WNTGD Update News

Since the last announcement, there have been questions about the status of our upcoming update that we teased recently, and some pretty understandable confusion on why we didn't announce anything else the month we said we were going to... announce more stuff. I want to quickly address that here. First of all, I apologize to everyone for causing so much confusion with our last announcement post. Originally we were slated to have more to show that month, but development delays caused it to get pushed back repeatedly since, and we're currently still waiting on the go-ahead from third party sources before we can properly announce or reveal anything further. It's a mess caused by a bit of overly optimistic scheduling and an eagerness to share on my part, so again I do apologize, but rest assured that development is still underway! Happy Diving, Nick from Deli Interactive

The Quantum Update (v1.5)

[previewyoutube=wLdbAB_UfVo;full][/previewyoutube] A new biome has arrived, and it's chaos incarnate.

Features

 • NEW Biome: The Micro Depths- A chaotic new 2nd layer biome filled with microscopic monstrosities that aren't so microscopic any more. Behemoth viruses, bacteria, and protozoa populate these hazy waters, alongside the remnants of an atom-age experiment gone wrong.
 • NEW Enemies - The enlarged denizens of The Micro Depths are a uniquely erratic threat, with many able to replicate themselves, conglomerate together into self-healing configurations, or extend out sticky substances to drain anything that comes near.
 • NEW Affliction - The waters here are capable of changing the atomic structure of any who are exposed to it for extended periods, introducing a new affliction known as Atomic Disorder. Should you contract it, Atomic Disorder will rearrange your atoms into smaller or larger configurations at random.
 • NEW Boss - An enlarged protozoa known only as The Hydra guards the exit to these depths. If the wild flaying of its facial tendrils don't kill you first, one of its many budding offspring will.
 • NEW Civilization - The Micronauts' research base is said to still remain in these waters, alongside much of their abandoned equipment.

Additional Changes

 • Two new achievements have been added - Herculean and Mi-nope-sis.
 • Updated network tools - should result in possibly improved cross-platform support, as well as overall smoother experience connecting to lobbies.
 • Awakened Mode fix - Players should no longer be able to join Awakened Mode games in progress once they've started.
 • Fixed broken reference preventing the "not enough money" message from appearing in the catalog.
 • Atomique colliders reduced to allow it to fit in tighter spaces.
 • Backend for universal enemy spawning fixed, should result in more reliable event enemy spawn rates.

Buried Treasure Edition Add-ons

Those of you who own the Buried Treasure DLC have some new surprises in store! With the new biome comes two new music tracks that we've added to the soundtrack! In addition, we've also compiled together a Bonus Artbook PDF that showcases concept art and development history on We Need To Go Deeper's post-launch content! You get all this for FREE if you own the Buried Treasure DLC! ------------------ As always, let us know what you think of the new update! Happy Diving!

Deli Interactive's 2021 Roadmap

We'd be lying if we said the chaos that was 2020 didn't set our team back from where we wanted to be, but in the spirit of the new year, we're hitting the ground running and we wanted to let y'all know where we're heading! While you'll note that there are no dates listed here to keep our development schedule flexible, the general order and placement is more or less what we predict for the coming year for WNTGD and our latest project, Camp Canyonwood! First thing on the agenda is of course, delivering the new submarine we've been teasing out over the past few months, which now has a name - The Atomique. You'll be able to pilot this nuclear powerhouse very, very soon, as we'll be entering into the beta phase this month! Next, we have some serious fixes and improvements coming to WNTGD, focusing first and foremost on connectivity problems stemming from our current toolset's limitations, so migrating over to some new toolsets will be a priority. Meanwhile we're also preparing for Camp Canyonwood's first steps into its beta phase, and we couldn't be more excited to get it in the hands of real players! Development is picking up pace for our little summer camp simulator, and we've recently started a video devlog series to chronicle its progress! You can see the first episode here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEklknYTVH0 Later in the year you'll see we then have more content and changes coming to Deeper, which we'll start to talk about in more specifics as we come closer to their arrival. Thanks again everyone for your continued support, and we hope you'll enjoy what's to come!

Future Update News

Hey! So if you read our last update's announcement or else if you've ever visited one of our weekly developer streams, you may recall that we announced we were working on releasing a new DLC submarine. While that is still in progress, we have recently had to switch gears to focusing on implementing a new set of connection tools since, long story short, the ones we're using now (which we only had to switch to since Unity abandoned theirs) have proven themselves to not be quite up to the task at getting players connected reliably across different operating systems and network types.
While our network engineer Jordan dives back into the trenches to sort out the new system (thanks Unity), the rest of us will be focusing on a small free content update for We Need To Go Deeper to help tide folks over while the new submarine is in stasis. It will be focused largely on adding new run-based items that further mix up your future expeditions, including upgrades that should add some interesting new wrinkles to combat! We appreciate all the reports and logs folks have been sending to help us nail down the specifics of these issues. We deeply apologize to anyone who has been having difficulties getting connected with this most recent system, but we're doing everything we can to ensure the smoothest experience for everyone! Which is why we're pivoting to make this a priority! We're an incredibly small team so these things take more time than we'd like sometimes. Feel free to reach out to our team members directly if you ever want more hands-on assistance or have any pressing questions. New Network Beta is Live! (f1)

We just released a new beta that updates some of our networking tools. If you are having troubles connecting, give this beta a try! We may leave this in beta for a longer period to ensure stability on the main branch. Edit: New troubleshooting option added! If you can't connect with friends, you can now choose your relay server location under Technical Options. (Note: You do not have to be on the same relay server to connect to each other. Choose a different location if your automatically assigned one isn't working) As always, if you'd like to opt into the beta branch, here's how to do so: Right Click WNTGD in Steam Library > Properties > Betas > Select "beta" from dropdown. We know Mac users in particular have been running into troubles lately, so be sure and continue leaving reports for us in the forums, or email us directly at interactivedeli@gmail.com Happy Diving!

QOL Update #1 (v1.2)

IT'S ALIVE! We've been hard at work smacking the gears and tweaking bolts behind the scenes when we aren't cowering in our quarantine cave, but now the fruits of our labors are yours! YOURS! It's a Quality of Life Update! chemistrykit Read the full change-log below and stick around for a peek at what's next!

THE CHANGES. THE CHANGES!!

 • Connections Overhaul - A new connections system has been implemented, and as a result, connecting to other players should be a far more painless and reliable process! This was a nightmare!
 • Civilization Shop Names - Items available in civilization shops now display the name of the item on sale when examined, to better help new players identify items and make more informed choices.
 • Paperless Chat Text - A new option is available to remove the paper background from in-game chat, displaying instead crisp light text with a subtle drop shadow. Improves readability and just looks nicer if you prefer dark mode settings!
 • Obituary Improvements - Some subtle tweaks to obituary graphic elements to make them look a bit nicer, and added "titles" designating each player a personality trait to be remembered by.
 • New Achievements - 2 new achievements related to Awakened Mode have been added, one for beating the game in Awakened Mode, the other for capturing your first pet.
 • When in caves, bots asked to heal will now follow whoever needs healing the most.
 • Added an option to force relay connections for players who still have trouble with direct connection methods
 • Potential fix for the Diplomat Achievement not unlocking for some players.
 • Slightly increased the time chat messages remain on screen.
 • Removed UPNP options as these are no longer an issue
 • Fixed LAN lobbies not showing which vessel is in use
 • Reduced the number of online services our online play relies on from 3 to 2. Hooray for fewer points of failure!

What's Next

Now for a little peek at what we're working on next for WNTGD - our very first DLC Submarine! It doesn't have a name just yet, but it's shaping up to be quite the interesting (and hazardous) metal beast. Here's a look at its design concept!
Strange, no? We're excited to show more of our work as it develops, which you can peep early during our developer streams every Saturday, 12:00PM MST on our official Twitch Channel. Let us know what you think! Happy Diving!

Howdy fellow divers! We're just dropping the notes on another patch we put out to help smooth out issues from the latest update:

 • Fixed a bug where pets wouldn't delete after their player left the game
 • Added a failsafe for the Shambler to prevent players from being put into a dimension right as the server is cleaning it up.

The Awakened Update (v1.1) | New Game Mode, Pets, and More!

Awaken your senses in The Awakened Update! A brand new unlockable game mode, complete with new enemies, unlockable pets, and rules for those hungry for a fresh challenge. Full info below:
deeperskull New Game Mode: "Awakened Mode" After discovering the bottom, seasoned adventurers will find a peculiar "Wake Lantern" appearing in their catalog. This is your ticket into a brand new hardcore game mode with its own set of quirks and rewards.
deeperskull Perma-Perma Death: In Awakened Mode, you reveal the true nature of The Living Infinite through your wake lantern, but it comes at the cost of your mortal souls. Revival is no longer an option, once a crew member dies, they die for good. This also means players can't join an Awakened Mode game mid-way through, so make sure you have a full crew prepared before your voyage!
deeperskull New Foes: The truth of the lantern reveals new dangerous entities in each biome, and attracts attention from a terrifying presence - The Shambler.
deeperskull The Shambler: The Shambler will pursue your crew relentlessly throughout your journey. Though what it wants is uncertain, it certainly seems interested in taking your crew members to strange, alien dimensions, each with different properties. It can't be killed, so it's best to just stay out of its grasp.
deeperskull Pets: The lantern reveals more than just new dangers however, it also seems to cause a strange collision of realities, resulting in the creation of a wide variety of friendly critters. Find these reality collisions and break them open to reveal new unlockable friends - just know some accidents of nature are cuter than others...
deeperskull New Rank - Acolyte: Finally, for those who have dedicated themselves to the abyss long enough, a new rank awaits, along with two new horrifying rewards to honor their newfound dedication to the things that lie in the deep. ------------- Thanks again to all of the brave crews that tested the waters in the beta version, so that we can bring you the final version of We Need To Go Deeper's first free content update! Happy diving as always, and let us know what you think of the new content!

"The Awakened Update" (v1.1) Beta Now Live!

We Need To Go Deeper's first post-release content update is nearly ready, so now we turn to our community to help test the waters, so to speak. As these features are in beta, we warn that there may be new instabilities and issues in this branch, so only opt in if you want to help test the content. If you'd like to participate in the beta, right click WNTGD in your Steam Library > Properties > Betas > Select beta branch. What we have is essentially a brand new hardcore mode for those who seek new challenges after discovering the bottom, complete with new enemy types, rulesets, and rewards - all accessed through a mysterious lantern. Here's what you'll find inside the beta:

 • New "Awakened" game mode accessed through "Wake Lanterns" that appear for purchase in the catalog once the bottom has been discovered. This mode features new enemies, permanent player deaths (no revives), and opportunities to unlock "pets".
 • New "pet" option in customization, that allows players to bring earned "pets" with them on their adventures.
 • New 13th "Acolyte" rank and two new cosmetics to go with it.
We look forward to your feedback! Happy Diving, - Nick

As the leaves descend from the trees, so too does the vengeful Headless Horseman rise from his resting place, donning atop his head twisted mutations of the season's harvest! Only problem is - The Horseman's Heads have disappeared!
Legends say The Horseman's accursed Heads began spreading their own evil seed among the populace, spawning devilish plant-life throughout the world - including the very depths themselves! The Living Infinite is the latest to be infested with this bountiful harvest of hallowed fruit - and The Horseman will hunt down anyone who dares get in his way of reclaiming these lost heads!
Of course, there's always the possibility that someone will discover the lost Heads of the Horseman first, should they manage to overcome a plump pumpkiny fate. Even rarer are those that may come across and overcome The Horseman himself, and lay claim to his very own wardrobe! The Horseman will return to his grave on November 1st.

v1.0.0f1 Patch

Our first post 1.0 release patch is here, and should hopefully address some of the newer issues you've reported from the 1.0 update, as well as a few sticklers! Full change log below.

Change Log

 • Added extra safeguards to prevent "zombie lobbies" (lobbies that stay up after the game has ended) from popping up. This caused a larger fail rate when joining games since many had already ended but failed to close.
 • Added a fix for the DSR feature in some video cards causing crashes.
 • Fixed an issue causing machines to display an improper 640x480 resolution, related to our previous fix.
 • Fixed bots not always reviving correctly.
 • Fixed Med Bots only healing clients to 10 rather than full health.
 • Fixed cases where Stargazer enemy would fail to show up for clients.
 • Fixed certain resolution options setting incorrectly.
 • Fixed a few rare cases where "double joining" was possible.
 • First test case fix for the host/client revive bug. Let us know if this one stuck around or if it appears to be gone now!

Version 1.0 has LAUNCHED!

Check out our new Launch Trailer, lovingly crafted by Joshua Cauller! 2.5 years and 112 updates later, we have finally surfaced from the murky depths of Early Access! It's been quite the voyage these past 6 years going from college dorks messing around with a weird game idea in our mothers' basements (thanks mom!), to regular adult dorks actually bringing said idea to life alongside a dedicated community! And I mean it when I say this community has been crazy helpful, and a genuine partner in the collaborative process that is game development. Even the number of updates I mentioned above I only know offhand thanks to the constantly updated, fan-maintained Official Wiki. Not to mention the numerous Discord Bots, Modding Tools, and countless forum threads that all helped shape the game or its community growth in some way. As a matter of fact, here's a sample of some of the features that literally wouldn't exist without the community's suggestions and feedback. None of these were planned when we started out in Early Access, but the game is far better for them.

 • Lairs/Lair Guardian
 • The Trash Hermit
 • Fuel/Boosting
 • Torpedo Mods
 • The EMP
 • Bots/Recruitable NPCs
 • The Time Devourer
All in all, we couldn't be happier with how the Early Access program let us shape a better game together, and going forward we're still very interested in what the community would like to see in WNTGD's future! There's still more to come, and not knowing what could be is half the fun!

