Hello everyball!
You may not have heard much from us in the recent years. That's mostly because we've been busy working on our next big project.
Now we're ready to reveal that game with its official name and a trailer!
[previewyoutube=-wRZ-VLAqV8;full][/previewyoutube]
Steam Page:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3110760/Alabaster_Dawn/
Here's the short pitch:
Alabaster Dawn is an Action RPG that builds on the best aspects of our previous title, CrossCode. It features a deep combat system, challenging puzzles, and a changing world that will reveal more secrets over time, all bundled up in an engaging story.
The shadow of Nyx has fallenwarping the world into a wasteland and vanishing the gods and their people. Now, Juno the Outcast Chosen, awakes to an impossible task: bring it all back.
The game is still in development but we are working towards releasing a public demo next year and are planning to go early access later in 2025, just like we did with CrossCode.
Aaaand that's it!
If you like what you see, consider wishlisting the game!
Hello, everyball!
On this day, 3 years ago, the 1.0.0 full version of CrossCode was officially released for PC, after years of development and Long-Early-Access. We will celebrate this special occasion with a gift to all our supporters and also use the chance to give you an update on our next game,ProjectTerra!
CrossCode Version 1.4.2 Release
We will be celebrating the 3rd anniversary of CrossCode with the last proper (non-hotfix..) release, which would be version 1.4.2! Luckily it contains almost no new content that we had to actively work on, because the main change would be the removal of the exclusivity of the "Platform-Exclusive Quests". That's right, now players on PC can also do the quests that were only available on Switch/XBox/Playstation before, and the same will be true for all the consoles, once the version will be released on them in the near future! Of course this also means that all the related pets can now be found by everyone! And as an additional goodie, we also added anotherCustom Cup which allows re-fighting battles from those quests with adaptive levels, so even high-level DLC characters with ascended gear are in for a challenge! Other changes include Combat Arts for an ally that mysteriously never got any (whoops...), a 5 years overdue fix of a legendary bug regarding music-looping and some more minor bug fixes, typo fixes and balance tweaks!
Project Terra
Regarding out next project, so far known as Project Terra, we are still working on a playable prototype while also refining our editors and creative vision. In a recent postwe also presented the design of our main heroine, Juno!
(Art by Sibylle Hell) The reception was very positive and we almost instantly received amazing artworks by fans! For now, we're still focusing on getting all the core mechanics worked out. Here's a preview of how things look right now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi1tShnt-Lc If you're curious about our next game, make sure to keep an eye on our blogand Twitter, where we'll post most of our progress. And with all that being said, it's time to finally say goodbye to CrossCode after almost 10 years of development. Thank you so much for supporting us over all those years! Now, it's time for us to focus on new things!
Special thanks to YuiKannon, who has done many CrossCode-fanarts in the past, for drawing those amazing artwork of this post! You'll likely see more art from her in the future on our blog!
Hello everyball!
Starting today, you will find the cast of CrossCode in (yet) another indie game: the deckbuilding card game Quantum Protocol! For the occasion, we also release another hotfix for CrossCode, adding bunch of fixes, a tiny bit of content, as well as a small group of guest characters!
CrossCode x Quantum Protocol
With today's update, Quantum Protocol will include a whole set of new cards featuring several CrossCode characters as well as the four elements for you to use! https://youtu.be/bWF_FiAiDK4 Here is an overview of all newly added cards:
Those cards work in a unique way reflecting the mechanics of CrossCode. You can read more about it in this blog post You can get Quantum Protocol on Steam here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1328530?utm_source=collab&utm_campaign=crosscode
Hotfix version 1.4.1-3
We released another hotfix, mostly fixing bugs and spelling issues. There's also a few small content additions, including:
A new Supporters' Cup to be found among the custom cups, adding a few more quest related boss battles to the arena.
A new room above the Rhombus Square Item Shop assembling a whole bunch of traders for all kind of items.
A couple of guest characters from Quantum Protocol just vibing in a certain inn. Have fun finding them! Unfortunately, with no new dialogs this time. And that's it! Meanwhile, the CrossCode New Home DLC is currently being ported to consoles and we'll let you know once a release date is certain. And otherwise, we're all hard at work on Project Terra, currently working on a lot of things, including a new animations system: https://twitter.com/lachsen/status/1388218721433493505 We'll likely create another post about Project Terra in the future, showing things a bit more in detail. And that's all for today! Until next time!
Hello everyball!
CrossCode is finally complete! Or is it?
As some of you might remember, we introduced you to a certain someone, exactly 6 years ago.
Now guess who's back?
Manlea is here!
Playing as Lea is great and all, but some of you might miss an option for a protagonist who simply is... manlier. That's why we proudly present to you, once again:
Only this time Manlea is real
You can play CrossCode, being Manlea.
You can beat up enemies, being Manlea.
You can talk to other characters, being Manlea*. *Keep in mind that Manlea is still Lea, but manlier. She's still referred to as Lea and with she/her pronouns (a.k.a. we didn't adapt any dialogs). Manlea is now available as a Skin DLC on both Steam and GOG! Get Manlea on Steam Get Manlea on GOG This is no April's Fools joke. This is real. Today just happens to be Manlea's 6 years anniversary. With all that being said: Have fun being Manlea in CrossCode! Also: if you now, for some reason, feel like screaming at us, we'll be available in another gamedev stream this Saturday 20:00 CEST / 11am PDT on our Twitch Channel
Hello everyball!
So... we're not entirely done yet! Today we'll release another small update for the DLC Crosscode: A New Home, adding a bit of more optional content!
What's New?
This update includes a bit of optional content that we originally hoped to released a month ago, but didn't quite manage to finish in time. Version 1.4.1 includes 3 quests as well as a couple of arena cups and new Trade Offers in Rhombus Square. Note that the new content is part of the A New Home DLC and not included in the main game. Here a few impressions of what's included:
Actual boss enemies can be properly seen in the game! This update is pretty much the final content addition to CrossCode! With following releases we only plan to fix remaining bugs and issues. That means, after over 9 years of development, CrossCode has finally been completed!
What about CrossCode 2?
We noticed that several players are now counting on a sequel to be developed, especially due to a certain cutscene in A New Home. We sort of regret adding that cutscene, because the truth is: Right now, there are no plans for a sequel to CrossCode. We definitely had a great time working on this title and see the world and its characters grow. But after 9 whole years, we are ready to work on something new.
Our Next Game
We're currently in the prototyping phase for our next game. That games doesn't have a proper name yet, but it does have a temporary project title: Project Terra Project Terra will be an Action-RPG, with a gameplay mix similar to CrossCode, featuring a new setting and story line! Here are a few impressions you might have seen recently on twitter: https://twitter.com/teflorator/status/1336536291396161536 https://twitter.com/ThomasFroese/status/1376868521024573441 https://twitter.com/teflorator/status/1376981558964408322 https://twitter.com/lachsen/status/1346589705052299270 https://twitter.com/RadicalRegiden/status/1352623637715705857 It doesn't look much like a game yet, but we'll get there! Right now, we're mostly working on tools. We'll talk more about the new project within the next few months. But for now, a short disclaimer:
That's right! The state of Germany is financially supporting the development of the Project Terra prototype! Yay! [strike]Tax money well spend.[/strike] So yeah, expect more, hopefully exciting news soon! Until then!
And here it finally is! After another 2 years, we have finally released the last content extension of CrossCode!
The DLC CrossCode: A New Home is now available on Steam and GOG, currently for 10% off!
If you don't own the main game yet, there is also currently a sale for half the price!
That's really a lot of game for not all that much!
For Indiegogo Backers
Since the early supporters on Indiegogo made the development of CrossCode possible in the first place, we decided to make the DLC a perk of the original "Game" tier (and above) for our Indiegogo backers. You'll find the DLC on CrossCentral (there might be a slight delay with the upload).
What's in the DLC
Here is what CrossCode: A New Home has to offer:
- A playtime of about 8-15 hours
- Ku'lero Temple: Probably the biggest dungeon we've ever created
- Fight against several enemies, including over 10 new bosses
- Run over water for the very first time in the new area Azure Archipelago
- Tackle 8 new optional quests with unique mechanics and scenarios
- Listen to 3 new music tracks composed by /STEEL_PLUS
- Unlock new Arena Cups and Bonus CP to fully upgrade your circuit tree!
- And of course: Finish the raid!
CrossCode Original Soundtrack EX
If you enjoy the new music of the DLC and want to support our composers, you can also buy the new CrossCode Original Soundtrack EX on Bandcamp, Steam, GOG, and other music platforms as well! This soundtrack features not only the new tracks of the DLC, but also a number of more recent CrossCode tracks that didn't make it into the first soundtrack, as well as a selection of old tracks from the early demos and Early Access versions.
State of Localizations
Since we're entirely hopeless with scheduling, we ended up adding too much text content just days before the release. Our localization partners did their best to translate the new content as fast as possible, but still, the localizations might not be 100% complete by the time of the release. Just to be clear: If you see any untranslated text (which will mostly be for quests and other optional content) - that's because we added the content way too recently! We're sorry! The good news is: we're all working on the localization at this very moment and will update the game as soon as it's completed - this will hopefully happen within a week.
How to play the DLC
The DLC will extend the story of CrossCode. So in order to play it, you need to finish the main story of CrossCode first - and you'll need to get the good ending. You've reached the good ending when the final screen looks like this:
However, when the right side of that screen is red, you got the bad ending. Don't worry! You can get to the good ending very quickly by going to the left and replaying the final part of the game. You can even skip the last battles, dungeon, and boss fights. Here's a more detailed guide (with an obvious spoiler warning):
In the Meta Space, go to the left to be set back in time Teleport to Rhombus Square - South Arch Go down the stairs in the south east, then to the east entering Lloyd Passage and keep running further to the east At this point, you might spot Albert sitting in a cafe in the south east of Lloyd Passage Walk to Albert and talk to him! From this point on, the game will give you clear instructions on what to do next. Make sure you convince Albert's friend in the following meeting! If you want, you can safely skip the following raid of Vermillion Wasteland, the final dungeon and the final boss fight to get right to the ending. If you did everything right, you'll get the good ending and can start playing CrossCode: A New Home!
A New Home with New Game Plus
CrossCode: A New Home is fully compatible with NG+ saves. Certain NG+ options such as Sergey Hacks might even slightly change the game's dialog. However, keep in mind that playing the game with certain NG+ options might impact the overall difficulty and entirely negate any sort of challenge. We recommend playing the DLC with a regular save first!
Bugs, Crashes and Worse
This DLC is our first major release since a very long time. Please keep in mind that, as with any major release, things might not be entirely stable yet. There will be bugs. We did a lot of testing and had a very long beta phase prior to the release. However, from experience we know that there will always be issues left that we missed. That's why we'll be set and ready to patch things up as quick as possible, at least for the next week or two! Hopefully, nothing critically bad will happen. But if you want to be extra sure, we recommend keeping a save from the end of the main game. And that's all! Have fun with the DLC! We hope you enjoy the extended story, new battles, and puzzles! Until next time!

Hello everyball!
As you can see, we finally have news for you regarding the CrossCode post-game DLC!
Not only do we have a trailer for you, there's also a release date!
The post-game DLC CrossCode: A New Home
will release for Mac & PC on February 26, 2021!
The release for consoles will follow this summer!
You can already wishlist the DLC on Steam!
Here a list of things you can expect:
An extended Rhombus Square that even includes a beach now!
The new area "Azure Archipelago" - ready to be explored!
Finally completing the raid!
The new Ku'lero Temple - probably the biggest dungeon of the whole game.
Several new quests all around CrossWorlds - you might even end up on a highway!
An extension to the main plot - learn more about how things continue for Lea and the others.
Of course, this DLC also comes with new, exciting music tracks to make the final chapter of CrossCode a very memorable one. However, our usual composer Deniz Akbulut unfortunately wasn't available anymore at this time to make the last CrossCode tracks. He recently has moved to Japan to learn Japanese and enter a university to study music. He had to put his full focus on preparing for the tough entrance exams; his last exam was today actually!
He recommended a good friend of his, who is also incredibly talented, to take over the burden of finishing CrossCode's soundtrack. So, we are proud to announce that the new DLC will feature new music written by /STEEL_PLUS (Twitter)!
We know it took us a while, but as always we wanted to tune all those little knobs close to perfection. What came out of it is something we're very proud of. Thanks for all the support and allowing us to cramp everything in the DLC that we wanted. We did also try to incorporate feedback regarding the difficulty of puzzles (especially those that required precise timings). Once the DLC hits, please let us know what you think of them and the new puzzle element!
And with all that being said... see you again next week, for the release!
Hello everyball!
It has been a long time and we're finally back with a new update! We have news about the console versions as well as some words about the Post Game DLC release date.
Next steps for CrossCode on Consoles
CrossCode on consoles had a somewhat rocky release with a number of performance issues (especially on Switch). Luckily, most of the major issues have been fixed rather quickly! Unfortunately the certification of the patches for the different consoles took longer. At the time of writing, one patch is still in certification for the PlayStation 4. But were getting there. Work on following updates continues of course. The next bigger update however will take a little longer. We have finally started on migrating to the latest build which means that we are also working on New Game Plus for the consoles. Due to the nature of how CrossCode runs on consoles (HTML5 inside a C++ application) this will take some time, as it requires additional testing of previously not included features. We are still quite optimistic to unleash the patch in 2020. But if you ask us for a specific date: No, we can't tell you when exactly NG+ is ready for consoles. But it will happen! As you may already know, in celebration of the CrossCode release for consoles, we teamed up with ININ Games to give you a special limited SteelBook release and a really nice Collector's Edition! These two special non-retail versions of CrossCode are available for pre-order exclusively at the SLG Partner Store. The Nintendo Switch Collectors Edition is currently sold out, but there are still some couple of hundred copies of the SteelBook Edition left. The even more limited in numbers PS4 Editions are still available, both in the form of a Collectors Edition - Limited to 1500 copies worldwide - and a PS4 SteelBook Edition. All editions feature a sequential numbering, an individual number for each and every copy of the game, which shows off its exclusive nature in a really cool way! These editions will also feature a different (and reversible!) cover art than the regular retail version of the game. Besides the console editions, we also have some good news for our PC fans. We are very happy that CrossCode will be given a physical PC release! As this version wont be widely available at retail, the way to go if youd like to own a PC copy of CrossCode will be to get it through the SLG Partner Store! The CrossCode PC Editions will be available as a SteelBook Edition, as well as a Collectors Edition.
Next steps for the Post Game DLC
Work on the DLC continues! Here are few new impressions:
More progress on the new area! Things are still work in progress here!
A new location in the sky?
Look who is now in the game! Now a little word about the release windows In our last update we already mentioned that the release of the DLC will happen "hopefully this year". Since the console release was more distracting for us than expected and also because we keep underestimating the amount of work ahead, we'd like to move the release window a little bit further. The new plan is to release the post-game DLC in early 2021. We know this is a bummer for many - initially we aimed to release the DLC in time for the second anniversary of the PC release. However, ultimately we want to make sure that the quality of the DLC will match the rest of the game and for that we'll need a bit more time to bring the whole story to a (hopefully) satisfying conclusion. Just remember: more time usually means a better result. That's why we had to postpone CrossCode 6 times before this already. We are sorry for the delay but also hope you understand. It will be worth the wait! Until next time!
Hi everyball! This Saturday we're going to stream the development of CrossCode here on Steam. For the first time. Die-Hard fans already know that we usually do this on Twitch. But now where the Gamescom is digitally live and we're part of the Indie Arena Booth, we've decided to give it a try on Steam as well. Join us and watch how we make progress on the upcoming DLC!
Hello everyball!
It finally happened: As of yesterday, CrossCode has been finally released for consoles worldwide! And with today's release of version 1.3.0 we quickly follow up with a promise we made: an exclusive quest for the PC version!
The new quest is accessible in the end game (after you acquired the Meteor Shade) and can be found in Ba'kii Kum.
Version 1.3.0 additionally adds new combat attacks for certain (later) party members that were lacking in that regard.
There are also tons of smaller changes under the hood for the upcoming DLC.
Speaking of which...
DLC when?
Most of our time these days is spend working on content for the upcoming Post-Game DLC - and we're making good progress! Here's a small gif of an upcoming new area:
Things are still WIP! Our Private Beta Testers are also hard at work testing the new dungeon! Here's a little preview:
There's also a new type of weapon called Ascended Gear. It will automatically scale with your level! yay!
All that being said - we're still not done yet. A release for PC will hopefully still happen later this year. As for console version: the release of the DLC will take a bit longer, since all new content needs to be properly ported first. And that's all! Until next time!
Hello everyball!
With the CrossCode console release about to happen we're now writing about something entirely different: CrossCode Modding projects
CrossCode Modding
To be frank: we never really designed CrossCode with modding in mind. But yet, it still happened - maybe because the JavaScript code base makes the game fairly accessible. For several years now we've been watching a couple of smaller and larger modding projects appear over time. However, now is the first time the modding community actively organizes a whole event, so we thought we could help with a little shoutout. If you are interested in the modding community in general, feel free to visit their Discord Server However, before you continue installing and playing mods:
Important Disclaimer for CrossCode Mods
Modding projects are unofficial content and as such, we won't be able to help you with any issue that may arise from installing and playing mods for CrossCode. Be aware that installing mods can potentially break your save data, so it's recommended to back up your saves before installing any modding project. One option to back up your saves:
- Start CrossCode and load the save you want to backup
- Pressing F10
- Save the text of the upper field into a text file
- Start CrossCode and press F10
- Insert the text of your save backup in the lower text field and press Submit
- Your imported save will be the last save in your list of saves
Autumn's Genesis - Master Trials Score Attack!
Since last week you can participate in a very special challenge, taking on very strong variants of the game's boss fights and try to get the best score! Here's how that will look like:
If this sounds exciting to you, you will find all the necessary information here: Autumns Genesis Installation Guide and Rules for Participation The event will last until September 1st, so there's still plenty of time. And that's pretty much it! Depending on how things go, we might be giving more shoutouts to other CrossCode modding projects in the future. Until then, feel free to join the modding community and maybe start modding yourself! Until next time!
Well. Yes. CrossCode will release in one month from now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and.... yes, stop asking "when?", Nintendo Switch! [previewyoutube=bzZ3gB9RcIc;full][/previewyoutube] And yes. It will get physical. And yes, each version will get an exclusive quest line. This means that also the PC will get an exclusive quest line. So prepare for some fresh content before the actual DLC drops.
Hello everyball!
... Deck13 writing here today. We're the publisher of CrossCode. We're also handling the port to other platforms at the very moment. And all of us, here at Deck13, over at RFG, over at Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft hear your questions. Which is basically always the same: When? When will CrossCode finally be coming to consoles?
WHEN???
The answer is: Sooner than you might think. We are ready to announce an official date very soon. Maybe next week? We wanted to let you know that we will be revealing the official release date for the console version of CrossCode next Tuesday. And we always said that once we announce the releasedate, the wait will even sooner be over. This means: You won't have to wait much longer. But we can't go into details just yet.
What took you so long?
