us consider that keeping the ability to buy our Core Set for a one-off price might not be the best choice, contrary to our previous thoughts and, therefore, communications on this subject. We have heard feedback both from players who purchased the Core Set then later felt that it took something away from the excitement of the game for them, and also from F2P players who feel it gives paying players too much of an advantage. That said, we understand that removing the ability to purchase the Core Set would be a big decision, and a complete change of policy on something we have previously stated will stay in the game, and as such we want to make sure we hear your opinions now rather than rush into any decision. As always we want to make Faeria in the image our community wants, so if you have any thoughts on this subject, please take this opportunity to let us know so that we can have the best understanding of the community's feelings as possible. Please fill out the following brief form to let us know what you think. As always, we thank you for helping us make Faeria even better. Final Monthly Cup Special Guest With the ESL Go4Faeria Cups in full swing, we're proud to have Kuma participate in tomorrow's Monthly Cup! Kuma is a competitive Hearthstone player, coach, and ESL Caster. You can watch his Twitch channel right here, and he'll be streaming his games during the tournament tomorrow. By the way, you'll notice that we have new deck registration buttons for our different events. Register your decks for the ESL Cup this Sunday using the above button on the main menu when it appears in game. May your weekend be sunny-side up.

Announcing a new Faeria tournament series, and taking a brief moment to rest and enjoy the Free-to-Play launch! |
At long last, Faeria is now completely free to download. And that's not all, read on to find out everything else arriving in today's update!
As a note, the ability to upgrade into the Early-Access bundle from our in-game store did not quite make it into this version due to technical reasons, but will be coming soon. The Eggs are hatching It's happening. In celebration of the Free-to-play release, your existing eggs will hatch between the dates of September 10th and 11th, the weekend of our next official $3300 Monthly Cup. During this period, players will once again have the opportunity to gather more eggs by watching the Twitch stream of the tournament. Yes, this means if your egg hatches you will be able to incubate another and wait the next hatching period. What will your egg hatch into? You'll have to wait and see.

...Oh, you want to play? It's not too late to register: Click here to sign up for Saturday's qualifier Make land? wat do? https://faeriapublic.s3.amazonaws.com/newsletters/Aug192016_testing/basic-land.png Having trouble deciding where to place your lands? It's okay, you're not alone - it's one of the important pieces of basic strategy in Faeria that appears simple on the surface, but can have an incredibly subtle impact on the flow of the entire game. Don't cave in from the pressure, though. Aquablad from PlayFaeria.com has put together an excellent video for those who would like to learn more about this delicate operation. Click the image above to give it a watch. Solo content in testing As we mentioned in our Free-to-play announcement for August 24th, a heap of new solo content will be making its way into the game very soon. We are currently in the final phases of testing it and working out the final kinks before it makes its way to the masses. We've had our ears to the door listening to a lot of chatter regarding the upcoming content, and we'd like to continue to manage everyone's expectations in this regard. We are very excited about the new solo experience we'll be introducing, but it will not be a traditional "story mode" or campaign where you move your token along a world map, as we've heard a few players speculate. We're going about it a slightly different way for now. As mentioned previously, the new content will offer a variety of challenges to complete - geared initially toward beginners, but ramping up slowly into more challenging and varied scenarios as you progress. These scenarios will introduce you to new characters within the Faeria universe and play out as individual bite-sized, tasty pieces. It's a very unique experience, and we think you'll enjoy it. We plan on expanding this content more and more as time goes on, and we have full intentions of working as much story and lore into the solo content as possible, as we know a lot of our players desire. ------------------------------------------------------- Get ready for next week. Once Pandora awakens:
For a full list of Treasures you can check out PlayFaeria.com or Faeria.GamersOrigin.com, but here are three to give you a taste: Why Have We Made These Changes To Pandora? We want Pandora to offer maximum excitement, increased uncertainty and the chance to see come backs late in the game, and we are confident that Treasures deliver exactly this, without adding random elements through-out the game that would feel out of place. Artifacts in the old Pandora mode could slip into your game without warning, potentially overshadowing players’ strategies and drafts. Unlike the old Artifacts, Treasures are drafted by players, who can then decide if and when to spend faeria playing them. We’ve made sure that Treasures can be worked into certain strategies, and will have an important and intriguing place in your decks, in a way that we never envisioned with Artifacts in the previous versions of Pandora. Sudden Death! Think of Pandora awakening as a ‘sudden death mode’, more than anything else. Because Treasures are only drawn after Pandora awakens, they can only influence the last turns of a game. This way, the early-mid game really feels like constructed Faeria, and it’s possible to finish the game even before Pandora awakens, if you are fast