Buried Treasure Edition

You may have also noticed that there's a new special version of the game out now that comes with a bunch of cool bonus materials. I furnished a 197 page Art Book that covers the game's 6 year journey, and it includes the full soundtrack along with 13 bonus tracks!
Oh, and if you bought the game during Early Access, you get all of that for free as a thanks for your support! messagebottle You can find the bonus content in your regular WNTGD install location, in a folder entitled "Buried Treasure Bonus Materials"

Change Log (v1.0)

 • Added new Ancient Abyss track to its biome.
 • Fixed a bot regression in which they would frequently stop reviving players mid-revive.
 • Implemented global block list to combat persistent trolls.
 • Added intro cutscene.
 • Removed POTM banner.
 • Removed empty loadout slots.
 • Fixed Eldritch Staff relic not showing up in relics room.
 • Added two new message bottle relics.
 • Updated dynamite sound.
 • Fixed typo in dynamite description.
------------------------------------------------------------------------- Am I forgetting anything? Well, I hope you enjoy the finished product! Happy diving. deeperwrench

 • Fixed the healer jelly not reviving.
 • Fixed the submarine going in reverse after leaving a cave.
 • Fixed bots reviving after breaking distance with the skeletons.

 • Fixed the elder thing not shooting or biting properly.

Version 1.0 Launches August 1st!

As some of you may already know, our graduation from Early Access is soon upon us, scheduled for August 1st, less than a month from now! I'm not shaking, you're shaking. For those of you just arriving or who haven't heard, here's what to expect for 1.0 launch and beyond:

 • The base price will increase to $15.99! 'Cause we're worth it, baby.
 • New updates will still be coming! Just not on the monthly/weekly basis you Early Access folks are used to. But rest assured, there's more coming!
 • We'll be offering a super special, real cool, more expensive version of the game because isn't that what always happens. The Buried Treasure Edition will come with a PDF art book of all our miserable failed creations throughout development, and an expanded soundtrack with unused tracks.
 • Since it gets asked a lot, YES we will be considering paid DLC on top of the free post-launch updates, as these can help continue to support the game's ongoing life.
 • Leaderboards will be reset for full launch, so say a tearful goodbye to your current scores.
Whoo! Okay, I think that's the big stuff. What you can expect from us through the course of this next month is a steady stream of fixes and a few quality-of-life stuff, like the much-requested block feature for those persistent trolls, along with finishing-touches stuff like an intro cutscene! We're down in the nitty gritty now y'all. Get hype. On that note, we just pushed a few fixes for some broken achievements today, here are the ones that should be fixed now:
 • Put Your Little Hand In Mine
 • Deep Sea Diplomats
 • Resourceful
Happy diving as always, let us know what you want to see in WNTGD's future!

So with that, look below for our full list of changes!

The Bottom Update (0.9.7) | Final Encounter

This month, we have finally made it. The end game, the final encounter, what lurks at the bottom of The Living Infinite. We're very excited for you all to discover it. This is The Bottom Update. deeperskull

Features

The Final Encounter - An end-game encounter, complete with bizarre boss fights (yes, plural), cryptic messages, two new original tracks, and multiple endings, awaits your crew at the bottom of the trench. We want you all to discover it for yourselves, so we'll try not to spoil much here. But we will say that if you still wish to loop instead of ending your run upon reaching the bottom, that The Time Traveler will still await you so long as you don't.... well, we'll let you see for yourself. Without being able to show much about the final encounter, this may seem like a smaller update, but we spent the whole month just working on this and some preparatory work for Achievements. All so we can try wrapping up a very satisfying end-game, so we hope it was well worth it. With that said, the final encounter is definitely going to be in need of some fine-tuning and polish, so let us know what you think and keep sending feedback our way!

This week in celebration of Pride Month, we're dropping a tribute to the 19th Century gay author Oscar Wilde! This tribute comes in the form of a new foe and cosmetic inspired by his novella The Picture of Dorian Gray. The invincible Dorian Gray is a powerful foe indeed, for he can only be slain by finding and destroying his accursed portrait. Do so and you may be rewarded with a rare cosmetic!
Happy Pride!

And now for a little preview of one thing to come in our upcoming June 8th update:

Content Drop: New Critters + Sounds!

This week we're dropping new 3 new background critters to populate the final biome, and have implemented new sound effects to give proper life to its many horrific denizens! See the full list of the new sounds below!
Sounds Added:

 •
Whisperer Sounds
 •
Shoggoth Sounds
 •
Horror Sounds
 •
Mad One Sounds

Content Drop: Eldritch Elixir!

This week, we're dropping a liquid unlike any other in the form of the powerful and strange Eldritch Elixir! A rare find in The Living Infinite; should you choose to partake in such a drink, you will find yourself granted with a substantial boost in either your strength or repair abilities (+10), but at a great cost to your life. (-5 to max health) It's your price to pay, should you wish it.

[ 2019-05-13 23:52:16 CET ] [ Original post ]

Content Drop: Cultist Rank + Final Expedition

While there's not going to be a large-scale update this month as we continue to supply new content as soon as it's made, today's drop is more sizable than usual! First off, we're dropping a new max Rank Level, Cultist! See more than any Captain can with the truth bestowed by the cosmos themselves, complete with a new Cultist Attire (unlocked at the Cultist rank) should you wish to showcase your newfound faith.
Secondly, we're dropping a Final Expedition at the very end of the Final Biome - a lavish yet rusty undersea grave of sorts for those who came before, but a last chance to rest and stock up on supplies before reaching the bottom...
Finally, a minor change, but the Translation Book now has an overhauled look, and now appears in front of players' faces instead of behind it. You know, how books are usually read.
More to come soon! As always, let us know what you think, and mark your calendars for We Need To Go Deeper's 1.0 release on August 1st!

[ 2019-05-09 04:04:52 CET ] [ Original post ]

Content Drop: Time Plague!

This week we're dropping the last planned Affliction before 1.0, the loop-exclusive Time Plague! This horrendous and deadly illness can only be contracted through a
Time Fragment
, but will slowly and steadily take its toll on your body once contracted, causing you to take damage every minute you have it, and cough out contagious particles, making it our most deadly affliction to date. Loopers, beware.
In addition, we've tweaked a few other loop-related values.

 •
Time Devourer's health changed from 60 to 30.
 •
Time Splitter's health changed from 30 to 10.
 •
Time Fragments can now board your ship, and leave behind contagious particles upon death.
[ 2019-04-30 01:02:11 CET ] [ Original post ]

Content Drop: Ghasts!

This week, we're dropping another enemy into the final biome, little mischievous creatures known as Ghasts. These little things love messing with technology, so if you notice funny things happening to your power distribution, it may just be a Ghast! You'll need to look closely though, they're very sneaky and may be hard to spot from afar...
Also, a semi-important announcement, but as we're working on finishing the final biome throughout the month, we may not have a big-scale content update for the 8th of next month as a result. We're very much focused on delivering content as its made right now, so expect a more regular stream of smaller things like this for a while.

Spring Event is Live!

Dr. Moreau's seasonal experiments have once again resulted in the Spring Event, now live for the rest of April! No new hats for seasoned veterans thanks to our hands being full with other stuff, but there's always the thrill of the hunt.

 • 6 Special Cosmetics!
 • Mutant Egg Hunt!
 • Hopping Abominations!
Spring has sprung, and so has Dr. Moreau's mutant hybrids! Sprung into the ocean, that is! Now, Dr. Moreau's sick experiment is swimming about leaving Mutant Eggs, most of which bear its twisted spawn, but some eggs contain the Festive Heads of Dr. Moreau's previous experiments! Don't ask why.
Dr. Moreau's experiments will expire spontaneously May 2nd.

Content Drop: Madness Affliction!

This week, we're bringing your minds to the brink with the new Madness Affliction for the final biome! With madness, your reality becomes fractured, and you may witness things your fellow crew mates cannot. You can't trust your senses when inflicted with madness!
There's also one extra small change in this drop, you may or may not notice that the strange light that shines at the end of each biome now has taken on a new hue. Don't worry about it, it was always like that!

The Eldritch Update (0.9.5) | The Final Biome

My dear colleagues, what I have witnessed cannot be described in our finite language. What lurks beyond the deepest threshold are sights that should remain unseen. Writhing horrors, extra-dimensional geometry, and blasphemous designs no benevolent ruler would ever see fit for existence. Turn back while you can. Full Image Download Available Here

The Final Biome

The 10th and final biome has arrived, and we couldn't be more excited to start getting your feedback. Full disclosure, the biome is only partially finished, but we hope to add the rest of the intended content in by the end of the month. We don't want to spoil too much, as a big part of this biome is discovering things for yourself, but here's a few things you'll likely need to know:
 • There are no safe spots to park in this biome. That means no caves, no lairs, no civilizations, zip. This is intended to be a sort of final gauntlet/challenge for your crew, so be sure you have everything you need by the end of the 4th biome.
 • The biome has no boss yet, only a placeholder while we work on the more involved encounter which will serve as the game's final boss.
 • Communication is vital. We are designing this biome to really test communication among players, so be vocal and be vigilant. This will of course mean that we may have extra problems with Bot AI in this biome, so bear with us as we bring them up to date with new mechanics.
With that, good luck and have fun, and be sure to leave us plenty of feedback on the new content!

The End is Nigh

The end of our Early Access road is scheduled to come to an end this Summer, with our full release headed for June! On that note, I figured it might be a good time to recap a few things you can expect for full release and onward:
 • The base price WILL increase for full launch. As we've stated since the beginning, the base price of We Need To Go Deeper will indeed increase once we're fully launched. So now is the time if you still want to take advantage of the game at its current price.
 • The game will still be updated! We do indeed want to keep adding content to the game post-launch for as long as is viable, and we're very serious about clamping down on any bugs/issues that happen to persist past launch. You can definitely expect at minimum a few sizable content updates in the full release's future in addition to patches and support! So keep letting us know what you'd most like to see!
 • The full soundtrack will be available FREE! While we already offer the soundtrack via our SoundCloud, many of you have been asking for a full, easily downloadable version of the soundtrack, and you will get just that on launch day!

Fixes + Changes

 • Added fail-safe to avoid saving corrupted rank data.
 • Multiple injection behavior fixed (Narwhals, etc can now again inject their noses more than just once)
 • Reduced meat boulder damage 60%
 • Reduced meat boulder falling speed 25%
 • Increased spawn wait interval for nematodes from 2 seconds to 6 seconds
 • Reduced nematode sight radius 33%
 • Added a bunch of new dialog to every civilization!

::: Player of the Month ::: This month's Player of the Month has been with the WNTGD community for nearly two full years, and while they've been POTM once before in the past, we felt with their recent and frequent contributions, feedback, and extreme dedication to maintaining the We Need To Go Deeper Wiki and Forums, on top of their generally fun and playful attitude, that they truly earned the spot again. Congrats again ADcrafter, we're grateful to have you in the community! ::: Community Highlights ::: First off, a big shoutout to Wrzlprnft for his work on the new Discord bot, which now sorts active players when they are in-game, and allows you to flag yourself as looking for fellow crew members! It's super convenient and displays live players in the Discord right in the roles section, so you can jump right into a crew! Thank you Wrzlprnft! Be sure to join our Discord community if you haven't already! www.discord.gg/wntgd Now, we appear to have missed a few awesome art pieces last time we did one of these, so please enjoy the belated showcase of fan art! These hand-drawn pieces by The Frog Archer capture the hidden beauty of our limb-deficient cephalopods.

Meanwhile, these animations from Sakke take a trip into Eldritch horrors.

Content Drop: Velociraptor!

This week we're dropping a new Time Traveler enemy; the furious and feathery Velociraptor!
Besides their speed and viciousness, be warned that some velociraptors (around 10 percent to be exact) can also be vessels for prehistoric illnesses, such as the Ancient Flu, so try your best to make short work of these creatures should you be unfortunate enough to come across one.

Content Drop: Ancient Flu + Final Biome Preview

This week we're dropping a brand new affliction for the Ancient Abyss, known as Ancient Flu! Besides making your face break out in nasty green hives, Ancient Flu gives you an extreme case of the sniffles, causing your character to have to stop and sneeze bursts of deadly and contagious acidic phlegm from time to time. It's also a fairly frequent affair, so tread carefully around infected teammates!

SNEAKY PEAKY

We've been starting work towards fleshing out the final biome recently, and I thought I'd share some snippets of the concept drawings we've been working on for it! As always, I'll leave the details to your imaginations for now.

The Leftovers Update (0.9.1) | Fixes, Tweaks, Polish!

This month is all about forgotten leftovers, and boy do we have a bundle of them for ya in this month's content update! Asset replacements, camera tweaks, back-end number crunching. Many things we shoulda done but haven't yet!