CrossCode was build in a custom engine written in HTML5 and JavaScript. Something which the consoles do not really support well. We had to create a compiler for it, translating everything into C++ before the game loads up. Because live compiling, which JavaScript does, is not allowed on most platforms as it opens up ways to access the deeper cores of the hardware. We even had to restart the whole process once as the first way we were going for did not work out as intended. We had to throw away roughly one year of work and start all over again.
But...
No fear. We did our homework. CrossCode has passed all console certifications. And we're still submitting patches to the version which passed certifications. These will be available from Day 1 and your version will automatically be updated to the latest build.
Anything else
Oh yeah, while we're at it: We have decided to bundle CrossCode on Steam with a fresh product we just launched, called Resolutiion. We think it might be something you could enjoy as you're all fans of gorgeous pixelart. [previewyoutube=7J9JR6iFzho;full][/previewyoutube]
Hello everyball!
... It really has been a while hasn't it? Most people reading this will likely be stuck in quarantine or practicing social distancing. Here in Germany, most companies are switching to home office - which is something Radical Fish Games has been doing for many years already. So at least in terms of CrossCode development: things will go on.
Today we wanted to give you a small update about what we've been up to. But before that we have an exciting announcement: One Step from Eden just released and Lea is in it!
Lea skin in One Step From Eden
One Step from Eden is a deckbuilding roguelike with a battle system reminiscent of Megaman Battle Network. And you can play as Lea as well! Our blue-haired Spheromancer is an unlockable skin for Saffron, one of the main characters of the game! You can see the skin in action in this tweet: https://twitter.com/OneStepFromEden/status/1242856985197977605 One Step from Eden released today for PC and Nintendo Switch! More information here: www.onestepfromeden.com/
Recent development on CrossCode
We've been working on a lot of different things and almost all of them related to the upcoming Post-game DLC. We're making good progress, but there's also still much to do. Instead of getting into details, we will just leave you with a number of screenshots and GIFs so you get an idea about what's coming:
Keep in mind that pretty much all of this is still work-in-progress! As for the console versions: things are moving forwards, submissions have succeeded. We're getting close, but we still don't have a release date yet. Sorry! And that's all! Stay safe, everyone. And remember to wash your hands!
Hello everyball,
as we announced a few weeks back, we finally follow up with the small promised technical update of CrossCode! With version 1.2.0-5 we update NW.js to a newer version and also add basic support for the SteelSeries Engine.
NW.js Version update
With this version, CrossCode now runs with NW.js version 0.35.5, which hopefully fixes some of the memory leak issue several players have reported on Windows, as well as crashing issues on Linux and OSX. If you have issues with the new version (or past issues remain), please let us know via E-Mail (contact@radicalfishgames.com) or in the Steam Forum. For users of the nwjs_old branch, things stay the same.
SteelSeries Engine 3 Support
SteelSeries Engine 3 is a tool that let's you adjust all the funky periphery that SteelSeries has to offer. It also doubles as a kind of local server, allowing applications to register themselves as "Games" and illuminate your hardware. SteelSeries asked us to integrate this into CrossCode and being avid gamers ourselves the only logical answer was to say "yes". All jokes aside, what this means is that we can highlight certain keys on your keyboard based on in-game context. We are currently supporting all Steel Series Keyboards that have Per-Key-Lightning. List of supported keyboards. Download for SteelSeries Engine 3 / Gamesense
Once Game Sense is activated in the options menu of CrossCode your function keys will turn into a Health-Bar, while the number keys will light-up to the corresponding element. Future updates might extend this feature as players request cool stuff or we come up with more ideas. Big thanks to SteelSeries who provided us with the hardware and tech support to implement this. And that's all for this update! Sorry for the lack of new content, but as we mentioned before: new things are being worked on! Expect more in 2020! Until next time!
Hello everyball!
Quite some time has passed since the last Update so we wanted to let you know what we've been working on recently and what Updates you can expect next!
Recent Progress and upcoming Updates
With the Newgame+ Feature completed we're now focusing our work on the Post Game DLC that will add a little Epilogue to the current end of CrossCode. Among other things it will feature things like an extended Rhombus Square, more Quests, and a proper Final Dungeon. And also a few answers to some of the questions you might still have at the end of CrossCode's story. Here's a screenshot without context to give you a little something:
We don't have a release date for the Post Game DLC yet, as it will still take some time to develop. We're currently targeting Q2, 2020. As we're currently focused on the DLC, we unfortunately don't have a lot of content ready for regular game update. However, you can expect an upcoming technical update in the next 1-2 weeks, as we plan to update NW.js, the software/engine we use to run CrossCode. We hope that this will fix some of the Crash issues people experience on Linux as well as Memory Leaks on Windows. There will also be a little feature added to that, but more on that later! Now, a lot of you were most likely waiting for something else from CrossCode this years... those console versions! As our Publisher Deck13 Spotlight is working on the port, here's a short message from them about how things are going:
CrossCode for Consoles when?
Greetings everyball, Michael here from Deck13. Publisher of CrossCode and the folks who are porting the game to consoles. And yes, weve been reading your tweets. Your posts on reddit. Your messages on Facebook. The outcalls on Discord. And were pretty sure there have been some Tik Tok videos, too. And as promised via Twitter, well talk about the state of the console versions a bit. Also Switch, yes. First of all: Were still working on it and were making really good progress. That being said, we hoped for a 2019 release earlier this year. And as you can see this did not work out as intended. We underestimated the amount of work a bit. Or, in other words, it became... complicated. Especially the performance became a major challenge. Lea would say: Why? Thats why: CrossCode is written in HTML5. And that means that there is tons of JavaScript. And live compiling it in a Chromium Browser is causing security issues on consoles and is forbidden on most platforms as hackers could attack the hardware through that. So we had to find a solution. Which is basically an interpreter which translates the code but locks it up in a cage. That also means: We had a performance bottleneck. As the code was read by the interpreter and then translated into something the console would understand and then read by the console. It is like watching a movie in a movie in a livestream. Yet: We have it under control now. Were still ironing out the last issues, fixing some broken bosses and quests (which also have to be interpreted which means the interpreter must be able to read them etc.). But were getting there. More details can be found in this video, where Robert, who is working on the interpreter, is sharing some details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfBzlzvt8RU Sadly, Lea isnt able to say the word where yet. But the question would be: Where are we at right now? We are currently focusing on testing the Xbox One version of CrossCode. If everything works out as intended, this should be the last major playthrough. Were hunting the last performance killers, the last broken quests, the last weird behaving enemies. We are close to the first submission. We are already in the optional submissions. Yes, it runs (most times, but were working on that) at 60 FPS by now. And yes, it plays as fluid as on PC. How? How can we not mention Switch. Well, were doing it now: Were focusing on the Xbox right now for no specific reason but just to focus on one platform. Technically, with the way the interpreter is working, the step to other platforms is rather easy from there. Okay, for the Switch we need to do some further optimization, but thats, compared to the rest, just some minor stuff. After that well just need to pass the certifications.
When will CrossCode release on consoles? Well announce that once we have a fixed date set. Expect an announcement on a rather short notice here as we are, obviously, also in discussions with the platform holders about that. To shorten the wait, weve prepared a small trailer for now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FF1y3ff2AVw Thanks. Bye, Michael, Bye. ----- And that's all from our side as well! Greetings everyball,
the time for version 1.2 has finally arrived! And with it come new arena content and, of course, the New Game Plus!
New Game Plus is out!
The long promised New Game Plus is finally available! And it packs a ton of options that can modify your playthrough for additional challenge, experiments or pure silly fun. As long as you have earned enough Trophy Points to unlock them! For additional challenge you can, for example, increase the damage you receive and the cooldown of your consumables, give enemies (including bosses!) more challenging attack patterns or reduce the effect of the popular HP Regeneration. For perfectionist gamers there is even a mode that has poor Lea die after just one hit...
Dashing experts and fans of fancy witches can also activate Witch Time, which (heh...) will slow down time whenever you execute a Perfect Dodge!
And if you just want a fun time as an all-powerful avatar of destruction you can activate Sergey Haxand deal ridiculous damage with every attack. Of course it'll also be possible to transfer your progress from the old game into the new one, like items, levels, botanics and more. These are not even all of the modifications you can use. You better take your time to check it out yourself to craft your unique kind of CrossCode experience! Lastly, some of those options, like Sergey Haxor keeping your old level, will also trigger a few special changes to the game's dialogue. Certain suspicions may seem very justified all of the sudden...
New Arena Content
As for the game itself, three more cups are now available in the Arena of Rhombus Square: Faction Rookie Cup, Faction Advanced Cup andFaction Team Cup. As the names imply, those cups center around revisiting battles from the quests that you have solved for the Factions of Shadoon. How well can you handle them at a high level, with top scores on the line? Of course to access the cups you will first need to solve all the quests related to the fights. With 3 more cups and their precious Arena Coins being available, the Arena Shop has extended its offers as well. You can now also find 4 pieces of unique equipment and also 3 precious pets. Ever wanted to have Death itself under your command?
Well, it won't really help you here but it makes for a cute companion, doesn't it? And that's it for this update! Have fun with the new content and look forward to more in the future! Until next time!
Hello everyball,
more time has passed but we're finally getting closer to the next release! Also, we'll be at Gamescom! And Plush Leas!
Version 1.2 to be released in September
That's right, only one month to go. Pretty much exactly one to be precise, because the release is going to be on September 13th! That's a Friday... Friday the 13th. D: Version 1.2 comes with New Game+ and as we mentioned last time it is technically feature-complete. However, we wanted to add a little extra for some of the options. Namely: New Dialogs.
Yeah... turns out doing insane damage transforms Lea into... something else. Depending on what options you choose, some other story related dialogs might also change.
This hopefully makes a second run even more enticing for those who are still on the fence. But wait, there's more! We also managed to sneak in 3 new cups along with some new pets to buy! The cups are themed around the various quest-related fights and bosses you've encountered in the game. To unlock these cups you first need to finish all faction quests. After doing so, the cups will automatically be available to you via the reception lady.
One of the more... exotic pets you can get with the version 1.2.
CrossCode at Gamescom!
CrossCode will once again join the Indie Arena Booth at Gamescom! Where: Cologne Trade Fair (Hall 10.2), Germany When: August 20-24 (August 20 for business visitors only) The booth will be managed by our Publisher Deck13, however, part of Radical Fish Games will be visiting Gamescom as well from August 20-22 (Tuesday to Thursday). If you want to meet us, make sure to follow our Twitter where we'll let you know when we'll be at the booth! You'll also find something special at the CrossCode booth:
That's right! Plush Leas are now a thing and you can win one of them at the CrossCode booth! And if you won't be able to be at Gamescom, you can get one over the internet as well! Checkout this Tweet by Deck13 with an opportunity to win one of 5 Plush Leas! And that's all for now! See you at Gamescom and otherwise again in September! Until then!
It's been almost 2 months since our 1.1 Release, so we thought it's due time for another update. Let's jump right into it!
Version 1.2
Version 1.2 will include a feature that was a stretch goal in our IndieGogo campaign back in 2015: New Game Plus. As such we didn't just wanted to let you replay the game and keep all your stuff. We wanted to add more options for players to customize their playthrough with different options. And we actually laid down the groundwork for this pretty early on. Remember that trophies had a value attached to them? Yes, they did! And they weren't for show.
Once you have a save file with a clear mark (this little star under the level display) selecting New Game from the title menu will now prompt this little selection. Selecting the right hand option lets you use your combined trophy points to customize your game! How? Well there are a lot of options...
These here are just some of the options you have, but as you can see we do feature the usual culprits like carrying over items or increasing EXP/Money. However more unique modifiers are also on the table which can alter the gameplay quite drastically. Combining different combat modifiers and enemy related options can make the game very challenging or make you insanely overpowered. The choice here is yours! Here's a little example of what happens when combining Dash Master and Witch Time: https://giant.gfycat.com/BlankSkeletalAlligatorgar.webm (sorry for the bare link, the clip got a bit too long :P)
Selecting any option from the Carry-Over group will let you select a clear file that will be used to import items, levels and so on. And yes this means, that by importing saves you can quickly jump into new game plus too! Just in case someone needs it!
Release Date
Content wise most of the features we wanted to implemented are already implemented (in fact only 3 of 42 are currently still WIP). We want to push the update to our internal beta testers very soon and make sure everything is sound. Since we are also including new dialogs (and maybe even quests) in the update it will takes a tiny bit more time to really test all of it. Because of this we can't give you an exact date on the 1.2 release. But we do our best to get it done as soon as possible, pinky promise!
Other Stuff
The last couple of weeks our team was busy visiting some events and also having a big trip to Japan so we took that time to unwind a bit and relaxed. But that doesnt mean we didnt work on other CrossCode related stuff! It's just content we don't want to share just yet to not spoil the surprise. Alright, that's it for this update! Until next time!
Hello everyball!
The new update is finally ready and with it you can now enter the arena in Rhombus Square and take on several combat challenges! Also, more quests!
Oh and in case you're wondering about the version number: we decided to call this one version 1.1 instead of 1.0.4, because the arena is a pretty major feature!
Rhombus Square Arena
The arena in Rhombus Square is finally open! In it you can take on several Cups each featuring a list of combat challenges!
- The Rookie Cup with regular enemies you'll meet in the field all over CrossWorlds
- The Seeker Cup with dungeon enemies as well as several smaller boss fights
- The Dungeon Boss Cup with all the boss enemies of the temples!
Each cup features a list of rounds that can be fought individually as well as a rush mode where you can take on all the round in one go.
Your performance in each round and rush mode will be evaluated with a score and rewarded with medals. For each medal you will then collect Arena Coins that you can exchange for rewards such as new equipment, but also decorative add-ons like...
Fancy auras!
And... PETS! Yes. CrossCode now has pets. They will follow you around. You can even pet them. But that's it.
New S-Rank Mode + Quests
For this update we enhanced the Combat Rank system, adding a couple more effects when changing rank as well as a special S-Rank mode + combat theme! Also, enemies will now respawn faster during S-Rank making it easier to keep up a long combat streak. Note: If you don't like the new effects and music and would like to have things as they used to be, you can disable everything in the options menu under interfaces! As for quests, you will find more in this update as well! One is in the final Arid Breeze Quest in Ba'kii Kum, the other one you will find in Sapphire Ridge - check the bulletin board! Additionally, there is a new challenge mode for the Turret Defense mini game, complete with a few new rewards to collect! And finally, you'll find a couple more NPCs hidden throughout CrossWorlds! Oh, and this update also comes with a couple new music tracks! Here a little preview: https://twitter.com/interovgm/status/1128671769857024000 That's it! Have fun with the new version! ... let's hope there are not too many bugs this time.
Hello everyball!
It has been some time since the last proper post, so let's catch up on what happened recently and talk about the upcoming 1.0.4 update!
Version 1.0.4 + Recent progress
The next major CrossCode update to version 1.0.4 is getting close! Most content has been finished, however, a lot of texts still needs to be translated which is why we might not be able to make the release in April. However, it will definitely still happen in the first half of May. Sorry for the delay! And when it releases, here is what you can expect:
- The Arena in Rhombus Square has finally opened and comes with 3 different cups: The Rookie Solo & Team Cup and the Dungeon Boss Cup!
- New equipment and decorative add-on rewards you can get through the arena!
- 2 new quests complete with new boss fights
- A new repeatable Turret Defense challenge mode
- Several small NPCs hidden throughout CrossWorlds here and there
The lively arena lobby!
The arena cup menu with a list of challenges!
Your battle will be rated depending on your performance with 4 types of medals!
Medals will be rewarded with Arena coins that you can exchange for new equipment and new decorative Add-Ons, such as this Menacing aura!
And finally: more quests! Some of them will take you to very peculiar places!
Next steps
The next major feature we'll focus on, other than of course more quests, is now the New Game+ mode! We haven't really spoken much about this New Game+ and a lot of things are still rather open. However, something you can expect is a very flexible feature that allows you to configure your next playthrough in different ways. You can choose to keep your level, equipment and brush through the game with ease, or go for a challenge and fight harder versions of the enemies and bosses with or without your end game stats & equipment. That's the idea at least! More details will follow. The Post Game DLC is still on our list but it's very early in development. That's also why we still can't promise any release date just yet. It will happen, but it's also important to us that we don't rush it so you don't get a half-baked extension.
CrossCode won an Award!
Now here is something we really should have written quite some time ago, but we actually WON THAT SXSW AWARD!
Cross-Code won the Most-Fulfilling Community-Funded Game Award! This was only possible thanks to the help of all of you voting for the game! Thank you so much! Also: That photo might suggest otherwise, but that Award was not affiliated with Microsoft or Xbox. But while we're at it we might as well mention that CrossCode for Xbox One has been announced as well for 2019!
Shout out for an upcoming Action-RPG
Kingdom of Night is an 80s Action RPG which is sorta like Diablo meets Earthbound! Check out there trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSmGrMzjiFQ Their Kickstarter can be found here! And that's it! Until next time!
CrossCode Version 1.0.3-3 has just been released and finally features SPEED LINES!
We recently made the shocking discovery that over all those years, CrossCode's gameplay has been TOO SLOW.
Pictured: Regular CrossCode gameplay that is slow and has pacing issues.
In order to fix this issue, we added SPEED LINES!
Pictured: Improved CrossCode gameplay with speed lines for a faster and superior experience.
We also made a few trees more regular.
For now, the new Hotfix release is only available through Steam.
Hello everyball!
This is just a quick post to notify you that CrossCode has been nominated for the Most Fulfilling Community-Funded Game award by SXSW!
If you feel we deserve this award, you can vote for CrossCode here!
Deadline is February 17!
We'll be at GDC 2019
Since we finally managed to release a game, we thought now is a good time to visit one of the big events for game developers. So we'll be at GDC in San Francisco this year! If anybody else is in the area and wants to meet up, let us know (Twitter or E-Mail works best)! And that's it! Until next time!
Hello everyball! It's time for another CrossCode update! Version 1.0.3 adds a couple new quests, more NPC dialogs and a few small details here and there.
New Quests
With this version we fulfill our long-standing promise to finally conclude "A Promise is a Promise" quest line! And here it is, complete with a new boss fight and a fair bit of plot development! Have a look around Rhombus Square and you might spot D'kar in a new building you can enter!
In other news: The Last Minute Heroes guild headquarters is finally open to everyone! And they even have a quest for you! However, you'll actually find that one in Sapphire Ridge towards the end of the game. Check out the bulletin board in the Cave Inn!
More NPC Dialogs + More
All the NPC dialogs of the recent contest have been implemented, so now you can finally find out what they have to say! You might also notice that a new consumable item is dropped by the Moon bugs in Sapphire Ridge - you'll also find it in the Backer Store of Rookie Harbor. And finally, if you'd like to see Lea acting out a very, very dated meme, try the new Caramelldansen bonus code. Have fun!
Next Steps
Now the time as come to tackle the big features! We recently started with the implementation of the Arena in Rhombus Square, which will include a multitude of combat challenges including of course a boss rush mode! We'll post a few more details about it soon. For now, have a WIP screenshot of the Cup selection menu:
Another feature we'll work on next is the New Game+ mode that will allow you to replay the game with certain aspects changed. What aspects exactly? More about this in the next blog post! Both the Arena and New Game+ modes are part of our new milestone for version 1.0.4 that we hope to release in April 2019. Of course, it will also come with more quests, NPCs and other things. Until next time!