enough. But when Pandora does awaken, the increased faeria per round, well depletion and the mighty Treasures can change the outcome to produce to an exciting and memorable climax. What’s Next For Pandora? As mentioned above, we will keep listening to your feedback. But changes to Pandora aren’t limited to drafting and gameplay, we are also looking to introduce a new ranking system in the future, as requested by the community. We are currently studying several different possibilities, but right now we don’t want to remove the current ranking system until we have a new system designed and ready to replace it. If you have any thoughts or suggestions on this topic, all ideas are very welcome! Let us know your thoughts in this boards post. Due to the nature of this update, current Pandora runs will no longer be valid - however, we are giving every user one free Pandora coin to start your first run in the updated mode. Each of these versions will come with an important milestone, feature, or improvement that warrants such a change of the most significant digit. In the next few weeks we will reveal the exact date Faeria will be going Free to Play. The release of Free to Play will coincide with what we will be declaring to be version v0.8. Version 1.0 (and the end of Early Access) is expected to be ready within the next 6 months, which places v0.9 somewhere in between. While we aren't spoiling the specific details of what to expect for each of these version numbers, we can tell you that there will be at least 10 new cards added between now and v1.0. As with Three Wishes, all cards added during the Early Access period will count as part of the "core set" and will therefore be given free to anyone who purchases or has purchased the current Core Set. After the end of Early Access, the price of the core set (with all of the newly added cards) will change to $75, however if you want to purchase it at the current price of $50 you can certainly still do this until v1.0. The first expansion cards Any new cards released after v1.0 will come as part of expansions. Cards released in expansions will not be a part of the core set, and will not be available to purchase directly in the way that the core set currently is. We know everyone is hungry for more details regarding expansions, and we of course will share more information about these when the time comes closer. For now, please understand that driving expansion content will be one of our primary focuses after release. We recognize the importance of putting shiny new toys into the toy box as often as possible. The first full-blown expansion can be expected within a few months of the release of v1.0. Pandora Pandora has, and still is, being vigorously tested and we'll give you news on the upcoming update very soon! Steam store page update We have recently updated our Steam store page to reflect the above information more clearly. In the process of doing this, we have shifted around some of the previously listed features we hoped would make it into v1.0, but now are slated as post-release content or features. In addition to this, a couple things have been removed altogether in order for the Steam store page to match up more completely with our current development plans. Fully integrated tournaments, console, and mobile versions have been pushed to post v1.0 development, while betting in-game currency on matches and server-unique cards have been removed from the list of stops on our roadmap. It's not to say that these two features will never make it into the game, but after understanding more about what our players really need it's become clear to us that these components are not critical features needed in Faeria. There are some great additions on our internal roadmap that aren't yet announced, but if you have specific feature requests that you haven't already told us about, why not write something in this thread on our Boards We hope you now have a more complete picture of what to expect for the rest of our Early Access period and beyond. If you've read this far, you clearly have a vested interest in Faeria's future, and we thank you for that. We think it's very important to keep you as up to date as possible in our ever-evolving development schedule. As always: Keep doing what you're doing, and let us know what you think. With the first Monthly Cup complete, we're already moving on to the next! These things do happen monthly, after all. We've also got a few exciting changes to discuss.
The tournament was a great success, and a lot of fun. You can watch a recording of the entire tournament on Twitch, right here. Friends list issues We have been receiving a lot of reports where some players are unable to add each other to their friends list since the last client patch. We've recognized that a problem does exist, and will be patching it this week. In the meantime, sorry for the inconvenience! Esports landing page Esports.faeria.com is back to your regularly scheduled format, and you may now Vote for Your Favorite and track the Highest Gods. Make sure to sign up for this weekend's Qualifier if you're interested! Next Monthly Cup and Invited Guests Based on feedback we've been getting from players (and in the interest of spicing things up a bit), we'll be making some changes to the next Monthly Cup.
(Both players have recently formed their own team together. Introducing: Apex!)
Seeding arrangement:
Prize distribution: We've also had some feedback regarding prize distribution, and will be looking to making changes to this in the future. Rather than decrease the current amount of winnings to the top finishers, we'd instead like to increase the total prize pool and distribute that amount to the next highest finishers. While these changes likely won't make it in the for next cup, it's something currently on the discussion table. Thanks for reading!

Introducing the PlayFaeria open, and the final Monthly Cup invitee!