Features

New Flee Critters!- 3 New fleeing critter types for the Dark Depths, Ancient Abyss and Volcanic Depths have appeared, known as the Macrourus, Glisten Fish, and Skin Fish respectively. What they lack in bite they make up for in cowardice, adding a little extra life to their respective biomes.
Explosion Countdown!- No longer will your submersibles instantly explode when their hull integrity reaches zero, but instead an alarm will sound when the hull is critical, alerting the crew of their imminent destruction, with a 5 second countdown to annihilation once the hull reaches zero. Should you manage to fully repair a leak within that time, however, you may very well avoid death's icy grasp!
2 New Secret Hats!- Two new secret Youtube-inspired hats have been added! This time around, based on two bickering friends who are intimately familiar with nearly all of We Need To Go Deeper's updates... Try their names in the Extras Menu to unlock their respective hats!
Big List of Fixes/Changes! - The bulk of this update went towards more catchup/cleanup of many different elements! Here's the list in its full glory:
 • Barnacle Hive legs added, can knock the submarine around if they get too close.
 • Barnacle Hive now shielded everywhere but it's spawner boils and spine.
 • Ragdoll negative scaling fixed, hopefully should stop weird disconnected ragdolls.
 • Contrast boosted in caves/expedition zones to make up for some of the lost contrast/color caused by underwater overlay.
 • Anti-aliasing added to interior camera to be consistent with exterior.
 • Caves given extra hand-composed decor clusters for variety.
 • Camera now centers properly during Dinner Sequence.
 • Dinner Sequence now repairs the ship, heals all players, and cleans up interior enemies for a fresh start.
 • Nematode given attack animation, no longer does touch damage.
 • Ephyra red damage projectile no longer shorts consoles.
 • Jelly Temple given a new more temple-y exterior asset.
 • Disabled Ultrawide monitor resolutions to avoid confusion until we can officially support it.
 • Added refresh rate to monitor resolution dropdown info.
 • Ephyra boss has a new rotate-y attack pattern and increased projectile size, but now only spawns projectiles from specific spots.
 • New "faux random" function to clamp down on the limits of bad luck for certain items. Now instead of pure RNG this faux random will only make so many bad rolls before it defaults to the desired outcome, after which it switches back to RNG. Items with faux random: Butcher Knife, Pickaxe, Eldritch Staff.
 • Player-based "knockback" feedback added for incoming damage. Now you'll really feel the oomph of a crab's claw swipes!

::: Player of the Month ::: This month's Player of the Month is Lock! Though he's a "lock" of many names, Lock is a frequent and friendly voice among our Discord and Livestreams, always stopping by to liven things up with his variety of topics and banter. We've also included 4 new juicy relics in this drop for the lore hunters out there, so happy hunting!

The Beastly Update (0.9) | New Bosses!

Get snarly for February's content update, and We Need To Go Deeper's two year anniversary month! This month, we have no less than 3 new beastly bosses, enemy improvements, fixes, and more!

Features

NEW Boss: The Leviathan! - The beast of legends, The Leviathan has revealed itself within the Cursed Waters, lurking in a boney graveyard. Not only is this a fearsome beast with its hull-shattering beak and claws, but she's clever too, known to dash away only to ambush its prey from new angles.
NEW Boss: The Sightless! - These slithering twin eels lurk in the shadowy Dark Depths, each blind in their own way. Luckily for them, a scent and sound is all they need to track down and surprise their prey by bursting out of the very soil they reside within.
NEW Boss: The Erupting Shell! - Smoldering no more, this gargantuan tortoise in the Volcanic Depths has developed none other than an entire erupting volcano on its rocky exterior! Boiling with rage inside and out, the Erupting Shell will protect its vent-heated domain at any cost.
Smarter Swimmers! - The AI of your average swimming foe has been improved! Swimming enemies can now better target their prey to aim their attacks where it really counts! Additionally, swimmers now know when they've been outmatched, and will temporarily flee the scene if things are looking bad for them. This will also allow for a new variety of swimmer types in future, as fleeing behavior can be tweaked on a per-enemy basis!

Fixes and Changes

 • Barnacle mines can no longer be spawned infinitely during sub-biomes.
 • Lair Guardian ragdoll can no longer be farmed indefinitely.
 • Butcher knife now only creates meat from dead bodies/ragdolls.
 • Several colliders fixed to prevent ground-based enemies from floating.
 • Enemy sound effects given random pitch variance.
 • Mud Giant's sucking ability tweaked to prevent cheesing.
 • Rare Mud Giant "disappearing" bug fixed with cave console timeout.
 • Fixed a bug causing slow enemy turning.
 • Improved charging behavior math.
 • fixed a visual glitch causing bubbles to appear in between layers of the Pale Whale.

Community

::: Player of the Month ::: February's Player of the Month is Fish Fish! Fish Fish has been a frequent friendly community member for nearly two years, and for those years, has been a great easy-going but persistent mod for the community Discord, friendly to talk to, and often hops into games with other community goers. Fish Fish is a great example of the kind of person you want in any healthy game community, and for that, they are February's Player of the Month! ------------------------------------------------------------------ With this update, we've now cleansed WNTGD of all placeholder bosses, so now is the time to ensure all bosses are up to snuff with a final product! Hit us up with all your cheesing strats, bugs, etc. as we ramp up for the full release out of early access this year! Happy two years everyone!

Content Drop: Fixer Upper #4

The last fix drop of the month, but certainly not the last round of fixes we'll need before release. This time up, we're tackling saves again! Namely addressing saving/loading between multiple steam accounts and cloud save issues. The specific fixes are below:

 • Added sub-folders to keep track of which steam account a save was made in to address multi-account save overwrite errors. This will not be able to "rescue" saves that were previously affected unfortunately, but is meant to prevent future occurrences.
 • Added backup saving system to create automatic backups of save files in your Steam ID subfolder when creating new saves.
ATTENTION: For ensuring your saves during this transition phase, please make a backup copy of your .data files located at C:\Users\(you)\AppData\LocalLow\Deli Interactive\We Need to Go Deeper and keep them handy for this initial process. Since we didn't track Steam IDs before this patch, the issue could still occur in saves created prior to the patch, so ensure your saves if you have a machine with multiple users. After the update, this should no longer occur, however.

Content Drop: Fixer Upper #3

The month of fixes continues yet with this week's content drop! See our new fixes below!

 • A new safeguard added to try and prevent some of the newly reported saving errors.
 • Double monitor mouselocking should now be working properly, meaning you won't accidentally click out of game.
 • Custom data packet added to assist mod support.

Content Drop: Fixer Upper #2 + Update Preview

The month of fixes continues with yet another fix-em-up content drop! This time around, we've tackled a few notable Lair Guardian bugs!

 • Fixed bots getting permanently disarmed after getting grabbed by Lair Guardian.
 • Fixed Lair Guardian sometimes still being able to grab players even after its grabbing arm has been destroyed.

SNEAKY PEAKY

The Golden Gift grants you the very essence of life, giving you +2 max health upon contracting it! But be warned, for this essence comes at the cost of every other player stat. Your arms get weaker, your legs get slower, and your lungs shrivel under the power of the Golden Gift. (-2 per stat)
Have a Happy New Year, everybody!

The Bond Update (0.8.7) | New Boss, Items, Enemies + More!

NOTE: The update is temporarily unavailable while we attend to a surprise game-breaking bug. The update will be available as soon as possible! Share a loving bond for December's official content update! This month is all about bonding, so that means a new boss, items, and enemies! It fits the theme I swear, bear with me here.

Features

NEW Boss - The Pale Whale! - There's no greater bond than the bond of obsession, and what greater obsession is there than the legendary [strike]White[/strike] Pale Whale himself!
Still bearing the harpoons from his previous stalkers, this mighty Frozen Waters boss lies waiting in a tomb of icebergs for his next victim. Don't let his size fool you, he's as fast and aggressive as they come, and armed with a blowhole known to project ensaring bubbles and the occasional clingy starfish!
NEW Item - The Wedding Ring! - There is no bond more meaningful, however, than the bond of marriage. And with the new Wedding Ring item, you can finally marry* other players! Simply propose to a fellow crewmate by lightly tapping them with the ring, and if they accept, your very life essence will be BONDED, till death do you part!
*3 of the 4 developers are Legally Ordained Ministers. Does this make all in-game marriages legally binding? We'll let you be the judge.
NEW Item - The Tesla Crank! - The item every dedicated engineer has been waiting for has arrived! There's no bond like an electric bond, and that's just what you create with the Tesla Crank!
Simply walk up to a console and hold the action button to build up a charge. The longer you crank, the bigger the charge buildup, and the more you can boost the energy of any given console! These boosts don't last long, however, so crank wisely!
NEW Enemy - The Mechanical Hunters! - A new enemy has arrived in the Mechanical Abyss in the form of the Mechanical Hunters! These horrid creatures were made to sail around in their strange vessel searching for biological life to BOND their vessel with. There are four hunters per vessel, so keep a close eye out for these things, unless meeting these cyclopian intruders is on your bucket list.
NEW Lobby & In-Game Host Options! - New frequently requested host options have been introduced to lobbies and the in-game tab menu! You can now, at any time:
 • LOCK and UNLOCK a game listing, even in the middle of a session! For when all your friends have already joined, but you could stand to meet new people.
 • KICK players in a lobby or in-game. This one wasn't added lightly, but you guys were pretty loud about your desire for its inclusion. We better not hear about you guys kicking new players just for being new! *Shakes Fist*

Nematode Spawners! - These newfound fleshy eggsacs ensure the Sleepy Giant's stomach is always chock full of fresh Nematodes, making this boss fight that much harder.

Other Changes

 • Lobby UI reworked to accomodate new features. THIN sleek player listings just like momma used to make.
 • Online lobby listings now also display the submarine being used and whether or not a game is a Custom Game.
 • Fixed angler fish not showing up on radar.

Open wide for November's official content update! Big-mouthed giants, in-game gamepad support and other boss improvements await! Dive in if you dare!

Features

NEW Boss: The Sleepy Giant - Something large, green, and sleepy awaits now at the bottom of The Prehistoric Depths. Something that is known to swallow whole ships in a single gulp!

Partial Controller Support! - While we are still working on getting menus working with controllers, all in-game activities can now be enjoyed from the comfort of your couch! Just hop in a game, plug in a Gamepad, and play away! NOTE: You may need to reset your bindings to default for the new controller bindings to take effect. Here are the Default bindings, which can be changed anytime from the main menu:

NEW Boss Arenas + Hazards! - Boss fights are getting a little more developed with new arenas and hazards customized for each boss encounter. Whether you are entering the Quadken's egg nest or the high-security protection of the Ambassador, you are sure to find (nonplaceholder) boss fights a little more challenging!

Megalodon Migration - The Megalodon has since been pushed out of its home by the Sleepy Giant, leaving it no choice but to look for new hunting grounds among the Prehistoric Depths... Let's just hope you don't disturb it on its travels.

Changes and Fixes

 • The Poubelle now starts with 40 health rather than 30.
 • The Espadon now starts with 30 health rather than 40. See the switcheroo there?
 • The EMP can now only be upgraded once, and the Perle starts with its EMP upgrade already applied.
 • The medkit now has a 10% chance on hit to cure afflictions in the recipient.
 • Fixed time traveler portal not appearing in Mechanical Waters.
 • Odobenians no longer swap gender when attacking
 • Fixed an exploit which enabled over-healing when curing the curse affliction.
 • Fixed a bug which caused the backpack pickup to still be visible for 3 seconds on anyone's screen who *didn't* pick it up
 • Improved game-to-game particle cleanup, which should reduce memory footprint when the application has been run a long time.
 • Fixed the purple potion also doing healing.
 • Fixed a problem in exterior enemy memory cleanup which was prone to occur near boss fights
 • Removed Halloween event-specific spawns.

Fall Event is Live + New Content Drop!

The Heads of the Horseman Fall Event is back, along with some spooky new content! Fend off horrific produce and legendary ghosts, and earn new special cosmetics for the month of October!

 • 8 Special Cosmetics!
 • Horrific Pumpkin foes!
 • Face The Horseman himself!
As the leaves descend from the trees, so too does the vengeful Headless Horseman rise from his resting place, donning atop his head twisted mutations of the season's harvest! Legends say The Horseman's accursed Produce began spreading their own evil seed among the populace, spawning devilish plantlife throughout the world - including the very depths themselves! The Living Infinite is the latest to be infested with this bountiful harvest of hallowed fruit - and The Horseman will hunt down anyone who dares get in his way of reclaiming these lost heads!
The Horseman will return to his grave on November 8th.
Along with the fall event, we have also added some spooky new content in the form of Visual Afflictions and a brand NEW Affliction to go with it! Now, when you become afflicted with one of the Living Infinite's many horrid diseases, your face will reflect your newfound blight for all to see! Now your crewmates will know to avoid you should they not wish to catch your bug!
...and last but not least, a brand NEW Affliction has been introduced, a horrible life-sapping blight known as Blood Sickness! Courtesy of our own community's brainstorming among the forums!
Blood Sickness will take its toll on your max health, sapping away 25% of its total until it can be cured. It's a disease contracted by venomous sources such as the bite of a lamprey, the sting of a bee, or poison syringes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Finally, we've also taken the opportunity to add a few workarounds and fixes to some small things:
 • Mechanical relics have been added to mechanical waters, and now properly display in the relic museum once unlocked.
 • Added ESC button workaround to main menu, allowing users to bring up the Options panel by pushing ESC should they be stuck in an unusable resolution.
And that's all she wrote! Let us know as always what you think of the new content, and happy harvesting!

The Oily Update 1/2: (0.8.3) | AI, Damage Overhaul, Optimizations More!

Grease your motor for this month's two-part content update! For Part 1, we have a wide variety of game-wide improvements and changes, along with a taste of this month's new biome coming in full for Part 2! Here's the full details:

Features

Improved AI! - Friendly NPCs and Civilizations alike are all getting an intelligence boost! Here are some of their newfound capabilities:
 • Door-busters: All Civilizations now have the ability to break down your vessel's doors during their attack when you try to steal from them. Thieves beware!
 • NPCs don't swing in Civilization hubs unless you're being attacked or if you've upset the Civilization.
 • NPCs are more responsive to commands.
 • NPCs can attack enemies while reviving.

