Dungeon Souls Development Update


Hey everyone! Some of you are probably wondering why hasn't there been any recent update to the game (having into account the update frequency). We, the Dungeon Souls team and Lamina Studios team, have something to tell you. We're currently undergoing some internal changes in the company.

What Is This About?


Due to internal changes that are being made in the company, the development progress of Dungeon Souls has become quite slow (and is expected to keep like this for at least a month or two). As such, no updates will probably occur between the writing of this news and the 1-2 months time frame. We do know that some of you will be upset when reading this (since we have been reading the Steam discussions and emails sent about bugs, suggestions and feedback in general), but we can only apologize for the upcoming small hiatus in updates and ask you for your understanding and patience. We would also like to take this time to appreciate all ongoing support that you've shown for the game, as we feel that, no matter how many times we do express it, it is never enough! In all honesty, the player base is what is supporting the development of the game and the addition of new features (if it weren't for you guys and gals, we doubt we've had added any features or updates since 2017), so thank you for the support!

That's Great And All But What About The Issues And Features Of The Game That Still Need To Be Tackled?


As stated previously, we've been paying attention to the feedback you've been given, from issues to suggestions. Some of the most worrying aspects are as follows:
  • Items for those players who signed the sign board and helped with the game during its pre-release
  • Modding support fixes and functionalities
  • Controller support (bugs, adaptation to certain OS, removal of "clunky" feeling to the controls)
  • Local co-op (bugs related with local co-op functionality of the game)
In regard to the list above, these issues will be worked on and have not been forgotten. However, their development is currently slower than what would be desirable.

In Sum


We, as a team, decided it would be best to inform you of the small hiatus in updates. We do not have the intetion to say that the game won't be developed at all with this message. Our goal is simply to inform you, as a player, that the next update will take a long time before it arrives and to hang on and bear with us! Dungeon Souls v1.1.1 - Modding Hotfix


Scope

Known Issues


  • In some systems (both operative system and hardware components), the game has severe lags spikes for brief periods of time. This usually has to do with malfunctioning input devices, but a fix is being developed. If this occurs to you, please send an email to laminastudios@gmail.com with the operative system you have and hardware, as well as any relevant information (the time you were playing at and what were you doing).
  • Currently, to some players, Steam functionalities are not working under Linux systems, as well as a few in-game functionalities (such as minimap). We are working into resolving this issue.
  • During co-op, heroes have a different currency than the one specified on the HUD, resulting in some characters being able to buy certain items that the other player can't (due to gold spent). This will be fixed in a future patch.

Modding Support


We have added modding support for Dungeon Souls! Hurray! steamhappy Currently, the modding feature is limited to items only, but if players like it a lot and we start seeing quite the engagement, more features are to come! Game Elements


Redeemer Changed Redeemer's behaviour due to feedback concerning the amount of time available in a dungeon before Redeemer appeared. On easy and normal difficulties, redeemer will take twice the amount of time to appear (x2 multiplier). Also, the base amount of time it takes for the Redeemer to appear has been increased by over 60%. Voice Acting Changed both Skeleton King's and Slime Gargantulum's voice lines! We've also changed Slime Gargantulum's voice and revamped Skeleton King's!

Hero Balancing


We've taken a look into the feedback obtained from the hero balancing survey! From an analysis, we found out that every hero seems to be both over powered and under powered (suggesting that it depends on the player's play style). However, there were some heroes who were more "unfairly" under powered when compared with other heroes. We also observed general feedback in regard to abilities and cooldowns. As such, here is our hero balancing update! We hope you guys like it! steamhappy

Passives


At max passive level (and, proportionally, all levels below):
  • Changed passive health from 75% to 50%.
  • Changed passive damage from 40% to 30%
  • Changed passive crit from 25% to 20%
  • Changed passive defense from 150% to 120%
  • Changed passive resist from 140% to 120%

Barbarian


Thunder Axe Increased shockwave scaling damage from 10+(5 per skill level) physical damage and 90+(10 per skill level) magical damage to 70+(10 per skill level) physical damage and 60+(10 per skill level) magical damage. Cooldowns Changed Shout of Rage's cooldown from 15 seconds to 10. Changed Thunder Axe's cooldown from 18 seconds to 4.

Archer


Cooldowns Changed Pentuple Arrow's cooldown from 12 seconds to 10. Changed Rain of Arrows' cooldown from 18 seconds to 6.

Thief


Stats
  • Increased base hp by 10.
[strike]Thief Bomb[/strike] changed to (NEW)Dagger Flurry: Throws an empowered dagger at up to 6+(1 per skill level) nearby enemies, dealing 150+(40 per skill level) physical damage. Cooldowns Changed Invisibility's cooldown from 14 seconds to 8.

Wizard


Stats
  • Increased base hp by 20.
  • Increased base magic resist by 1.
Duplicate Now creates a flash fire that deals 80+(30 per skill level) magical damage to nearby enemies. Cooldowns Changed basic attack cooldown from 1 second to 0.8 seconds. Changed Duplicate's cooldown from 14 seconds to 6.