Check out the link above for more information. PlayFaeria.com is now not only a great community resource for articles and guides - but is now a place to participate in easily accessible tournaments. Final Monthly Cup Guest Popular 26 year old Russian streamer and strategy/card game player Happa will be filling the final invitee slot on our first ever Monthly Cup, starting tomorrow at 4pm CEST! Brackets will be posted tomorrow on the official Battlefy page, once player registrations have been finalized. If you missed the previous news post about the Monthly Cup and the return of the Egg, please click here. Short and sweet, today! Gotta get ready for the cup. Keep an eye out for a client patch next week. You'll notice a few art teasers in the news banners today. -Gary (@Atmaz) |
A small update will be made to Three Wishes today, as announced on our Discord channel earlier this week. Next week will be a much larger client patch.
The following artifacts of Pandora will no longer appear in game:
These Pandora changes actually were made earlier this week without a need for a client patch, but we chose to document them here. Thank you for your feedback on Pandora artifacts in general, and you can expect more significant adjustments to come. We have much more fundamental changes coming in the future, but for now we'd like to remove these shards from the Pandora experience. Note: We have a much larger client patch incoming for next week which, among other things, will improve the flow of the initial login process for a new player, and open the door for more user account control in the future. The changes are significant enough to warrant more testing, so we will not be pushing them forward before the weekend.

It's here! The first Monthly Cup begins this weekend.
The Return of the Egg The Egg is returning. You thought it was gone, but no. The Egg is ever-watching, ever-hatching. Its companion, the Dragon Orb, must also return to protect it. Watch either of the streams above to raise your egg timer. Every 30 minutes, rewards will be randomly sent out to anyone who qualifies. We've reduced the Egg Timer requirement this time, meaning your rewards will scale even quicker - bringing you closer to the Egg with each heartbeat.
How do I become worthy of the Egg and its secrets? Firstly, you will need to link Twitch to your Steam Account. Follow the previous link for further instructions. It’s very easy and takes only a moment. Once your accounts are linked, you are now ready to watch and increase your Egg Timer. Every single minute you are watching one of the approved, oviparous streams, your Egg Timer will increase. The higher your Egg Timer, the more chances to win more valuable prizes. Every 30 minutes, prizes are distributed to active viewers based on the value of Egg Timers. Prizes will be sent to the email address linked to your Faeria account. If you already have an Egg, you may do with the code what you wish. Pandora reset Due to a bug, Pandora ranks have been reset as if it were a new season. This was not intentional, and Pandora is still considered to be in "Pre-Season" as we continue to rework its ranking system and develop something more suitable. Since the Pandora ranks have been reset, we will be providing a one-time reward for Pandora ranks as follows:
These rewards have automatically been distributed. In ADDITION to this, due to overwhelming player feedback, we will retroactively be awarding the basic Ranked seasonal card back to all God ranks, meaning God ranks of any season will receive both backs from now on instead of just the upgraded version. Next qualifiers: The dates of the qualifiers for the next Monthly Cup are July 16th and July 30th.
|
Season Two is already almost ending, and we have our next invitee to announce. This month charged by like a Wind Soldier.
Rank 15 or better receives:
God ranks receive:
This season, you may notice some fancy glowing animations on these card backs. Remember, the Ranked season ends on the first Monday of every month at 12:00pm Noon CEST. That places this season's end on July 4th, which is also the last day of the Steam Summer Sale that is currently in full swing! We'll be closing the Vote For Your Favorite in the Monthly Cup at 11:59 CEST the night before on July 3rd - so get your votes in while you can for your favorite player to compete. Note: Pandora currently does not have seasons, and the current temporary ranking system is still under evaluation and development. First Monthly Cup: July 9th We already have our 16 players from the open qualifiers this month and 3 special invitees. We'll know the next 12 after this coming Monday. The following days will proceed as follows:
A common question we're asked is, "How does it work if someone is already qualified and is Voted into the Top 4, or makes it into the Top 8 Gods?" Excellent question. The precedence goes in the ordering that players have qualified. Open qualifiers are determined first, then Votes, then God Ranks. Anyone having already qualified will cede their spot to the next player in the next list. For example, popular Korean player Gravekper has recently qualified in the tournament last weekend, but is currently number 4 in the Vote list. Should he remain in the Top 4, he will be passing his spot to the next in line on that list. Simple as that. Of those 16 qualified players, anyone who is also in the Top 8 God ranks will then pass their spot to the next in the list. In the end, we will end up with 32 unique players for our Monthly Cup. Then we get ready for the next one! For those interested. the Open Qualifiers for next season's Monthly Cup will take place July 16th and July 30th. Coil Gaming's Lunar Rumble While there's no Monthly Cup tournament this weekend, there's still an outlet to satisfy your desire for competition. Coil Gaming will be hosting the 6th Lunar Rumble this Saturday. Head to that Battlefy link to sign up for free and compete for in-game gold, Pandora coins, and most importantly - fun! It would be a great way to feel out the initial results of the latest balance patch. Have a great weekend. - Gary (@Atmaz) |