Damage Overhaul! - Introducing variable sized breaks and a new shielding system for our big Damage Overhaul!
 • Variable Sized Leaks: Leaks now scale with damage dealt, meaning big biters can chomp big, fast-flooding holes into your ship, and a little bump may only cause smaller breaches.
 • Shield Damage Absorbtion: Shields now absorb variable damage rather than an all-or-nothing solution, meaning you can tank damage more effectivly, with only the difference in damage affecting your ship when it does cut through!

New Relics! - Three new mysterious but telling relics have appeared in the Prehistoric Waters - they seem to be from a different timeline, however, from a yet unseen biome...
New Enemy: Trash Compactor! - Another taste of the new upcoming biome. Brought by The Time Traveler, this strange machine cares little about your presence, but get in its way and you'll be sorry.
Optimizations and Improvements! - Last but not least, this update is packed to the brim with a host of new fixes, optimizations, and improvements in just about every area! Every machine needs to be well-oiled, after all!
 • Greatly optimized bandwidth usage across the board.
 • Flooding/Water system optimized to be less processor-intensive.
 • Lairs now receive item drops.
 • Fixed hosting and lobby issues for Mac OSX users.
 • Caught and fixed many, many, game-slowing null reference bugs.
 • Ceiling walkers' orientation is now networked.
 • Revolver fixed to deal the correct amount of damage when shooting rapidly.
 • Bots no longer shoot at barnacle mines or puffers.
 • Fixed the lock cursor toggle when pressing caps lock.
 • Aggroed Tiki Civ stops spawning boulders when dead.

::: Player of the Month ::: The Player of the Month for September is..... GiantButtFace! GiantButtFace, despite their name, has been a giant HELPFUL face in helping us find some important Mac OSX Networking bugs that we were able to solve in this very update! Through some good old fashioned back and forth emailing, questioning, and prompt info gathering. Thanks GiantButtFace! ::: Community Highlights ::: Person Personmans just sent us our first fan-made music piece this month, and we had to listen to it right away, and share it with y'all as well! Evoking the feeling when you are filled to the brim with leaks, this is "Breach" - https://onlinesequencer.net/918623 ::: Specific balance changes and fixes ::: Balance: -Bots will continue to swing at enemies even when reviving a dead player -Bots spend more time repairing if it is a directly commanded task -Water flooding rate is now proportional to the size of the hull breach -All enemies increase their health and damage upon looping the game. -Batteries now provide 5 minutes of charge rather than their previous 3. -The Tiki civilization no longer spawns boulders after all the Tikis are dead. -Submarine shields now charge linearly rather than step-wise, and change color/scale to signify charge. -Reduced wall flower projectile hull damage ~25% -Increased lion-mane jellyfish hull damage ~250% -Reduced hull damage from individual maggots 60% -Decreased hull damage from lamprey invaders 60% -Decreased hull damage from Aurelian worm 40% -Increased angler fish hull damage 20% -Reduced angler fish and sick angler fish biting rate -Increased angler fish swim speed 5% -Time devourer children do less damage based on their size -Per-breach damage from ghost pirate invaders reduced 40% -Per-breach damage from barnacle grabbers decreased 20% -Increased hull damage from Dunkleosteus bites 300% -Reduced Dunkleosteus health 25% and reduced bite rate 50% -Reduced damage from cursed oyster clusters 20-66% depending on size -Increased volcanic turtle and shark damage 25% -Reduced volcanic vent eruption rate 50% -Zoomed in lair guardian fight camera slightly. -Doubled the XP value of killing exterior enemies. -Hull damage due to crashinig the submarine increased Fixes: -All enemies, pickups, cave decorations, projectiles, ragdolls, hazards, and treasure now use a distance-based method to dynamically spawn and unspawn over the network only when in near-sight radius. This drastically reduces the amount of information sent to mid-game joining players and reduced moment-to-moment traffic on the client side 50-75%. -Bots have improved response to commands when in an expedition segment -Baby crabs are back! Where did they even go? -Interior enemies now correctly respond to multiple sources of damage simultaneously or in short succession by using per-damage-source invincibility times, rather than per-damage invincibility times. This means that a full crew can attack cave/civ enemies and have each hit registered successfully. Very handy! -Exterior enemies send 50% less traffic when mildly distant from the sub, and send no traffic to clients at all when far out of range (as part of the distance-based networking overhaul) -Fixed bot loadout items sometimes appearing incorrectly for players joining mid-game -Exterior hazards are now generated only once per level chunk, fixing the problems where waiting a while could cause the next level chunk to be packed full of barnacle mines or volcanic vents. Also fixes hazards popping into view. -Quadrupled the size of the acknowledgement packet buffer (reduces packet loss) -Increased the max sent message queue size from 128 to 150, allowing slightly more messages to be buffered and thus reducing packet loss due to network backup. -Increased the max reliable message fragment size and max small reliable message count per-packet to help condense traffic and reduce bandwidth usage due to repeated packet headers. -Decreased the ping timeout for disconnection from 8 seconds to 5 seconds, thus reducing ~35% of the packet backup caused by trying to resend reliable messages to an unresponsive client -Fixed a bug in the broken container behavior causing networking backup. -Wrote a failsafe to help prevent players from getting duplicate XP from a run quickly leaving and re-joining a game. -Fixed a problem where the revolver could not deal damage for each shot if used at its max shooting speed - now each shot registers and deals damage -Bots operating weapons will actively try to avoid barnacle mines and gaseous fish -Nearly all objects related to the water flooding system no longer perform per-frame physics overlap casting, and instead do a single raycast at their start or highly stagged physics overlap casting. This dramatically improves flood performance. -Fixed a bug in the cursor locking logic when pressing caps lock -Built a series of workarounds for hosting online games on OSX when Unity fails to get any information about network adapters on the local machine -Fixed the stage II barnacle crab not being properly hooked up to the network manager, causing networking backups -Interior enemies now correctly sync their scale, miniboss status, and ceiling walker status for mid-game joining players -Fixed pirate ship debris particles not properly being destroyed, causing slowdowns over time -Fixed Discord Rich Presence showing incorrect biome names for players in-game -Fixed an issue in the position syncing configuration of barnacle mines and gaseous fish, causing position information to come in out of order. -Fixed a few typos in Atlantean, Egyptian, and Lamprey dialogue. -Added a sound effect for grounded dodge rolls. -Fixed a null reference in the appearance setting code for bots and civilization recruits. -Fixed an animator rigging problem in the time devourer/children -Ghost clams and eldritch spawnlings are now properly cleaned up after exiting a cave -Fixed the lair guardian sounds ignoring SFX volume settings -Fixed a bug where weapons power always displayed as zero in the tactical view ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let us know what you think of Part 1, and we'll see you soon when Part 2 comes around! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Patch 1 notes: -Fixed a null reference causing caves to be non-exitable if preceded by certain cave types. -Fixed a networking error in broken doors. -Fixed ranged weapons being able to damage submarine doors

Community Challenge: Starting with the rose!

It's time for our community challenge! This one is for all of you skilled players out there. If at least ONE team can get through all four layers with each player only starting with the rose, the rose will do as much damage as the Tesla gun for one week! Each team that can do this successfully, will additionally be awarded official bragging rights. Contest Rules: 1. You may not use any bots however, civilization recruits are fair game. 2. Record the entire run, so that we may verify that the goal was achieved. 3. You may swap items in caves or shops. 4. As always, we expect everyone to be respectful and kind to one another, so no offensive player names, name calling, or mistreatment of others. You may email your entry to interactivedeli@gmail.com, send us a link through Messenger or Steam. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to The Dev Wife, who is available via Steam or Discord. Happy diving!

Content Drop: Beautyful Art!

This week you'll notice that we have a brand new cover art for We Need To Go Deeper, courtesy of the ever-talented Niko Geyer! It's a piece Niko has been brewing with us over the past while, meant to encompass what it feels like to play a typical round of Deeper in all its frantic, chaotic glory. We were blown away by the finished piece..
With that, we're throwing a download link in here so y'all can use it for wallpapers, phone backgrounds, murals, whatever it is you like to do with big digital paintings! Let us know what you think of the new art, and be sure to check out Niko Geyer's other amazing works! Also, as a side note - our artist Nick (also the guy writing this), is currently suffering from a bad case of carpal tunnel syndrome and may be out of commission for a bit while he heals, which is why today's content drop is not an in-game one this time, and if it persists, may change what we can accomplish for next month's update. We'll have to see!

Weekly Community Challenge

Time for our weekly challenge! Calling fat cats, grumpy cats, small cats, happy cats, we're calling all cats! If you don't own a cat, snap a picture with a friends cat, or a friendly neighborhood cat, or one of your aunt's 17 cats! You know, that one aunt who always smells a little funny? Deadline is next Friday, the 24th!

Content Drop: Dental Pliers Update Preview!

This week we're bringing you a new tool to add to your arsenal - The Dental Pliers! This handy fella can be used to repair both your fellow crewmates and your vessel in the right hands, but beware - dental work can be painful! It's not advised to use in a fight however, as its quite unwieldy for combat. The Pliers will appear in the Catalog once you've hit the 4th Buccaneer subrank.
Plier Stats: Repair: 7 Healing:1 with a 10% chance to deal friendly damage. Damage: 7

Other Changes:

- Shotgun's pushback tweaked to be less extreme. - Enemies all have variable pushback resistence, most notably The Time Devourer now has significant resistence. - Fixed the error causing an early exit in NPC skins - Fixed a null reference in PointArm that was occurring in response to syncing the arm angle on clients - Fixed several other new null references causing Network buildup. - Syringe now has a 10% chance to deal friendly damage.

SNEAKY PEAKY:

We have another preview for next month's update for y'all as well this week! This one is a little more fleshed out than what you might be used to given how long we've had this update's feature on the backburner:
As usual, we'll allow you to interpret this how you please in the meantime. ;) Let us know what y'all think as always! Happy dentistry! Extra Patch Notes 8/14/18: - Added bandaid to combat biome skipping bug until we can figure out the root problem. - Better logging to help us find the root problem - Tab menu is now viewable on the loadout menu so players can see what their teammates are carrying. - Item swap tip ripped out to be placed in a better spot in future.

The Filthy Update (0.8.2) | Trash Hermits, New Upgrades More!

It's time to feel dirty for August's official content update! This month we're bringing a filthy new cave type, new upgrades, full course dinners, and more!

Features

New Expedition Type: Hermit Hovels! - These filth-coated gargantuan Sea Shells have started appearing all across The Living Infinite's depths, housing within them large but friendly creatures known as...
Trash Hermits! - These oversized decapods have but one passion in life, and that's collecting trash. They love trash so much in fact, that they opt to live in it! Approaching these docile behemoths, you may be able to convince them to part with some of their excess filth, and discover that sometimes, one crab's trash is another man's treasure (or upgrade)!

Trash Items! - Not all trash is created equal, and while sometimes you'll score upgrades or valuable goods from your local Trash Hermit, other times you'll be... less lucky. These new items are all of minimum use to your team but hey! Who knows, maybe you'll find a use for that... banana peel?
New Upgrades: Hazardous Fuel and The Duplicator! - Two new upgrades have been added to bolster your offensive capabilities in the form of Hazardous Fuel and The Duplicator Ammo Mod! Hazardous Fuel turns your fuel into a deadly corrossive substance that will trail behind your ship whenever you utilize fuel! The Duplicator Ammo Mod is an advanced piece of tech that will, like its namesake, duplicate your torpedoes upon firing them, doubling your firepower! Warning: Duplication process may cause torpedoes to spread in different directions.
Backpacks! - When starting out in WNTGD, many of you have wondered why you can only pick one item to start with, when in-game you can carry two. This has been an unintuitive and unexplained mechanic from the beginning, but a decision we made to make mid-game choices and player progression more unpredictable and interesting, but the game hasn't done a great job justifying an explanation for this until now. We're finally addressing it along with a balance shift for the early game, with The Backpack! The Backpack is a new player upgrade that, when equipped, allows your character to carry one extra item! This means that at the start, you can only carry the one you brought until you find a backpack! We hope this will make the early-game more challenging and team-focused, while allowing for a better feeling of player progression once the team begins finding and equipping backpacks, opening up their strategic possibilities in the process. We know this one might feel strange at first, but if you still aren't convinced after playing around with it, we are including a new Custom Game Option that equips you with them from the start. Though we hope y'all trust where we're going with this, especially when it comes to people playing the game for the first time!
Dinner Time! - After a hard day of adventuring, your crew will now get the opportunity to end their nights sitting down together to enjoy a nice candle-lit dinner. At the end of of every biome, once traveling downwards your team will find themselves taking a moment to breathe and rest with these new Dinner Sequences that take place in the time between biomes. We hope these brief sequences will give you an opportunity to better bond with your crew as you heal and drink elixirs together, and impress upon you the days-long journey your characters take as they voyage deeper into the trench.

Balance

- Torpedo explosions deal 5 damage and a direct hit deals 5 more damage. This should be much more fair and realistic torpedo behavior. The torpedo explosion can only damage any given damageable once, but both the direct hit and the explosion override canHIt so that two torpedoes can do their full amount of damage without needing to worry about the enemy being invulnerable for a period. - New custom behavior biases Upgrade Crate's drops based on water layer, and currently equipped upgrades. (It's now far less likely to get another weapon swap upgrade after you've equipped one) - New Pickup behavior ensures Civs no longer have duplicate items on sale. - Upgrades all have a "maximum" limit, and will inform the player upon picking up if they have reached their capacity (mainly to prevent players from wondering if certain ammo mods stack when picking them up). - Reduced gold multiplier increase per water layer to 0.25, with a max gold multiplier of 2. (layer 1 = 1x, layer 2 = 1.25x, so forth). - We now sync the host stopwatch roughly every second.