Cleric


Stats Increased base hp by 20 Holy Gate Now grants split projectiles +20+(10 per skill level)% extra magic damage. Regeneration Now instantly heals for 20+(20 per skill level) and grants 10+(2 per skill level) health regeneration each 3 seconds. Reduced cooldown from 15 seconds to 12.

Necromancer


Blood for Attack Now adds 50+(30 per skill level)% physical damage and 50+(10 per skill level)% magic damage, but consumes 10+(5 per skill level)% health per basic attack and reduces health regen by 75%

NightBlade


Thick Armour Grants 50+(10 per skill level) defense for 3 seconds, during which nightblade starts expelling energy. After the 3 seconds, thick armour explodes, dealing 120+(20 per skill level)% physical and 120(+20 per skill level)% magical damage to nearby enemies. Weapon Switch Changed the effect so that the first 2+(2 per skill level) strikes deal the extra damage.

Engineer


Stats Increased movement speed by 0.1 March my Beauties! Fixed a bug where damage was being multiplied by bonus damage.

Sign Board

Game Elements


Redeemer


Changed Redeemer's summon behaviour. Now, the redeemer will appear after a certain amount of time has passed (more than enough to complete the level), regardless of the number of activated marks. It will also appear after activating the final mark. This change derived from a review requested by players, since the Redeemer's purpose in the game wasn't obvious (since you could grind on a level for ever, as long as the last mark remained unactive). Special thanks to Steam user Einko for his suggestion on the matter!

Items


Sign Board A little bit of a more personal note here: about a year ago, we requested players that helped with the game's alpha and beta stages to sign a Sign Board, since we had a surprise stored. However, we took a long time to reply to this surprise (even though the original intent never changed, which was personal custom items named after the players) and we'd like to apologize for the time it has taken! In the next patches, ALL people that signed the board up until now will get an item in the game named after them. We will continue doing and extend this rewarding behaviour to any players we see are worthy of it, being dependent on factors such as their participation in the game, engagement with the community and overall support for the game! steamhappy Some of the items have descriptions and effects determined by us.   • Fixed a bug where the ending cutscenes were being displayed without having freed all heroes.
  • IMPORTANT: Added a temporary fix mechanism to the Out-Of-Map issue. Now, when out of bounds, if the player exceeds a square area around the map, the player will be teleported back to the dungeon's door.
  • IMPORTANT: Fixed a bug, in internal tests, where difficulty would not unlock. This means that we could no longer reproduce the bug and, players who were contacted by us with this issue no longer could as well. However, we're still not 100% sure if it's fixed. If you experience this bug, despite the fix, please email us at laminastudios@gmail.com or diogo.braga@laminastudios.com so we can enter in contact with you.
  • Fixed a bug where bane scepter would always crash upon use.
  • Fixed a bug where Power weapons could add negative bonus damage.
  • Fixed a bug where background audio music would fail to change with the slider's value
  • Fixed a bug where the inventory would disappear with the tutorial's message.
  • Fixed a bug where the player could take damage during cutscenes.
  • Fixed a bug where [spoiler]the enemies on the core would persist after the core's stabilization.[/spoiler]

Feedback Changes


  • Changed quick-cast so it automatically casts the ability, instead of first shifting to the desired ability and, after a second press, casting it.
  • Implemented a suggestion related to the arcane forge UI described in this post! Thanks Steam user KERBAL BASS
  • Reduced health regeneration passive max value from 3 health per second to 2 health per second (changes all values below it, accordingly)

The christmas event has just arrived! From the 22nd to the 28th of Decemeber, you will be able to play the special game mode in the Frozen Land! This mode will have you saving good children from naughty, demon children sent by Judgement! After rescueing each child, you'll take on Santa's job by awarding them a present! Objective: Save the children from the demons and gift them presents. Reward: Christmas Event Recipes and ingredients. Accessability: You can access the Frozen Land via the orange, santa-hatted teleporter. The teleporter will appear in the ice level. It will not spawn in a boss room. Duration: The event lasts from the 22nd of december to the 28th of december.

Gamepad Deadzone Axis We've added a new option under "Gamepad Settings" that enables the player to customize the global deadzone value for the joysticks of gamepads. The higher the value, the higher the displacement of the joystick needs to be for the game to recognize that the joystick has moved.

Armory You can now unequip items. To do so, press 'R' (or the Y button on a gamepad) to enter in the unequip mode. Pressing the "pick" key will remove the selected item.

