Hi all, with this patch, we are introducing procedurally generated AI heroes. We've been working on this feature for some time, and while some mechanics were released earlier, the feature is now fully complete in this version. Hi all, with the recent update, we've introduced an AI-only Pirates faction that will randomly attack your ships. The Pirates are fast units with ranged attacks and are occasionally armed with cannons, making them a challenge even for advanced armies. To balance this, we've also added Merchants who will appear on the seas with precious items. I'm also working on a Sea Storm mechanic, but that feature isn't ready yet. Take care, Les

Hi everyone, with this post, I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! This year has been quite busy for us; we released a new game while working on the upcoming Ratmen campaign. The Age of Fear series was enriched with several new features, such as continuous area effects, burrowing, and a whole new array of spells. We have also added a new mini-boss, Sandworm, and a new minor hero (playable by all factions), Dancer Zarah. Also, yesterday we released a complete pack of voiceovers for the Ratmen campaign. Over the last few months, we have finalized the story and battles for the Ratmen campaign. There is still a lot of polishing to be done; however, the campaign is now playable from start to end. We have also introduced new mechanics, such as end-of-turn auto-invisibility for Ratmen, added a brand-new hero (Zarah, the dancer), and fine-tuned the AI to better utilize stealth. We are also in the process of ordering a voiceover and conducting auditions. We have selected a few options that align with the theme of the game. I kindly ask for your feedback on which one is the most suitable. Hi all, after a bit of waiting we have pushed another update to the Ratmen campaign. Right now, around one-third of content is playable and includes a few interesting additions like stealth missions (where your units need to remain undetected), sewers maze and Sorodon's bazaar (with obligatory drunken dwarves fight!). We have also added a few items which improve the morphed form of heroes, e.g. Spider form of Lexa can be made quite powerful. I hope to add ever more items and work on polymorph mechanics. We also re-numbered all campaigns as chapters so new players aren't confused about the order of campaigns. For modders - we have modified battle tasks and separate conditions can be made mandatory, e.g. it's possible to force players to open certain Treasure Chest. It has been a while since the last update, but now we are back!
In this patch we introduced a new mini-boss - Sandworm! Sandworms are colossal, worm-like creatures that live in the desert. As it tunnels through the sandy dunes of the desert, the sandworm leaves a trail of destruction in its wake.
This mini-boss will be unlocked as the game progresses and has quite a few interestingproperties, e.g. it stays burrowed and can swallow your units in one turn. There are a few possible strategies to defeat it, but I leave it for you to discover.
Btw, Sandworm will be playable as a separate hero in the coming release of a new additionto the series. We are almost finished with the build and hopefullywe will be able to push it out tonight or during the weekend.

Hi all, over the last few weeks we were working on customisations required to play the series on Steam Deck.
You must have noticed after this patch are larger fonts, buttons and other interactive elements. Larger UI is necessary for much smaller screens; however, we hope to strike the right balance between desktop and console UI. Other changes are activated only in Steam Desk mode and include sensitivity settings to select units and zones (my thick fingers...) and a whole new way to show help and tooltips (by long-press).
While at it we have also fixed a number of issues and back-implemented a few pending mechanics:
Happy New Year to you all! That was quite a year, both personally and also in series development. We have made many fixes and patches, and also added a few great additions like pushing mechanics, illusions, AI heroes, taunts, light sources, just to name a few. Our to-do list is still quite long and we still have many awesome featuresto implement.
We have also made good progress on the next game in the series with a completely new Ratmen faction. I am also about to upload a new trailer (hopefullyyou can watch it now). If it all goes well, we should be able to release it in 2023.

Hi everyone! Recently we have been focused on improving stealthmechanics and also adding better support for items in our series. First of all, some of you have played games with items enabled on all units and you might have noticed additional attributeslike Armour Proficiency, Mage Master, etc. added to those units. That shouldhelp with better immersionand make your allies more interesting to equip. Secondly, we have introduced the Light Sources trait on some unitsand static objects. Night battles have now a few fire stands placed which makes sneaking aroundmuchmore difficult. Thirdly, the Forest faction has a new unit - Dryad Blade Dancer which is a low health melee unit, but with powerful attacks and Projectiles Reflection. The skill is still a bit experimental, but it adds another decision layer - will you take a risk of an arrow being reflected onto your archers? As usual - all feedback and bugreports are welcome! Hi all, recently we have been working on making our games launch on Steam Deck and we have first results:

It required re-implementing substantialportion of our graphics rendering engine and we still have a few edges to smooth out. Aside from that, Steam Deck is quite flexible in terms of controls and our game can use both touchpads as well as the main touchscreen.