Game Reward Changes:
Balance Changes and Card Reworks
Transformation Interactions: A consistency issue has been corrected involving Protection and Haste: Transforming into a creature with Protection now gives Protection and transforming into a creature with Haste now gives Haste. The reverse of this is also true: transforming a creature with Haste or Protection into one without loses its Haste or Protection. Yes, this means after transforming a Ninja Toad, the new creature will no longer be able to attack (Unless it is transformed into a creature with Haste). We realize this is a big interaction change for those used to the current game mechanics, but it's a behavior we've wanted to make more consistent for some time now, and we hope it now makes more logical sense. We consider tokens on the board to be "entities." Entities may be a creature or structure and have any number of "characteristics," like Protection, Ranged, or Flying. When transforming an entity, creatures take on the characteristic(s) of the creature they transform into. For instance, when a Ranged creature transforms into a creature without Ranged, it can no longer attack from range. Whether or not that entity can attack or activate at all depends on the normal rules of summoning sickness- unless the new creature happens to have the characteristic of Haste. Therefore, when a Haste creature is now transformed into a non-Haste creature, it no longer can attack if it was summoned the same turn. The same now holds true for Protection, and creatures will gain or lose it after transformation depending on their characteristics. This should now make all transformation effects and Keyword behavior consistent in logic across the board. This patch introduces "Seasonal" Elo to the Ranked ladder, periodic rating decay, as well as a few bug fixes for cards.
Bug fixes
What is Seasonal Rating? A Seasonal Rating system is being added on top of the current rating system. The overall purpose of implementing Seasonal Rating is to allow the ladder positions of each season to remain fresh, while still matching players against one another according to their skill levels. Each player will now have two Elo ratings - their public "Seasonal Elo" which is the official ranking and will be displayed on our eSports website as normal, and a hidden "Matchmaking Elo" which the game server will use to match players against one another. Seasonal Rating is different from Matchmaking Rating in three ways:
The first thing you should know about Seasonal Rating is that your current rating will remain the same after today's patch, and you will remain the same place you are currently in the ladder. After today, a new Rating Decay system will be in effect. While we cannot reveal the exact details of how the decay is calculated or applied to prevent abuse of the system, it works by slightly reducing your Seasonal Elo after a certain period of time of playing no games. You can avoid any rating decay at all by following the Golden Rule: The Golden Rule of Rating Decay In Ranked or Pandora, from the beginning of a season - play one game every three days and you will never experience any Rating Decay. It's that simple! Note that in today's update, everyone is starting fresh as far as rating decay is concerned. Decay will only begin to accumulate after today. ------------------------------------------------------ Thanks, everybody. As a side note, we have moved the announcements for the special invitees in the Monthly Cup to Fridays, to correspond with each Faeria Friday. This means this week's announcement will be delayed by two days. Have a good day!

We seem to have a lot going on lately, so here's a post nicely summing up all of the recent yaktivity surrounding Faeria.
Finally, here is the list of participants (as of now) for the $300 Top 8 tournament from Season One, occurring on June 18th:
*Note: Though Kleas did reach #8 in the final standings, he is unable to attend the tournament and Afterstar will be given his place. Any players who are further unable to make it will give their spots to the next in line. Whew, okay! I think that covers everything. See you next week. - Gary(@Atmaz) |

Alternate accounts, and the Voting system: Please read our updated Terms of Service regarding the new voting system and our alternate account policy. Season One Top God tournament Don't forget, we will still be hosting a smaller, $300 tournament for the Top 8 Gods of Season One, which will be following the same format rules as the upcoming Monthly Cup, including Pantheon. The date of this event will soon be announced, but it will happen soon after Season One has ended. We should also mention that we haven't completely discarded the idea of tossing in Pandora format for the Monthly Cup here and there. For now, we will be focusing completely on constructed. For now, get ready for Season Two!

Announcing an upcoming God rank tournament, and an in-depth discussion regarding Pandora.