Hello everyball!
The results of the NPC contest are finally ready! Each of the 100 submissions (yes, exactly) has been evaluated by 4 team members and here are the results!
Top 20 Submissions
We decided to only show the NPCs without the dialogs to not spoil things too much. All the NPCs shown here will have new dialogs coming with the next version to be release in January! Anyway, here are the winners of the NPC contest! Place 20 by Louis "rioreur" Schuck
Place 19 by Daniel 'Dusk' Haysham
Place 18 by Arthur 'Druideftw' Wiese
Place 17 by Christian Eickenfonder
Place 16 by Gabriel fon Ronsenburg
Place 15 by Fiona "Fixc" Cheng

And that's it! Congratulations to the winners and a big thank you to everyone who participated! There have been a lot more great submission but in the end, we had to make a choice. Until next time!
Happy Holidays, everyball!
We don't really have any special update for the occasion this year, but in case anyone didn't see it yet, there is still a matching seasonal quest hidden in CrossCode!
Enter the Bonus Code Holiday-Man at the title screen and give this particular NPC in Bergen Village a visit!
NPC Contest: We got your entries!
The NPC Contest has ended over a week ago and we got a total of exactly 100 entries! What a neat number! And there are quite a lot of great dialogs among them, too. Now we actually will need a bit more time to determine the winners, since we won't simply draw them randomly, but need to review all the dialogs (by several team members) to find the Top 5 and Top 20 of all submissions. Given that many team member will be busy over the holidays this will likely take a bit longer. We'll make sure to announce the results at the beginning of next year!
The next Update
Yes, we're still working on CrossCode though admittedly work has been going somewhat slower as we got closer to the holidays. However, we plan to pick up the pace again next year and we'll start with another update in mid to end January that will feature a couple new quests including the finale of the A Promise is a Promise quest line! After that, we'll finally focus on the arena and the long promised New Game+ mode. Anyway, that's all! We wish everyone a good time, a nice celebration and all the best for the coming year!
And hopefully with plenty of great presents! See you in 2019!
Hello everyball!
We have another quick update for you, since today we release a little DLC to the public and also we'd like to have a word about a Switch version.
Ninja Skin DLC released
The Ninja DLC is now available on Steam! Use it to give Lea a stealthy ninja outfit. You can see it when moving around, during battle, and even in the menu screen!
I mean, she already runs like a ninja, so it was obvious we had to add this skin eventually. Some background: The Ninja skin was one of the rewards for our Indiegogo backers and has been available for them for a few months already. We decided to release it on Steam a bit later, to keep it exclusive for our backers at least for some time.
About that Switch version
For quite some time now we've received a number of requests from people asking us to port CrossCode to one particular platform. Everyday single day.
Yes, we heard you. You want to play CrossCode on your Switch. We get where you're coming from. Our game has been inspired by so many Nintendo classics, so it would feel right at home on the Switch. And obviously, it would be amazing to play CrossCode on the go. However, the reality is this: porting CrossCode to Switch is really difficult. As some of you might be aware, CrossCode is written in HTML5 which you cannot run natively on the Switch (just like most consoles). This means a LOT of things have to be reprogrammed/rewritten. And this is especially challenging on the Switch which doesn't provide the hardware capabilities of other current-gen consoles. That's why we still can't make any promise! Now... We've given this answer many, many times. But who knows, maybe it's too technical and that's why people just won't stop asking so we'll simplify it a bit: Sorry but CrossCode will be coming to Switch when Hedgehags learn to fly. Anyway, this is now our answer to all those Switch requests for the time being! You can keep asking if you want (and you probably will). The answer will be the same. Anyway, that's all for now! Until next time!
Hello everyball!
The year 2018 is coming to a close, but before it ends we have a little competition for you! Also, we won an award!
NPC Dialog Contest
You may have noticed that CrossCode is filled to the brim with NPCs! You may also have noticed that a lot of them... just stand there and don't even say anything. With this competition we plan to change this! How to participate:
- Find a single NPC or a group of NPCs in the game that are missing dialog
- Write a fitting dialog in English! Make sure to specify if it's a Regular Dialog or Xeno Dialog (more: read below)
- Send the dialog + a screenshot of the NPC(s) to contest@radicalfishgames.com
- Each participant can only submit one dialog!
The 5 best submissions will win a physical CrossCode Soundtrack sponsored by First Press Games! The 20 best submissions will be implemented into the game with an optional credits entry! Dialog Types
There are two ways to write dialogs: Regular Dialog: The player needs to explicitly interact with the NPC to start the conversation. This fits best for single NPCs Xeno Dialogs: Speech bubbles will appear over the NPCs when you move close to them. Those work best for group of NPCs that talk with each other independent of the player. Optionally, you can also switch from a "Xeno Dialog" to a "Regular Dialog". This usually happens, when Lea wants to comment on something the NPCs are talking about. This usually happens during one specific sentence of the Xeno dialog, so make sure to mention which one it is! How Dialogs are evaluated
There are a lot of criteria we will judge dialogs by. Apart from the more abstract "we just like it", here are a few of them you should definitely consider:
- Does the dialog fit into the setting of CrossCode?
- Are known character involved in the conversation (e.g. Lea or Emilie) acting in-character?
- Is it entertaining or otherwise interesting to read?
- Is it original and not redundant with another dialog already in the game?
- Does it have a proper length? NPCs dialogs should not be too long. About 10 sentences at most. Try to keep it short!
- Does it have proper spelling and grammar? (Small mistakes are fine, we make them ourselves all the time as well)
- When it includes references to other games, shows, characters outside of CrossCode, are those references subtle enough so we don't get into trouble?
- Is it safe-for-work? I mean yeah... it's just text. But you never know!
CrossCode Christmas Giveaway
In addition to the NPC Dialog Contest there is also another "CrossCode Giveaway" raffle, held by our very generous community member streetclaw! You can win CrossCode Game + Soundtrack Keys for Steam and even a complete Foil Cards Set! You participate by retweeting this here tweet More Details here: streetclaw.de/cccg18/
We won an award!
And last but not least, we attended this year's German Developer Awards and...
CrossCode won the Best Indie Game award! We feel very honored especially considering that this year's competition was very strong with games such as Far: Lone Sails participating. In addition, we've been nominated in 5 more categories: Best Game Design Best Story Best PC/Console Game Best German Game Best Studio (for Radical Fish Games)
Gamedev Stream tonight
This is just a little reminder that we're still holding regular gamedev streams! In fact, the next one will be today! When: 20:00 CET, 11am PST What: We'll work on a new quest for one of our Indiegogo backers! In fact, we'll start working on a new mini boss fight! Where: twitch.tv/radicalfishgames And that's all! There will be another update post still this year (before Christmas) where we talk about ongoing development again. Until next time!
...time to dig up that old image again! Today we release CrossCode version 1.0.2 adding support for Steam Achievements and Trading Cards + a few smaller content additions.
Steam Achievements
Finally they're here! Steam Achievements have been added and will be automatically synchronized with your trophies once you start the updated game. That means you'll likely get a lot of achievements at once.
Note that only trophies marked with this symbol give you achievements!
Steam Trading Cards
Next we also finally added Steam Trading cards! There are a total of 7 Cards as well as 9 emoticons and 3 backgrounds! Happy collecting!
More changes
Apart from all these Steam related features, we also added the usual bunch of bug fixes and also a few content additions!
- The plaza of the Last Minute Heroes HQ can be entered and it includes the first few statues! The interior is still closed off, but it will open up with the next update.
- There are a few more NPCs in CrossWorlds including a new cameo guest role somewhere in Bergen village.
- The new stat "Time played with Assist Mode" was added to the Statistics menu.
Hello everyball!
CrossCode reached version 1.0 about one month ago. During the last month we've been mostly busy with the aftermath of the release. That means we fixed bugs. A lot of them. Now, 10 Hotfix releases later, we finally have the time to focus on new content and features again. And today we release the first bunch of them with version 1.0.1!
Version 1.0.1: New Features
CrossCode is a game designed with challenge in mind for both combat and puzzles. However, not all players appreciate this higher difficulty and for some the game becomes downright inaccessible because of it.
That's why version 1.0.1 introduces the Assist Mode that allows you to tweak the difficulty of the game in a detailed manner. If combat is too fast and enemies too hard hitting for you, you can downscale attack frequency and received damage respectively. And if the timed puzzled are too annoying for you to solve, you can downscale the speed / increase the duration of puzzle elements to simplify the execution. Apart from this, version 1.0.1 also comes with the following features:
- The "Screen shake" option is now properly applied on all screen shake effects of the game
- A new guest role character showed up in Rhombus Square! There might be more in the future
- The new Ninja Skin has been properly implemented. For now the skin is only available to some of our Indiegogo backers (it was a special Perk), but we plan to also release it as a small DLC for everyone later this year
- And in case you missed it: you can now view your progress for each trophy in the trophy menu
NW.js and Steam Beta Branch changes
We released CrossCode 1.0 using the new NW.js version, but as a lot of players experienced crash issues we quickly downgraded to the old version again, offering the new version through the nwjs_new beta branch. Through a number of Hotfixes we managed to reduce the amount of crashes, which is why we decided to now use the new NW.js version by default as it runs better for most players. Instead, we now offer the nwjs_old BETA branch to switch back to the old version in case the new one still doesn't run well for you.
Next Steps
Next we will finally focus on properly implementing Steam Achievements which will be directly connected to your Trophies. That means if you already collected all your Trophies they will be automatically synchronized with Steam Achievements once you start up the game. That's at least the plan. Another feature we want to look at soon will be Steam Trading Cards. We're still figuring out how to get the right artworks. And beyond that, there is still the list of promised End Game content:
- The final "A Promise is a Promise Quest"
- More Parkour Quests, also featuring new mechanics
- The Arena in Rhombus Square that will come with more combat challenges and a "Boss Rush" mode
- Several new NPCs, Quests and Enemies that we will design together with our Indiegogo backers
- The Last-Minute Hero Guild
- A New Game+ Mode
The Post Game Episode
Those of you that already finished the game might be aware that we hinted to a potential extension of the story. Originally, we planned to end the game at this point. However, since CrossCode has been pretty successful for quite a while already and there is still an abundance of stupid ideas, it'd be honestly weird to just end things like this. That's why we plan to start working on the Post Game Episode after we have finished all the End Game content. We hope to released it as a DLC sometime in 2019! And that's all for now, until next time!
Full game just came out! If you've enjoyed the music of the game, we have great news for you:
CrossCode's soundtrack, which was made by our composer Deniz Akbulut, is available for purchase on many platforms including Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify, Google Play and Steam thanks to Materia Collective. We're also very excited to announce that the soundtrack can be pre-ordered as a Limited Edition CD album now, which will be handled by the fine folks at First Press Games.
It will come with 2 CDs, a high quality clear jewel case, 12-page booklet and it will even include an obi/spine which is typical for a Japanese soundtrack release. The CD album will ship around November 15th. You're able to pre-order the album on Bandcamp (US shipping) and directly from First Press Games (Europe shipping).
Deniz is of course also very thrilled about having his debut soundtrack be released on CD! He is always very thankful to anyone who has supported him and bought the soundtrack.
Hotfix 1.0.0-7
Since the initial full release we went through several hotfix updates and the game finally reached a (somewhat) stable state. Crashes might still happen though. This is mostly when you use the new NW.js version for CrossCode (which is default on most platforms and when using the nwjs_new branch on Steam) together with a high sample rate of over 100kHz in your audio output device settings, since it makes NW.js (the "Web Audio API" in particular) extremely wasteful with memory. We now did two things to hopefully reduce the amount of crashes.
- Create a 64bit application for Windows that has access to more memory. It should automatically update on Steam accordingly if you have a 64bit OS
- Optimize music loading in general, since the crashes usually happen on maps where a lot of music is loaded at once (this also has the positive side-effect that certain maps will load a lot faster)
Game is just out and we already encountered quite a few critical issues. This is why we now release Hotfix version 1.0.0-1 hoping to fix things.
What changed
We downgraded NW.js (the "engine" of CrossCode) again by default. We were forced to do this since too many player experienced game-crashing issues with the new NW.js version. The downside of this is, that the game might run slower for other players. For those players we now added the following option:
Upgrade NW.js by switching to the nwjs_new beta branch
There is a new beta branch available called nwjs_new. By switching to this branch you get CrossCode again with the new NW.js version. You switch to the branch like this:
- Rightclick CrossCode in your library
- Select Properties
- Select the BETAS tab
- In the top select box, choose nwjs_new
- Verify game files or reinstall
This is confusing what does this mean?!
Instead of talking about technical stuff lets go through the most common user experiences here: Case 1: The game was running fine with 1.0.0 but with 1.0.0-1 it's worse => Switch to the nwjs_new branch Case 2: The game was crashing with 1.0.0 and you fixed it by downgrading NW.js => Nothing you need to do. The new version has the downgraded NW.js by default. Case 3: The game was crashing with 1.0.0 and you fixed it without downgrading NW.js => If the new version runs worse for you, you can also switch to nwjs_new
More Infos and Troubleshooting
For more detailed troubleshooting, please visit this thread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/368340/discussions/1/1733213724900972605/ Sorry for all the trouble to those player experience the crash issues! We're hard at work to find a good solution that works for as many players as possible!
More Hotfixes
Version 1.0.0-2:
- You can enter the Grabby Cave again
- Fixes issue where you could't get credits anymore
- Tucos pathfinding issue fixed (hopefully)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkk_omvFSOU It's here. The day has come. After 7 years of development, half of which were in Early Access, CrossCode 1.0 finally releases! Well, what can we say? What a crazy long journey it was. When we started out with CrossCode we've been a small team of inexperienced indie developers. So obviously, we decided to create a fully-featured RPG. Which was stupid ambitious. Yet still... we somehow did it. And that's because of you! All you amazing people that backed us on Indiegogo or bought the Early Access version, supported us through the years with feedback, suggestions, tons... TONS of typo fixes or just by cheering us on over all this time. You made it possible for us to not only develop all the content we originally planned, but also to improve the game even further, suggesting features and improvements we never originally thought of. We want you to know that this means a lot to us. It's really hard to describe how we feel right now. Especially since we had to write this text 3 days in advance. It's probably a mixture of extreme happiness and total exhaustion. We would also like to thank all of our publishers who greatly helped us getting the word out all across the world. And now the game is out. So it's up to you to play and hopefully enjoy this game of ours. Let us know what you think!
Missing Content
Just because CrossCode hit full release, doesn't mean it's complete...! Well, we already warned you that we might not make it in time and that's pretty much what happened. Steam Achievements and Trading Cards are unfortunately not available yet. However, we'll work on this right away and hopefully add those features within the following weeks. Note that the game already keeps tracks of achievements internally, so there is no need to replay the game after Steam Achievements have been added - you will automatically get all the achievements you already collected once you boot the game. Other things, that are still missing and will be added in following updates:
- NPCs, quests, enemies, and food items that we need to implement for our Indiegogo Backers
- A New Game+ Mode
- The Last Minute Hero Guild
- More Quests and proper NPCs for Rhombus Square
- The Arena in Rhombus Square with more combat challenges
- A Ninja Skin for Lea that we promised some of our Indiegogo backers is still in development. It will become available within a few weeks!
Join our Discord
If you feel like sharing your experience of the game with other players, here's just another reminder that you can join our official Discord server: discord.gg/crosscode Again, thanks so much for all your support. Now go play the game already! Meanwhile, we'll try to squeeze in a little break to recover from the crunch. Unless there are too many bugs.
Please... no more bugs... Until next time! Your CrossCode Team
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuN-5yxwogU The new release trailer is out, once again made by MultiMedia AMDG and featuring Animations by VanAnimation (Instagram, Facebook, DeviantArt)! It includes a few clips of new content but we made sure not to spoil the big surprises!
Live Stream on Release Day
We've been doing gamedev streams now for over 3 years resulting in over 100 Stream drawings! That's why we thought it would be appropriate to have a very special live stream on September 20 when we release the game! The big difference: we will meet up in Frankfurt, visit our Publisher Deck13 and stream live from their office! Most RFG developers will be there and guests as well! Get ready for some talking about behind the scenes stuff, reflecting on the overall development and of course... Anime talk. Probably. A little bit. You might also be able to win some stuff! Please gief view! You'll be able to watch the whole thing on our Twitch channel.
A content-free update of the Game!
With this post we also release a small update for the game! And it's entirely content-free! ... That means this update doesn't add any new content. Or fixes. Or any other changes to the game, really. Instead, we finally updated the version of NW.js, the software we use to run CrossCode! From our experience so far, this hopefully means that the game will run faster and more stable for most of you. If instead you have troubles with the new version, please let us know in the forum or via E-Mail ( contact@radicalfishgames.com )!
Downgrading NW.js
If the new version doesn't work for you at all, you have the option to manually downgrade NW.js back to the old version using one of the following instructions: For Windows and Linux
- Open the installation folder of CrossCode (e.g. within Steam Apps)
- Delete all files and folders except for the asset folder
- Download the alternative files ( Windows | Linux 32 | Linux 64 ) and extract them into the installation folder.
- Open the CrossCode.app folder (e.g. within Steam Apps) and backup the assets folder found in Contents/Resources/app.nw/
- Replace the CrossCode.app folder with this one
- Copy the asset folder back into Contents/Resources/app.nw/
To Do List Update
Since we're so close to release, we thought it's okay to skip the To Do List update for August. Those are actually quite a bit of work. In any case, the short version is: most content has been completed. Until very soon!
(Note: this artwork is still work-in-progress)
It's official now!
After almost 7 years of development
and over 3 years of Early Access,
CrossCode will finally hit Version 1.0 on September 20, 2018!!
Which by the way is still totally in Summer!
What to expect
The full release will be huge and by far the biggest update the game has had so far. Here is a list of things you can expect from CrossCode 1.0:
- The complete main story with at least twice the amount of cutscenes
- Awesome and dramatic plot moments™
- A complete new area + dungeon + several extensions in existing areas
- Rhombus Square - the largest city of the game
- New party members!
- Over 9 new enemy types + more variations
- Over 13 new boss fight and other major battles
- About 12 new quests
- Several menu improvements and QoL additions
- A complete German translation
- Countless other small improvements/changes
- Steam Achievements
- Steam Trading Cards
Soundtrack Release
CrossCode 1.0 will also come with over 20 new music tracks! With this, the complete soundtrack will include a total of 64 tracks. And of course you will be able to buy that one, too!
(Album artwork by Nemuri) The Original Soundtrack of CrossCode will be released together with version 1.0! Available on Steam and Bandcamp! If you like the music of CrossCode and would like to support our composer Deniz 'Intero' Akbulut, you can already preorder the soundtrack on Bandcamp today!
Beyond Version 1.0
Development on CrossCode won't stop right at the 1.0 release. There are several feature and content we promised and we plan to keep that promise. Most of the following content will be released as a free update after the 1.0 release:
- A New Game+ mode that allows you to restart the game in a special manner (details still open)
- Several additional NPCs, quests, and enemies that we promised to our Indiegogo backers
- The Last Minute Hero Guild that (ironically) we decided not to implement in the last minute.
- More maps for Rhombus Square and a few more quests that didn't quite make it for version 1.0
- The Arena in Rhombus Square! The least you can expect is a boss rush mode among other things!
