Playtest #34 - The Horde Awakens!

Halloween has arrived! After the launch of our new bots last month, we had to add a zombie mode for everyone to enjoy. It's time to face the horde! We have added a coop menu to launch a private session using Steam invites, otherwise players can launch and vote to play the mode as per the normal host process. Working on this mode allowed us to continue improving the bot logic, make some good optimisations and add more bot supported maps to the selection pool. Some other highlights include newly improved bipod functionality and animations, new passive and adaptive night vision selections, some optimisations to the player ragdolls and more improvements to the wound painting accuracy and consistency. We invite everyone to jump on for some fun battling the hordes of the undead and let us know how many waves you manage to survive through! Playtest #33 - Bots Have Arrived!

As requested by the community, the bots have arrived! Jump into a lobby solo or with friends on either Containment map to play some rounds populated with the newly implemented bots. We finally have bots worthy of showing. This feature has been one of the most requested things by the community and they are now ready to be released. We plan to improve them a lot, but they can still hold their ground currently and navigate throughout the map if they want to take you out using their loadout of choice. This is for all those players wanting some PVE and co-op action. Bot support will be iterated upon and they will make their mark on the game in a more meaningful way in the future. Playtest #32 - Extended By 4 Days!

After a bug infested playtest period, the dedicated servers should now be working and the hitches caused by using melee should hopefully be gone. There have also been a heap of performance improvements thrown in along the way and the pump shotgun chamber time has been significantly increased. With all the issues taken into account we have decided to give everyone an extra 4 days to try out the playtest. From July 5th at 12PM AET until July 16th at 12PM AET:

Playtest #32 - An Unreal Update!

We have finally taken the plunge and updated the game engine from Unreal Engine 4.27.2 to Unreal Engine 5.4.1. This change took a bit to implement, so there isn't as many significant gameplay changes this time around. Players may not notice too much difference, but the upgrade has given us the tools to address many of the performance issues players have been having. We have already made some significant gains in performance in some areas. However, there may also be some performance loses too that we intend to address ASAP. There are new Anti-Aliasing Mode graphical options available now as well to allow players to further tweak their performance. For similar performance to the UE4 version of the game we recommend TAA, however TSR + some slight Resolution Scale reduction can improve visuals and perform nicely as well. With that out of the way, it's time to jump in and hunt down your enemies with the new gun damage range updates that have now been applied to all weapons!

Playtest #31 - If It Bleeds, We Can Kill It!

After receiving a generous amount of feedback last playtest, we went through and did what we could address it. It's time to rally the troops and stay focused to hunt down those pesky Obscurity! After some evolutionary miracle, soldiers can now choose their dominant hand and use either left or right hand to slap (or shoot) their enemies down - even if one of their hands are incapacitated. We also did a huge rework to how shotguns function to improve their reliability and consistency when battling enemies up close, as well as a change to how weapon recoil is applied. Finally, we also added visuals cues in the form of glowing damage impacts whenever you tag on Obscurity to improve teamwork and visual tracking when engaging them. It's time to grab a shotgun, rally your left handed buddies and go hunting for Obscurity. And remember, one hand is better than none! Playtest #30 - Bowling Anyone?

Carry your friends to victory! Now that we are on a two month playtest cycle, we had some time to implement a few of the bigger changes we've had cooking. So grab some friends, literally, and carry them across the line! Alright, enough carrying on. We have added the ability to pick up wounded or dead soldiers and throw them about the place as well. This was a big change, but it has opened a lot of new gameplay features that should prove pretty fun. It is also pretty creepy once an obscurity gets a grip on someone. So gear up, because it is time to go bowling! Alongside this we have a lot of blood related improvements too. Hopefully we get to see everyone painting the town red now. Playtest #29 - A Jolly Time!

Happy Holidays! We decided to combine the December and January playtests together for a two week long playtest over the holiday period. Dedicated servers will be available for the whole duration of this playtest. Get some friends together and come try out the latest update! This time around we have the beginnings of the weapon levelling and attachment unlock system in place, giving players a different selection of attachments per gun to try out from the get-go. The Gun Range has been updated to include weapon benches, so players can test all of the guns and attachments quickly and easily. The Obscurity Elimination game mode has also had some significant changes to scoring and round flow. Many other updates and changes are included, such as new and reworked grenade launchers, a bunch of new headgear and further map updates. Playtest #28 - Spooktacular Vision!