Fixes

- Battery duping exploit has been fixed. - Fixed mid-game joiners being unable to see carried batteries. - Civ NPCs are now counted as crew members - Removed old useless code which was scaling the EMP damage on bosses based on crew member count. It now just deals 50% of its normal damage against bosses, per hit (which was the original intent) - Fixed mid-game joiners sometimes not seeing the right skins on NPC Recruits/Bots. - Fixed steam lobby exploit to ensure that a player cannot join a game which has ended over and over for XP. - Introduced new measures to combat cheaters. - Fixed Safari Suit not unlocking properly once bought. - Fixed a regression in Astar pathfinding in the exterior caused by flipping chunks. - Fixed null references in chemistry clouds and nearly all item-based RPCs that were causing network backup. - Fish meat should stop turning gray when dropped. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Content Drop: Gaseous Fish Update Preview!

Hey y'all! This week we're dropping a new puffed up enemy for the Prehistoric Waters biome - The Gas Fish! This fella doesn't actually mean you any harm, as they feed by relaxing and breathing plankton in through their pore-filled bodies, but should you knock into them or fire at them, they'll explode! Sometimes releasing toxins with them!

SNEAKY PEAKY

Meanwhile, we have one last little preview for the next big update coming up this week for you to MUNCH on:

Content Drop: Speed-Run Timer!

This week's content drop may be running a little late, but now you won't be - with the new Speed-Run Timer! As requested by the communities' most speed-hungry crews, you can now toggle an official Speed-Run Timer to track (and prove) your crews' best times to the bottom! The timer starts as soon as you START YER ENGINES, and ends as soon as the last biome's boss has been slain!
The Speed-Run Timer can be toggled at any time by the game's HOST, (and is viewable on the host's screen only for definitive accuracy) via the in-game menu. (ESC by default)

Happy speeding!

Content Drop: Splitters Update Preview!

Hey everyone! This week we're dropping a much-needed counter balance to our recent update's alteration of the infamous Time Devourer - namely, we made it mortal! Don't get too comfortable though, because now The Time Devourer has a new trick up its sleeve with Splitters!
These nasty new foes are the smaller split remnants of their recently killed predecessor, but with all the same teeth-grinding capabilities! They can be whittled down to nothing with enough firepower, but the more you kill, the more smaller targets you'll have to track! Happy looping!

I know we didn't share much about the update last month as it was mostly fixes and very non-visual stuff, but this next month's update we do indeed have some preliminary sketches to tease! Behold:

The Sturdy Update (0.8.1) | Player Ranks and Big Fixes!

Anchors away for July's official content update! This month is all about hardiness, sturdiness, and long-term stability. A new ranking system, menu, and a long list of 50+ overdue fixes awaits below! Drop your anchor and check it out!

Features

New Player Rank System! - Introducing Player Ranks to We Need To Go Deeper! As part of our efforts towards making meta-progression feel more satisfying, you now earn XP on your future runs that build towards earning new Ranks for your character! Ranks show off your Deeper prowess and are shown next to your character's name in online games. As of now, there are a total of 11 Ranks to earn, with 5 sub-ranks to earn in between each, totaling at 55 potential rankings!
Ranks don't simply come with a new fancy badge, however, as we've revamped the method for unlocking items and cosmetics to now be tied to our new XP system as well, so you'll be regularly unlocking cool stuff each time you level! Note: If you've already unlocked everything you still get to keep the things you've unlocked.
Also, DON'T PANIC. We know what you're thinking when you look at this new Gift Box on our XP screen, and to clarify - these are NOT the loot boxes your grandpa warned you about. While the rest of the game industry may have ruined the joy of opening a digital gift, we opted for this context because it's fundamentally FUN to unlock things in gift box form, but we promise this will never be tied with any kind of micro-transaction, purchasable currency, nada. The in-game XP or Gold will not be monetized in any way, shape or form, rest assured. Everything is to be earned in-game, exclusively.
New Main Menu! - The main menu has finally recieved a much-needed facelift after getting increasingly cluttered for so long, and in doing so we got to include a lot of cool new stuff to help the community grow! Latest News is now more prominently featured with a new rotating set of links that will direct folks to info about new Updates, Events, Merch, or Community hubs! There is also a new space for other useful links in the bottom right, and an ever-enticing reminder of your current XP progress and ranking in the upper right. Your character also gets a moment to shine the moment you open the game now, just to remind you of your handsome self.
Sturdy Fixes Galore! - You asked, and you asked, and sometimes things slide by. This month, we decided enough is enough, and went hard at work fixing as many long-standing issues as we could. It may not be as sexy as more content, but sometimes what's underneath is just as important. THE BIG FIX & CHANGE LIST: - Internal Restarting is FIXED! No more program restarts between playthroughs! -Fixed "the infinite void" bug. You can no longer find yourself in a black abyss of truly desolate nothingness - even if you want to. -Fixed costumes getting shifted around every time we add a new cosmetic. Ryan is a hero. -Fixed players getting their heads stuck on low spaces even when crouching -Players now only lose one max health on death rather than two! -Civilization shops now offer handheld weapons in addition to their usual repertoire! -You can no longer pick up a non-stackable upgrade. You can buy it, sure, but uh, I mean you do you buddy. -You can no longer revive someone after walking away from their dead body. Goodbye, beloved hack. -The sniper mod finally deals the monstrous damage it's supposed to! Check that baby out! -Fixed shotgun and sniper mod text not appearing after picking up the upgrades -Fixed shop cases still showing their item for sale even after being bought or broken -The time devourer can no longer show up to ruin your day before the game loops. -Oh, and the time devourer is no longer armored. -Oh, and the time devourer is very much so mortal now. Kill him. See what happens. See if another just shows up immediately. Be my guest. -Fixed relics turning gray like ragdolls. -Fixed players being able to see beyond the loaded level space in the tactical view. -Fixed the bug where the lair guardian could permanently disarm players -On that note, disarming has been completely rewritten to make permanent disarms virtually impossible. -In the same manner, locking your player in place was rewritten too. You should find yourself to be less...sticky? -You can no longer pick up two items simultaneously. -Fixed multiple sources of gold and items failing to properly save, and even being outright rewritten with nothing. -Fixed missing networking on ice chunks, abomination spawners, and barnacle mines which were potentially causing packet buildup -Networking channel settings have been changed to allow fragmented data in the channel responsible for spawning objects. This is useful for players joining mid-game who need a whole lotta data at once. -Manowar enemy now properly appears in front of a player's face when attached their head. -Fixed oddly laid out catalog menu items by runtime rescaling -Fixed a bug where a player grabbed out of the submarine by a lair guardian would trigger the submarine hatch sound and do a fade to black over and over and OVER. -Remember those weird artifacts on the health UI? How about other UI? Nick is your man and he has delivered the fix. -Bots now only flash yellow when they've actually healed. It's a miracle, people. -Fixed ceiling-walking enemies not falling when they're supposed to -Fixed ceiling walker y-scaling problems -All enemies attached to your head now scale correctly. *Phew*. Didn't want my head having any weird upside-down stuff on it. -Removed all item and cosmetic unlocks caused by raw depth, item use, or weird weird poorly explained external stuff. Gotta use that XP baby! -Fixed players being able to move, swing their arms, and shoot while in the loadout menu -Players no longer fire off a packet every frame when holding the interact button next to a door. Hallelujah. -Fixed a bug where players who had super fast hard disks would find themselves stuck in the ceiling of the Espadon. Classy. -Fixed a bug where players would be unable to use the periscope after being brigged while on a console or in bed. -Exterior level chunks now have double the variety at no extra cost! How? Embarrassingly simple math magic. -As mentioned in the last content drop, all bosses now have 50% less health, and their health no longer scales with the number of crew members. -Periscope view size reduced 10% -Fixed the Espadon background to no longer have a teeeeeeny sliver of exterior world that you could see. -The darkness (or lighting surface) and exterior parallax water are now big enough to accommodate the largest boss camera size without showing beyond them -Removed a needless additional check for internet connection and confirmed that you have internet if you are able to get your public IP. This fixes the problem where players can get this "not able to connect to steampowered.com" error even after disabling UPNP usage. -Fixed a memory cleanup bug when removing bots before starting a game -Fixed mummy ragdoll not showing up after being killed on client machines -Players can no longer revive multiple skeletons at once -Fixed several visual glitches in civilizations which allowed players to see beyond boundaries or see blank background -Grabbing multiple upgrades no longer shows the wrong text -Increased the shot distance on the sniper modded exterior gun -Fixed players still getting hit by higher-aimed projectiles even when they're ducking -RESOLUTION OPTIONS EVERYBODY HALLELUJAH! -Fixed several cases where players get stuck on sharp corners in caves. -Particle system setup has been made much more efficient. -Fixed a typo in the Bobby Suit description. -Players using Discord or Steam to join a game with a different version will no longer succeed. This fixes incompatible versions with totally different networking from trying to mash together like malformed puzzle pieces until they both break. -Fixed a particle factory error in the main power console switch -No longer will you be shackled to the play menu if you have a public IPv4 but are still trying to get a public IPv6! This fixes a case of permanent "Waiting for public IP source"! -Fixed a serious bug where players were never leaving their Steam lobbies in the first place. This was causing lobbies to appear full and de-list from the lobby browser even when space was available. -Fixed a bug where players disagreed on which submarine they had actually traveled in when it came time to upload their scores to the leaderboard. Oh boy. How embarrassing. -The cheat checker should no longer flag odd rapid changes in values that it tracks. Instead, it will now look for absurd values, which is a safer marker for cheating. -Fixed being able to enter/leave the submarine while chatting after reaching a cave -Fuel barrels now refill 50% of the sub's fuel meter! -The X on the relics UI should be working again. How it fell into disrepair is a matter of scholarly debate to this day. -Players should now have afflictions removed in the bed when at full health. We had forgotten to account for the effect of health potions when doing the math on that. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Community

::: Player of the Month ::: The Player of the Month for July is..... Thor Odenson! Not only has Thor Odenson been an active player since release, he's also been a moderator on our Discord for quite some time! Thor Odenson is quick to help others on our channel, as well as join them in online games. If you've ever taken a dive with him, you'd know that he is a skilled player and has a lot of useful insight and tactics to share. Thank you, Thor Odenson! I don't know how we'd do it without you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As always, let us know what y'all think of the new update! Happy ranking! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Patch 1 fixes: -Fixed the loading/saving problems brought on by trying to fit rank data into an old holder class. This should fix another large swath of cases where gold and depth are completely lost! Unfortunately, any save files which were damaged before this fix will not be repaired by it. This only prevents future damage from occurring to gold, depth, and rank save data. -Fixed rank-based catalog items not showing up properly. -Players can no longer go over the rank of captain. -The internal restart system is drastically more tolerant to errors, including any possible from saving/loading really old versions of game files. -Shop cases can no longer be infinitely mined for gold. -Fixed a bug that caused the screen to go dark forever if a lair guardian destroyed the submarine. -Switched to a much safer style of serializing game save data which does not cause the file to remain open even if an error is thrown. -Each new game resets the seed for the random number generator to fix cases where the same first biome was seen generating over and over until application quit. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Patch 2 fixes: -Your resolution now defaults to the max one available on your monitor. -Fixed the game resolution getting reset when entering the play menu. -Fixed a problem where a bug in the first time loading resolution settings could cause them to never save. -Removed event-specific items from the catalog. -Removed eldritch staff from the catalog. -Fixed incorrect rank requirements on the water pump. -Added a hotkey (default caps-lock) to turn off hard mouse cursor boundaries. -Mouse cursor boundaries are only enforced in windowed mode. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Patch 3 fixes: -Found and fixed a missing networked object which wasn't spawning on the server end and causing networking backup (this time it was the skeleton for recruited civilization crew members). -Fixed an error preventing deletion of particle emitters when the scene changed. -Fixed a null reference exception when using the water pump over the network. -Fixed the bug where the tactical view could be turned on and off when chatting while using the periscope. -Fixed a casting error when trying to access old player stats files. -Fixed a regression allowing a fifth invisible player into a lobby. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Patch 4 fixes: -Fixed the sunhat appearing in the catalog even after purchase -Made even more failsafes for getting the submarine positioned correctly after a biome change (see fix for "endless void" bug) -Fixed a missing networked object - today it was the ghost explosion for ghost hammerheads! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Patch 5 fixes: -Fixed still getting gold and XP even in a custom game -Fixed a logic error in XP progress calculations. After you finish a game for your first time in patch 5, the level up bar animation may be slightly incorrect, but this is likely getting extra experience added back to you caused by times you previously saw yourself level up but went back to the menu and found yourself at the same rank. Each game after the first should have the level up bar at the end of the game correctly reflecting the XP added. -Fixed an exploit where players could join and leave a game over and over and get expeirence each time they leave. XP is now only given and saved at the end of a run. If you disconect during a run, your gold and depth are still saved so long as it is not a custom game. Reconnecting before the game ends will ensure you still get the full amount of XP for the entire run. It is simply awarded only once.

Version 0.8.1 BETA is Live! (UPDATED)

Hey everyone! The BETA for our latest content update is now live for you to test! We say Beta because one of the biggest fixes this update brings is a real doozy, and we won't feel comfortable pushing the update out until we know it's stable. SO - if you would like to help test the new update, simply right click WNTGD in your Steam Library and go to Properties > Betas and select the "beta" branch from the dropdown list and wait for the content to download. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING TO TEST (UPDATED): - Our new "internal restart" system, AKA our solution for not having to force the program to quit and reboot at the end of each session to function properly. How do we test this? Simple, play many games in a row without restarting the game, and report anything strange that happens from the second game onwards. vvv UPDATED! vvv - LAN should be fixed, so if it's broken, or some combination of it and Online games are broken, let us know! - Ranks and XP should be pretty much working now. There's one known bug where new ranks don't display properly on clients that we're looking into, but start earning XP and see what happens! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thanks everyone! With your help, hopefully we'll be able to test/fix the update and release it in full in no time!