Hello everyball!
The sun is currently BURNING over here in Germany... relatively speaking at least. So far we had an unexpectedly hot summer and it doesn't exactly help for the development. Still, we kept working and made some good progress in July. And now it's time for another progress report!
Final To Do List Update
Click here to see the updated To Do List. In July we kept working on end game content, getting closer to the final conclusion of the story. Overall, we're still optimistic that all mandatory content will be completed in September. However, since work went slower than expected due to the heat, we might have to postpone the release of a couple optional quests to a (free) update after the 1.0 release. We decided it's more important to focus on the main story content and polishing rather than cramping in 100% of all quest we originally planned. All of these quest will be relevant for the end game, so you can still enjoy them when you're at the very end of the plot. Anyway, here a few more spoiler-free impressions of recent development:
We made a lot of progress with Rhombus Square, which now features a fancy overview map to travel around quickly!
New parts of the city have been added! While you won't be able to visit every spot of the city in version 1.0, it's still gonna be a huge place!
We also started adding interiors for some of the buildings. Here a fancy equipment store!
And here the item store! That's exactly how supermarkets will look like in the future, right?
Also in work: new quests. This one is pretty basic, really. Nothing unusual going on here. Next image!
A lot of (more important) NPCs now have fully colored portraits, including all of the faction leaders and the beloved Master Sensei!
Finally we also found the time to further improve the Equipment Menu! You now see equipment icons in the middle. There are even fancy animations as you can see here
RELEASE DATE WHEN?
We promised to announce the release date in "early August", but we'd like to have another week before we finally do it! That's mostly because we want to prepare something nice before that. Don't worry, it will still be in September. And that's all for now. Stressful times lay ahead of us, but things are looking good! Until next time!
Hello everyball! We have a small update outside of our usual schedule for you!
About the Release
Things are more or less fixed now. That's why we're happy to announce: CrossCode 1.0 will be released in September 2018!! We'll have a bigger announcement with the exact release date around the beginning of August with all the bling and shing, but September is locked-in for sure!
Gamescom 2018
We will once again attend Gamescom in Cologne, Germany! We won't have a booth, but will be strolling around as visitors on Tuesday (Business day) and Wednesday! If you want to meetup and maybe get a CrossCode sticker, let us know, best via Twitter (DMs are open) or in our Discord Server.
To Hell with Hell Loyalty Discount
Finally: Thanks to your publisher Deck13 we have a little Loyalty Discount for To Hell with Hell! This means that any owner of CrossCode on Steam will receive a 10% discount (in addition to the current 20% discount) for To Hell with Hell! Just in case anyone is interesting in helping out Natasia down there... in hell. It's a classic Bullet Hell rogue-like crawler with juicy pixelart still in Early Access! And that's all for now! More details in August!
Hello everyball!
June has been one month of 100% CrossCode gamedev. And as a result, we made a lot of progress! Getting really close!
Final To Do List Update

Click here to see the updated To Do List. In June we finally managed to decently chip down on those numbers! We made a lot of progress with story and cut scenes, finished another major battle sequence and completed a whole bunch of quests! That's why we are still optimistic for a 1.0 release around end of summer (late August-September)! We still didn't decide on precise release date yet, but that might happen soonish as well. And of course, here a few more spoiler-free screenshot of recent progress:
Here a very ambigious screenshot of a recently finished story event that hopefully doesn't spoil anything... Look! It's a shiny cave!
We further worked on Rhombus Square, roughly completing another part of the city... except for that one large house in the lower left. That still needs some work.
The Botanics Quest has been completed so you now get a lot of fancy rewards for your progress!
Henry's quest chain has been roughly completed as well! More searching of those devices!
Strange new Plants have appeared in CrossWorlds and might hold the key to the Old Man's Secret!
Another small feature: The game will now include "Add-Ons" that allow you to enable/disable things independent of equipment! Equipment like "Holiday Hat" and "Sparkling Boots" that change your appearance/add visual effects have been converted to "Add-Ons" so you can "wear" them at any time, without having to use outdated equipment! And that's pretty much it. Until next time! Hopefully with some great news regarding a 1.0 release.
Hello everyball!
May is already over so it's time to update that To Do list and talk about recent progress! Also a short recap of last month's events and more!
Final To Do List Update

Click here to see the updated To Do List. May was the month we attended both BitSummit and Dokomi - which included a fair bit of preparation and traveling. That is why we expected (and calculated) that less work would get done this month. However, despite all this we actually made some pretty good progress, especially towards the end of the month. With the way things are going, we still hope for a release of version 1.0 around end of Summer. Now as for what exactly happened this month... there are at least a few things we can show without spoiling too much:
Things are happening in Sapphire Ridge and it somehow involves this bamboo fountain.
Additionally, new optional temples are emerging in Gaia's Garden!
Finally, we even managed to squeeze in a little quality of life improvement: availability information in the inventory. Note: the information shown in this screen is just an example and not accurate! No, Hedgehags will not start dropping bare Junk Metal!
Events and Awards in May
As announced in last post, we attended both BitSummit and Dokomi presenting CrossCode!
CrossCode at BitSummit next to all those other great games published by Dangen like Fight Knight and Super Sportmatchen... check them out!
Our large CrossCode booth at Dokomi, this time organized by Indie Arena Booth right next to lots of other indie developers! We had plenty of visitors on both events and some even bringing us fanart and... other fanart... Anyway, that's all for events! From now on we're 100% focused on finishing this game! And what else? Oh yeah! To everyone's surprise, we actually won our very first award!
CrossCode got the RPC Fantasy Award for Most Promising Product at the Role-Play-Convention in Cologne, Germany! Yay! And that's all! Until the next update!
Hello everyball!
Here we are again, back with fully written text!
Since April is now pretty much over, it's time for another update of our Final To Do list. We also have a few new things to show + a couple events in May we will attend!
Final To Do List Update

Click here to see the updated To Do List. It may not look like it, but overall April was fairly productive. That's because we completed several tasks that are not directly shown by the numbers including:
- Implementing the last puzzle mechanics of version 1.0
- Completing tileset graphics for Rhombus Square
- Planning the layout of remaining content in more detail
- Writing dialogues of remaining scenes
Finally you can enter the city of Rhombus Square!
A few impressions of the still empty shopping district.
There will actually be traffic on those streets! And yes there will be more car variations.
Meanwhile in Sapphire Ridge: New combat challenges emerge!
And even though we didn't manage to finish any quest this month, we're still working on it and more quests for Gaia's Garden will follow soon! As for a release date: Sorry, but we're still not ready. Our goal is to first roughly finish all major gameplay and story content before we fix a release date, so we can be certain that we don't have to delay again and can focus on testing and polishing the content. However, we're getting very close to that point and still aim for a release in Summer 2018!
Upcoming events
Since the release of CrossCode 1.0 is drawing near, we decided it would be worthwhile to present the game once again on certain events. And we ended up deciding to visit the same two events in May that we already visited last year:
We’ll be attending BitSummit in May 12-13 in Kyoto, Japan! And just on the next weekend...
We’ll also attend Dokomi in May 19-20 in Düsseldorf, Germany! If you happen to be around, feel free to drop by and say hello! We may have a bit of CrossCode merch with us in fact!
A little hotfix
And just as a side note: With this update we also release another small Hotfix (Version 0.9.8-7), which doesn't add any new content, but actually just fixes one issue that we didn't want to keep in the game until 1.0 which is that the Goat Father has been kicking instakill nukes. And that's all! Until the next update! Note: Translations of this post to Japanese/Chinese/Korean will follow soon
Hi! ... Lea!
The Final To Do List!

Wait! Wait! Wait! Wait! ... Lea wait!
... Wait...
... Why?

Recent Development
Hi! Hi! Hi!
How? Lea!
Lea! Lea!
...
...?
Bye!
Hello everyball!
We're slightly late but here it is, the first update of the Final To Do List!
We made good progress all things considered! We finished several boss fights, added two new quests, and also completed the whole plot for Gaia's Garden, including its 3 dungeons - almost at least.

Click here to see the updated To Do List.
Overall we're pretty close to the schedule, only falling behind slightly as we planned to get to this point until end of February. Let's hope that we'll be able to catch up in March.
Here a few images of recently completed content:
Reaching the end of Zir'vitar Temple.
A most generic bit of dialog from the end of So'najiz Temple scene.
The "space scene" of So'najiz Temple.
One of the new quests for Basin Keep. If that scene might seem confusing to you, that's partly because some graphics are still placeholders. Partly. It will still be about parrots taking hostages.
Much more stuff has been completed, but we really don't want to show most of it since it would really spoil the surprise!
Suddenly: CrossWeek
We just had another CrossWeek where part of the team meets up in Hannover and works on CrossCode for a whole week full-time. We've just been 4 people this time, but still got a lot of work done! Next to a lot of story development we also started creating graphics for the remaining boss enemies! In fact, we've been so much focused on work that we didn't find a lot of time taking nice pictures but still here are a few:
Working intensely in a very crowded room!
Our task board... with almost everything censored.
Cooking! And again, nothing burned! Our cooking skills actually might have improved over time! Anyway, that's all for now! The next update of the To Do List will happen end of March (or beginning of April)!
Hello everyball!
We collected your votes and here are the results:
English Poll Results
Chinese Poll Results
Japanese Poll Results
Korean Poll Results
As you can see, the clear majority voted to focus on a 1.0 release! And that is what we will do now! In order to accelerate development we will skip version 0.9.9 and head straight for 1.0!
That also means there won't be any version update for a fairly long time. However, we will make sure to update the Final To Do List on a regular basis (at least every month) to keep you updated on how things are moving forward!
Thanks a lot for the participation in the polls and for being such a patient and awesome community in general!
Hello everyball!
Now that we safely entered the year 2018, a lot of you will probably ask the same question: 1.0 Release when? Today we want to talk about recent development and how close we really are to finally leaving Early Access.
Recent development and 1.0 Release Date
After the (sort of expected) drought over the holidays, things have been kicking up again in January and we made a lot of progress, especially with story development! We still don't want to show anything of that because... well... spoilers.
Instead, here is a more abstract list of things we did over the last few month (also in parallel to the recent releases):
- Finished the probably most story-intense part of the game (almost fully playable)
- Fully planned out most remaining story-details
- Created written drafts for almost all major dialogues of the main story
- Mostly finished the Main Story Quests for Gaia's Garden
- Started development of quests for Basin Keep
Click here for the Final To-Do List! With this list we can hopefully show you that things are moving forward and towards a conclusion. We are, once again, very sorry that things are taking longer than expected.
About releasing version 0.9.9
In our previous schedule we planned to release version 0.9.9 before end of 2017, which would include All level 3 combat arts and Rhombus Square. We managed to release all level 3 combat arts with version 0.9.8 still in time, but Rhombus Square isn't quite ready yet. That's why we planned to release version 0.9.9 sometime soon, featuring Rhombus Square and additional Quests, but still no more story. However, now that we focus on developing the remaining story content there is one thing we realize: releasing another version before 1.0 will be difficult. That is mostly because we really want to avoid leaking story content that will be hidden in all kind of assets of the game (we know that some players will read this). That means we have to take extra care to remove that content prior to the release. All of this costs extra time, of course. That's why we're considering skipping the release of version 0.9.9 in order to reach version 1.0 faster. However, the flipside is: there won't be any new update for a rather long time that way. Of course, we'll try our best to keep you updated on how development is progressing (that's why we released the to-do list). Still, we understand that some of you might prefer to have the 0.9.9 release to bridge the rather long wait. That's why we decided to make a simple poll about this: CLICK HERE to vote! If the majority still wants to have version 0.9.9, we will release it (probably around March-April). Otherwise, we'll focus on finishing version 1.0. We'll decide on this by the end of this week! Aaaand... that's all! Sorry for the lack of actual image material this time! We promise there is a lot of stuff happening, we just don't want to ruin the surprise! Until then! And once again, sorry for the delay.
On our long journey towards version 1.0 we've now reached another small milestone: Today we release version 0.9.8! This update will add all level 3 combat arts, a Japanese and Korean translation, a couple of quests and several small quality-of-life improvements! Let's go!
New Localizations
After several month of collaboration with our new partners we're happy to announce that CrossCode now supports two more languages! First: a Japanese localization by Dangen Entertainment!
It's like one of your Japanese JRPGs!
Which means we can't read it! Gotta wait for those fansubs. :/ Second: a Korean localization by Mayflower Entertainment!
Still can't read this!
We really hope the translations are good! Anyway...
You can select the new languages within the options. Remember to restart the game!
All the Combat Arts
It's finally done! This version comes with all level 3 combat arts fully implemented! In order to learn those arts you'll have to collect the Star Shade at the end of the Jungle dungeon. Once learned you'll need to spend 6 SP in order to use them. The good news is: We'll upgrade your MAX SP to 12 (which means 3 SP on battle start) once you collect the Star Shade! So gathering the necessary SP should be somewhat quicker.
Small Usability Improvements
We made several small improvements for menus and interface.
Quest marking has changed. You can now mark multiple quests inside the menu and you can only switch between marked quest on the field.
We properly integrated a Circuit Reset option! You can visit a terminal in Rookie Harbor that allows you to reset individual Circuit trees. However, resetting isn't as cheap anymore: you'll need to use a Circuit Override item that you will get on several occasions during the plot. We might also add a trading option later on.
To reskill yourself even faster you also now have the option to learn several skills in one go!
There are also several small QoL improvements like grayed trading items in the preview if you can't trade them yet, and number of collected chests visible on the world map.
A few more quests
This version comes with a few more quests as well! Two of them are found in Rookie Harbor and another one in Gaia's Garden! There's even a little boss fight included!
More Stuff in the Background
Just like the last release, this one is again rather small. We're still working on more content in the background that will be released with version 1.0! So once again... Sorry for the small update but we hope that the wait will be worth it once version 1.0 will be out! Anyway that's all! We hope you have fun with version 0.9.8 and let's hope there's a limit to the amount of bugs!
Hello everyball! Suddenly it's December so some of you might wonder: what about that Version 0.9.9 Release? Well we got some news for you and also some GIFs and Images of Recent Progress!
Release of the next version
In the original schedule we planned for a release of Version 0.9.9 in December including all Level 3 combat arts as well as Rhombus Square. While we already made some progress with Rhombus Square, it's likely not going to be ready before Christmas. However, we did manage to complete all the combat arts! That's why we decided to split the release in two versions: 0.9.8 and 0.9.9. Rhombus Square will be release with version 0.9.9 in the Beginning of next year (January - February). Version 0.9.8 will be released on December 14 and will include:
- All level 3 combat arts - that means the circuit is 100% completed
- A couple new quests
- Several small quality-of-life improvements
Recent Progress
You can now chain activate multiple nodes in the circuit tree! Simply activate the option in the options menu, select a node and watch as all the skills get activated.
We reworked the quest-favorite system. Instead of marking just one quest as favorite, you can now set as many as you want and only toggle through them on the field! No more lingering unfinished quests you need to go through!
Trades you can't make because you lack the resource or money are now grayed out.
We changed the order of modifiers. From now on they will be grouped more logically so you don't find a damage modifier next to a status condition one and so on.
A small change but probably a welcome one too: When hovering above and area on the world map, it will now show how many chests you can still find in that area. And now, as for level 3 combat arts, there're a lot of them sO GET READY FOR GIFS! LOTS OF GIFS LARGE GIFS. MOBILE USERS, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Let's start with something familiar!
Possible with level 3 arts: your personal meteor storm.
Also: very fierce counter attacks featuring LASERS!
Sky-high streams of fire!
Massive spin attacks!
TANKS!
Gigantic Icicles!
Enormous Lightning Strikes!
Time halting combos!
Lighting-fast tackles!
Even faster melee combos!
Highly-explosive projectiles!
Duplicating dash combos!
Risky HP-absorbing counter blocks!
HP-absorbing... stream-shooting... attacks! And that's all! See you again in December 14 for the next release!
Good news everyone: We finally implemented support for Steam Cloud!
That means that your CrossCode saves can now be backed up in the Cloud and shared for all CrossCode installations. It even should work cross platform. Hopefully.
If you don't want your saves to be synchronized, you can disable Steam Cloud for CrossCode. (Right click the game, select "Properties", then the "UPDATES" tab and uncheck "Enable Steam Cloud synchronization for CrossCode").
Important: Note that we don't support a proper merging of save states. That means if you have two different sets of saves on two machines and want to use Steam Cloud, you will have to replace one set of saves with the others. Steam should give you a warning in that case and an option to select which saves you want to keep.
If there are any issues with save synchronization, please let us now!
And that's all!
It's due time for another update! Today we finally release CrossCode Version 0.9.7 with a bunch of new content and features!
New Area: Sapphire Ridge
With Sapphire Ridge we now added the final outdoor area of CrossCode!
It's a medium sized area, comparable to Autumn's Fall, but stuffed with lots of caves and crazy environment puzzles!
You will also find a total of 4 new enemies, ready to be fought! Including new bugs. Be warned, Emilie.
Sapphire Ridge also includes the Cave Inn - it's not a full fledged town or village, but still a fairly large building.
Inside you'll find a lot of new offers for equipment and more! Of course, Sapphire Ridge still isn't entirely finished. We still plan to tweak things and add more quests and NPCs to the area in future versions. But otherwise it's ready for exploration!
Trophies
With this version we finally release Trophies, which are essentially achievements! You find a list of all the trophies within the Synopsis menu. You get Trophies for reaching certain points in the game, defeating certain enemies, mastering certain feats and more! Currently there are a total of 171 trophies that can be collected... at least partly! Note: Trophies are currently not connected to Steam Achievements, but we plan to do so in the future (at least for some trophies). Once it's done, your trophies will automatically synchronize with Steam achievements. So getting the Trophies now means you'll get the Steam Achievement in the future! Second Note: Some of the Trophies might still be buggy and might not correctly synchronize with old saves. Sometimes, doing certain things in the game might trigger an evaluation so you'll get the trophies at that point. Otherwise, you can report those issues and we'll see how we can fix it.
More Quests
As always, there are more quests! This time we have 3 new quests for you that you can find in Rookie Harbor and Ba'kii Kum. Each of them features unique gameplay mechanics or even boss fights! So make sure to check them out! Here some impressions:
A very unique quest featuring a floating "ball" in Autumn's Fall!
Fighting Turrets. Again. This time on the ocean.
A boss fight featuring the most popular type of enemies: Sharksters.
Upgraded Portraits
With this version we finally got around upgrading a lot of the portraits from older versions, including Captain Jet, that Blue Avatar, and Satoshi:
Additionally, we improved all the dark shaded portraits of generic NPCs, adding more details and variations to more closely match the NPC:
We still plan to add more variations in the future.
More Stuff
This update features a couple more smaller changes:
- The info/nerd hub in Rookie Harbor has been overhauled and features new NPCs to explain all the things to you!
- Lots of sound improvements especially for enemies. Try fighting the Faj'ro Temple boss again!
- Improved German Translation extended - all main story dialogues until Temple Mine have been overhauled!
- You can finally enter the Pub in Rookie Harbor right next to the teleporter at the sea.
- You can now adjust some new graphic settings in the video options section. Those include toggling particle effects, weather and lighting.