Hi all, we have just patched our games again, this time with a number of additional units, improved skills and enhancedtraits system. We continue to work on new faction (Ratmen) and also on its unique Stealth mechanics. First of all - new units:
I think everyone knows what's going on in Ukraine at the moment. Ukraine was attacked by its neighbouring country with an overwhelming military power. There is no place for tanks and artillery strikes on civilians in the 21st century. I don't know the details of the problems there; however, there is absolutely no excuse for such brutality like it's taking place now. Those differences should be resolved at negotiating table instead of invading the whole country and then threating the whole world with nukes. The Age of Fear team is completely anti-war and against any violence. However, we want to make people more aware what's going on. You will be surprised how much disinformation is around - please use real news channels to see what's going on. As such, we substantially lowered the prices for the Age of Fear series for anyone in Ukraine (this is not a promotion - I would give away our games for free, but Steam doesn't have an option to make games free for just one region). Hi all, the last couple of weeks were busy as we were finalisingthe Ambush feature for the Age of Fear series. This is the part of wider Stealth mechanics and will be ready for the next game in the series. To accommodatenew logic, we had to refactor huge amounts of code and, among other things, we managed to cross a few things from our todo list, i.e. enhancements to traits system, deploy-turn actions and random generation of maps. Let's start with the traits system. The common requestwas to give an option to remove unwanted traits - to address that we expanded the Mutagen potion functionality and, while it is still accelerating traits, it can be also used to remove them (from the Skills menu in the Recruitment screen). The Mutagen potion is also classified as a rare item now, therefore it should be more common as a loot in battles. We have added a new class of actions which can be executed during Deploy Turn, e.g. Sea Witch can now invoke Rain or Wind, and JuggernautGolem can invoke Earthquake. However, those skills come with a twist - instead of a mild battle disturbance, the much more nastly version can be invoked! For example, calling an Earthquake can result in a Volcano eruption! This logic will be extended in future patches. A logic responsiblefor random objects placements was improved and morefair use of objects was introduced, e.g. previously there were almost three Crates spawn per battle, now it's only one and a bit, and barrels, anvils, tables, etc. are created instead. This is quite a sizable patch and I hope everything works fine. As usual - all feedback is welcome. Take care, Les & AOF Team
Hi all! I hope you enjoy ongoing Lunar Sales and find many interesting games. Meanwhile, we are working hard on adding a few specific mechanics related to Stealth.
As a side-product of experimenting with the Ambush feature (in which invisible units can surprise enemy groups) we created yet another stealth-specific skill - Illusions. A spellcaster can create multiple copies of itself and those copies can move and attack (but won't cause any damage) as normal units. Now the guess-game begins...
On another note - we soon plan to increase prices of some of our games. The main reason being record-breaking inflation and, as such, rising costs of development and assets. I sincerelydon't know how much we will push our prices up, but we will try to keep it to a minimum.

HI all, I thoughtI would share an interesting feature we came up with (and finished implementing this week) - burrowing. This mechanic is part of a wider rehaul of invisibility and stealth we are currentlyworking for. It allows for units to hide on the path of enemies, wait till they pass and backstab them from behind. Only for Ratmen ^^

Hi all, over the last few days we have been thinking howelsecan we build on recently released Invisibility mechanics. Aside from AI fixes, we have run an interesting experiment- how about hiddensnipers laying down the fire on unexpected enemy troops?
Well, it came out pretty well! Here we present you new Sniper Pistol (which can be found during campaign):
Equip it and your hero changes into a deadly sniper! The long range and huge damage are obvious perks; however, this weapon can be fired from concealment too! Fire and move, fire and move.
Following this pattern, we have also updated a few common units like Ranger, Dryad Huntress and Goblin Assassin. More will come soon!
It's still untested feature, therefore please excuse us for occassional bugs especially on AI side :)

Hi all, after the recent very successful release we have immediately started working on yet another faction for the series:
Our current design idea is to build this faction on newly introduced Invisibility where . We are aiming to create ninja-like unitswhich can easily sneak on opponents and use their backstab attacks.
As with other factions, Ratmen will have their unique skills and abilities, roughly based on deception.
That's for now, I am sorry I could not add any details, but we only started designing this faction. As usual, all suggestions are warmlywelcomed!