[spoiler]The Core is a new secret map where the Dungeon Souls' core resides. The teleporter to access this level has a chance of appearing at the last dungeon of the game (The End). Its appearance is caused by an instability on the Core. Enemies in this map are specially hard and the boss can only be beaten by picking up Stabilizing Agents. Despite this, the rewards are epic - a new set of extremely powerful weapons.[/spoiler] Be careful though - this map is especially hard! Access: [spoiler] On "The End", a teleporter has a chance of spawning. [/spoiler] Boss Battle: [spoiler] The player has to beat enemies that are spawned by the Core until a Stabilizing Agent is dropped. When picked up, it will damage the Core. [/spoiler] Rewards: Power Weapon recipes (these recipes can only be picked on this area)

(NEW) Rockstone Mountain


[spoiler] Rockstone Mountain is a new secret map, taking the player to a very high place! Even though the area is filled with dangerous enemies, there is no boss at sight. However, there is a rather peculiar object on the boss' level instead... [/spoiler] Be careful though - this map is hard! Access: [spoiler] The Strange Rock is the key to teleport the player. It spawns on The Judgement's Level. The player must hold one of the following items: Compass, Magnet, Spiked Shoes, Butterfly Wings [/spoiler] Boss Battle: [spoiler] There is no boss battle at this stage. Instead, there is a rather peculiar statue. [spoiler] Triggering the statue causes a small instability on the Dungeon's Core. [spoiler] The instability increases the chances of the Core's teleporter to spawn on the End level. [/spoiler] [/spoiler] [/spoiler] Rewards: Ingredients.

  • Fixed a bug with event portals where the player would get teleported when picking an item.
  • Fixed a bug where the Judgement's death animation could still crash the game on rare moments.
  • Fixed a bug where the character speed was too high (the game should now limit it to 2.5 units per second)
  • Fixed quicksave portal's activation range as to make it easier to save.
  • Fixed a graphical issue where the gamepad connection information would overlay during arcane forge and armoury. Now this information only appears on the main menu
  • Changed the system so that gamepad is disabled by default, as not to confuse new comming players (thanks to Steam user Guidsmaster for the suggestion!)
  • Fixed a bug where the backup system was saving recipe and item changes, but only locally (now correctly transfers to Steam Cloud).
  • Fixed a bug where the game would falsly recognize a crash after an ending cutscene was displayed.
  • Changed the ending cutscene system so that it explains to the player they've returned to the main menu due to completing part of the story.
  • Fixed a bug where lanterns would appear behind walls (thanks to Steam user Zior for reporting this and many other bugs!)

Known Issues


  • In some systems (both operative system and hardware components), the game has severe lags spikes for brief periods of time. This usually has to do with malfunctioning input devices, but a fix is being developed. If this occurs to you, please send an email to laminastudios@gmail.com with the operative system you have and hardware, as well as any relevant information (the time you were playing at and what were you doing).
  • Currently, Steam functionalities are not working under Linux systems. We are working into resolving this issue.
  • Due to the nature of gamepads, there are controllers whose sensitivity is too high to play with. We are working on a way for player to customize the sensitivity and deadzone axis.
  • When an ability can be leveled up, it will block the cooldown of the ability. We are trying new UI designs in order to improve this.
  • Currently, it is not possible to unequip items in arcane forge. We will implement this feature in a short future patch.
  • The Razer Event's Chroma Sword recipe does not seem to appear to some players. This is currently being fixed and the event will be launched in the future to compensate for this issue. Also, players who were able to obtain all recipes but the Chroma Sword will automatically have it in their inventory after the fix.

Game Elements



Events


(NEW) Razer Event The razer event has just arrived! From the 11th of novemeber to the 19th of november, you will be able to play the special game mode in the Razer Area! This mode tests your skills in three components, each per level! In the first level, you'll have to clear it before the time runs out. In the second level, you'll have to defeat as many enemies as specified by the counter. In the third and final level, you'll have to survive waves of monsters for 3 minutes! At the end, special Razer Chroma themed loot will be provided! Be careful though - this game mode is especially hard! Objective: First Level: Clear the level under a certain time limit. Second Level: Defeat a certain amount of enemies. Third Level: Survive for 3 minutes.
Reward: Razer Chroma recipe (only obtainable in this area) and ingredients. Accessability: You can access the Razer Chroma Area via the green-lime teleporter. The green-lime teleporter will appear in every area on the first and second levels. It will not spawn in a boss room. Duration: The event lasts from the 11th of novemeber to the 19th of november.

Game Statuses


(NEW)Stun: The stunned status has been remade and created on the game. When an enemy is stunned, it cannot attack or move for the duration. Little stars will appear above the enemy during the effect.

(NEW) Pets


The game now has Pets! Pets are creatures that are picked up like items and will follow the owner. Their stats are mostly based off the owner's stats and they can attack nearby enemies and even pick up nearby loot! They are also invinsible and follow you around.

Valentine's


Everyone who completed the valentine event's challenge this year will get all the recipes for the items obtainable during the event! The unique ingredients will also be supplied.

(NEW) Halloween


The halloween event has just arrived! From the 26th of october to the 2nd of november, you will be able to play the special game mode in "Forsaken Tomb"! In this mode, you'll have to defend the Pumpkin Spirit by fighting 10 waves of enemies. If you reach the end, special Halloween loot will be provided! Objective: Fight all 10 waves without letting the Pumpkin Spirit die. Reward: A Pumpkin Chest filled with special Halloween ingredients, as well as legendary Halloween recipes! Accessability: You can access the Forsaken Tomb via the teal teleporter. The teal teleporter will appear in every area on the first and second levels. It will not spawn in a boss room. Duration: The event lasts from the 26th of october to the 2nd of november.