- More map pins variants have been added for arrows. Also the padding between pins has been decreased.
- Various map adjustments to Autumn's Rise.
More Stuff... but HIDDEN!
Just in case you wonder why this update is relatively small: we've been working on a lot more content in the background. Content that's relevant to the final plot. Since we don't want to release any more story until version 1.0, the current update turned out rather small. The same will be true for the next update to version 0.9.9. However, in turn you can expect a huge update once we release the complete story. That way, you can enjoy the rest of the story in one go! In other words: Sorry for the small update, but hopefully it will all pay off once we release version 1.0! And that's all for this update! We hope you have fun with CrossCode version 0.9.7! And now let the bug hunt commence! You know... the one in Sapphire Ridge... and the one in the code. x_x
Hello everyball! It's October and that means we're now safely within Autumn. So what about that 0.9.7 release? It's almost ready! Today we announce the release date for the next update and also show recent progress including the output of our recent CrossWeek!
Release Date for version 0.9.7
Let's get right to the point: we plan to release the update next week on October 13, 2017. On a Friday. Such a nice date, right? Anyway, here is what you can expect from CrossCode 0.9.7.
- New Area: Sapphire Ridge with new enemies and lots of crazy jumping puzzles.
- Several new Quests in Ba'kii Kum and Rookie Harbor.
- Updated Portrait Graphics for Captain Jet, Satoshi and lots of other NPCs
CrossWeek + Recent Progress
Since the last post we made a lot of progress with Sapphire Ridge, which is why we can now share a lot of new screenshots:
Sapphire Ridge also comes with several new caves:
And also plenty new enemies such as...
...new mysterious bugs...
...mechanical pandas....
...and too many spiders. In addition we've been working on new quests such as:
...fighting strange sharkster boss enemies and...
...fighting floating turrets in the middle of the ocean (this one is still very much WIP). And finally, as mentioned before, we found the time to polish a lot of old portraits including all those overly simplified NPC portrait
Guards now wear proper helmets!
Random NPCs have... EYES!
Shads are more shiny than ever!
Captain Jet is more fancy looking as well! Also, a lot of the new stuff you see here has been created during our most recent CrossWeek! CrossWeek is where part of the team meets up in Hannover, Germany to work on CrossCode full-time for a whole week. That usually means we get a lot of stuff done and that was definitely the case this time! And if you're curious how CrossWeek looks like here a few photos:
Doing gamedev and cooking at the same time!
Breaking ovens! At least we didn't burn anything this time.
Finishing most of the tasks! That's all for today! We hope you look forward to the next 0.9.7 update. Until then!
Some time has passed so let's do another small Hi-Lights Post! There are some changes we can show off, but also some news about Gamescom! Because yes, we'll be there!
Recent Progress
Lots of stuff happened since the last update! There is just a little problem: we don't want to show much of the recent progress to avoid spoilers! So if it seems like there is little new stuff... that's why. Anyway, here are some of the things we actually can show off:
We work on the new area Sapphire Ridge. While the tileset is pretty much derived from the area of the intro, we added couple more tiles and details.
Sapphire Ridge will feature densly grown bamboo trees, but there will be hidden gaps where you can wander through!
There will also be more plants to destroy! The destruction of nature shall continue!
Another thing we worked on is the new Trophies menu! And yes, eventually some of these trophies will be connected to Steam Achievements! ...And yeah. That's all. Again: Lot's of stuff happening in secret! Really!
Gamescom
Gamescom, that massive trade fair for video games, will be next week in Cologne, Germany! And we'll be there as well! We plan to attend Gamescom on August 22 and 23! We won't have any booth but will be there as visitors. We'll also bring CrossCode stickers! If anybody is there as well and wants to meet up, just let us know via E-Mail, Twitter or Discord. We'll also use Twitter and Discord to potentially organize meetups while we're there. And yeah, that's all pretty much! Until next time!
We spent the last week fixing smaller and more nuanced bugs, but also managed to squeeze in a few new features and additions! All of this is now released with Hotfix Version 0.9.5-5! Also the boss contest just ended and we've already chosen the winner!
Hotfix Release 0.9.5-5
The newest version should fix another batch of smaller issues, including:
- Weird AI problems with Apollo just standing around doing nothing.
- A certain boss was not supposed to be defeatable, but some of you still managed to defeat him, resulting in breaking the game. You monsters.
- A huge amount of spelling issues fixed, as we finally went through months worth of reports by the community! Thanks everyone for the great help!
- There is a new Bulletin Board accessible via the Quest Hub of each town, listing most available quests of the area!
- Item Consumables now show (more or less) individual graphics on consumption!
- Activating circuit skills now shows a fancy effect!
- We added a proper label + image for Chapter 6 which is after Faj'ro Temple.
- The German translation for the whole beginning of the Cargo ship has been improved! We'll keep working on the German translation, trying to catch up with the English text and improving the quality along the way.
- Certain ricochet puzzles have been extended with ball-destroying entities, giving a clear hint on which path the balls are not supposed to fly.
Boss Contest Solution
Yes, the Boss Contest is over! We asked you to win a certain PvP fight in front of Faj'ro Temple and most of you probably already guessed who the opponent was.
Do you accept, blue-haired Spheromancer?!
Yes, it was Apollo waiting for you! We had a total of 61 Submissions for this contest, which once again sets a new record! A lot of you fought Apollo honorably with appropriate level, equipment and just owning the fire element:
- nintenchris5963
- HGScout
- Craftie!
- Viktor Yuschuk
- CDevRom
- FerrignousBlob
- ALevel8542FlyingShoe
- Temproux
- Mythteller
- 天剑笑
- 瑠璃月凪
- Nnubes256
- Cachwir
- NoOne
- nachi7
- Saymon Wedemeyer
- 偏远贫穷的Cocoa
- Zin Ogre
- Streetclaw
You fought honorably, like a true Spheromancer!
However... There have also been... other submissions.
What?
As it turns out, we had quite a number of cheaters among us! Some of you just cheated a little. You merely had the ice element and your stats have been just slightly above the norm at most: We can let that slide, right?
...
But then we have a long...
- andreasxp

- Stryder467
- 稍等等
- MixelzPixels
- Celio Hogane
- Streetclaw
CHEATERS! YOU DIRTY LITTLE CHEATERS! DO YOU HAVE NO HONOR?! HOW CAN YOU EVEN CALL YOURSELF A SPHEROMANCER?!
... Well, anyway! There was no rule against any of that. So all of these submissions are still valid. Sorry, Apollo!
This is madness!
Oh, but we also got a number of submissions that did quite the opposite and went for a true hardcore challenge
- Gellot was overleveled and had all elements, but used downgraded equipment and wasn't hit a single time! Impressive! Though that's sort of thing he does... all the time. Just look at his channel!
- 232 DjordjeA beat Apollo with level 3 (that in itself is already impossible and therefore CHEATING) with extremely low defense yet high attack stats due to good equipment. That means he couldn't survive a single attack combo by his opponent... but still won! Awesome!
- Ether was level 44 but decided to drop all of their equipment... and was still victorious! Amazing!
- Vincent Desjardins was level 30 and also decided to drop all equipment giving him even lower stats. In addition, he only used the Neutral element. After a long and painful battle... he won! What a feat!
- 影子 was level 18 and was just wearing rookie equipment resulting in the lowest stats of all participants! The video showcases another long and painful battle with lots of interesting techniques, like switching elements during combat arts to optimize damage as far as possible. In the end 影子 was victorious. Absolutely incredible!
... Alright. I admit it. Very impressive.
Now, the winner is randomly drawn from all of these submissions! We did so live during yesterday's gamedev stream (just ignore the mistake where we've chosen the wrong person at first...)! And the winner is... 稍等等 Congratulations, you won a guest NPC somewhere in CrossCode! We'll make sure to contact you once we start implementing those NPCs.
Of course, one of the cheaters. There is no justice. I'm outta here.
And that's all for today's post! This was likely the last CrossCode hotfix for 0.9.5... unless even more unexpected issues come up. That means we'll now focus on content for version 0.9.7 and beyond! Until next time!
With all the stuff going on for the 0.9.5 release we forgot about a little thing: we have a new gameplay trailer! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKHAu5u2ho0 This trailer shows off the new battle theme and combat arts and was once again made by MultiMedia AMDG! Big Shoutout to them for another amazing collaboration! And yes... Version 0.9.5 was released and as usual there are bugs. Since yesterday we already released 2 Hotfix versions fixing many of the critical issues. And we've already prepared another Hotfix. Version 0.9.5-3 will fix a couple more issues including the following:
- Crashes when converting old saves to the new story
- Crashes when visiting certain maps in Bergen Trail
- Crashed when opening the synopsis/quest menu
- Crashes when doing certain things during the Master Sensei Quest
- Several Path-Finding hiccups
Yes, yes... It's finally time to continue the story of CrossCode! And boy, did we take our sweet time with it. Though we did also release some cool new stuff in between, so it's all good, right?
Anyway, this update doesn't just continue the story but also adds in new features, balancing and so on. We also got another Contest for you! Let's get right to it!
Finally More Story
This is the big one. The story continues in Ba'kii Kum. C'tron will be properly introduced and you get to spend more time with the First Scholar guild. In case you already continued playing you have the option to get set back to the previous end of the story. We strongly encourage you to do so since the game will most definitely break otherwise! But don't worry you can keep all the loot you obtained. This story will also take you into an area some of you might already know...
Extending Autumn's Fall
Autumn's Fall got a bit bigger! The area felt a bit small at times and since we wanted story to happen in the area we decided to add a few maps all neatly tight together with a quest that is required in order to progress.
Prepare for a real mischief maker! Also for the first time ever, Rookie Harbor North opens up! The map is still Work-in-Progress but we already have a lot of happy people strolling about.
Equipment Level
We often had the feedback that players felt under-powered, even when the enemy level matched the player level. Usually the reason for this was that players used equipment that was outdated relative to the foes they were facing. Equipment plays a huge role in your stats. Much more than skills or level-ups. It was our mistake to not properly communicate the importance of equipment enough. Now with showing a level for each equipment piece we feel it's much easier to notice when it's time to upgrade! So as you can see, each piece of equipment now shows you which level it is best used at. No worries: the level is only a recommendation, not a requirement you can still wear whatever gear you can get your hands on! Additionally we added a small UI in the equipment menu that shows both the player- and average equipment level. Your equipment level should always be above or equal to the player level. Colors indicate how well the levels are aligned. Here's a small clip showing how it looks in action: https://gfycat.com/FinishedFreeAntarcticgiantpetrel And lastly we made small change to how the colors are displayed when checking out an enemy via your Seeker Senses. Instead of just comparing your level against the enemy level it now also includes the average equipment level. This means that when fighting an enemy at the same level you might still get a red color indicating that his enemy is stronger than you are. We hope that these changes will help players in the future. It could be said that this feature was implemented thanks to the community, so thanks everyone for the feedback!
MORE QUESTS
What? You thought we would release a major update without new quests? As always we tried to come up with interesting ideas as well as stories. New Quests can be found in Ba'kii Kum, Basin Keep (Remember the Galaxy Spiral Drill Trader? Visit him again. However his quest is not finished right now.), Bergen and Rookie Harbor. But this time we also removed quests! Namely those tedious and boring fetch-quests you could get at the Rookie Harbor Questhub. Instead the Faction-Indroduction-NPC and a new quest NPC will be in front of the desk. Hopefully this gives a better first impression of quests! Finally, you might notice that we added new UIs for quests too. Like a nice countdown or a dedicated score UI for quests including mini games.
Controls
A common request we had ever since we released the game was the people would like to have a dedicated Melee- and Guard-Button. Well, guess what? We finally implemented it! Mouse & Keyboard users can setup the button inside the bindings section of the options menu. Gamepad users can use X/Square for a melee attack and B/Circle for guarding. We added some additional options to disable the melee/guard actions for the previous input methods in case you want to go all out on the new setting.
New Music
Of course this update also includes a few new themes composed by Intero himself. You listen to them on his Twitter account through these links: Lea's Theme https://twitter.com/interovgm/status/874568358032809984 Battle Theme https://twitter.com/interovgm/status/844540035106050048 Casual Theme https://twitter.com/interovgm/status/836333376693026816 Sorrow Theme https://twitter.com/interovgm/status/880903410853269504
Other Stuff
You can now finally see what each buff item does! Just hover over an item, press H/Start to open the help screen and select the icon in the bottom left corner. As you can see, you will get a nice overview over what each icon means. Plus, the buff icons now look much better. Thanks T-Free!
Also you can now place Pins on your map, choosing from a number of symbols! That should help to keep track on things you find around the area. We also spend a lot of time balancing equipment and enemies again. Spoilers: HP Regen got a nerf! It was just way too powerful! But on the plus side, enemies now have new damage ceilings preventing them from doing too much damage to the player at once! (Looking at you Mr. Snowman.) Overall equipment has also been buffed. Especially the trader gear which sometimes felt weaker compared to the base equipment you could buy.
This new language selection UI has also been added to make it easier to add more languages later on. As you can see you get a nice flag icon now! Doesn't it look slick? More changes can be found in the changelog inside the game as usual.
Contest: Win the PvP Fight!
Another Boss contest? Sure why not! In fact, version 0.9.5 comes with several new boss fights! What we want you to record is the PvP Battle that you will have in front of Faj'ro Temple! Show us how you win the PvP battle in front of Faj'ro Temple! Just create a public video (Youtube, Twitch, doesn’t matter) and send us a link to contest@radicalfishgames.com. You can add your live reaction or leave it out, whatever you prefer! Among all people who send us a video, we’ll draw the following prize: You get your personal NPC guest role somewhere in CrossWorlds - you decide the location! You can be an Avatar, a regular citizen or maybe something else? We’ll work together to figure out the details! Deadline: Saturday, July 8, 23:59 PST Alright, that's it. Quite a lot, we know. It's time for you to play now! And once you're done, tell us what you think about the new stuff. Until next time! ... Let the bug reports commence!
Today's Deal: Save 30% on CrossCode!*
Look for the deals each day on the front page of Steam. Or follow us on twitter or Facebook for instant notifications wherever you are!
*Offer ends Thursday at 10AM Pacific Time
Woah, has it really been 2 years already? Indeed: CrossCode started Early Access back in May 2015. To celebrate the occasion we have a Daily Deal today on Steam!
Now before some of you might be tempted to take the offer we thought it would be fair to talk about the ever-so-important question:
When is CrossCode finally finished?
Back in 2016 we posted our release schedule and at that time, we estimated the final release for June-September 2017. We're now very close at this date and unfortunately see that there is still too much left to do. Yes, most major locations and dungeons have been finished and you can already gather all 4 elements. The only major thing that is now missing is the story. And story is difficult. It's important to us that the plot will leave enough space for character development, will be able to surprise you and most important of all: will have a satisfying conclusion. All of this unfortunately takes time, more than we estimated.
The only way we could release on time would be by cutting content, making the game shorter than intended. This will of course leave the final product lacking and we really want to avoid this.
The good news is: financially we can afford to develop the game until it reaches the intended conclusion. That of course means we have to postpone the release. We fully understand that some of you might be angry about that. But we also believe that, in the end, nobody wins when we release an incomplete game on time. We owe it to you to give this game a satisfying conclusion and we believe this is what most of you want us to do as well.
With all that being said, we now target a release of CrossCode in Early 2018. Yes, this is big step, but this should give us enough time to finish the story and make sure it reaches a satisfying conclusion. It will hopefully be the last time we have to postpone the release to such an extend.
Since it will be another half a year, we plan to add a few more releases in-between with more content to play.
New Release Schedule
CrossCode 0.9.5 Release Date: June 2017 This update will finally extend the story! By quite a bit as well. It will slightly expand locations around Maroon Valley, Rookie Harbor and Autumn's Fall, include several smaller boss battles and plenty of interesting plot developments. It may also be leaving you wanting more story, so be warned. Includes:
- More Story
- More Quests
- New Area: Sapphire Ridge
- More Quests
- First Backer Food / NPCs / Quests / Enemies
- Level 3 Combat Arts
- New City: Rhombus Square
- More Quests
- More Backer Food / NPCs / Quest / Enemies
- Full Story
- Complete Skill Tree
- Indiegogo Backer Food / NPCs / Quest / Enemies (maybe not complete)
- More Quests
- New Game+
- All remaining Indiegogo Backer Content
- A Battle Arena in Rhombus Square with a lot of different challenges
- More Quests
Localization
Two weeks ago, we released the Chinese Localization with help of our partner WhisperGames. We are now also happy to announce that we're working on a Japanese Localization with our new partner Dangen Entertainment to be released sometime during Early Access, possibly with version 0.9.7. Now many of you asked for translation into other languages, be it Russian, Spanish, French etc. We're still in the process of looking for potential partners for some of these languages, but if nothing comes up, we do plan to involve the community to help up translate CrossCode to other languages. However, we plan to start those community translations later once we're closer to the version 1.0. This is mostly because working with more people to translate the game early on may further distract us from developing the game itself and we really don't want to keep postponing the release!
Back from BitSummit
We're back from BitSummit in Kyoto, Japan and man... what an event. We met a lot of other cool developers including Konjak (Iconoclast), Bomb Service (Momodora), Kayin (Brave Earth: Prologue), and Stellar Jockeys (Brigador) among many others!
Our CrossCode booth got a lot of visitors by all kind of folks... and also the press! And now you we nice articles by IGN Japan and IGN USA! There was also a Famitsu articles that disappeared... but maybe it'll show up again! Traveling all the way to Japan was quite exhausting and so was standing at the booth all day long, but overall it was definitely worth it and we'd gladly do it again next year! We also want to say thanks to Dangen Entertainment for organizing a great deal of the whole thing and taking good care of us in general!
See you at Dokomi!
This Saturday and Sunday we'll be at Dokomi in Düsseldorf, Germany presenting CrossCode! You'll find us in Hall 4, Booth L12! If you're there, feel free to drop by, say "Hi!" and get a sticker! And that's all folks. Until then!
We got a small little update for you! CrossCode version 0.9.2 now features a complete Chinese translation done by WhisperGames!
Chinese on the title screen. Such nice characters.
Chinese dialogs. I can't read anything.
Chinese menus. Yupp. This reminds me of old times when I tried to play imported RPGs.
...So yeah! Let's hope that WhisperGames does a good job with the localization! It's not like we can check it! :D
Another change: CrossCode should now start much faster. Previously, all game assets have been shipped in an archive that had to be fully extracted before the game could start. Not only did this take long it also spammed your hard drives with the extracted files over and over again. Yeah, that was a bad idea. Sorry for that! Anyway, this is a thing of the past and from now on CrossCode should start right away without any archive extraction!
Oh... and in case you're wondering about other localizations: we're about to fly to Kyoto, Japan to attend BitSummit so maybe you can guess what other translation we're currently working on...
And that's all! Now let's wrap up this post with Lea wearing a cheongsam!
再见!
We're about to enter May so it's time to talk about recent progress and upcoming releases!
New Game Artwork and Logo
Something we've been working on for quiet some time now is finally done. Introducing: the new game artwork:
We decided to go for a different theme compared to the previous artwork, focusing on different characters. We also put a lot more effort into the whole thing overall! You also might notice that we changed the Logo of the game to something that stands out a little bit more. We plan to adapt the logo inside the game as well.