Together with invisibility we are also introducing traps, which can be placed and will trigger their effects onto unaware trespassers. Oh, the AI can do it too. We have made a good progress with crafting (as you can see below). All items have been grouped into themes, e.g. Chaos, Alchemy, Knight, etc. Crafting one item from one group has a chance to let you learn anotheritem from its theme group.
There are over forty resource items which are gathered after battles. The available resource types depend on environmentand also ondefeated enemies.
The crafting will be released together with the next game in the series. We hope to release in April 2021.

Hi everyone, with the Covid-19 pandemic almost over (I hope!) I thought we would like to share our progress in the next game in the Age of Fear series.
Our testers finished the first playthrough, finding a number of bugs and other issues that we will be working on. We've also started working on the trailer, which you can see several screenshots in this post.
In addition to a completely new story and factions, the main additions to the series (in terms of new features) will be the crafting system and invisibility. We also add many other related mechanics, such as traps, weather-changing spells, and a whole set of 'detector' skills (as a counter for hidden units),. We're still on track to release in 2020 (but that's not a promise!).

The main hero of the campaign is Angela - the daughter of a former hunter known from the Blood and Moon expansion. She will set out on an expedition to solve the murders of underground crime lords. Hi everyone, I would like to update you about the progress we are making in Age of Fear 4: The Iron Killer. I'm sure some of you have already scanned the game files and discovered parts of the story. For those who did not, Angela (known from the Blood and Moon expansion) will appear in the next game in this series as the adult and ass-kicking Vampire Hunter hero. She will join forces with Sea People (new faction) and, as usual, save the kingdom from demise. Of course, the Age of Fear series' stories are never that simple and expect a couple of twists. Hi everyone, I thought you would be interested in the latest discovery about the composition of the universe. In short, the best physical models of the Universe can explain only about 5% of its total mass. The remaining 95% consists of unknown matters / effects called Dark Matter and Dark Energy. These substances are called 'dark' because of their weak interactions with electromagnetic forces (i.e. light), and we can detect them only by their gravitational influence. We do not know yet what these effects are, and there are many theories aiming to explain it. In December 2018, Dr. Jamie Farnes published an article entitled 'A unifying theory of dark energy and dark matter: Negative masses and matter creation within a modified CDM framework', in which he proposes that dark matter should be negative mass matter: https://www.aanda.org/component/article?access=doi&doi=10.1051/0004-6361/201832898 Okay, what's so great about this theory? It can be said that this is another mathematical hocus-pocus, which is nothing more than a paper exercise. Both mods already have pretty good descriptions, thus I will copy the most relevant bits: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1765826932 The Swarm is a quantity-based faction; They have a large team size and about 3 unique units can summon minions. Most of them boast high offensive power and speed allowing you to quickly overwhelm your enemies coupled with the fore mentioned team size. Their main drawback is that the faction lack supportive abilities and many of the units aren't very versatile due to being focused on melee offence, thus can easily be destroyed when it comes to survival or stalling. An interesting trivia (from Dante: calling the shop "The Glass Pumpkin", calling the witch variant "Deneb Witch" and the "pumpkin" and "halloween" are all reference to the first tactical game I played - Ogre Battle for the old 16 bit SNES. A glass pumpkin was an item that let Witch recruit pumpkin units. Witches in that game put enemies too sleep basically with their "stun" effect that being why the witch there has a Sleep spell.

Hi all, in the past few weeks we released a number of patches, fixes and other enhancements. However, while we are quite good at fixing, we are also quite bad at posting what exactly is being altered. I went through all our code modifications and here is a list:
Hi everyone! After the release of Age of Fear: The Undead King Gold, we were finally able to sit down and finally bring the last remaining Forest faction to Age of Fear: The Free World.
To better balance the Forest Folk faction (and fill the gaps in their strategy), we added two additional units - War Unicorn and Fairy:
The War Unicorn is the upgrade of the well-known Unicorn and adds the Charge ability that makes it similar to a Knight - we have balanced this unit to be the best cavalry unit for the Forest Folk. The second addition to the Forest Folk arsenal is the Fairy, who is an early support unit, able to raise other magic points of spelcasters (later also using Aura Magic Regeneration!).
That's why the Forst Folk faction has an interesting dynamic - you have to decide which path to follow: will you depend on Evil Driders or Holy Unicorns and Fairy tandem? There are significant differences between the two and I'm really interested in how this will pan out ^^

I'm really sorry that we have not added these units before. Fortunately, the artists could quickly come back with sprites and we created those short-range/melee warriors (we will also add pirate voices in a few days).