  • Going into "Options" in the main menu will no longer cause the game to restart.
  • Potentially fixed a bug where players could not disable the gamepad (has yet to be confirmed by the majority of players).
  • Fixed a button where the Passive's button for the gamepad in the character select screen was not working properly.
  • Added a new options section called "Gamepad Settings" where you can enable and disable the gamepad's aim bot.
  • Fixed a bug where Mac users could not get past a question box, due to interal engine issues, when recovering backup data.
  • Fixed a bug where items that would spawn physical objects (like Bleeding Eyeball and Spike Ball) would disappear after quickload.
  • Fixed a bug where multiple 'Eh!'s would appear.

  • Game won't work on windows 10 unless it has compatibility mode enabled (we are working to have both versions supported).

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a bug where Quick Restarting with a Random character would cause the game to crash.
  • Fixed a bug where the revive button wouldn't be activated with the 'pick' key when selecting a character.
  • Fixed a bug where the game could crash upon an Explosive Slime's death, under certain conditions.
  • Fixed a bug where the game would crash when opening local co-op under certain conditions.
  • Fixed a bug where the game data could get corrupted by a crash, losing all progress, and the backup system would fail to restore the data. You will now get prompted when this happens.
  • Made the "Fly" enemy have an outer red glow so that it is more visible during gameplay.
  • Fixed a bug where the game could crash upon an Explosive Slime's death, under certain conditions.

KNOWN ISSUES


  • Game won't work on windows 10 unless it has compatibility mode enabled (we are working to have both versions supported).
  • Some players seem to be unable to disable the gamepad. We are working with players to fix this issue.

GAMEPAD SUPPORT


(BETA) Optimization & AI


Several reviews have pointed out that the controller scheme, no matter what it was, would feel a bit uncomfortable at playing, rendering the option useless. As such, we created an aimbot system with the following functionalities:
  • Auto Aim Assist: The AI will automatically target nearby enemies, if the player is not using the controller's aim stick.
  • Auto Direction: The AI will automatically target a position slightly in front of the character's direction. This function has the objective to minimize the aim-stick movement for casual interactions.
Please let us know if we should keep this feature in and/or improve it!

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a bug where soul orbs would act weirdly and possibly crash the game.
  • Fixed an optimization bug where invisible walls would spawn and stop the player from completing a level.

  • Increase FPS count, on average, by 20 FPS.
  • Fixed a bug where certain quicksave stats were not being kept.
  • Fixed a bug where the compass would stop working after a quickload.
  • Quicksave no longer closes the game. Instead, brings the player to the main menu.
  • Fixed a major bug in local-coop where Xbox controllers or other gamepads would not work as intended.
  • Fixed a bug where Xbox controllers or other gamepads would show an odd behaviour in single player.

  • Fixed a bug that would cause the game to crash after several restarts.
  • Fixed a bug where the brawler and engineer would not get reset when attempting to "Reset Data".
  • Changed the "Reset Data" so that the story-made actions are also reset.

DEVELOPER NOTE


We'd like to talk with you about the last few months of progression in Dungeon Souls. As you may have noticed, there weren't any significant updates in the past months and the game looked a bit "neglected" or even discontinued. We do apologize for this kind of feeling we let off. Despite the fact that content wise the progress was slow, we've been doing several analysis of the community's reviews and taking time to fix the bugs and issues with the game. We've also taken time to re-structure our QA process so that you don't have to suffer with so many bugs (since it really doesn't seem professional and I believe we can all agree on that). We do want you to know that we do care a lot about your reviews of the game and we read and evaluate every single one. We'd also like to thank those of you that were understanding of the situation. Apart from the above, we can promise that we have quite a lot of content updates planned until the end of the year, already on the making!

MOST RECENT FIXES


We have fixed the following issues found in the last 24h:
  • Fixed a bug where Nightblade could get negative armour
  • Fixed a bug where Linux would start in fullscreen, but the game would be stuck on the bottom left corner with a small screen size.
  • Fixed a bug where passive bonus weren't being correctly applied.
  • Fixed a bug where changing options and starting the game could crash for some users.

    Game Elements


    Crash Manager Added a new mechanism that detects when a crash occurs during a playthrough. If such an event happens, the manager will recover the amount of gold collected, as well as the rank. Quicksave Added a new quicksave feature to the game. Every time you defeat a boss, a Gate appears. This gate allows you to quicksave your run, just in case you want to take a break from playing but keep going with the run!

    • Fixed a bug where Razer effects were not being displayed properly.

    Dungeon Souls Update v1.0.4 - UI/UX Redesign and Razer Chroma


    Scope

    Game Elements


    UI Remake The game's user interface has undergone several changes to make it easier for new players, whilst making it familiar to old players. We tried to balance both of these factors whilst doing it! Here follows a list of UI elements changed: Gameplay
    • Added new flavour text options to disable most of the text clutter during gameplay for experienced players.
    • Traded most some of the game's text-based information for icon-based information.
    • Fixed a visual bug with the inventory menu
    • Changed visual representation of skill points in the stats menu.
    Gamepad Aware
    • The game will now change and display information from several UI elements if a gamepad is detected.
    Controller's Skill Menu
    • Changed the active selector of skills
    • Made the menu compatible with other menus (so it wouldn't overlay)
    • Changed the position of elements around to occupy a smaller space.
    Character Select
    • Changed the titles of the classes to have a unique feel to each hero.
    • Changed the position of the passive button to a more noticable place.