Let's talk about the first point. How do you actually approach variety in a limited environment? We didn't want to design a drafting game where a card's general "value" primarily dictates the cards chosen. A drafting environment that is all about drafting value can feel nice because it makes the structure of the card base readable, which creates a sense of comfort for the players. On the other hand, drafting in such an environment gets repetitive very fast and doesn't significantly challenge a player's deck building skills. Drafting should challenge the player's ability to maximize synergies between cards. The goal was to create a sufficient variety of synergies in the card base in order to set the right balance between value-drafting and synergy-drafting. Now, on to the second and third points. These design challenges were handled with a somewhat non-classic approach. Initially, there was absolutely no plan to make Pandora's core gameplay any different from the constructed experience. We knew that option was viable, and would be in fact the easiest way to implement the gameplay model. Pandora has been in development for two years - not continuous development of course, but it's been a discussion and design topic at Abrakam for at least that long. We've played a ton of Pandora. It's only recently that we came to the conclusion that Faeria simply doesn't work properly in limited. The general gameplay was way too "controlly," and as a result - games lasted over 25 minutes consistently. It's not surprising after all: the Faeria Wells act as magnets, offering an infinite potential of resource advantage. Combine this with an environment where decks tend to lack focus and you get a game mode where all you want to do is to draft the creatures that are best at collecting Faeria, stalling the game until you've stockpiled enough value to mathematically be the winner. To be honest: That gameplay is simply miserable, and we refused to admit it for a long time. The problem in a limited environment is that aggressive decks are inherently weaker when you can't fine-tune your decklist to its maximum potential. We've intentionally balanced aggro decks to be "OKAY" in constructed, or in other words - just viable enough. You can imagine how much harder it is to make decks like that work in a limited format when you cannot automatically select 3 Khalim's Follower's, 3 Khalim's Prayer's, etc... Therefore, we had reached a dead end. We had to think out of the box, no pun intended. Simply put: We found that there was a brighter future for Pandora if we accepted to change the core rules of Faeria itself. We iterated and tested several game systems with the assistance of our ever-helpful Vanguard testers, and that's how we ended up with Faeria Wells depleting and a doubled economy. The last remaining Pandora features to explain are the "Artifacts of Pandora". These were necessary to fulfill the third design goal: maximize the excitement of playing Faeria. Why do you keep playing a game? Why do you keep watching someone playing a game, or even, what makes you want to see the next episode of a television series? Conversely, when an outcome is already certain, where's the point to continue playing or watching? Our lust to clear up uncertainties is inexplicable, yet it's a strong psychological trait we all share. It is in fact the meat and bones of a card game: the fun of drawing a card each turn is purely about clearing up an uncertainty. That uncertainty will offer you a new solution and will challenge your opponent in an unexpected way. Pandora's artifacts were created with this in mind. They help us keep players interested in the game, in fact - they let us tap into the fundamentals of card game psychology even more thoroughly than normal. Additionally, supported by our recent statistics after releasing the game mode, the win rates in Pandora and Constructed tend to coincide. It confirms for us that we haven't broken the skill barrier in Faeria. Luck doesn't decide most of the outcomes because Pandora is about adapting to cards you get to draft from and the constant changes brought by the artifacts during a game. That said, it's important to know that we're still in a observational stage for this game mode. We analyze as much data and feedback as possible regarding Pandora. There might be further adjustments to the system, changes in artifacts, etc. The good news is that it's much easier to tweak a limited mode than a constructed one - because the player's don't own the cards. ;) Thank you for reading this far, and please continue to know that we value your support and feedback highly. Even if we can't respond to each person, our ears are wide open, especially when listening to anything regarding this important game mode we have invested a lot of love and care into. Weekly Top 30 -The Faeria Team |
Several new features, Pandora adjustments, more new art, and balance changes!
Pandora artifacts have changed slightly in functionality:
Notes: After much internal discussion, the improved reward system will not be entering the game this week as we mentioned earlier. We have determined there are several important steps to take to make sure this reward system is the best fit for Faeria. We also want to make it clear we've been listening to the heavy amount of feedback following Pandora's release. Read more about that and our overall goals for Pandora in today’s Faeria Friday post. Bug fixes
Time banks are persistent throughout the entire tournament match, and provide 12 minutes of time for each possible game. For example, a Best of 3 match provides 36 minutes total for each player across all games. If the Time bank expires, that player loses the match. These new tournament lobby features should hint to you more of the direction we intend for future official tournaments to take. As always, we will continue to improve and expand on this. New illustrations
Balance changes Tale of the Old Turtle +1 Faeria, +1 Lake Cost At its previous cost Tale of the Old Turtle provided a potential upside of +4f in addition to some serious card advantage. Initial testing implied that this was a powerhouse card, but that the chance of pulling a Ruby Fish, Aurora’s Dream or similar card kept the average power of the card well in check. The more we’ve tested it though, the more we’ve seen how oppressive the card can be now that so many cards have been buffed (reducing your chance of getting weak cards off the Tale). Increasing the faeria and lake costs by 1 makes the card a bigger commitment. It also helps make it even more distinct from Spellwhirl’s design. Wavecrash Colossus Old Version Wavecrash Colossus - 10f, 2L Creature Costs 2f less for each time you’ve gathered from an opponent’s well (minimum cost: 4f). 8/8 New Version Wavecrash Colossus - 8f, 2L Creature Costs 1f less for each time you’ve harvested from an opponent’s well (minimum cost: 4f). 7/7 Wavecrash Colossus was a bit too swingy and produced too much value too easily with the buffs to several of Blue’s high mobility cards. We decided to shift it to 4 harvests for max value instead of 3, as well as make the creature’s body equal to a Verduran Force (instead of being able to break the jolly green giant in a fight). We also changed the design to be based around 1f discounts instead of 2f ones to make the card less swingy (especially in pandora, where wells eventually deplete entirely). Rarity changes Triton Chef: Common to Epic Gabrian Noble: Epic to Rare Triton Diver: Rare to Common These rarity changes were made in order to fix a book keeping error that ended up with Triton Chef at Common instead of Epic. Naturally, the card giving you Triton Banquet should not be less rare than the card it gives you. We apologize for the temporary confusion, and will be applying a rarity refund as with the patch earlier this week. -The Faeria Team |
After 100,000 glorious Highlander battles, the long-awaited Pandora has opened. Let it begin.