Spooktacular Vision! Dedicated servers are back in action and will be running 24/7 for the duration of this playtest. Bring your Pumpkin headgear and some friends and check out the latest update! This month we have decided to unlock a few more attachments per class for those that want to tweak their weapon setups. We have also thrown in a few new advanced sights to try out, along with a Halloween themed headgear and outfit to keep the scares coming. Playtest #27 - Deep Impact

Deep Impact! P2P is available all week long. Get some friends together and come try out the latest update! This month we aimed to implement something that has been suggested a few times within the community - Bullet Penetration. So, choose your favourite gun and get shooting those surfaces for some collateral damage. We have also greatly improved light blunt damage to hopefully bring it into line with how lethal sharp damage can be. Light blunt damage received will now increase as bones weaken and break. Playtest #26 - Closing The Gap!

Closing the gap! Dedicated servers 7pm-10pm local each night for NA, EU and OCE starting September 1st at 12PM AET. This month had a large focus on melee improvements. The biggest change is a new melee aim assist that will track towards the nearest major limb of an enemy when the melee key is held down. Combined with the ability to use a melee weapon or bayonet while sprinting, this means that the 21 foot rule is now fully realised. Other updates include an FOV slider, reworks to many obscurity firemodes and the implementation of delayed detonations for explosive traps when using the tracking pistol or tank roar abilities. Playtest #25 - The Perfect Combo!

The Perfect Combo! Dedicated servers 7pm-10pm local each night for NA, EU and OCE starting August 4th at 12PM AET. There was a lot of background work this month in preparation for future updates, but there's still some decent things to take note of. Importantly, we have expanded on the displayed weapon stats to help you create the ideal setup. Attachments will now update stats and spray charts as you select them. There are now spray charts for hipfire, aimed and bipod as well. We have also included tooltips to help explain what each attachment does. Other updates include UI click sounds, volume sliders, an ultraviolet torch and a decent balance pass on how fire spreads and is doused to make it a bit less troublesome. Playtest #24 - Into The Darkness!

It's getting darker! Dedicated servers 7pm-10pm local each night for NA, EU and OCE starting July 7th at 12PM AET. A larger update this month. We have a heap of changes to help players illuminate their surroundings when darkness hits, including a big change to how Obscurity players interact with soldiers at night. Bipods also got some love and players can now traverse the map even better with a rework to the Wall Jump skill and the addition of window mantling. The Progression system is still coming along and we have enabled player progression of each loadout class to rank 4, which should allow you all to unlock some useful things along the way for your loadout customisation. Playtest #23 - The Perfect Loadout!

Another month has seen a rework to the loadout editing system in preparation for a revised progression and ranking system that we hope will be more rewarding for players. There are a few changes that players may notice, but the two biggest ones are:

  • Custom loadouts have been replaced with the ability to directly edit the class specific preset loadouts.
  • Loadout ammo, attachments and camos can now be changed directly in-game, while in a match.

It's been 2 months since our last playtest in March and a lot has been achieved. The Outback map has seen a major update and had another optimisation pass performed on it. Playtest #18 - A Jolly Good Time

It's time to get festive! Dedicated servers 7pm-10pm local each night for NA, EU and OCE starting December 2nd at 12PM AEDT. This playtest greatly improves the experience during high latency, making player movement synchronisation much more consistent and enjoyable. We have also implemented a solution to make shadows a viable gameplay option for hiding. Brightness and contrast boosting can no longer be used to see in the dark. July Community Poll Results - HUD Blood and Taunts

This month was a big month. We ran two polls on the Community Discord to decide which two major features would be a focus. The winning selections were 'On-screen Blood Effects' and 'Obscurity Taunt System'. We can confirm that both of these made the update and we are pretty happy with the results. 18+ HUD Blood Demonstration Video