Content Drop: Baby Duopus!

This week we're dropping a new enemy in the form of the adorable and deadly Baby Duopus! This little squirt is too big to grab hold of your vessel, so instead he'll burst right in and chomp on ya face to face! These little guys are also now what gets spawned by their mother Quadken, who can also spawn more of them for a bigger challenge! Found in the Atlantic Waters biome.
We've also got a short list of balance changes and priority fixes with this content drop: - Quadken now spawns Baby Duopi instead of adult Duopi and can spawn up to 3 at a time. - All Bosses now have 50% less health, with their player scaling math removed to be far more fair and less bullet-spongey in nature. - Fixed a bug where the bots threw an exception removing themselves from the NPC Controller when removed from the crew list in the online menu. - Additional fix for the problem where for some unknown reason, folks are getting the error "cannot connect to steampowered.com" when in fact they do have internet connection and the disable UPNP fix doesn't work for them. - Mummy ragdolls now properly hooked up to NetworkManager.

Content Drop: New Starfish Enemy!

This week you better cover your face, because the ever-hopping and face-hugging Starfish have joined the legions of foes you'll face in The Living Infinite!
These sticky fellas can be found in The Atlantic, Frozen, Dark, and Prehistoric biomes, free-floating throughout the ocean waiting for their true love to come find them. Once latched, they won't let go without some assistance, so be sure to let your crew know when you get face-grabbed!

Content Drop: New Recruits + Balance Tweaks!

This week's content drop we're bringing you two new Recruitable NPCs for the Frozen and Volcanic biomes respectively: The Yeti Crab and The Tiki Golem! These stocky fellas will replace the regular ol' bots you could find on sale previously in these biomes, so now all biomes should be fitted with proper recruits!
In other news, this drop is also coming with a few small tweaks and fixes based on the responses we've gotten on the new update. Here are those changes: - All Sub Upgrades' effects have been DOUBLED now that they are more difficult to aquire. Upgrades are now more valuable and useful all around! - Fixed Elixirs' effect text not displaying correctly. - Acid Mod for Ammo now has new visuals and has a wider radius of effect and lasts longer before dissapating. - Upgrades should be showing in front of players' as to not get accidentally hidden behind scenery. - Increased base health of Recruits from 10 to 15 for better survivability. EDIT: I've also uploaded the new Recruit assets to the Wiki Materials Folder for you Wiki Editors (aka mostly ADcrafter), just FYI!

New Expedition Type: Lairs! - These mysterious new expedition types have begun to appear in the trench; abandoned undersea workshops filled with abandoned tech, including a precious Upgrade Crate! But be warned, for these valuable Upgrades are guarded by....
New Boss: Lair Guardians! - These hulking masses of abandoned copper and iron are set to crush any and all intruders who dare try and take their precious cargo. But don't be fooled by their size, Lair Guardians also come equipped with all kinds of dangerous gadgetry to put a stop to your crew.

Branching Paths! - Take careful notice of your Radar, because on your travels you may notice that occasionally you'll come across branching paths that will determine what kind of Expedition you come across. Will you explore a Cave for resources and treasure? Or will you enter a Lair and fight for a new Upgrade? Choose wisely, for once you pick a path, quick-moving water currents will ensure you won't be able to return.
Ruby Chests! - With Lairs holding the key to ship Upgrades, Caves just got a lot more wealthy! These huge golden treasure troves are stashed away at the end of caves, holding within them a large stash of valuable Rubies, ensuring your future cave expeditions will be lucrative ones.

Balance

- Caves no longer contain Upgrade Crates. - Caves have a much lower chance of producing long or second floor caves, with the probability increasing the deeper you go. - Crate Hermit crabs have been replaced with Barrel Hermit Crabs in caves. - Dodge rolling now has proper Dark Souls style invincibility frames! - Volcanic boulders now fall a little slower to give more time to react. - Zoomed out the tactical view 40% more. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Crate Update #7: The Bug Crate (0.7.3)

This update is chock-full of bug fixes and balance features, all reported and requested by you guys! Figured a bit of cleanup work was to be done, so Jordan and Ryan went ahead and squashed as many problems as they could find these past few weeks!

Fixes/Improvements:

-AI crew members' pathfinding process is now multithreaded, which is a heck of a lot quicker. -Every remote procedure call in our code base has been carefully modified to ensure exceptions are handled with every reference and error reporting is dramatically improved (log files are now even more useful for networking bugs!) -Kicking players mid-game! The third time a player is brigged they are kicked out of the game completely! *Please* use only on abusive players rather than newbies - we reserve the right to remove this feature if it is making the game impossible to play for newer players. -Fixed a bug in AI crew member task allocation causing them to only want to revive the host, but not clients, while in expeditions. -Fixed periscopes remaining after entering a cave. -Fixed players being able to move and use items when in the bed during expeditions. -Fixed a bug where mid-game joining players would never see wall barnacles as hatched if they had hatched before joining (the barnacles kept growing too - hoo boy). -Made a failsafe to ensure that mid-game joining players' sea backgrounds and rock sprites all match up with the current biome. -Fixed a bug where a player could use their weapons and a battery after leaving the brig. -Fixed a bug in AI crew member pathfinding causing them to take straight-up comical paths, flip around erratically, etc. -Fixed a bug where two matches coming from the same public IP could cause the wrong one to be joined. -Fixed several default cosmetics not being unlocked (Steward Standard anyone?) -Optimized netcode to use ~95% fewer "Find" functions, which are notoriously slow in Unity. -Gold now displays upon entering civilizations. -The gold meter is much more fast and responsive. -Upgraded Unity version to 2017.3 to get the latest Unity Multiplayer fixes (including an enticing set of fixes related to double-sending and double-receiving remote procedure calls). -Upgraded NAT punchthrough tool and provided it with better reference/exception handling. -Upgraded Steam API to latest available version. -Clam hitboxes are much more fair now. -Fixed a bug where hull breaches in certain areas of the Requin were inaccessible by AI crew members. -Fixed AI crew members falling through the floor on revival. -Fixed a bug where mid-game joining players could have 100% opaque green overlays over the exterior view. -Fixed lampreys not hitting players and reduced their distance before attacking. -Fixed a bug where ManOWar sounds bypassed the SFX volume settings. -Fixed shop cases only being able to be paid out by the host. -Made access to Discord Rich Presence DLLs safer and improved exception handling.

Explore, talk to the many citizens, spend your hard-earned gold on supplies, upgrades, or even a new crew member to join you on your adventure. Meant for adventurers with a taste for curiosity and uncovering the stories the living infinite has the offer, the Translation Book will make a diplomat out of you yet! Merchants!

Depend no more purely on lady luck to net you the upgrades you need! Track down the local merchant of any civilization to browse their wares and pool together your uncovered gold to buy the items you need fair and square! Of course you COULD Just take what you want instead with the five finger discount, but be warned that the locals don’t take kindly to thieves…

Freemankiller has provided us with valuable feedback almost since launch a year ago. His ability to find exploits and present them to us has been a huge tool for improvement. But his choice for this month comes from his ever-present bombastic participation in the community contests held in January! As with all Player of the Month winners, he'll receive four extra copies of Deeper to give to friends! As a fair warning, given the sheer size of this update, we almost certainly have some new bugs hiding, waiting to strike, that will need help tracking down as they come up. But we’re very optimistic and very excited to bring you guys this update after a whole year on early access! As always keep sending us your feedback and your reports as they come up, and we'll continue to try and make We Need To Go Deeper the best it can be! Happy handshaking!

The New Years' Games - Final Results

Welcome to the final results of The New Years' Games! For our final contest, we had you guys sending us your Deeper-related art and fiction, and while there was only a few of you who entered (and some of you who seemed to create entries but never formally entered the contest as per our Contest Rules), we at least got some great art out of it!

Winners

1st Place in Visual Art goes to the amazing Bee with their hand-sewn entry in the form of an adorable plush-ified Espadon vessel! Seriously, the whole team was so enchanted by this cute-as-nails entry, thank you so much for making it, Bee. ːsteamhappyː You'll be sent your gift copy shortly! http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1280611992 1st Place in Fiction was a lot tougher to decide on. The team deliberated for a long time but since we couldn't come to an agreement, this award is officially tied between ADcrafter's short but sweet comedy piece and Freemankiller's elaborate self-made-biome piece - congratulations, guys! You both get copies because we're indecisive! You can find both of their winning entries here: ADcrafter: http://steamcommunity.com/app/307110/discussions/4/1692659769947091905/ Freemankiller:http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=974802563/

Honorable Mentions

There were two additional entries the team were big fans of over the course of this competition, that unfortunately did not qualify for judging given neither of them were officially entered via the comments of last week's announcement, as per entry rules. Nonetheless, we wanted to highlight them anyway for being solid works in and of themselves: Crimson's simple but elegant little piece describes an intruiging futuristic post-apocalyptic version of Deeper's world, with some clever use of the game's own title: http://steamcommunity.com/app/307110/discussions/4/1692659769959486616/http://steamcommunity.com/app/307110/discussions/4/1692659769959486616/ Do We Really Need To Go Deeper?'s aptly named, "Mastapiece" managed to make me squirt my morning coffee out my nose when I saw it in all its glory, and really, isn't that the purpose of all art? http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1282478845 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks again for all of you who entered! Buckle up, because next week is We Need To Go Deeper's 1 Year Anniversary on Early Access, and the update we have been cooking up is going to be a doozy!

The New Years' Games - Week 3

Welcome back to the The New Years' Games! Last week we had you speed diving, and while we didn't get many entrants, those brave enough to venture forward (and patient enough to deal with our many balance/bug problems which your videos helped us identify, thank you guys so much!) did pull through with some pretty awesome run-times. But only one team was the fastest.... Congratulations to Mr. Great White The III and Crimson for their incredible 18 minute, 34 second race to the bottom! Ya'll will each be sent your winning game key shortly! You can check out their speedy adventure here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnRhm08tkAg Thanks once again to all of the entrants for participating, and for detailing their troubles in their many failed attempts. Speed-running is one of the most sure-fire ways to catch new bugs and balance problems, so we thank you all for supplying us with valuable information going forward! (And we managed to patch one of the more extreme bugs recently, so let us know if y'all end up in a blank ocean void again.)

Week 3: Artsy Fartsy!

This week's contest is all about stretching those creative muscles once more to craft some fabulous works of We Need To Go Deeper inspired art, of both the visual and wordy variety. The theme is rather open this time, as to allow for a wide variety of submissions. All we ask is that you showcase your love (or frustration) with your We Need To Go Deeper experiences through the lens of a creator. You can draw, paint, pixel-art, or write your work of art however you like! There are no rules in art, man. EXCEPT THESE ONES.

Rules

ATTENTION: YOU MUST FOLLOW ALL OF THESE RULES TO QUALIFY. 1. Draw or Write a We Need To Go Deeper inspired piece of art or fiction. (or do both!) 2. Upload your art to the WNTGD Steam Community Hub: (Click the big "Upload Your Art" button in the upper right corner and select a file.) http://steamcommunity.com/app/307110/images/ If you have a fiction piece, instead create a post with your fiction piece included in our Lore & Stories subforum here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/307110/discussions/4/ or if you'd rather, create your fiction piece in an appropriately categorized/labeled Steam Guide: http://steamcommunity.com/app/307110/guides/ 3. Link to your art submission or fiction post in the COMMENTS section below. 4. Your work must be your own. That means no plagiarism, lifting/photoshopping other pieces of art, infringing on other people's copywritten works, etc. 5. You may only have ONE entry for each category (visual art and fiction).

Winners and Prizes

1st Place in Visual Art: The creator of our favorite art piece, whether it be the most dazzling or simply the most entertaining (so no, you don't need to be the most amazing artist to compete if you have a good sense of humor), will be awarded an extra copy of We Need To Go Deeper! 1st Place in Fiction: The creator of our favorite work of fiction based on overall entertainment value will also be awarded an extra copy of We Need To Go Deeper! All entries are due no later than January 28, 8:00pm MST. Good luck, and happy diving!

The New Years' Games - Week 1

Come one, come all to the We Need To Go Deeper community New Years' Games! As mentioned in our last update, there will be no content updates this month as we prepare for a large-scale anniversary update in February. Instead, this month will be filled with weekly community-driven contests where you fine folks will have a chance to win free copies of We Need To Go Deeper to give to friends and family to kick off the new year!

Week 1: The Name Game!

This first contest is going to be our simplest and accessible for just about anybody with a knack for goofy names. Your goal this week is to come up with new names for some of WNTGD's inhabitants. You may have noticed that WNTGD's mini-bosses, bots, and in future, NPCs, are named in-game using a pool of random goofy names. To make games fresh, we want these name pools to be as varied but as fitting as possible! Specifically, here are the characters you'll be coming up with names for:
Bots - Find a way to incorporate the word "Bot" or "Robot" into a humorous first and last name combo (Male or Female, preferably both). Examples: Bot Smith, Lucille Bot, Jerry Botfield, etc.
Mini-Boss: Crystal Bug - Combine a first name that would suit this crystally bug fella from the new Aurelian biome with 3 titles for each possible mini-boss variant: a giant slower variant with increased damage and health, a regular speed large variant with increased damage, and a speedy shrunken variant. Examples: Crys the Hardened, Krkkle the Quick, etc.
Atlanteans - Last but not least, come up with names for the denizens of one of our next update's civilizations, The Atlanteans! No pre-determined naming schemes other than how well it seems to fit their fishy appearance, so go wild on these guys!