Queuing for Pandora works much like any other mode. Pandora has a Ranking system very similar to the normal Ranked mode. You will continue to play with your Pandora deck until you accumulate three losses, or twelve wins. Once a Pandora match is found, however, there are some important things you should know. The Artifacts of Pandora Shuffled into each player's decks are various treasured artifacts. When these artifacts are drawn, they may have various effects on the battlefield or the player's hand, or do nothing at all. When an artifact is drawn, the player then draws another card. What can the artifacts do? All kinds of things. For instance: Mmmm, noodles. However, no matter what artifacts are drawn, when 5 total are assembled, Pandora opens. Think out of the Box When Pandora is opened:
How to get a Pandora coin Other than those you might already have accumulated through Early Access bundles or special events, a coin that lets you access Pandora will normally cost 200 gold. However, in addition to that option, completing any Daily Quest will reward you one Pandora coin. Yes, that means every day you can earn one Pandora coin for free. Why so generous? This is only a temporary model for accessing Pandora, in the interest of heavy playing and testing of the new game mode. It should be very easy and accessible for players to participate in at this time. The reward system we have also implemented is temporary. It does, however, reward you based on your performance. You will receive a fixed amount of gold per win. The more wins you get, the more gold you receive. Please note we have much more special rewards planned for Pandora. This is a temporary reward system. We expect to implement the first, small form of this special reward system *Note: Our apologies for the miscommunication, but the first implementation of the improved reward system will be implemented this Friday. The box has opened Enter Pandora. -The Faeria Team |
Pandora has awakened, and with it comes a slew of balance changes and card adjustments. Read on to find out more.
Balance changes Once again, this patch contains major balance and card adjustments. A full detailed explanation of these changes can be found here on our forums. How Rarity changes and disenchanting will work: As always, we will allow players to disenchant cards that have changed in design or reduced in power level for one week at full value. However, this gets a little trickier when we introduce changing card rarities. We have automatically applied the appropriate refunds for this with the update. Here is how it worked: For each account, we compute a "Memoria" balance:
Once again, this has all been done automatically. You should have nothing to worry about, and should be appropriately compensated for Rarity changes in the form of Memoria. Codex Changes Several changes have been made to the starter Codexes in-game. As the Fight for Pandora nears its end, we find ourselves on the brink of releasing a feature that the team has been working on for the better part of two years. Needless to say, releasing it will be a big deal for us, and we know it’s a big deal for you. Oh, and speaking of big deals... |
Last week, we moved our whole server infrastructure to Amazon in order to best support our players by placing them on servers that are geologically closer to them. Related to this move, we need to perform 2 hours of maintenance to increase the performance of our infrastructure as well as fixing a persistency issue. |
As announced last week, we are very proud to begin our next in-game event. This time, everyone will need to contribute in a war effort in order to unlock the very hyped PANDORA!
But that's not everything! The (in)famous Egg is back! As also mentioned last week, we have created the first Epic Quest that will allow the most worthy of you to collect the Egg and discover what it holds! What now? Jump into Faeria and Fight for Pandora! Full Disclosure: We also feel that it's worth mentioning that we have an internal bet running that our awesome community will achieve that in just a bit more than a week Balance patch notes It's also important to note we've made a change to Zealous Crusader today, as well as fixed a bug involving Windstorm Archer:
This should put Zealous Crusader in more of a spot where he may not be such a good idea to play in the early stages of the game, but can still be very powerful later on as you manage to sneak in jabs and pokes into the opponent's orb over time. As always, we will continue to monitor the state of the game and continue with balance adjustments as necessary.