    • The menu now shows what weapon the hero has currently equipped.

    • Changed the passive's menu to be compatible with the gamepad.
    Armory Menu

    (NEW) Valentine's


    A new stage was added to celebrate valentine's day! Help the cupids of the Love Temple get rid of the stone cold Gargoyles! Objective: Save as many cupids as possible. The cupids spawn alongsided with the gargoyles whenever you touch a mark. The gargoyles are strong, so be prepared to take them down quickly! Reward: For each cupid saved, there will be an uncommon item waiting for you at the door. There's a high chance of one of those items being a rare item! Accessibility: You can access the Love Temple via the pink teleporter. The pink teleporter has a chance of appearing near the portal in the Cathedral area. It will not spawn in a boss room. Duration: The event lasts from 14th of February to the 20th of February!

    Story


    • Added new story elements to the game!
    • (NEW)Final Cutscenes: added a final ending cutscene for each possible ending.
    • Updated soundtrack of the game.

    Judgement


    (NEW)Death Animation: Added an unskipable cutscene when the first phase of the Judgement ends. The cutscene shows the summoning of the second phase. Added a beam of light whenever a boss is summoned to aid judgement.

    GUI


    Changed the update behaviour of the hero GUI's health bar. The bar now refreshes faster when the player loses hp, proportional to the amount of health lost.

    Life Steal


    Now only applies to damage dealt by a hero. Still heals all heroes.

    Optimization


    Decreased the base amount of memory (RAM) usage from 580-600MB to 250-300MB, at a cost of a bit more of the cpu. However, the cpu used should be very spontaneous. Decreased the size of the game file to around 90MB.

    • Lifesteal pop up now shows "stolen" instead of "syphoned" and now displays the amount of health recovered.

    • Fixed a bug where the Skeleton King would cut the audio at "The End" level.
    • Fixed a bug with Glass Cannon where you could exploit the stat increase of characters such as the Destroyer and get infinite damage.
    • Fixed a bug where the game would crash upon defeating the Soul Guardian if certain requirements were met for the Soul Orb.
    • Fixed the Golden Shelf's range to match the tooltip range.
    • Fixed a bug where a memory leak would occur in the game, causing an "Out of Memory!" fatal error to appear.
    • Fixed a bug where cloud saving wasn't working properly.
    • Fixed a bug where the Skeleton King achievement was being given without the requirements being met.
    • Baker Achievement now no longer needs story-only recipes to be completed. This means recipes like "Murderer Ring" are not needed to get the achivement.
    • Fixed a bug where allied units (such as the necromancer's skeletons and the engineer's spiders) were not being damaged.

    Dungeon Souls Launch (Update #16)

    Scope


    Details of this section: [spoiler]This section contains the scope of what patches were made in the current version.[/spoiler] Patch 16 introduces Local Co-op, as well as minor balance changes, graphical updates and story implementation. Steam cards and achievements are now enabled. The patch also adds a few bug fixes along the way. The minor balance attempts to make the experience of playing melee heroes a bit easier, by increasing their base health.

    Game Elements

    Melee Heroes: -Increased base health by 20. This initial health boost, alongsided with the passives, should make melee heroes easier to play (allowing one or two more hits in each level).

    Dungeon Souls can now be played with up to two players, on a local computer!

    Rules:


    On the Local Co-op game mode, there are several rules that are applied to the standard way of playing the game. They are as follows:
    • The local co-op only supports 2 players playing at the same time. Player 1 must use the keyboard. Player 2 can attach any gamepad to play.
    • Every enemy's stats are increased by 1.75x their original value. This multiplier is applied after the difficulty multiplier. This makes the game remain challenging, even in local co-op.
    • Players have shared inventory. This means that items picked by one player will also benefit the other player's stats.
    • Players have shared passives. This means the passives upgraded on the single player run will also affect the local co-op run.
    • The screen is split in half and each player has their own screen to play. This means that there are two cursors for each screen. The cursor's color will depend on the player's hero color.
    • If one player dies, their screen will turn black and display the "Dead" message. If, however, the other player can reach a boss stage, all players get revived.
    • Arcane Forge appear beside Player 1.
    • The game's story elements will only have in account Player 1.
    • Only one stats upgrade menu can be opened at a time.
    • Only one inventory menu can be opened at a time.
    These rules will be available in-game on an upcoming patch.

    Art Assets

    All art assets of "The End" dungeon have been updated to match the game's current look-and-feel.

    Gameplay Mechanics


    The End


    (REMOVED)Auto-Teleport Killing all enemies in "The End" will no longer cause a 3 second timer to teleport you to the center of the room. (NEW)Obelisk Teleporter After defeating every enemy on each stage, an obelisk will appear beside the player. This obelisk allows the player to teleport to the room's portal.