Rules

1. To qualify, you must submit your full list of suggested names, preferably labeled so we know what characters you are suggesting names for, in the COMMENTS of this very update post. (We'd rather not have a bajillion redundant forum threads about these contests, so let's keep the entries all in one place, yeah?) 2. You may submit a maximum of 15 names TOTAL. Any additional names from the same user past the first 15 will be discounted, so make em count!

Judging Criteria

We'll be judging names on two simple criteria: 1. Appropriateness - Both in terms of how fitting a name is for a certain character or else how appropriate it is to put in a professional product. That means no slurs, swears, or otherwise anything future-you would be ashamed of. 2. Cleverness - This one's purely going to be based on the devs' sense of humor and opinions, but cleverness is just, ya know, how clever the name is thought out. I dunno how to explain cleverness, y'all. Just come up with names that are interesting or amusing and I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Winners and Prizes

1st Place: 1 entrant with our favorite name/names (again, quality over quantity but if you can manage a lot of top quality, all the better obviously) will have their best names featured in-game by the next update, AND they will be awarded 2 copies of We Need To Go Deeper! Runner Ups: Anyone else who posts a name the team likes enough will have their best names featured in-game starting next update and be recognized as a runner up in next week's contest post! There's plenty of room for runner ups, so post away! All entries are due no later than January 14, 8:00pm MST. Good luck, and happy naming! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Very Special Side Note:

For those who may not be aware, as part of our Early Access promise, the We Need To Go Deeper devs do a bi-monthly live-stream for fans every other Saturday. To encourage more fan participation, we will be giving away a code for this Stream-Exclusive "Shark Cat" hat to those who come by to visit and chat! You can follow the Deli Interactive Twitch Channel to stay updated on when we go live at www.twitch.tv/deliinteractive

Community

Coming to us from amechami, a reminder of the danger posed by throwing insults.
::: Player of the Month :::: December's Player of the Month is none other than our friendly neighborhood mod, ChildishRambino! ChildishRambino has been around since the early days, going as far back as the April Update, and has been an avid supporter and community leader ever since. Between his countless efforts to spread the game to everyone and anyone, by talking about it with various streamers and content creators, and his great sense of humor and always-friendly demeanor, ChildishRambino has done more than enough to earn his title as Player of the Month, and we're only sorry it took this long to give him the recognition he deserves. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update Announcement: January

Now would be a good time to go ahead and explain our plans to everyone regarding January's Update. Namely, that there will be no official Update in January, but instead, several Community Competitions to kick off the new year! We're doing this for a few reasons: 1. Having no update in January will give us the extra time we need/desire to help make our Anniversary Update (Feb. 8th will mark a year since launch) the best it can possibly be! We have big plans for February's update, and we would love for it to go as smoothly as possible. 2. We've been on a roughly 2-week update schedule (counting events, crate updates, etc.) for almost a year now, and while the experience has been amazing, our small dev team could use some time to relax with family for the holidays before jumping back into a full schedule. On that note, if you guys have any ideas for what kinds of community-driven competitions, challenges, or contests you'd like to see, let us know in the comments or forums!

Hey y'all! Nick from Deli Interactive here, and as you may have noticed, this month's update got delayed... With good reason, however! This next update is introducing a brand new BIOME, and will be accompanied by our Winter Event! While we don't have a beta ready yet, in the interest of not keeping y'all in the dark, here's a few previews of some of the new content we're working on:
This early photoshop mockup of the new biome, The Aurelian Depths, showcases the vivid, otherworldy atmosphere we are aiming for in this jellyfish-centric biome. Hard crystals and rock-burrowing Sea Worms contrast the maternal vibes the rest of the area will be conveying. The biome has changed a lot since this mockup, but it still conveys the overall sense of what you'll be seeing in this biome.

These two are a few of the new enemies you will encounter in the new jellyfish-laden biome. One of these fellas will be able to regenerate limbs once detached from the sub, and the other packs a powerful electric blast that can knock your power right out!
Last but not least, you can get a taste of the otherworldy atmosphere for the Aurelian Depths via its completed music track, composed by Jake Lives! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sorry once again for the delay, but we're very excited for the new mechanics and gameplay possibilities this biome will bring to Deeper, so we appreciate your patience with us in the interest of making sure it's the best it can be! As always, continue leaving your feedback and reports, so we can keep trying to improve We Need To Go Deeper!

Crate Update #6 - The Grease Crate (0.6.7)

Get greasy with this month's Crate Update! New Bots and improvements, along with a sprinkling of other fixes are all wrapped up in this nuts and bolts package!

Features

New Bot Types! - You asked for it, so we added a new Bot Selection feature to let you pick Bots with different specialties to bring on your adventures! Introducing the rough-and-ready Fight Bots and the hippocratic oath-ing Med Bots! To choose a bot type, select the Bot portrait after adding a Bot in a lobby to bring up the Bot Selection Menu, and diversify away!
64 Bit Performance Boost! - Those with 64 bit operating systems are in for a treat, because they just got a big ol' performance boost with this update thanks to some good old fashioned compiling nonsense. It's hard to explain, but trust us, the game is a little faster now for y'all living in the 64 bit future world.
Steam Friend Invites! Last but not least, you can now invite your Steam friends into games directly using our high-tec "Invite" button in the game lobby! Ping your friends like it's the 90's and everyone has a pager. I never had one, but I hear they worked exactly like Steam Invites.

Fixes

- Fixed auto-disconnects caused by sub deletion. - Fixed removal of spaces in Steam Lobby data causing long lobby creation times. - Possibly fixed players disconnecting while on cannon causing it to be unusable or locking in other players. --------------------------------------------------- Let us know what y'all think of the new update as always! And stay tuned these next few months, because we're finally starting to break free of the mandatory technical updates and can dive back into that sweet, sweet content we all like so much.

The Sudden Arrival Update (0.6.6) | Mid-Game Joining, Discord Integration More!

Prepare yourself, because November's Official Content Update is comin' in hot! Mid-Game Joining, new state-of-the-art Discord integration and more has arrived!

Features

Mid-Game Joining! - Thanks to the power of Time Travel (and countless coffee fueled network code nights for Jordan), players can finally join adventures in progress! Now you can warp into games guns-blazing, and rescue crews from their demise, or else host a public game yourself filled with a skeleton crew of Bots, to have them replaced by real players over the course of your adventure! Who needs to wait around in lobbies when you have swashbuckling Mid-Game Join action!?
Note: If you'd rather not have players warping into your session, or else if you want Bots to be irreplaceable by mere mortal flesh, you can toggle both of these via Game Options in the Lobby.
Discord "Rich Presence" Integration! - The top secret labs over at Discord Head Quarters have been brewing up a brand new way to join games with friends, and we've been along for the ride! Discord's newest feature is called "Rich Presence" - and We Need To Go Deeper is on board! https://discordapp.com/rich-presence With Rich Presence, your Discord friends can see what you are up to in-game, displaying everything from what Biome you are currently traversing, to what submarine you are driving! More importantly, they can see how big your crew is, so they'll know the perfect time to warp into your game! We Need To Go Deeper is among the first group of games to integrate with Discord in such a way, so now you too can feel like you're getting in on some real ground-floor gaming science. Also - The We Need To Go Deeper Discord is now Verified! So if you haven't already, join the Official WNTGD Discord community and get in on the sweet, sweet, science action.
New Relics! - The Living Infinite spills its secrets once more with brand new Relics to uncover in every biome. Each one is chock full of juicy hints regarding The Living Infinite's mysterious history and cultures, so bust out your shovels and start digging... for knowledge.
Tips! - You'll notice when diving into another adventure that some helpful new in-game tips will occasionally pop up to remind you how to engage with the world! These tips are here to help new and returning players learn how to get into the swing of things! Veteran swashbucklers who would rather not see these tips can also turn them off at will via the Options Menu.
Command Wheel as Quick Chat! - The Command Wheel (Middle Mouse by Default) has been equipped with brand new functionality! Now not only can you use the command wheel to order around loyal Bots, but you can order around your human crew as well! At the touch of a button, send snap messages to your team about your need to heal, assistance with torpedoes (which Bots are also now capable of), or just tell them they're doing a [strike]great[/strike] terrible job! Additionally, the Command Wheel is no longer exclusive to the Host! Joining players can shout at their team and bots as well as anyone.

Bug Fixes

- Fixed Bots not being able to navigate past frozen/vined up doors. Bots will now destroy door obstacles when needed. - Fixed Bots occasionally getting stuck in submarine hatches. - Fixed player count displaying incorrectly on LAN games. - Online games should (hopefully) no longer be able to exceed max player limits. - Fixed custom game option player health not being applied to clients correctly. - Fixed loadout confirmation being dependent on other players.

Community Highlights

::: Player of the Month ::: November's Player of the Month award goes to... därSeebär! This one has been a long time coming, because while Steam user därSeebär has only recently jumped back into the community proper after a period of absence (a friendly reminder that real life should always take priority over games of course), it's hard to overstate just how helpful this dude is whenever he has been present. därSeebär has taken an incredibly professional and leader-like approach to everything he's done in the WNTGD community, from creating helpful templates and guides to smooth the process of editing the WNTGD Wiki, to jump-starting the creation of an official group for diligent Wiki editors, and on top of that taking on Mod duties within the WNTGD Discord and Steam Forums. This guy's been ever-helpful and supportive since day one, and showcases an admirable sense of professionalism in everything he does. Thank you, därSeebär! As always, the Player of the Month will be sent 4 copies of WNTGD to send to friends and family as a reward for their efforts. ::: Community Showcase ::: First up on the showcase is this incredible Halloween costume of Pale Jaw, sent to us by fan Eve Moran. We were blown away by this creation, and the attention to detail (Pale Jaw seen here munching on a small model of The Crevette) really puts the [strike]cherry[/strike] candy corn on top. Thanks Eve!
Speaking of costumes, we also received via email these great hand-made costume suggestions for WNTG characters by fans OnkelTino and bubuassnibba! The french artist is by far my favorite of the bunch here. We may yet see some of these become a reality yet.
Meanwhile, resident goat enthusiast Gote The Capricorn Trickster has been brewing up these cute and fun fan designs for a "Land Shark" pet, this one being my favorite: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1146830392 In less cute news, Wrzlprnft seems to be performing some kind of black magic ritual with the Dev team lately. Here's hoping we'll survive whatever hexes he's got planned. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1163802814 For those looking for a laugh, ZeroScotty brewed up a new video recently detailing their crew's first experience with some particularly rude Bots, fashioned and edited into a few choice highlights from their adventure: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1175610956 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As always, let us know what you guys think of the new update, and be sure and leave your thoughts in the forums! Happy diving, y'all!

Mid-Game Joining 0.6.6 Beta is LIVE!

Hey y'all! We're once again releasing some of the new update's features out to Beta early so we can stress-test if before the official release! This time around, Mid-game joining (Joining a game in-progress) is the new feature we want you guys to test out! It's one of the biggest changes thus far and can have a TON of ramifications on the rest of the game and its stability, so this is definitely a feature that needs to be put through the ringer. The "I Need To Go Deeper" Update (0.6.5) | Crew Bots Fall Event live!

https://youtu.be/yuWfGz4w3wQ Grease those joints up for the official October content update! The Incredible Gear-Driven Gentlemen and Wind-Up Women are here, along with the New Fall Event!

Features

Crew Bots! The most handy and helpful Crew Bots are here! Fresh off the Assembly Line, these approximations of human crew members can help fix, defend, and help you on your feet during future expeditions! They've even been programmed to have unique personalities, so it's like you never left home! (Disclaimer: Not a cure for homesickness.) Here is a full list of the amazing things your brand new Crew Bots can do:
 • Repair Vessels!
 • Defend Against Invading Foes!
 • Man the Weapons!
 • Change Power on Command!
 • Revive Fallen Comrades!
 • Explore Caverns!
 • Future Functions Pending!
While Crew Bots are able to make their own decisions (most of the time), you can command your bots to do any of these tasks yourself by utilizing the amazing Command Wheel! (Middle Mouse by Default)
To add Bots to your next adventure, either Online or Offline, just fill a player slot with these handy Bot-Buttons!™

Fall Event

The Heads of the Horseman Fall Event is Live!
 • 5 New Unlockable Cosmetics!
 • 2 New Spooky Enemy Types!
 • 1 New Mini-Boss!
As the leaves descend from the trees, so too does the vengeful Headless Horseman rise from his resting place, donning atop his head twisted mutations of the season's harvest! Only problem is - The Horseman's Heads have disappeared!

Of course, there's always the possibility that someone will discover the lost Heads of the Horseman first, should they manage to overcome a plump pumpkiny fate. Even rarer are those that may come across and overcome The Horseman himself, and lay claim to his very own wardrobe! Act quick, mortal adventurers, for The Horseman will return to his grave on November 10th.

Balance & Fixes

-Time Traveler will not appear after game over. -Time Traveler slightly less likely to rescue crew from dire situations. -Fixed a bug causing grabber and stabber type enemies to collide with the sub from inexplicable distances ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A huge thanks to all of the community members who helped us test out this update so we could iron out the kinks! There are surely still more kinks to iron out, but we couldn't have released this without y'all! Thanks again, and happy diving!

0.6.5 Beta is LIVE! (With Rewards!) | Player of the Month Announced!

After a few sleepless nights, The Crew Bots are finally ready to be Beta Tested! And given the importance of this update's new main feature to our playerbase, we're bringing back Beta Testing Rewards in the form of the Duopus Hat! Read on to see instructions on how to qualify.