Note: if you try to queue into matchmaking with Magda in your deck, you will be alerted the card is banned from play, and must remove the card from your deck before you may enter the queue. Green

Okay! That's it for the patch notes. Keep reading if you'd like a little insight on some of these changes. Developer insight It's been a few weeks since the last balance patch. We've had plenty of time to gather data, watch streams, and listen to feedback from players on the state of the game. We purposely held back on touching anything until the GO Clash finals were over, so as not to disrupt the players' preparation for this event. So, let's dig into it. Reactive cards This patch addresses a lot of our "reactive" cards. Ultimately, we have been observing a problem where players are hesitant to commit to the first move and push the game toward a conclusion. This is not what we want to see happening on a regular basis. Cards like Mirror Phantasm, Unbound Evolution, and Blazing Salamander are reactive cards. They are cards you tend to keep in hand until your opponent makes the first move, and then take advantage of it. It's important to have these types of interactions available in Faeria, but it's also important to make sure we don't put them in a place where they dictate the pace of the game so strongly. We've toned these cards down just a bit. Magda, Queen of the Forest A separate and completely different problem lied in Magda, Queen of Meroval. Simply put, using her in combination with Feed the Forest was just too powerful and punishing for the other player, often creating huge game swings in a not-so-interesting manner. When forced to choose between changing Magda or Feed the Forest, we think changing Magda is the smarter decision here. We generally like the sort of gameplay that Feed the Forest can create, and it feel's core to Green's philosophy in general. Another issue with the combination as a whole was how it tended to punish opponents for trying to exploit one of Green's natural weaknesses: The Apex Predator. Using Magda and Feed the Forest on an Apex Predator punished the other player so hard that it simply couldn't be played without risking instantly losing the game. The threat of the combo even existing also meant players would try avoiding a "clash of the titans" with giant creatures fighting on the field, and rather Feed away their biggest threats instead of risking exposing themselves to a Magda combo. It was a dance taking place that we believe wasn't very healthy for the game. Magda's ability was very unique, there was no real way of adjusting her without a complete redesign. We have something special planned for her, but it's going to take more time until she's ready for the public. Until then, you'll be unable to play games using decks that include Magda. Oakling Speaking of Feed the Forest, we've bumped Oakling down just a bit. Oakling is one of the creatures that, at one point, was far too slow to see any reliable use in a game. This is no longer the case. The game environment has changed quite a bit since then, and keeping Oakling at these incredible levels of value is no longer acceptable. As a side effect, the new Oakling will lose some synergy with "5 life matters" cards such as Ancient Boar. We still expect it to be a great card even after these changes. Blood Obelisk Oh, Blood Obelisk. How many times must we be forced to touch you? Even the last change to limit the Faeria gain to creatures only was not enough to put Obelisk in the right spot. We feel we've finally narrowed down a space for this structure to occupy, while not making it such a powerful engine that supports passive, defensive play so strongly. Windstorm Charger and Snowstorm Lancer Another big issue to tackle has been the situation with Windstorm Charger and Snowstorm Lancer. While these cards have existed for quite some time, there were some additions and changes to the library (Windborne, for example) that allowed players to construct decks that could destroy the opponent's Orb in one turn very early into the game and with little opportunity for the opponent to react. While we applaud the players who refined this strategy and mastered it, we can't realistically allow these sort of unstoppable wins to remain in the game. We really do like the sort of decks these cards promote, but wanted to move them to a spot where it takes at least two turns to destroy the opponent's orb using these units. Therefore, we have implemented an upper limit to the amount their attack can increase, and increased the stats of the Charger slightly to make it a more reliable unit otherwise. This should let decks built around events still trade in often for great value. Wild Growth Wild Growth no longer needs to remain at such a high cost now that the Green Colossus has been changed, along with several other card designs that no longer exist. We are comfortable at this point with stepping it back down and seeing what happens. Unbound Evolution When Unbound Evolution was at a cost of 1 Faeria it was an absurdly strong removal tool. Many cards at 6 and 7 Faeria costs rely on Gift abilties to be strong, and therefore have reduced stats. As a result, playing Unbound Evolution on a 5 or 6 Faeria enemy creature could routinely net you significant value, much more than we're comfortable with seeing. If the creature you were targeting had been buffed, it was even bigger. If it had had its cost reduced, it was even bigger. The card's potential massive swings in value were simply too high. Increasing the cost to 2 Faeria and Evolving by 2 forces the player to invest a bit more into the play and potentially evolve an opponent's creature into a stronger option that may not always be so easier to deal with. It brings it much closer into line with other removal options. On the other hand, being