Development Progress
CrossCode Version 0.9.5 was originally scheduled to be released sometime April to May this year. This version will add a big chunk of story that will cover the whole Maroon Valley, Faj'ro Temple, as well as Autumn's Fall. Now as it turned out... developing this story and everything connected to it took longer than expected. That's why we most likely won't be able to finish version 0.9.5 in time. The way things look right now we might have to postpone the release by another month to June 2017. Of course, the release of version 1.0, originally scheduled for June-September 2017, will likely also be impacted by that. That of course doesn't mean nothing happened. To the contrary! Here some impressions of recent development:
We started adding new effects when changing your element mode.
We finally finished that Maroon Tree Quest...
...including a lot of battles against those sand worms.
Some more stuff happening in Ba'kii Kum! Who might they be talking about?
Our party finally reaching Faj'ro Temple...
...and the new area at the top of Faj'ro Temple!
Also included: more dreams!
Something else we're working on: Quests. More Box pushing!
And here we have the comeback of the infamous target bots! Note that this quest is still heavily WIP. In addition to that Intero has worked on several new music tracks!
- The Casual Theme that we already sneaked into the 0.9 release
- The New Battle Theme playing when fighting enemies outdoors with your party.
- The Briefing Theme playing during exposition scenes - like the Major of Bergen explaining the situation.
- Another Cutscene Theme playing during certain... cutscenes.
Upcoming Events
In 2016 we focused 100% on development and essentially stayed home permanently, working with the exception of a few CrossWeeks maybe. Or at least somewhat like that. Now in 2017 we're getting close to finishing the game so we thought it's about time to start visiting some Event to promote CrossCode! Thus here two upcoming events we'll be attending within the next two month:
We'll be attending bitSummit from May 20-21 in Kyoto, Japan! And two weeks later, not quite as far away:
We'll also attend Dokomi from June 3-4 in Düsseldorf, Germany! If you happen to be around, feel free to drop by and say hello! We might also bring a little bit of CrossCode Merch with us! And that's all for now! And sorry that things take a bit longer once again.
Today we have a very special release for you! CrossCode version 0.9.1 now adds Voice Acting for most of the main characters. That's right: You can now listen to the voice of Lea, Emilie, Sergey, Apollo and many other characters!
CrossCode is all about its characters and their story. Giving those characters a voice has the potential to further elevate the whole experience - if done right! That's why we took extra care to assemble the most qualified team of professional voice actors.
And so we proudly present:
The Voice Actors of CrossCode
Lea voiced by Florian ‘Teflo’ Valentin Valerius
Emilie voiced by Fleur ‘Teflo’ Valentin Valerius
Sergey voiced by F10514N ‘Teflo’ Valentin Valerius
Schneider voiced by FloriNEIN ‘Teflo’ Valentin Valerius
Shizuka voiced by Furorian-chan ‘Teflo’ Valentin Valerius
Satoshi voiced by Furorian-kun ‘Teflo’ Valentin Valerius
Carla voiced by Flow ‘Teflo’ Valentin Valerius
Captain Jet voiced by Floriarrrrrrn ‘Teflo’ Valentin Valerius
Apollo voiced by Flowright ‘Teflo’ Justin Justitian
Shady Adversary voiced by Fl*rian ‘Teflo’ Valentin Valerius
Strange Blue Guy voiced by Florilord ‘Teflo’ Valentin Valerius More Voice Acting for other characters is planned for future releases! Probably. And that's all for version 0.9.1! Have fun! Note: For those players who simply don't appreciate high quality voices acting, we added an option to disable it.
About two weeks ago, we released CrossCode version 0.9 and, once again, hold a small contest for everyone to beat the new boss enemy within a week and send us a video of it. And today we announce the winner! Also, a small note on recent hotfix releases
Boss Contest Result
This time we got a total of 46 submissions which is more than we ever had before! The boss of the Grand Krys'kajo was somewhat special in that it was the first time you had to fight two enemies at the same time. It's also special in that you can decide which of the two bosses to defeat first. While most player went with the obvious approach of getting rid of the whale first, there are some submissions that managed to defeat the ape before the whale! Recent Hotfixes
We already released a couple of hotfixes for version 0.9.0. Today we released another one (version 0.9.0-4) introducing a couple more fixes and improvements including the following:
- All the broken tutorials should work correctly again
- The Bluerays in Grand Krys'kajo should not fall out of bounds anymore... hopefully
- No more crashes when using Shock Combat Arts on certain targets
- Physics won't do strange things anymore around stairs for players with more than 60 fps
- Disabled "GPU Blacklisting" which might improve performance for some players
- Balanced Wowturbines to make the fight more doable
- Several menu fixes and improvements
It's done! Just in time. Today we release CrossCode Version 0.9 as promised in February! This updates comes with another new dungeon, a very big circuit update, a new party member, lots of quests and many, many more features, improvements, and additions!
Grand Krys'kajo - The final temple of the Jungle
With the Grand Krys'kajo we release the final temple of Gaia's Garden. Being the follow up dungeon after the So'najiz and Zir'vitar Temple it will combine puzzle mechanics from both dungeons and finish things off with an epic boss fight! Boss fight... are you thinking contest? That's right! Read more about it further below.
Level 2 Combat Arts
The circuit made a pretty big leap with this update: all passive skill, as well as level 1 and level 2 Combat Arts have been fully implemented. That means the circuit is pretty much complete with the exception of level 3 combat arts. Since so many things changed, you'll get the option to reset your skill tree when you load your old save. Also: we added a new Practice Arena in the Info Building of Rookie Harbor! You can practice all the Combat Arts to your heart's content without being limited by SP costs.
C'Tron - Now ready to join your Party
C'Tron is now finally ready to join party! When you reach the current end of the story, C'Tron will send you a message, allowing you to invite him to your party via the Social Menu. This will also work with old save states. Note: C'Tron is currently only there for you to enjoy the gameplay with a 3rd party member - scenes and plenty of chit-chat will be added later. But that's not all! Party Members are now much more capable in general, as they will start using elements and combat arts during battle - and are less likely to fall into water... a bit. You also now have more options for your party's behavior via the new and shiny strategy menu!
Lots of new Quests
This update has Quests. Many Quests. 8 of them. You'll find them in Bergen Village, Maroon Valley, Ba'kii Kum, and Basin Keep. They come with many new boss fights, mini games, and other cool challenges! So make sure to keep an eye out for those flashing exclamation marks!
New Help Menu
Remember when you used to look at a trading offer, trying to figure out what a certain modifier does? Help Menu to the rescue! With a simple button press you now can see on screen explanations for all kind of menu content, including stats, modifiers, and many other things. The new help menu is available in most menu views, including Trading, Shopping, Equipment, Inventory, and many more.
Other Stuff
This update packs a lot of smaller cool features that are also worth mentioning
- A improve display when Swapping Circuit Branches. You can actually see the skills you will exchange.
- A new SP bar that allows you to quickly see your current SP without moving your eyes away from the player
- Total Damage Number for each enemy to better estimate the amount of damage you deal - pretty much inspired by what PixelFerrets did in Secret of Grindea
- An improved stun system that solves a few frustrating counter-attack moments (looking at you, Apollo) and allows the player to escape a long chain of combos
- Changed order of menu buttons! The Quest Menu is now much easier to reach.
- New Buff stacking behavior: your number of concurrent buff now starts with 1 and can be extended with the appetite skill. Also: you can start a new buff at any time while buffs with overlapping stat improvement will cancel each other out.
- No more unlimited combat art charging. Sorry, but this was never intended to be a feature!
Contest: Beat the Boss of the Grand Krys'kajo!
This is possibly our final boss contest before the full release! Show us how you beat the boss of the Grand Krys'kajo! Deadline: Sunday, March 5, 23:59 PDT Phews! That's all. Have fun with the new release and make sure to beat up that new boss for good! And now comes the time of Bug hunting.
Quick news! We now target to release CrossCode Version 0.9 tomorrow, February 27.
The release will likely be late in the evening (Central European Time) and may swap over to February 28 in the worst case, but things are looking good so far.
The release will come with a new dungeon and boss fight so get ready for another contest!
PS: We'll have our Gamedev Stream again tonight (8pm CET / 11am PDT - in less than two hours): http://twitch.tv/radicalfishgames
The 5th CrossWeek just happened and after 6 days of intensive full-time CrossCode development we're now back with a lot of new stuff to show!
More enemies
We did a lot of planning for upcoming enemies and created plenty of concept art:
Additionally, sprite sheets for several new enemies have been completed and are just waiting to be implemented!
More Quests
Quests have been pretty big this CrossWeek! A total of 4 new quests have been implemented for Bergen and Ba'kii Kum, featuring several new enemies and other challenges! Here some impressions of things you might fight:
Guards. https://gfycat.com/FancySatisfiedBird Penguins.
New Lea Combat Poses
We recently pushed Combat Arts pretty hard and essentially implemented all level 1 and level 2 Combat Arts available. This CrossWeek, we took a bit of time to polish those attacks with a few additional poses for Lea:
NPC Portraits
The current grayish NPC portraits don't quite match the quality of the colored counterpart. We can't really afford to give each and every NPC a full-colored portrait, but we at least decided to polish the grayish NPC portraits to be a better match quality wise:
More Sounds
A lot of sounds have been added to things that have been surprisingly quite up to this point. Now you have groaning Behesloths and meowing Shokats that will make you feel real bad for beating them up. Also, you now find a lot of random melodies in Basin Keep: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0678Tv0O0rc
The Final Boss of the Jungle
Yepp, we've been working on the boss, and nope we won't show anything of it. Let's just say it will be... something else. Seriously, we might have overdone it a bit this time, which is also why this fight is still not done yet!
Behind the scenes
Who cares for the actual game content, right? We know exactly what you want to see: A bunch of dudes doing gamedev and trying to cook.
Fair task distribution
Hard at work! In the kitchen.
GFluegel creating the next quest you'll all love.
A random Intero dropping by!
Preparing Bacon...
...for our Veggie burgers.
Also for our rice balls / Onigiri. Yes.
The team enjoying some burgers, probably with less bacon but still very tasty! And that's all for CrossWeek! It was fun, it was productive and we'll probably do it again, sometime later this year! Now on to wrap things up for the 0.9 release which is still scheduled for later this month. Until then!
Welcome to the year 2017, everyball! Yeah it's about time we do another update post. We'll show some recent progress, got the results of the recent Boss Contest for you and other great news as well!
Recent Progress
The next version 0.9.0 is scheduled for Release in February. Not only will this version include the last dungeon of the Jungle with another epic boss fight, it will also finally include the complete circuit tree for all elements with all skills fully implemented, with the exception of Level 3 combat arts. And yes, that means you'll get all level 1 and level 2 combat arts available! That's a lot of combat options at your disposal! GET READY FOR LOTS OF GIFS
Some of the remaining level 1 combat arts that have still been missing.
Entering Neutral Level 2! This is "Final Showdown" the successor of "First Cut".
More Level 2 Neutral Combat Art Madness!
Entering Cold Level 2! Now Lea can downright freeze enemies.
Alternatively, just freeze'em while pushing them upwards!
Entering Heat Level 2! Some of those attacks might remind you of something~
Entering Shock Level 2! As requested by many, we added the almost mandatory "chain lightning" attack.
Shock also features some other attacks that are just incredibly fast.
In fact, some of these attacks have been so fast hitting, that the mass of damage numbers became sort of a problem. That's why we decided to add damage summaries and limited the number of damage numbers that can appear simultaneously for each enemies. We also worked on party members!
Emilie now can use Combat Arts, too!
And finally: say hello to your new Hexacast companion C'Tron! Apart from combat stuff, we also worked on several new Quests in Basin Keep and Ba'kii Kum - some of which might surprise you with entirely new tasks!
So'najiz Boss Contest Results
With the release of Version 0.8 we once again held a contest for everyone to beat the new boss within a week and record it in a public video. And we got a whole of 36 submissions! The next CrossWeek!
With the next release coming close, we decided to have another CrossWeek! It's that time when many of our team members meet in Hannover for a good week of full-time CrossCode development! We usually get a lot of stuff done during those meetups. We also tend to burn stuff. Let's hope that won't happen this time around. The CrossWeek will start February 1st and last until February 9th! Expect a lot of small updates and images on our Twitter and of course, a big summary at the end! And that's all for today's post. Until next time!
Happy Holidays, everyball!
This is the second time, we reached the end of the year since CrossCode entered Early Access.
And again, we have a small CrossCode Update for you!
Guess who's back?
This guy!
He's there to offer the same quest from last year in case you didn't solve that one yet. ALSO: he might have an additional present for you!
Make sure to meet him in Bergen Village!
We wish everyone a pleasant time over the holidays and all the best for next year!
PS: CrossCode Early Access is currently 15% off on Steam!
...
Snowman Lea!
With the holidays almost at our doors, it's time to get comfy and play some CrossCode. And what's better to go along with this than a new update? Even though this is not a "new number"-Release this update packs a lot of content so let's check them all out, shall we?
Final part of Gaia's Garden unlocked
South-East of Gaia's Garden lies a small Shad settlement which is now accessible for exploring. However, you might find yourself to be an unwanted guest. What could have happened here? Note: This region will get more Story through optional quest in later updates.
So'Najiz Temple aka The Wave Temple
West of the Rite of Passage inside Gaia's Garden you can now enter the So'Najiz Temple which will not only give you access to the Shock Element but also the final key to open all those golden chests! Oh did we mention this is an underwater temple? Really the best place for an avatar to be, don't you think so too?
Shock Element
The final element is finally here. While Wave was an element designed to help you with healing buffs or pushing away foes, this one is all about quick attacks and fast movements.
Basin Keep Extension
Both the west and east maps of Basin Keep are now accessible. While the west area is home to many high-society residents, the east one is a problematic region for the city in many ways. Both of these maps are already quite far ahead and we wanted people to see them but they will get more NPCs and quests too. You might already find some chests you can't access right now. Look out for a special quest in the eastern part in later updates!
Other Stuff
Like always we made a lot of smaller adjustments or additions. Here's a quick list of most new things:
- All chests that required keys now have special graphics making them stick out more. The same is true for chests that contain keys found inside dungeons.
- We reworked positional sounds! No more distant splash sounds. We also added a bunch of environmental sounds like waterfalls for instance.
- Find new Quests in Ba'kii Kum!
- The trade menu now always shows the stats for a piece of equipment on the left side at all times.
- Extended German Translation!
- New Background Music for So'Najiz AND Zir'Vitar Temple!
Contest: Beat the Boss of So'Najiz Temple!
And another contest for you! Show us how you beat the boss of So'Najiz Temple! Just create a public video (Youtube, Twitch, doesn’t matter) and send us a link to contest@radicalfishgames.com. You can add your live reaction or leave it out, whatever you prefer! And just so you know who the boss is... it's in this room:
Among all people who send us the video, we’ll draw the following prize: You get your personal NPC guest role in Basin Keep or the Shad Village in Gaia's Garden! You can be an Avatar, a regular citizen or maybe something else? We’ll work together to figure out the details! Deadline: Sunday, December 18, 23:59 PDT Aaand... that's all! Have fun with the new release! Time to switch to Bug Fighting Mode then. Tell us if you find any!
Hello everyball! So November is about to end and some of you are probably waiting for news about the next update. Well, here they are! And not only that, we also plan to talk about planned future updates and finally answer the big question: When will there be more Story?
Release Schedule
The following is an estimate of the future release schedule. Note that there is of course no guarantee that we release all that on time - game development is hard after all. But we'll try our best to stay close to it. So here goes! CrossCode 0.8.5 Release Date: December 13, 2016 The next update will further extend the jungle! Includes:
- So’najiz Temple - the Wave Dungeon
- Shock Mode
- Final Jungle Area
- Extended Basin Keep
- More Quests
- Grand Krys’kajo - The Final Dungeon of the Jungle
- More Party Members that will also use Elements and Combat Arts
- More Combats Arts (at least all level 1 and 2 arts)
- Most Passive Skills Implemented
- More Quests
- Finally more story
- A new area
- Maybe: Rhombus Square
- More Quests
- Full Story
- Complete Skill Tree
- Indiegogo Backer NPCs, Quests and enemies (maybe not complete)
- More Quests
- New Game+
- All remaining Indiegogo Backer Content
- A Battle Arena in Rhombus Square with a lot of different challenges
- More Quests
I want more story already! Why do you release more story so late? Because cliffhangers! The story of CrossCode may seem fairly relaxed so far, but things won't stay that way. When we continue the story further, there will be plot twists and other surprises. And then you'll have to wait. So instead of letting you wait half a year, we thought we'd try to reduce it to a few month by just releasing the story close to the final version. We just hope to deliver the best experience of the story that way! Also: The additional time really helps us to polish things up to the end to have the best final result without changing too much during development. Didn't you plan to finish the Jungle back in October? Now it's even further postponed to 2017. Yes, things again took a bit longer than expected, partly due to illness of team members. But there is another reason as well: the jungle will be the last big area and following that we will mostly focus on implementing missing features such as skills and maybe more quests. And of course, lots of content for the story we can't release because spoilers. That's why we thought it would be good to kind of spread the content of the jungle over the next few releases instead of releasing everything at once. Also: More Boss Contests! Is the Jungle Dungeon the last dungeon? Will the game just end after this? Yes and no. The dungeons of the Jungle Area are the last "proper" dungeons. However, the game will not simply end after that, more stuff will happen. There will be more puzzles (though not of the density of a proper dungeon), more boss fights and in general a lot of exciting stuff! But we won't spoil things! So wait... Wasn't the release planned for Q2 or even Q1 2017? And now it's September - postponed again? Well, sorta. If things go perfectly, we might be able to hit June for the final release, which is end of Q2, strictly speaking. We might miss that deadline though, mostly because the Jungle area took quite a bit longer than estimated. In the end, we'll try to stay close to our release schedule, but when it comes down to it, what is most important to us is a good end result. If it turns out that we need bit more time to really properly conclude the story, we'll take that time. Will there be More Quests? There will always be More Quests. Anything else we didn't cover with this set of entirely fictional questions? Please ask ahead!
Recent Progress
Okay, so here is what we've been up to recently!
Visit the new area of the jungle...
... enter the Wave Dungeon...
... defeat all the threats...
... to finally collect the last element!
Also in development and hopefully ready next year: the final dungeon of the Jungle!
Steam Awards
Oh boy, it's the Steam Awards, would you look at this! Maybe CrossCode can have one of those? That “I Thought This Game Was Cool Before It Won An Award” Award looks so shiny! You can still vote until November 29! Also, CrossCode is currently on sale!
Gamedev Stream
We'll have another stream tonight!
We will try to implement some of the Shock Combat Arts, answer your questions and probably do a drawing again! You can watch it here: twitch.tv/radicalfishgames Time: 20:00 CET / 11 am PST And that's all, until next time!
The title says it all: Happy Halloween! And what's best to go along with it? A new CrossCode update of course. And this time it's a rather spooky one! Let's get into the new additions right away.
Botanics Menu
Another community requested feature is now available making it possible for you to track what plants drop what item and where you can find them. However it's not that simple. A new NPC emerged in Autumn's Rise which requires your help to analyze the Flora of CrossWorlds. Hit plants and collect drops. Each drop increases your progress for each plant. Can you find them all?