    Story Elements


    [spoiler] (NEW)Soul Orb Collection Heroes can now collect their respective Soul Orbs from the Soul Guardian. Each player has its own Soul Orb (indicated by the pulsating color of the hero, as well as displayed on the item's tooltip). If the hero manages to defeat Selene with a Soul Orb, the Soul Orb's hero will get resurrected. Each hero can only collect up to 3 Soul Orbs per game. This mechanic is the way of beating the game. End-game scenes will be available on an upcoming patch! [/spoiler]

    Steam Cards and Achievements


    Steam Cards, Badges and Achievements have been added! There are 10 available achievements to collect (although, in this patch, only 9 can be unlocked).

    Arcane Forge


    The arcane forge is a place where you can forge items and weapons to use in future runs for your heroes. You do so by using recipes collected in the Forbidden Library (random drop from monsters) and by collecting materials from your runs. Whenever an item reaches full stack, it will drop ingredients to be used on the arcane forge! Thanks to everyone who contributed, specially to Steam user Herbrek for the suggestion! No changes to state.

    Bug Fixes

    • Can You Shush For A Second? - Fixed a bug where boss voice lines could repeat indefinitely. Now, each boss voice line has the minimum duration of 1 second. This means that another voice line can only be played once the previous voice line has played for 1 second.
    • No More Nausea Please! - Fixed a bug where moving the cursor whilst viewing the player's inventory would cause the background to move. This contrast in static-movement could cause nauseous effects.
    • Fixed a bug where Gamepad Reticule Aid could create undesired behaviour. The system was changed to behave more passively and only if it detects the player needs aid with aiming.
    • Heavily increased FPS to account for Local Co-op. NOTE: The FPS increase between each patch should now reach a halt, as most of the optimization has been completed. If you still have trouble running the game, please refer to the Contact Information on the game's Credits for further assistance.

    Known Issues


    Here follows a list of all the known issues and/or suggestions that we've taken a look into but were unable to fix for this patch. Hopefully, this list gets shorter with each patch :) Known Issues -Due to the way the engineer behaves, his spider are dealing more damage than anticipated (each spider is dealing the displayed tooltip damage). We'll try to balance this issue out. -Some dungeons can spawn without any marks. We have special plans for this situation ;) -A new mechanic to cap the movement speed of heroes is needed, due to some of them still going sonic-like when using certain movement speed objects.

    Considerations In Up-Comming Patches

    Dungeon Souls Update #15.2

    Scope


    Details of this section: [spoiler]This section contains the scope of what patches were made in the current version.[/spoiler] Patch 15.2 introduces several bug fixes. It also introduces a revamped passive system, as well as some minor refinements to the User Interface.

    Game Elements


    Passives


    Revamped The passives mechanism has been changed. Previously, the passives bonuses would only apply at the starting stats of the hero. Here follow the changes: -When the maximum health, attack damage, magical damage, magical resist or defense stats increase, the passive bonus is also applied. -Speed passive will only be based off of the hero's initial speed. -Critical effect adds to the hero's critical effect. -Hp regen is now based off of a flat amount, instead of the player's percentage health. -(CHANGED)Greed now increases all gold gained by 4% per level, up to a total of 40% increase.     User Interface


    -Changed the "Press [Tab]" key text to "[Tab] to assign stats". -The stats level up text indicator now blinks to call the player's attention. -The skill-up icons now glow to call the player's attention. -The walls on the mini-map are now represented by solid-white blocks instead of wireframe squares. -The hero emits small particles when holding an Angel Feather.

    Dungeon Souls Update #15

    Scope


    Details of this section: [spoiler]This section contains the scope of what patches were made in the current version.[/spoiler] Patch 15 introduces the final boss area where the player will fight with Selene. We've also tweaked arcane forge's user interface and added new features to it.

    Game Elements


    (NEW) Life steal mechanism has changed. It now displays a text informing how much the player has healed with the enemy's damage. Also, life steal will benefit from ALL damage dealt to an enemy, whether it was from the player or not.

    Areas


    (NEW)The End A new area has been added! "The End" is the game's final area and the area where you get to fight Selene, the Dungeon Master. This area is currently a Work In Progress (W.I.P.) and as such, it may have a few bugs and missing art assets. However, it should be playable and enjoyable too! It is still missing final cutscenes, but those will come later ːsteamhappyː Unlike other areas, this area does not randomly generate itself. It is a final challenge for the player and will always have the same shape and monsters in it.

    We've changed the way currency is drawn in the game. Every currency drawn will now have marks seperating each three pairs of digits. For example, the number 123456 will be drawn as 123.456

    Dungeon Souls Update #14.2

    Details of this section: [spoiler]This section contains the scope of what patches were made in the current version.[/spoiler] Path 14.2 holds a few minor improvements to several areas of the game, so that the game is more stable for the upcoming big patch. We've made the tutorial a bit clearer so that players can learn how to play. Although very minor, these changes make the tutorial a bit better. Several bugs were fixed and the Redeemer's behavior has changed to a more aggressive state.