able to evolve your own creatures by 2 opens a world of more dynamic possibilities, which are now open to more decks since the card's Lake cost has been reduced. As a side effect, this also produces a pleasing pattern of paying 2 Faeria and 2 Lakes for a 2 cost evolution. Even better, everyone's favorite Ogre King is now likely to make an appearance on more battlefields, since using Unbound Evolution on any Dragon will now produce the mighty Krog. Ancient Herald Ancient Herald used to produce an absurd amount of value, and enabled very strong plays on turn one when using the Explore card. Before anything else, we decided we'd like to reduce the Gift's cost reduction to 2 Faeria. Additionally, there were a lot of situations developing in games where a Blue deck had already won the game, but was taking a very long time to actually end it. We wanted to push Blue's power into a place where it has more tools to push a game to its logical conclusion. The 5/5 stat block is basically a magic number that works toward this goal. Five attack means that it can kill you from 20 in 4 hits. Five life is when creatures stop being vulnerable to a single Bomb Slinger or Firebomb. The 1 Lake cost on this sizable body can allow new patterns of play to emerge where players rush to drop one of these ancient beasties next to their opponent's orb. This flexibility for control-oriented decks can reward great tactical play, and perhaps even spawn some more aggressive blue lists. That's a lot of interesting options in exchange for just changing a few numbers on a card. Zealous Crusader We love Zealous Crusader's gameplay. One thing we've noticed a lot in high level games is that the orbs are basically ignored for most of the game. Thanks to the raw economy gifted by controlling the Faeria wells, players often need to be rewarded with value to go aggressive. The Zealous Crusader is an excellent tool for encouraging this style of play, because it doesn't matter when you draw him. Draw him later in the game and you still get the benefits for attacking early. We wanted to push the crusader to "Tier 1" status. Originally we considered just the slightest of buffs. Possibly +1 life or +1 attack, or maybe charge 2. Ultimately though, we decided that we really wanted to push the envelope on this card. Slight buffs sometimes might get a card to the right level, but might not draw the attention of deckbuilders that a card deserves. Buffing Zealous Crusader this much might absolutely be over-the-top. It's a wild and exciting change. Yellow aggression has taken a lot of hits over the past few months, and we'd like to give it a chance to shine again. One more design thought here: You learn a lot more from risking over-buffing a card as compared to risking under-buffing it. If you don't buff it quite enough, the card still doesn't get played and you don't learn anything. If you accept the risk of over-buffing it, you can usually get things right in the next iteration. Time will tell with this noble Crusader. Watch out for him on the battlefield. Thanks for reading, and don't forget to talk about it on our forums!

We loved watching this tournament! Overall, we consider its success to have exceeded our expectations. The finals proceeded smoothly, due largely in part to the flexibility of our players and tournament administrators. We eagerly look forward to our next big competition, and of course are taking into consideration all feedback gathered in regards to future format changes or tournament structuring. Good games! Introducing monthly ladder seasons Speaking of competition, we'd like to begin working on Ranked play incentives to keep the ladder fresh and exciting. With this in mind, we will now begin setting back player Ranks on the ladder on the first Monday of each month, starting next month. The current Ranked season, which has lasted a few months now, will become known as the "pre-season." Therefore, the first ladder reset, and beginning of Season One will take place on: Monday, May 2nd at 12:00pm (Noon) CEST. The reset will work as follows: Every player's hidden Elo rating will be preserved. This means the hard work you put in each month will not completely be erased, and will prevent newer players from being matched against veterans at the beginning of a season. Remember, God ranks are sorted by player Elo rating, so if and when you breach back into the God rankings you will still be placed relative to this value. Player Ranks will be set to the following numbers:
For example, this means that if you were God rank this season, after the reset you will start again at Rank 10. If you played no games in Season One and remained at Rank 10 you would be moved to Rank 15 in Season Two. Of course, we wouldn't want to go forward with this in future seasons without rewarding you for your efforts. The goal of this system is to give a sense of achievement to players each month, as well as provide fresh incentive to keep playing. We know there is no better way to do this than implementing a system of rewards based on where you finish. Ranked Rewards The current pre-season will offer no rewards. However, we will be generating a full list of all God ranked players after the first reset, so your legend will not be forgotten. The following rewards will become available starting in Season One and on: Players achieving these ranks will receive the following rewards at the end of a season. Rank 20 or better
Rank 15 or better
God Ranks
It goes without saying that we will be monitoring this new system closely, and are open to all player feedback regarding these upcoming changes. We'd like to thank all of our players very much for participating in the pre-season, and hope to see you in many seasons to come. Thanks for reading. Let us know what you think by visiting our forums! -The Faeria Team |