Infested Jungle
The infested jungle region of Gaia's Garden is now unlocked and can be accessed in the north-eastern part of the area. Make sure to be ready as the region is full of narrow passages and dangerous foes. Gaia's Garden and Basin Keep now also have their own music!
A Scary Suprise
In Basin Keep a strange business man seems to be in dire need of your help. Make sure to pay him a visit! Other than that we fixed a lot of smaller issues and balanced skills and items. You can get the full picture by checking out the changelog in-game. Now go download the new update and get ready to be scared! Until next time!
It has been some time, so let's talk about recent progress!
But first: time to conclude the Zir'Vitar Boss Contest!

Recent Hi-Lights
Alright, now about recent changes! We're currently working hard on completing the Jungle! This includes the water-themed So'najiz Temple to the West where you will get the Shock element as well as the Grand Krys’kajo - the final dungeon of the Jungle. Additionally, we create the maps for the missing areas of the Jungle and Basin Keep! We hope to release the completed Jungle with version 0.8.5 around end of November or beginning of December. Anyway, here some pictures and gif of recent progress!
Interiors for Basin Keep!
Time to enter the So'najiz Temple...
...which is underwater...
... and also full of water. And that's all for now! Oh, just on more thing:
Gamedev Stream
Tonight is another gamedev stream! We will work on some maps, answer your questions and probably do a drawing again! You can watch it here: twitch.tv/radicalfishgames Time: 20:00 CEST / 11 am PDT
As always, every major release comes with a number of bugs. Version 0.8.1 - once again - squashes a good amount of those!
Some things that we fixed and improved:
- No more crashes when attacking ectovolts with icicles.
- A few improvements and general balancing of puzzles in Zir'vitar Temple.
- No more pushing down immobile enemies with Guarding Gale!
We did it! After a very long "Saturday" we proudly release:
CrossCode Version 0.8!
We'll keep this short, because really, you probably just want to play the game and we want to get some sleep! But just so you know, we also have a contest for you. More about that at the end!
New Areas and Dungeons
Autumns' Fall, the new area to the northeast of Rookie Harbor, filled with ancient ruins!
Beyond that lies the jungle Gaia's Garden - easily the biggest area of the game, alas not 100% done as of now. Still a lot of land to explore!
In the middle of the jungle you will find Basin Keep - a bustling city that is, as of now, not yet 100% bustling, but we'll get there, promised! Still you can enter it and "enjoy" the rainy atmosphere!
Further beyond, hidden in the deep end of the jungle you will find the great dungeon of the Grand Krys’kajo, consisting of 3 smaller sub dungeons. As of now 1 of these 3 sub dungeons is finished:
The Zir'vitar Temple! Expect a whole bunch of new puzzles and enemies, including a boss fight. Mind that this dungeon is not as long as the Faj'ro Temple and Temple Mine (because it's 1/3 of the whole thing), but still comes with the usual challenges!
New Features
With the new dungeon, you of course get a new element mode. The Wave Element, complete with 5 new combat arts!
Enter the Status Menu! Finally you can read all about your stats and modifiers with all the nitty gritty details!
Other Things
There is more!
- New Quests in Rookie Harbor and Bergen, including another lovely monk quest!
- The first Level 2 combat art! So far there is only one and you find it in the Neutral Tree down the Melee branch. This is still experimental, but please give it a try! It consumes 3 SP - simply charge for a longer time!
- All the enemies now respawn in all the dungeons!
- A long list of smaller fixes and changes! Just take a look at that changelog. It's long. Really long.
Contest: Beat the Boss of Zir'vitar Temple!
And yes, we have another contest for you! And again, it's about that dungeon! Show us how you beat the boss of Zir'vitar Temple! Just create a public video (Youtube, Twitch, doesn’t matter) and send us a link to contest@radicalfishgames.com. You can add your live reaction or leave it out, whatever you prefer! And just so you know who the boss is... it's this guy:
Among all people who send us the video, we’ll draw the following prize: You get your personal NPC guest role in Basin Keep! You can be an Avatar, a regular citizen or maybe something else? We’ll work together to figure out the details! Deadline: Sunday, October 9, 23:59 PDT And that's all! Have fun with 0.8 and let's just hope there won't be too many bugs... but anyway, we'll try to fix them as early as possible! PS: Sorry for a lot of golden chests. Some of those are likely to be replaced with accessible chests in the sub releases of the next few days - we just didn't get around to decide for proper content yet.
Are you ready for CrossCode 0.8?
Because, you know, we are. Almost.
We actually might release one day early.
We hope to wrap up the final tests today/tomorrow and that means we will probably release CrossCode 0.8 just about when Sunday starts (Central European Time).
Also, expect another Dungeon Runner Contest for the new Zir'vitar Temple!
That's all! See you tomorrow!
Hello everyball!
End of September is drawing close and we promised an update to version 0.8. We'll keep that promise... with just a few days delay!
The release of version 0.8 is scheduled for October 3, 2016!
Now, we have been very ambitious with this version. Originally we planned to release the whole jungle (the biggest area yet) together with a city (also pretty big) and the Shockwave dungeon - a huge dungeon consisting of 3 smaller sub dungeons with a total length greatly exceeding that of the previous dungeons. All of that in about 3 months (which was also the time we needed for the heat area released with version 0.6).
... Sadly we didn't quite get this far. However, since it has been over 3 month, we don't want to postpone the release and instead just release what we managed to complete.
So here is what you get with version 0.8:
- The new jungle area Gaia's Garden with about 60% of the maps finished
- The Zir’vitar Temple which is 1 of the 3 planned sub dungeons
- The central part of Basin Keep, the city inside the jungle
- Autumn's Fall - a new area connecting Rookie Harbor with the jungle
- The new Wave Element Mode and maybe more combat arts for the other element modes, too
- More Quests in Bergen Trail and Village (and elsewhere)
- The new Status Menu with more detailed information about your stats and modifiers
Entering the new dungeon!
More insane bounce puzzles!
Wave element mode upgrade!
The new Botanic menu! Note: this feature may not be ready for version 0.8.
Gamedev Stream
Oh yeah, and since it's Sunday, just a quick reminder that we'll have a gamedev stream today:
Stream will be live at: twitch.tv/radicalfishgames Today we'll work on Basin Keep, adding NPCs and more details. If you have any question about the next release or anything else, feel free to drop by and ask in the chat! And that's all - Radical Fish out!
The 4th CrossWeek has just been completed! 6 Radical Fishes met somewhere in Hannover and worked on CrossCode full-time for 8 days straight!
It has been a tremendously productive time - and also a lot of fun!
This was the first CrossWeek where we used a proper Task Board!
That was the task board after the first day!
...and here at the end of the CrossWeek. We managed to finish almost all the tasks we set out to complete and more!
And here is roughly what we did:
- 9 new enemies spritesheets completed including two midboss enemies!
- 7 enemies fully implemented with plenty of fierce attacks and tricky weak spots
- 8 new jungle maps created with rough terrain for crazy jumping puzzles
- 6 1/2 jungle maps filled with lovely details and vines everywhere
- 30+ new sounds added for puzzle elements, background and enemies
- Several small technical features, bugfixes and internal editors
- A lot of progress on a new CrossCode poster!
GHOSTS?!
FISH?!
JUNGLE?!?! We also had a fun time in general!
Doing ridiculous amounts of shopping!
Fun cooking!
Delicious food! Everything was great... until the burning started.
Burning toast.
Burning hamburger buns.
Burning veggie-burger patties.
Burning. Cereals. So before we'd manage to burn down the entire kitchen, we decided to just go out for dinner on a Sunday. Also Sezui, one of our generous backers from the Indiegogo campaign, joined us!
Very delicious burgers! Following this, absolutely nothing else went wrong!
And this concludes our fourth CrossWeek! Now it's time for the final sprint for version 0.8, that we still plan to release around end of September!
Hello everyball!
It's time for more Hi-Lights that we can't call "weekly" with a straight face anymore. Sorry!
But at least we are closing in towards the next big release, weeee~!
And there's also another special announcement further down!
Work towards release 0.8 is going steady.
There's more Jungle. With cute shockingly cute kittens! They just want the cuddles! D:
And surprisingly cooperative blobs. Well, with each other, of course.
Work on the new dungeon also continues. You might be surprised, but it has a shock theme!
Only complete with new puzzle-elements! What mysterious function could this have???
Such idyllic peace. Nothing should go wrong here...
Speaking of things going wrong: The new batch of sidequests for Bergen Village has recently been finished! The most recent one might involve goats and explosions, I'm not entirely sure, the plot is very complicated.
And that's it for the news about the game itself. We did make a lot of progress but sadly we once again forgot to do our regular update. We are very sorry for that, but we are certain that release 0.8 (coming out around the end of September!) will make it up to you!
And now for our special announcement...
CrossWeek approaches!
Tomorrow a special period of time will once again begin. A time where many of those radical fishes from around Germany will swim to the promised city of Hannover, to do game development. This is a sacred time, that of course is called: CrossWeek! From tomorrow the 30th of August till the 10th of September, many of our team will have another CrossWeek-meetup to work full-time on CrossCode to get a lot of things ready for 0.8! And maybe also have some unrelated fun, if time and work ethic allows! I hope you are looking forward to the results! There will definitely be another update in the next time! Until we write again!
It's been way over a year. Today we finally release a new trailer for CrossCode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CuG6jId3MI In there you can spot all kind of content from version 0.7 such as the new portraits, dungeons, and boss fights. A big thank you to Michael from MultiMedia AMDG, who created the trailer for us dealing with all the feedback we threw at him for several weeks. Quite the achievement! We hope you like the result! And if not: please tell us what you think so we can do a better job for the next trailer! On another note: we also finally updated the CrossCode Demo on Steam to include the new portrait and other details from version 0.7.1 (the scope stays the same). We also made sure it now works on Linux and OSX as well! The online demo on our webpage an other sites will be updated soon as well.
Recent Progress
Since just showing a trailer makes for a pretty short post, here a bit of recent progress:
After fully planning out the layout, R.D. took on the task to map the jungle. That's a big task. A very, very big task. Meanwhile Lachsen was busy creating new puzzles elements like:
The Compressed Shock Ball
The Compressed Wave Ball (it's different)
Gravity-defying magnets
Tesla Coils
Strange Teleporters
Strange blocks strangely teleported with strange teleporters. All the while Frece and T-Free are working hard on new deadly enemies like:
Cats
Plants
and Parrots with Gatling Guns. Finally, GFluegel is creating more of these quests that everybody will love unconditionally:
DOESN'T THIS LOOK FUN. That's all there is so far. Until the next devlog!
Okay, we know, we know. We're late again with our "weekly" Hi-Lights. We got got caught up in work and maybe playing Overwatch! So we're not to blame, right?
Anyway, let's get right into this because this Hi-Light has tons of new stuff for the upcoming update, so grab some popcorn and get comfy!
While the graphics for the new jungle area where done by Martina and Felix, Stefan finished up (yes, this area is already done!) a new and small area leading into the jungle called Autumn's Fall. Sounds familiar? As you can see the theme is the same as Autumn's Rise but there are a lot of ruins this time. This area also connects to Autumn's Rise which means some maps have changed, uuuh mysterious.
Of course this also means new (and familiar) enemies! The area will also have new items to find for trading, so make sure to smash all these plants!
Once the graphics were done Felix started working on the jungle city. Look at that shiny ground. As you can see this city will feature high buildings and dark street corners and a lot of laser powered billboards!
Martina and Felix also created tons of assets and props for the jungle. These images are test maps show-casing how the area will look in the future.
As if that wasn't enough he managed to start work on the exteriors for both the shock and wave dungeon respectively. Those are still work in progress, hence the lack of detail as of now.
Also: First steps for the interior of the dungeons!
Stefan recently started working out the layout of the jungle area. This is small excerpt of the layout right now. Rope bridges in jungle? Check!
Since we all know we need at least one new menu per update, Stefan added the Status Menu. The last item missing from the main menu is finally here. Look at your stats while switching through elements to see how they change. This includes a long request feature: A list of all modifiers with description text, wuh! Click on it for better quality.
And that's all for now! There is still much to do, but that also means the next update will be huge!
CrossCode 0.7.1 has just been released, fixing the usual bugs that come with a major release! Now you can finally fight the Blue Hedgehag without having Emilie stuck beyond the barrier.
A full list of bugfixes can be found in the changelog within the game!
As always, thanks to everyone sending in the bug reports!
Here we go! Today we release CrossCode version 0.7.0 that will finally extend the story, include the often requested Trader Book and comes with a couple new quest. And finally: the first wave of new character portraits!
New Portraits and Character Graphics
As previously announced we plan to rework all the portraits of the game for a new polished style. With 0.7 we introduce the first wave of new portraits for the majority of characters including Lea, Shizuka, Sergey, Carla, Emilie and Schneider. Here some examples:
In addition to that, we also improved many other large-scale sprites of Lea including the title screen and menu:
Extended Story
The story was extended quite a bit by about 1 1/2 chapters. The plot now includes the visit of the Temple Mine and end at your arrival at Ba'kii Kum. Along the way there will be several small excursions as you'll meet new players... and a guild! Here a couple of impressions:
Finally Emilie will also be more talkative around Bergen Trail and Village, commenting on enemies and also locations:
Trader Book
Many of you requested a feature to track all the traders in the game. We listened and with 0.7 we finally introduce: The Trader Book.
The Trader Book will list all the traders you meet on your adventure, sorted by location. You'll be able to see all the items they offer as well as all the items you need for the exchange.
More Quests
Version 0.7.0 comes with a couple new quests as well. One of them is connected to the story, others are optional. Make sure to visit all the faction buildings! Also these are not just your generic kill and fetch quests. This screenshot should give you an idea what to expect:
... or maybe you just wonder what the heck is going on there. Anyway, just try out the quest!
Other Stuff
As usual, the release comes with a couple of bug fixes. An important one: we switched to a new version of NW.js for Linux and Mac users. Hopefully this will remove the crashing problems of the 0.6.x versions! In addition to that, you will find the first interior maps in Ba'kii Kum, new lore entries, an improved blue hedgehag, and an all new background theme for Faj'ro Temple (which will still be improved, but anyway)!
Next Steps
With the story continued we'll now focus on content again. Our goal for version 0.8 is the new Jungle area. Since this update will be about the size of 0.6 we might need a bit more time again. But that also means you can expect a buckload of content once it's done! And that's all! We all hope you'll have a fun time with the new release! Also: if you find bugs, simply tell us. It's a major release and most of you know how it goes~ Until 0.7.1!
Small update! To make sure we have everything finished and working well for the next update we need to postpone the release by another two days.
Version 0.7 will be released on Monday, June 20!
Sorry for the delay, but well... it's just two days, right?
Last Minute Hero Results
Probably about a year ago, we picked the winners of the Last Minute Hero Raffle from our Indiegogo campaign. We did that during a stream, but never really announced the results in any blog post. Whoops! So better late than never, here are the results: In total we have 174 LMH members. Each and everyone will be mentioned in the game within the member list of the guild. Hello everyone! It has been some time. Sadly, we didn’t get around to post those “Weekly Hi-Lights” every week recently, but that doesn’t mean that nothing happened. To the contrary! Scroll on for recent progress + more announcements.
Release of Next Milestone
About a month ago we released CrossCode version 0.6 with a focus on content. Our next milestone 0.7 will, as promised, finally extend the story! Also you can expect a couple new features. Here are some screenshots and gifs:
A couple new places and houses to visit!
Seeing new faces.
Mandatory Exposition in Bergen.
New stuff at the end of the Temple Mine.
...More scenes!
The new Trader List Menu for an overview of all traders
Interiors for Ba’kii Kum! We plan to release Version 0.7 on June 18! Yes, it’s fixed now! ...Let’s hope it works out!
Live Streams
There is a certain kind of regular CrossCode event that has been going on for quite some time now and we just thought it would be good to shared it once again:
CrossCode Gamedev Live Streams In those devstreams we work on CrossCode, show recent development, answer your questions and in general just chat around. Also there is often some nonsense drawing at the end. The time is usually Sundays 20:00 CEST / 11 am PDT, but sometimes streams are canceled. That’s why from now on we will schedule each CrossCode Live stream as an event in Steam's community hub. Finally. ... And yes, the next gamedev stream is already TODAY. And that’s it! We hope you look forward to the next milestone and maybe join us for today’s gamedev stream.
Today we release CrossCode version 0.6.1 that fixes most of the bugs reported by you so far!
For instance, you're finally not stuck in that one puzzle up there!
Also, Carla now won't crash the game anymore, when you ask for some shopping! ...That's because we removed the shopping option.
Well, there's still all those shops in Bergen, Ba'kii Kum and Rookie Harbor, right? Go give 'em some business!
As always, thanks to everyone for sending us the reports!
And now, onward to 0.7!
Welcome everyone and welcome back to this special occasion!
How special? Major new CrossCode-Release special! Version 0.6 has been released and with it one of the largest chunks of content we have ever released in one update! Lea will need to keep her cool to dish out some just deserts in the steaming hot new content!
But we better describe the new stuff properly before the sentence becomes too silly (too late).
New Area: Maroon Valley
The last update ended with the snowy Mt. Bergen and the freezing cold of its Temple Mine, so what would be best for Lea to recover her frozen nose? Of course, a desert! Introducing our huge new area, Maroon Valley.
As you’d expect from a desert, it is not only dry but also has less differences in altitudes compared to a mountain. That didn’t stop us from including many devilish jumping puzzles that have to be solved to find all the precious treasures hidden on the scorching sands!
But it’s not all dry and bleak. The oasis might be among the prettiest places we’ve ever created so far!
And of course we couldn’t fill it with Snowmen and Penguins (those belong on snowy mountains, Watson), so also included is an entire set of new enemies!
Meet cute scorpions and all their friends! And quickly find their weak points because blind attacks aren’t gonna cut it. All in all, this area alone is huuuge and will keep you occupied for a long time, if you want to uncover all its secrets. But of course there is more…
New Settlement: Ba’kii Kum
Ba’kii Kum is the latest settlement to go with the new area. An old city in the desert mixed with some new technology and mostly inhabited by the thus unseen natives of the planet in CrossWorlds: The Shad.
As of this update the city is still lacking in interior areas, NPCs and quests but the outside is already completed. It also has a lot of traders with entirely new items that will help you brave the new challenges!
New Dungeon: Faj’ro Temple
Yes, there is also an entirely new dungeon in this release, complete with enemies, puzzles with new mechanics and new abilities to unlock. So to progress, Lea has to explore the Faj’ro Temple, build by the Ancients a long time ago and, unlike the Temple Mine, untouched by human hand.
The main theme this time is water in all its states. You will have to move it as floating bubbles, power mechanisms with steam, freeze it to create platforms…
You will see that water can not only be the source of life but also of brain-wrecking puzzles. Which also brings us to the big treasure of this new area: The second element, Cold!
A completely new skill tree and 4 new Combat Arts are at your disposal to defeat puzzles and enemies alike! … And then, there is the boss. Again, we’ll leave it to you to find out what waits at the end of Faj’ro Temple! In fact, we again have a small contest for you! Read more on that further below.