    Dungeon Souls Update #14.1

    Scope

We intend to start making the game less repetitive without changing too much of the core of the game. We'll keep doing these changes and see if you guys like it or not.     Game Elements


    (NEW)Item Stacking Information Added a new mechanism that tells you the amount of stacks that an item has when viewing that item's description. Thanks to Steam user Zior for the suggestion! Using the mouse scroll now cycles between skills, independant of their position. We'll be also trying to implement this for controllers as well (without forgetting the quick-casting) and also create an option to enable/disable this behaviour. Thanks to Steam users QwiK and Zior for the suggestion! Spike Traps Spikes traps now have a delayed activation speed when near other spike traps. (NEW)Notification System Added a notification system where the player can get notified of certain events. For example, whenever you unlock a character, you'll get a notification of that event! Fire Traps Now only fire when the player is within range (i.e.: when they appear on the player's screen). Game Resolution Changed from full scaling back to aspect ratio. Marks Now marks spawn random sets of monsters instead of a fixed type. For example, a mark can now spawn 6 bats and 2 ghosts when activated, instead of 8 bats. We're doing this to change a bit of the "repetitiveness" of the game. Hopefully, this list gets shorter with each patch :) Known Issues -Due to the way the engineer behaves, his spider are dealing more damage than anticipated (each spider is dealing the displayed tooltip damage). We'll try to balance this issue out. -The strange tree on the ice level seems to be blocking some players' path. We'll attempt to fix this issue as fast as possible. -You can bind the same keyboard key to two or more controls. We'll make it so this is not possible. -Some dungeons can spawn without any marks. We have special plans for this situation ;) -A new mechanic to cap the movement speed of heroes is needed, due to some of them still going sonic-like when using certain movement speed objects. -The game has performance issues on some areas.

    Dungeon Souls Update #14

    Scope

Merlin's side story is completed, which explains the main story as well. Also, a few bug fixes were applied. Fullscreen has been supported without the black bars (sacrificing aspect ratio).

    Game Elements


    General


    Removed Gigantulum Slime's audio files. Soon, voice lines will be changed and new voice acting will be introduced. More metalic props now drop metal scrap. BEGONE BLACK BARS: Now the game fits the whole window. As such, the game does not respect aspect ratio (meaning if you have a really broad resolution, sprites may look stretched). SHIELDS!: The game now possess a shield mechanic. The shield acts like extra health points that do not normally regenerate and that do not have a limit. NOW 10% EASIER!: Easy mode now spawns the player with a shield that has 20 hit points. ITEM AUTO-PICK: Now responds faster to items, picking them at a faster pace.

Arcane forge's item indexing has been replaced and has new recipes. You can now also grind for materials more easilly. The overvall difficulty was increased with each loop, however and some balancing changes were added. New story elements were added.

    Game Elements


    Save File


    WARNING! READ CAREFULLY: Because of the way art assets are handled in the game engine, the indexing in arcane forge was going off (resulting in some corrupt weapons). To fix this, we changed the indexing of arcane forge, but as a result, we had to clear the its weapons and items, so you will lose all crafted weapons. We're truly sorry for any incovenience that this might cause. You should receive a message when starting the game that states it will apply the fix.

    General


    Changed the judgement level's background music. Let's see you cry - Increased the power increase between each loop for enemies by A LOT from difficulty Normal to Nightmare, therefor increasing the difficulty between each loop. Gimme That Sweet Loot! - Some props now have a chance to drop materials when destroyed. Move Please - Game window now has borders so that you can relocate the game window. Are you sure? - Quick Restart now asks for confirmation before quick-restarting. Are you sure? - Returning to the Main Menu now asks for confirmation before returning.

    Stats


    Renamed the stat SPD(speed) to MSP(movement speed), for clarification purposes. Thanks to Steam user Ninby for the suggestion!

    Heroes


    -Theif: Invisibility -Attacking during stealth now reduces the stealth duration by 0.5 with each attack. This change makes it so that the thief cannot perma-stealth throughout the runs. -Brawler: Spinning Death -Now grants 30 defense instead of invulnerability; -Duration increases by 1 per 3 levels. -Skill's cooldown now starts at the end of cast. Duelist's visual re-made. -Cleric: Gate -Fixed a bug where the cooldown of the non-neophyte cleric was higher than intended.

    WARNING! READ CAREFULLY: Because of the addition of the new heroes, the save-file configuration had to be replaced. However, an update-mechanism was added. This mechanism should automatically detect that your save file is an older version (if it is the case) and update it, without resetting any progress. A message should appear saying that the save file was updated. IF the message does not appear, either you are playing a fresh version of the game, or your save file might be corrupted.

    Update #12.7.2 - Quick Fix for Update 12.7.1

    Details of this section: [spoiler]This section contains the scope of what patches were made in the current version.[/spoiler] This patch (12.7.2) is a hotfix for a game-breaking bug in the quick fix 12.7.1. It also forces a hard-reset on the configuration file to ensure that everyone has a clean configuration file to change. We are truly sorry for the incovenience generated and thank you all for the patience you had today.