How To Earn the Duopus Hat:

1. Play the new 0.6.5 Beta Branch (see below for instructions). 2. Test out the new Crew Bots feature (see below for instructions). 3. Make a new post in the We Need To Go Deeper Steam Discussions with "BETA" included in the title of the post, outlining your feedback on the new Beta within. Friend requests will then be sent out to those who qualify at the end of the Beta phase, and be given their Duopus Hat code.

How To Join The Beta:

1. Right click We Need To Go Deeper in your Steam Library. 2. Click "Properties" 3. Click the "Betas" tab. 4. Opt into the "beta" branch. 5. Wait for the download to finish, and play!

How To Use Bots:

Crew Bots are now available to activate or deactivate at will in any Online or LAN Lobby via these fancy little metallic buttons. Simply click the button to fill the slot with a Crew Bot in place of a human! Single player games are now possible with this, and Bots will happily fill in to help out smaller crews! The plan from here is to use your feedback to get these Crew Bots whipped into shape, balance-wise and polish-wise! We'll keep patching until we think it's ready for an official release! Enjoy, and let us know what you think of the new Crew Bots! ----------------------------------------------

Player of The Month

While this month was slower than most, our most passionate community members kept the discussion alive throughout, and most importantly, kept up their sense of fun and humor despite the recent lull! One player in particular has kept up his sense of humor throughout all of Early Access, more often than not causing many team-members to spill their coffee over his dry, often unexpected wit. That's why Bread Scientist is October's Player of the Month! While Bread Scientist may not be posting regularly, when he does you can be sure it'll deaden your spirits in the best way possible. With his Bill Murray-esque dry humor sensibilities, Bread Scientist manages to keep up a very consistent record of making developers and fans alike burst into laughter. Thanks Bread Scientist for all the laughs, and keep up the good work!

Update 0.6.5 Has Been Delayed :(

Sorry for the lateness of this announcement, as I'm sure many of you are wondering why today's scheduled Content Update did not go live. In short - we have a few more major kinks to work out of this new update, as it features some pretty crazy complicated new things - AI Helper Bots mainly - that as it turns out, could not be churned out with sufficient polish in a mere month's time. We'd rather delay than release something we know isn't ready to be played with yet, so unfortunately we're gonna have to take a little longer to kick these Bots into high gear, so to speak. We had planned on releasing a Beta version of the build by the end of the day if it was functional enough, but here we are and that's not the case. Hopefully this week should see a release of a Beta version of this new update for y'all to test with so we can get these Bots into tip-top shape for the official release! As always, thank you all for your patience and continuous feedback! We try not to delay an update unless absolutely necessary, but we think you guys will appreciate the end result!

Crate Update #5 - The Squishy Crate (0.6.3)

Unpack a whole lot of squishy, slimy monstrosity and good old fashioned balance changes in this month's Crate Update!

Features

New Boss: The Quadken! - A new four-tentacled behemoth has arrived in the depths of The Atlantic Waters in the form of the squishy and monstrous Quadken! The Mother of all Duopi, The Quadken will do anything to protect her young from surface invaders, and with four powerful tentacles to shield her, daring adventurers will have to outmaneuver and outsmart this angry mother if they wish to venture past her sticky domain.
Swap-At-Will Sub Weapons! - After our many attempts to balance our previous iteration of the two-gun ammo system for the Weapon Station, we have once again altered the functionality of the Weapons Station as you know it! Now those at the Weapons Console will be able to swap shooting styles at will at the press of a button! By default, A and D will now swap the current gun being used by the Submarine, with Weapons Power being used instead to determine how much firing power you have available to you at any given time!
Time Traveler Rescue! - When put into dire situations, The Time Traveler now has a chance to come to your rescue! Whether it be through dumping a load of Health Elixirs into the ship, warping your vessel out of a messy situation entirely, or restoring your vessel to its original unbroken state of being, The Time Traveler is here to help! Sometimes. More often now, anyway. Special Tip: The Time Traveler is even more likely to help now with some encouragement.

Balance

Balance-palooza! Balancing out some of our new features and long-standing issues has been a major priority of this update! In fact, the last two features listed above are in themselves also features of this balance shift. Now for the rest of the Balance-palooza: -The EMP no longer uses fuel! Instead, it recharges over the course of a minute, and has helpful light indicators to show it recharging! Use unlimited times! -The base EMP damage has been increased -The machine gun now fires slower at one power and faster at two power than the previous update's values. -The time traveler is now especially fond of the phonograph. Perhaps keeping one around will encourage him to bring in nice things? -The cheat checker should now actually shut down cheated games. -The dynamic difficulty system is now willing to give much longer rests to crews who turn the engines off -Rests caused by extended combat time are now longer on average

Fixes

-Solid rocks using polygon colliders! Tired of the sub flying into the rocks and getting stuck forever? Tired of enemies doing the same thing? We were too. -Fixed several cave chunks which had impossible ladders or would yield a path that couldn't be traversed by players -Fixed a bug that was causing "custom game" parameter to be sticky and incorrectly flag a game as custom (preventing saving of newly found items) -Fixed some bad logic on doors causing them too close early or not stay open for players

Other

-The exterior camera is now more zoomed out during boss fights so you can see those sweet sweet Quadken animations.

Official Soundtrack Now Available for FREE! - Even though the game is still in development, many of you have been asking us time and time again when we'd be able to make available all of the tracks we have thus far. Starting today, we've released and will continue to release all of the game's tracks for FREE on Soundcloud! Kick back and relax to the sweet sounds of "The Marvelous Music of We Need To Go Deeper." Additionally, be sure to check out our Bonus Album, "Buried Treasure" - full of all of our unused/demo tracks!

Bug Fixes

-Found and fixed a problem in identifying weapons in hand over the network which was causing packet buildup and desync -Fixed a potential off-by-one network identity numbering bug caused by a prefab with two network identities -Optimized interior enemy collision/trigger checking -Fixed two more sources of move speed bugs -Fixed a scaling problem on puke piles (seriously, how do these guys keep coming up with problems?) -Dynamite can no longer repair breaks - yes, even if you aim it really well. -Fixed a problem getting fish school sprites after changing water layer -Fixed the bug causing permanent disarming if a player is thrown in the brig while carrying a torpedo or battery -Fixed a problem where networked position syncing failed to account for gravity scale -Made one more failsafe for a rare bug where an exterior enemy spawns directly after entering a cave, which cannot be killed

Balance

-Fuel drop chance in caves increased 10% -Battery drop chance in caves increased 13% -Increased time between spawns on all hatcher type enemies

Other

-The Espadon now costs 5000 less gold in the catalog -Chat messages now stay onscreen twice as long

::: Player of the Month ::: August's Player of the Month is... Pigeon Man! Pigeon Man has been a huge help in the community, particularly on the forums. Crate Update #4 - The Ramming Crate (0.6.0)

This month's Crate Update is all about quality over quantity. There's not much packed in this crate, but what is here sure does fill a whole lotta space! A new Submarine, Network fixes and more await those who dare unpack The Ramming Crate!

Features

New purchasable submarine with a RAAAAAAAMMMMMMM! IT GO BAAAAAAMMMMM! That's right, a new Submarine has entered the mix, but this time, you better save up your bottom dollar for it! Introducing The Espadon a brand-new vessel equipped with a large sharp nose, made for piercing foes, and charging through obstacles like nobody's business! It's the fastest sub in the game so far, though speed comes at a price, for there are no shields equipped on this bad boy, so you better make good use of your offensive capabilities.

Fixes

-FINALLY fixed permanent movement impairing effects. -Entirely new low-bandwidth smooth position syncing for players, interior enemies, and some exterior hazards -Excess spawn points in caves now spawn more decorations - caves should look ever so slightly more lively -Fixed a problem with connection logging that was giving us weird impossible data when we looked at connection success rates -Fixed bubbles and other particle emitters which were throwing errors after scenes had changed -Fixed yet another problem that was causing the Blobfish not to leave puke all over the sub. Now he will. You're welcome. -Fixed a problem where the barnacle swiper could damage the sub multiple times in a row

Balance

-The amount of gold per pile has been reduced to accommodate the higher treasure drop rate from the last update -Fuel drop rate similarly decreased in caves to accommodate the higher treasure drop rate

Community

Some really awesome Community Content was brought to light to us this week thanks to Youtuber Draegast's coverage of some Deeper-flavored fan-made creations in Besiege! Both of these Besiege creations by Censored Studios are beautifully designed recreations of certain aspects of WNTGD! One is a fully-fleshed out Crevette Vessel, complete with all its interior bits and bobs, and the other is a fully-featured mini-game complete with submarine piloting, exploring, shooting swimming enemies and fighting a boss at the end of a trench! If you're a Besiege owner you can download the mods below, and gameplay can be seen in the Draegast video linked below that! http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1081946252 http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1110464522 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTierlohU9U&feature=youtu.be&t=5m41sid=1110464522&searchtext=deeper ---------------------------------------------------------------- Let us know what you think of the update as always! Happy diving! ---------------------------------------------------------------- Stealth fixes (post-update patched items): -Fixed a move speed bug which was causing players to speed off in negative directions -Torpedoes no longer explode on contact with the Espadon ram -Ram damage is much more proportional to the speed of the crash -Ram now damages ice chunks properly, and deals more damage to ice chunks on average than enemies -Updated Unity to 5.6.3, which alleges more networking stability fixes, especially with the specialized connection types and channels we use for Deeper (see all fixes marked "Multiplayer" in https://unity3d.com/unity/whats-new/unity-5.6.3) -Torpedo damage has been redistributed. A direct hit yields 6 damage, whereas area of effect damage yields 5 damage (adjusted from the previous 10 for direct hit and 1 for area of effect) -Increased Perle submarine speed 10% for all power levels -Reduced max cave enemy count by 17% -Reduced "hatcher" enemy type frequency by ~15%, depending on biome -Fixed a couple of obvious graphical mishaps in the Espadon interior

We Need to Go Deeper is a 2-4-player cooperative submarine roguelike set in a Verne-inspired undersea universe. In the game, you and your crew must embark on many voyages into a mysterious undersea trench known as The Living Infinite.

To be successful in your mission, you and your crew will have to work together to pilot a submarine, as only with your submersible in-tact will you be able to live to see the bottom of The Living Infinite.

2-4-Player Co-op

Designed with human interaction in mind, We Need to Go Deeper was created to encourage friends to shout at each other. The current version features 2-4 player cooperative multiplayer- either through a Local Area Network or Online, or with Bots to fill in for empty slots!

Procedural Generation

The Early Access version currently features a fully fledged procedural generation system that creates a new trench layout every time you take a dive, diversifying things further with 8 unique biomes and a work-in-progress "AI Dungeon Master" who alters difficulty on the fly.

Pilot and Maintain Your Submarine

Repair leaks, load torpedoes and route power to Shields, Lights, Weapons, and the Engine as you and your friends dash around the submarine on its voyage into the deep.

Deep Sea Expeditions

Leave the safety of your submarine to explore procedurally generated undersea caves, where you may come across treasure and danger in equal measure.

Customize Your Adventurer

Choose from a variety of era-specific outfits from the 19th century to spruce up your adventurer! Non-gender-specific mustaches included.

Unlock a Variety of Tools

From repair wrenches to guns, to fish-mincing meat cleavers, a variety of tools and weapons for helping your teammates is waiting to be discovered!

More Biomes and Enemies

A total of 10 unique biomes are planned for the full release. Each biome will come chock full of unique enemies such as alien jellyfish, volcanic tortoises, burrowing worms, and many others to better flesh out The Living Infinite's dangerous underwater world.

Big Bad Bosses

A variety of large-scale boss battles are planned for each biome, each individually suited to the region they live in. These will serve as the climactic transition between biome zones.

Bigger, Better Submarines

We're hoping to include a few Submarines to choose from in the final game, including a larger-scale sub better suited for 4-man voyages, complete with new consoles such as beds for healing, upgrade stations, leak-fixing drones, etc.

Underwater Civilizations

Discover mysterious undersea civilizations on your voyages who may either help or hinder you and your crew. One unique civilization is planned to inhabit each biome, along with a translator item to help players understand each civilization's colorful languages.

New Items Galore

We plan to continuously add interesting Tools and Weapons throughout development as we come up with new and unique items to take advantage of various play-styles and to better give players a depth of strategic options to choose from, in addition to supplying our players with plenty of items for annoying their friends with.

What's At the Bottom?

Find out what lies at the bottom of The Living Infinite, with an end-game we hope will be both exciting and memorable!

Player of the Month

We know that buying into Early Access can often be a thankless contribution, so every month we'll be highlighting one outstanding player as Player of the Month - where they will receive 4 free copies of We Need to Go Deeper to send to their friends, in addition to being recognized on the title screen for that month's update. This way, we hope that those in our community who really strive to help us transform We Need to Go Deeper into the great game we want it to be will get the proper recognition - and reward - that they deserve.

Active Forums

While we won't always have time to respond to every suggestion or request, we will try and keep the Steam forums an active place for discussion, and promise to keep an active eye on what topics the community is most passionate about.

LIVE Bi-Monthly Developer Chat

Twice a month, we'll also be hosting a live hang-out stream, where anyone can pop in and chat with us developers about, well, whatever you wanna talk about! In the interest of narrowing the divide between Gamers and Developers, we're gonna try and just have some good old fashioned social time with our fans. We'll try to host these on weekends so everyone can come by and play games, watch movies, and generally shoot the breeze with us, in addition to talking about We Need to Go Deeper's development if ya'll fancy it.