Finalized Shop Menu
For a long time we had a very bare bones shop menu where you could only buy one item at a time and also not sell anything. Well, these times are over. Shopping is now just as familiar as browsing through your favorite online store. Find an item you like? Put in the amount you want in you cart and buy everything in a bulk with a nice list of what you’re buying.
Selling works exactly the same with the only difference being that you get money and not lose it.
Speaking of money, trading is a vital part of CrossCode for getting equipment with all kinds of modifiers. Something we wanted to add from the start now finally found its way into the game: having a fee for trading. This was part of a new wave of balancing additions to make sure you don’t have too much or not enough of something.
Quests and more
As with most of our updates this one contains a bunch of new quests, items and lore. Most of the new quests can be found in Rookie Harbor or Bergen, but you can also find new ones in Bergen Trail and Autumn’s Rise. And speaking of Autumn’s Rise. Remember all the cargo crew members you could find in the area? We finally got around and removed/replaced them. Everyone except Carla, so you can still reset your skill trees. This also means that the captain quest, the Old Observatory and the Blue Weird Guy are gone. But fret not as we plan to bring their quests back in a better fashion. Expect some beefy changes to the Old Observatory in the next version.
Contest: Beat the Boss of Faj’ro Temple!
Remember that contest we did back with the Temple Mine? We’re doing it again! Show us how you beat the boss of Faj’ro Temple! Just create a public video (Youtube, Twitch, doesn’t matter) and send us a link to contest@radicalfishgames.com. You can add your live reaction or leave it out, whatever you prefer! And just so you know - this is the room of the final boss:
Among all people who send us the video, we’ll draw the following prize: You get your personal NPC guest role in Ba’kii Kum! You can be an Avatar, a Shad or maybe something else? We’ll work together to figure out the details! Deadline: Friday, Mai 13, 23:59 PDT
Next Steps
So much new content right? Yet, the story is still stuck all the way back in Bergen Trail. We’ll work on that next! Milestone 0.7 will once again extend the story and bring more life to all those new areas! And that’s all! Have fun with the new release, everyone. We’re waiting for your feedback ... and bug reports!
The last steps before Version 0.6!
Stefan tented a lot of the new area (and the old ones too, so expect some change, whuuuuuu). This tree was done by Martina. Look at it. It's gud.
He also finished up the detail work for the new village Ba'kii Kum. Only thing missing now are proper NPCs and interiors!
Felix on the other hand worked on the new dungeon. These are just a small glimpse at the craziness he will unleash on you.
Of course a dungeon and area also need new enemies. Felix did all to them. Sleeping is for the dead anyway, right?
Finally without any screens, Intero worked up 4 new music sketches (yes, 4 new an amazing pieces of music!), T-Free created tons of new NPC graphics you will encounter in the new version (You want screens? We're not spoiling you!) and Martina is close to finishing up the interior set for the new village.
Everything points torwards 0.6. get hyped folks and:
Hello everyone!
Our last updated from April 1st included a couple of changes we decided to undo after all. :P
All joking aside though, there is a little bit of truth to the whole story: We do plan to improve the portraits!
Also: today we announce the release date for Milestone 0.6 and tell you what you can expect.
Improved Portraits
Now, except for the obvious mask covering the face - did you notice anything different about the April Fools portraits?
Well, let's take off that mask!
It's a new shiny and polished portrait! Most reviews praise CrossCode's pixel art style and we're very happy about that! Still, occasionally we received feedback that the character portraits are somewhat lacking in comparison to the smaller sprites and environment graphics. Of course, it's impossible to be perfect in all respects and that's ok! And while it's tempting to fix every problem, overdoing this tends to block actual progress and delays the final release. Yet, there is something critical about the current state of the portraits: It has a very strong impact on the first impression. In some instances people mentioned that they were initially "put off" by CrossCode, because they didn't like the look of the portraits. In the end it's the characters that will grab your attention first. That's why we decided to revise our existing portraits. However, to make sure this won't delay our progress all that much, we got some help: Marty and Gran of 10G Coin (creators of The Island and Springtime Warfare) join our team! Both being very talented artists, they help us with polishing the character designs and updating all the assets. And these are the results so far:
Other graphics will be improved as well, for instance Lea within the character menu:
It will take some time to update all existing characters and their expressions. That's why we can't promise to release the new expressions with the next milestone. However, it will happen soon! What do you think? How do you like the new portraits? For real this time. :D
Milestone 0.6
It's about time we release a new version of CrossCode for real. However, you'll have to wait a little bit longer. That's because milestone 0.6 is going to be HUGE. This milestone will include:
- Maroon Valley - an expansive new environment beating both Bergen Trail and Autumn Rise in size
- Ba’kii Kum - a new village you will find within Maroon Valley
- Faj’ro Temple - a complete new dungeon full with puzzles and boss fights
- 10+ new enemies (...including the boss fights!)
- The cold element
- More quests and NPCs within Rookie Harbor and Bergen
- Improve Trading and Shopping Menu - you can finally sell items!
- Improved party member AI
Hi-Lights
Finally, let's end today's DevLog with a couple of images of our recent development!
This is Faj’ro Temple from far away, now with animation!
About time to enter the dungeon! This map will still be improved.
A small impression of the puzzles inside Faj'ro Temple.
Meanwhile, R.D. started working on the new village - Ba’kii Kum...
... and also on finally implementing a proper shop menu - with selling option! And that's all for today's update. We still got a lot to do, so April will be very busy. Until next time!
Hello everyone!
It's the start of a new month and some of you might have already predicted it. That's right, a new release! This one is smaller but includes some important changes! So let's get right into this.
New Potraits
Creating such a large game with all these different kinds of characters made us realize something: We have to create tons of portraits graphics including multiple expressions, special poses and so on. Doing this for all these characters you'll find is quite the task. So we thought: "Hey, why don't we just simplify the workload by reducing the amounts of expressions and focus on important stuff instead?" I think you all agree that this is the best for us to make sure we can finish the game on time. So let's put it in writing: Today we announce that we reduce the amount of facial expression because we realized there are just too many of them! We're super exited and think you will all like these a lot. With this update we updated Lea, Shizuka, Sergey and Carla! Here, take a look:
As you can see we tried our best to improve on the criticism we occasionally receive from player regarding our portraits. What do you all think? I know some of you think: That's all? You reduce the graphics and make them look prettier and that's all? Well, of course not! Because...
New Sound Effects
Teflo has been working all night and day to create new sound effects which we think fit much much better than the ones we had before. The previous sounds just didn't fit in and sounded almost bland compared to the new ones. We never thought we would achieve this kind of immersions just by improving sounds, so please try them. You can download the new version of CrossCode via Steam right now or DRM-free versions when you backed the game on Indiegogo! We're eager to hear your opinion on our new portraits and the sounds! See you all soon! The Radical Fish Dev Team.
This is gonna have a lot of gifs! Check it out.
First of Felix implemented all enemies for the new area Maroon Valley. Just look at them. LOOK AT THEM. The sprites are done by T-Free and Frece.
We are almost done with all the details for Maroon Valley too! This is a small teaser! Thanks Felix, Henne and Stefan for the hard work on this.
Stefan also finally added a long requested feature: Being able to check your equipment against trade items WHILE trading.
The next dungeon is also coming along nicely. These 2 are just small examples of the kind of style you can expect from this one.
Alright, that's it! See you all next time!
Many of you already saw that coming~
We worked hard and made lot of progress, yet there is still so much to do. That’s why we have to postpone the release of CrossCode.
One year ago…
About a year ago, we started our Indiegogo campaign for CrossCode. When we finally reached our goal in Mai 2015 we targeted a release in Q2 2016. And then, full-time work started. Let’s take a minute and think back about everything we created since then! We introduced a ton of new features: Trading Items, Item Destructibles, Quests, the Landmark System, a new Save Menu, Party Members, PvP Combat, the Encylopedia, Monster Fibula, Analyze Mode and more. We also expanded the content, adding several new places like Rookie Harbor, Bergen Trail and Bergen Village. We also added the “Temple Mine” a new dungeon complete with boss fight - all of which turned out to be pretty expansive, really. And then of course: several dozens of new enemies for you to fight! And finally, we continued the story, adding about 1-2 hours of narrated playtime. Yes, a lot has happened. Yet, there is still much more to do. We could release CrossCode in Q2 2016, but then we’d have to cut content. We don’t want this. It’s important to us, that the final game will hold up to your expectations and tell the full story as we planned it. That’s why we will postpone the release and use that extra time to make CrossCode truly complete! The new release of CrossCode is scheduled for Early 2017.
A small present for all Player Perk Backers
Today, every Indiegogo backer with a “Player” perk receives an Early Access Key as well! Originally, we promised all those backers the final game. With the release further postponed, we thought it would be fair to give those people the option to play the Early Access version now as well. Of course, the same key will give you access to the final game, once it’s completed! Here is how you get your key: 1. Visit central.cross-code.com 2. If not done already click “Request Password” and submit your Indiegogo E-Mail to request a password for access 3. Login with E-Mail and Password 4. You’ll find your Steam Key + DRM Free version right on the first page
Recent progress
And just to show you that development still goes fast, here again a summary of our recent progress!
You now additionally spend Credits when trading items. Finally a way to get rid of all that money! We started working on new Puzzles for the Heat Dungeon!
Here you see water bubbles and propellers...
... the Freezebee...
... physically accurate water blocks...
... quicksand...
... strangely glowing pipes...
... and finally: Elemental poles! We also made a lot of progress with Maroon Valley! All maps have been roughly created (including some feisty puzzles) and we also worked on weather effects...
...like this sand storm! And finally we're also working on new quests in the Rookie Harbor area! And that’s all! Sorry to make you wait longer, but we hope that this extra time will help to make CrossCode the one ball-throwing adventure you’ll never forget!
We ride the content train again and it's going fast!
We started work on a new area which we named: Maroon Valley. Here's the first map!
We also started work on the next dungeon! Felix and Frece spend a lot of time creating the tileset.
Stefan added sub quests and made it possible for lore entries to be indented to have a better view over all your quests and Encyclopedia entries.
We also planned out all the enemies for the new dungeon. T-Free promptly started to work one of them!
Finally Stefan added an Activity Log where you can see the last things you did in the game.
A usual with any major release it comes with a couple of bugs. That's why today we have another small release that tries to fix some of them!
Here an incomplete list of fixes and changes.
- The stats menu now has proper labels!
- You now can't use items during PvP. No more cheating!
- Enemies won't randomly be aggroed when Emilie is in your party
- Apollo is properly defeated and gives you EXP and a defeat-count in the Monster Fibula
- A new symbol for new synopsis items. Also now on tabs.
- Emilie won't stand around in Rookie Harbor once she left your party
- The text correction feature (press F7) now works for all the content within the encyclopedia!
- More random avatar names!
- Lot's of spelling fixes. Thanks to everybody who contributed corrections!
Hello and welcome!
It's finally time for a new version of CrossCode! And boy it has a lot of new stuff! We have menus, story, content and... Linux and MacOS versions in store! So let's get right to it!
The Story Continues
As promised the story of CrossCode will continue with the 0.5 release. After arriving in Rookie Harbor you'll now get a proper introduction into CrossWorlds and what this game is about:
You'll also get the chance to have a duel with a certain someone:
It's time to see who the better Speromancer is! Huh? What about Emilie? Ah! Of course we can't forget one of the biggest new features we added to CrossCode:
Party Members
That's right! Emilie joins the fight as Ai-controlled Party member. And just like you might have guessed she will be using a lot of close ranged attacks combined with quick dodges. Now you can pummel foes with even more style! Perfect Guard an enemy and let Emilie finished the job, no problem! We're really happy about this feature and we hope you all have a lot of fun with it. But fret not if you think Emilie will steal the show! You can adjust her behavior by using the new Party Strategy Menu in the Quick Menu:
All party members will follow your lead immediately. So if you rather want to fight along, you can still do so. Some party of the story might require you to keep a party member for a set amount of time but you will be able to switch them out eventually. How, you ask? Why through the Social Menu of course!
This menu lists all your contacts and let's you invite them into your party (which can consist of up to 3 people). You can also just contact them if you want to chat:
Speaking of menus, we also added a bunch of new menus that were long overdue!
Encyclopedia, Records & Monster Fibula
After a certain point in the story you will now gain the Disc of Insight which grants you access to 3 new menus in the Synopsis section.
Encyclopedia
The Encyclopedia is a compendium of all the lore in CrossCode, that includes your Story progression, Characters, in-game lore of CrossWorlds and Real World lore which covers topics like the M.S. Solar cargo ship or what company created CrossWorlds. Each entry can have multiple paragraphs and pages. The progress for each one is reflected by the completion percent on the right side of the entry.
Records
The Records Menu is CrossCode in numbers. Everything from "Total exp gained in combat" to "Number of times Lea said 'hi'" is included (Yes, we count those). You'll also get some nice percent view of your total progress in CrossCode via this menu. For as long as the Early Access is active these percentages might be off from times to times as we add new stuff.
Monster Fibula
Finally the Monster Fibula. In this menu you find detailed information about every enemy you fought (and defeated). Once you defeated an enemy a certain number of times you'll unlock the second page which contains what we call Reports. Reports are information on an enemy you found somewhere. However, the first entry is always unlocked. Currently not all enemies have reports so expect more of them in the next releases!
Analyze Mode
Something we've planned from the very beginning has now found its way into the game, too! You can now analyze your environment!
Using the Scope button in the quick menu you can hover over points of interest to reveal their purpose. To tell them apart each point can have a different color. For instance violett stands for traders or shopkeepers while blue if for regular NPCs. Their are also special types like the red ones in the screen above! Those are for enemies. By Just opening the quick menu you can see the level of an enemy. Hovering over an enemy reveals its base stats:
Better watch out... Quest NPCs will also be visible immediately once you entered the quick menu. This way you'll always know where you can find an important quest-related character. This also allows us to create interesting quests where you have to use the Analyze Mode to find something otherwise hidden.
Other Updates
Beside these big new features we also changed small things and worked on existing features and areas. One of those is Bergen Village which finally gets more crowded. It's not quite where we want it but still, it's an improvement:
As you can see Bergen now has it's own set of NPCs graphics! The Quest Hub in Rookie Harbor also got a make over and is now swarming with players:
Apart from this, there are smaller changes like the new Tutorials which will only popped once when you first took on a quest or learned a combat art.
Also visible here are the new updates messages you get when finding a landmark. This will also pop up when solving a quest task. If you rather want to use the old style on the right side of the screen you can change the setting in the Options Menu! Speaking of the Options Menu, since we added the Social Menu we decided to move the Options Menu to the Pause Screen to avoid having to much menu options in the main menu. And last but not least we also have new sounds for various actions in CrossCode as well as a new theme for Bergen Village! Check it out right here: https://soundcloud.com/interovgm/bergen-village
Linux and MacOS Version
We finally took some time to work on the Linux and MacOS Versions of the game, or better the build process and getting it to run in Steam. With the 0.5 version we'll be providing a first build for both systems. However it's very much a work in progress and errors might occur. Hopefully everything will work right away! ---- Phew~ Alright! That's all for the 0.5 Version! Or wait... there is one final thing... AUTOSAVE!
We finally added it! Who needs saving anyway? ---- Alright everyball, that's it! We hope you enjoy the new version just as much as we enjoyed working on it! We're eager to here your feedback (both good and bad). We'll have a follow up next week to tell you more about our milestone for 0.6 so stay tuned. Until next time!
Hello everyone! Since we introduced the Hi-Lights of the week you get regular updates with new stuff we've been working on. Still, we kinda missed out on telling you about the next Milestone Release. We want to do this today: It will be very soon!
Milestone 0.5
With our last release 0.4 we added a major part of content with the Cold Dungeon and Bergen Village. With Milestone 0.5, you will mostly get two things: Features and Story! We plan to release the Milestone 0.5 in Feburary 9, 2016! Here a quick summary of what you will get!
Lore Menu! You can now collect all kind of background information about CrossWorlds and more. In the Lore Menu, you will find all the details in one place!
Stats Menu! ... where you can see all the stats of your current game. (still WIP, you'll get proper icons in those tabs!)
Enemy Menu! You'll be able to see the basic stats and item drops for all the enemies you have encountered on your journey!
Analyse Quick Menu! You can use this one to anaylyse your enemies... among other things! And then...
Party Members! Finally other players will join you on your travels and help you during combat! It also comes with several connected features such as...
... the Party Member Menu, where you can see the detailed stats of your party, and...
... the Party Member Strategie Menu! Sometime you want to make sure, your party behaves appropriately, right? And finally: More Story! Impressions:
CrossWeek
Next week, we'll have another CrossWeek! That means many of our team members will meet together (again in Hannover, Germany) and work full-time on CrossCode for almost a full week! We'll use this as some kind of final sprint to get that Milestone 0.5 done in time, among other things! Our last CrossWeek was a long time ago, back in 2014. So it's about time we do this again! This time, we'll try to also post regular updates about all the stuff we did! So stay tuned for a whole bunch of new stuff! And that's all for this DevLog, until next time!
Some of us got sick this week, but we did stuff anyway!
First up, Felix worked on scenes again. And look who popped up again!
He also added in Emilie's graphics and attacks! The graphics are done by T-Free. Just look at that whooping dodge.
Stefan got sick, but we took some time to add a new entry to the quick menu: Party Strategy! Here you can tell your partners what do.
Next to this we started adding text to the lore menu! Each entry can have multiple paragraphs. Can you unlock them all? You can also see that new entries are marked with a little icon. This way you always know if something has been updated!
Finally Stefan added 3 new maps for Autumn's Rise. This sub area is a small village for guilds which will become important for the story as you progress the game. Here you will also find the headquarters of the Last Minute Heroes!
That's all for this week! See next time!
We missed the last week, but return with fantastical new stuff this time. Let's get right to it!
Felix started work on the story and added a few more scenes to Rookie Harbor. Finally the game inside the game will be explained.
Since party members are now a part of CrossCode, Stefan made a new menu for it (With Felix creating some of the assets). Can you guess the inspiration?
He also finally implemented the Analyze menu which was designed by Felix. Get a quick look at your foe or inspect the environment.
Here's another look at the analyze menu with added overlay. Stones have feeling to, right?
But wait there is more, the new enemy menu! Once you defeated a foe you can find an entry for it in this menu.
And finally we listend to your feedback and Felix did and amazing job implementing skipable tutorials!
This is it for this week! Sorry again for the delay it won't (maybe) happen again.
Until then!
Happy Holidays, everyone! And just in time, we wrapped up a small present for all of you! Today we release CrossCode version 0.4.1 introducing several bug fixes, two new heat arts, a fancy new save/load menu, and a little quest!
Just look out for this guy, he needs your help!
We wish you good luck and a good time!
Your Team Radical Fish Games

Take the best out of two popular genres, find a good balance between them and make a great game. That’s what CrossCode does. And it works pretty well. You get the puzzles of Zelda-esque dungeons and are rewarded with the great variety of equipment you know and love from RPGs. During the fast-paced battles you will use the tools you find on your journey to reveal and exploit the enemies' weaknesses and at the same time will be able to choose equipment and skills for a more in-depth approach in fighting your enemies.