Obscurity Taunts will be available to improve your chances of wiping out the enemy Along with these additions, there are a heap of other content, features and fixes that we managed to implement over the month. Headgear that can be shot off, procedurally generated gibs and head gore caps, new gadgets and extraction effects etc. Finally, official dedicated servers will be live on Fri/Sat/Sun from 6pm-12am local time for NA, EU, OCE and LATAM. (P2P is available throughout the whole 7 day period starting Friday 12pm AET and dedicated server status and local times can be viewed from within the main menu). Playtest #13 - All Week Long

Playtest #13 is now live! This will be our first week long playtest. We plan to run these around the beginning of each month, with P2P available to all for the duration. Official dedicated servers will be live on (Fri/Sat/Sun) from 6pm-12am local time for NA, EU, OCE and LATAM. Monthly Playtest Cycle

We have decided to switch to a monthly playtest cycle. Instead of launching an update & playtest every week, we will instead release one big update around the start of each month. Alongside the update, the game will be playable for an entire week. During each playtest week official dedicated servers will be live on (Fri/Sat/Sun) from 6pm-12am local time for NA, EU, OCE and LATAM. Players can also host their own P2P sessions at anytime during the playtest. Dedicated server events, community discussions, polls and regional LFG channels can be found via the Community Discord. Playtest #13 will begin on Monday July 4th through to Sunday July 10th (It usually begins around 12PM AEST). We will provide patch notes once the playtest goes live and look forward to having some gaming sessions with as many of you as possible. We're hoping that less frequent releases will allow us to work on more ambitious changes and give you more to look forward to on every test. Also, it will hopefully sync up more players to be on at the same time for better matches. Everyone is welcome to Request Access to participate in any or all playtests. Playtest #12 is now live! This week is the week of Meatshield and Inversion stances (plus the ability to change fire modes without the obscurity rifle equipped). We have also updated the obscurity rifle to be a bit closer to the original, but with some morphs thrown in to spice it up a little. Playtest #11 is now live! This week sees the reintroduction of the Outback map now that we have managed to do a decent optimisation pass on it. It now fully supports all of the game modes and weather system, plus a few small tweaks to the layout. There are also some newly added headgear and camo updates for those into soldier fashion. Playtest Weekend #10

Playtest #10 is now live! This week has a lot of updates, but in summary we have unlocked all weapons and gear up to rank 4 per class tree. The requirement of having to unlock them via challenges has been removed for the Playtest to give players a larger variety of content to create some custom loadouts. (Challenges can still be progressed until rank 4 per tree though if you wish to do so) Another big thing is that the outfits and headgear are pretty much updated now to support the new system. Please be aware that we do plan to condense the headgear selection in the future with a more appropriate grouping system. Playtest Weekend #4

There have been some decent changes this week, however one important request has been partially implemented and that is the ability to play as the Obscurity on the Gun Range. This will hopefully assist players in learning how to use them effectively without the pressure of performing in a match. Head left when you load into the Gun Range and access the centre terminal in the newly added room to spawn as an Obscurity. We are also planning for a hint system eventually to help new players really learn what the Obscurity are capable of. Once again, we encourage people to join the community Discord server to chat and organise a round or two. Also, feel free to invite your friends as we will be accepting requests frequently. Playtest Weekend #2

Our first Playtest came to an end today and we learnt a lot from it. The next Playtest is currently planned for this upcoming weekend. Once more, we encourage people to join our Discord server to chat and organise a round or two. Also, feel free to invite your friends as we will be accepting requests frequently. The Playtest will include a Gun Range for players to try out all of the guns and melee weaponry. This will be accessible from the main menu. Finally, we want to say thanks to anybody that took the time to try the first Playtest and we will do our best to sort out the bugs we found.

Firing Up the Playtest Weekends

Starting this weekend we'll be offering some limited access to the Playtest version of the game for early testing and feedback. Initially this will be very limited in scope - if you are granted access to the game and want to play with us please pop by our Discord server to arrange a session with other players! We will be beginning with a very small number of regions and players so we can iron out any matchmaking bugs - so don't worry if you don't hear anything this weekend. At a point in the near future tests will be fully open so you will be able to invite your friends to join right away.