    Dungeon Souls Update #12.7

    Scope


    Details of this section: [spoiler]This section contains the scope of what patches were made in the current version.[/spoiler] Several changes were made in patch 12.7. We redesigned the controller layout so that the player no longer feels like they are fighting the layout scheme, instead of playing the game. We've also included some more story elements and fixed several bugs, as well as an FPS increase.

    Heroes


    Reduced stat points gained from neophyte progress. Now can only gain up to 2 more stat points. For clarification purposes, the stat point increase is as follows: -If the neophyte level is lower than 2 you gain 1 stat point, elsewise you gain 2. -Per 10 levels, you gain 1 extra stat point. This bonus caps at 2.

    Items


    -Bane Scepter Now gives 3 stat points and 2 skill points in exchange for 25% of maximum hp. -(NEW)Vital Armor When hit, it has a chance of either healing the incoming damage or doubling the incoming damage. Item Class: Cursed -(NEW)Angel Feather Brings you back to life if you die, getting consumed in the process. Item Effect: Revives the player with 30% of maximum hp.     Enemies


    -(NEW)Explosive Slime Acts like a normal slime, having a reddish color with black spots, but when it gets close to the player, it detonates, with a 1.5 second detonation timer, and explodes.     Gamepad Layout


    The previous gamepad layout posed quite a few problems that were creating frustrations when playing the game. The fact that you needed to use the gamepad as a cursor would make most reactions really slow and generally unintuitive. With this layout, we hope that these problems are gone for good! Better Aiming:Now the right stick automatically assigns the direction that the hero's weapon is facing towards. (NEW)Skill Level Up:A new menu was created in order to make it easier for gamepad players to level up their skills (cursor is no longer needed). To cycle between abilities, you can use the right stick. To upgrade an ability, use the accept button. Stat Increase:No longer uses cursor to level up stats. Instead, you can use the right stick to move up and down between stat upgrades. Inventory:You can now use the right stick to check each item's description and effects. Right Stick Lock:When either the skills, stats or inventory menu are opened, the right stick does not let the player aim. This is so that you can interact with the menus without background movement of the camera. (NEW)Skill Menu Button:Added a new configurable button to open/close the skill menu button.

    Extra Notes


    FPS


    The average FPS in-game (meaning, the fps that you have when in the dungeon) has been increased. For a comparison, in the last patch the average fps on the testing computer ranged from 60-90, where in some cases it would go below 60 and in others it would reach 100. Now, it ranges from 80-90 to 100-130, with worst case scenario being 60-70 FPS and best 130-140 FPS. Keep in mind that these are the results obtained on the testing computer and may differ between each computer!

    Details of this section: [spoiler]This section contains the bug fixes that were applied in issues detected in the previous versions.[/spoiler] -Fixed a bug that would cause the necromancer's skeletons to crash the game if certain requirements were meant (Redeemer apologizes for the incovenience!); -Fixed a bug where the Gigantum Slime would appear to teleport/jump in the middle of an attack; -Fixed a bug where some elements in the Slime Dungeon would cause extreme FPS drop; -Skill descriptions now display the improvements per level; -Fixed a bug where melee attacks were not destroying projectiles; -Fixed a bug where the thief's basic attack was not scalling correctly (or at all); -Fixed a bug where the potions in the potion bar were not displaying their correct sprite; -Reduced the sound created by the item 'Battery'; -(NEW): Added a beta mechanism that automatically saves the player's progress when playing in the dungeon. This is so that if there is a crash because of a bug, not all progress is lost. It is not a mechanism that will be present in the final version of the game (at least, it is not planned).

    Dungeon Souls Update #12.4

    This patch fixes small bugs found in patch version 12.3. It also adds a bit of new content! [General] -Fixed a bug that caused the game to give an error when redeemer appeared under certain conditions; -Fixed a bug with the logging system; -Fixed a bug that caused the game to give an error when PWizard was alive under certain conditions; -Fixed an error that occured when the game detected that the player's save file was corrupted, but no back up files are present to revert; -Reduced stat point gain increased from leveling up. Now caps at two, gaining 1 per 10 levels; -Now only basic ranged attacks block enemy projectiles, instead of all kinds of projectiles (such as abilities); [Item Suggestion Thread] A huge thanks to Snorlaxxo for the following item ideas: -[NEW] Item class - Cursed. Cursed items give a massive boost/effect, in trade for a massive downgrade of another stat/effect. They can only be found inside cursed chests. -[NEW] Chest - Cursed Chest. Has 80% chance to spawn a cursed item, with 2% chance of spawning on a dungeon level. [NEW][Amplifying Tome] Description: Makes your damage dealing spells a lot stronger, but highly increases their cooldown. Effect: +200% mixed damage increase on damage dealing spells, +100% cooldown on damage dealing spells. Rarity: Purple (Cursed) [NEW][Scepter of Power] Description: Gives an insane damage boost, but harshly lowers HP. Effect: +200% Mixed damage, -50% MAX HP. These effects are refresh upon stat increase and level up. Rarity: Purple (Cursed) [FUTURE UPDATE] We would like to notify everyone that the next patch will be available by the end of this week.