Battles on the world map will have difficulty index (from one to five skulls). There is a rather complex logic when the engine assesses how your team will cope with enemy:
The Pirates! DLC has been extended for an additional content. We are also collecting assets for pirate units. They should be done within a few days, and then we will add them to the next patch.
A few more traits were added: Fatso, Puppet Master, Corrupted, Greed, Savage and Saint (those traits are given based on your units' actions):

The Age of Fear series was designed with flexibility in mind. Almost all features you see in game can be modded, for example units' graphics and stats, Global Events, battles, and so on. We also provide our own scripting engine (based on Java-Script) which can be used for conditions or triggering game logic.
If you are willing, you can create your own campaign like the ones found in mainstream games from the series!
The engine is quite complex, therefore we did our best to provide exhaustive Modding Guide (available from Workshop Manager / Guide).

recently we have been working on expanding the World Map in the Age of Fear series. What we came up with can be found below:
The World Map is to be expanded by roughly 30% in each direction which leads to about 80% of additional area! Of course, more locations and side-quests will be added too in due time.
We would like to ask for your help with shaping the geographical features of the land. The South, South-East and East areas are to be populated. We don't want to add new elements to already existing areas (within red rectangle) as those locations are used within existing campaigns.
If you want to take part in this worlds expansion, please describe features like cities, ruins, towers, mines, etc. (or provide a reference photo!) which you want to see in game. You can also give a link to any modifications you would have made directly on the World Map image itself.

Hi there,
During the last three years, the world of the Age of Fear series has been significantly expanded. We started with the environments like forest, swamp and plains, and then we added caves, dungeons, cities, volcanos, magical dimensions, icelands, and so on. Now it's time to add another environment - Desert.
We already have a dozen desert maps and a few others are in progress (with their own soundtracks). These maps contain their own, distinctive features and unique beasts. We are also working on specific mechanisms for this environment.

The last challenge (here) was some time ago and it's time for a new one! The prizes are the same as last time - the winners get Steam keys for all our released games.
This time let the poor Goblins prove their usefulness!
The rules are as follows:
Deep within the mountains lives the Dwarf King. He is as rich as old. He got minted of the labour of other Dwarves and of speculation on the Kingdoms Stock Market You all know the story of the last CGO (Collateralised Gold Obligations) crisis.
Alright, the next faction comes to the Age of Fear: The Free World. Dwarves are probably the most powerful individual units in game, moreover they can complement their forces with Constructs (Canons included!). They are also slower than other factions and their numbers are more limited. And, of course, no magic! (unless you capture a spellcaster)
I would also like point to coming release of the Age of Fear: The Undead GOLD which is planned for early June. The Undead King Gold is a greatly expanded version of the series' very first entry, a game originally released seven years ago. This project aims to bring Age of Fear series into Open World theme! The work has entered the Beta-test phase and we plan a release for early June 2019.

One major change in this series of patches is more love for Greenskins faction! After 72 emails (I kid you not!) exchanged with Werdi-eh wherein we discussed Greenskins, we are implementing a number of buffs for those savages.
The key challenge with this faction is that it dies a lot from ranged attacks. However, thats Greenskins' charm and changing that, for example by adding more powerful ranged units, will make them less unique. Therefore, we went into a different direction and improved them strategically so they can cope with losses easier. More balance tweaks for Greenskins will follow.

With this update we are introducing two of the most-awaited features, namely - Beastmaster who can tame wild animals and Chaos Demon faction!
Chaos Demons are known from Age of Fear 2 where a sexy succubus is doing everything in her power to escape her Underworlds masters. Then she meets a handsome knight Percival The story is quite pleasing and has a surprising twist, but, like (almost) all stories in the Age of Fear series, ends well.

Chaos Demons make up quite a strange faction which heavily relies on powerful Summoners and Chaos magic. The majority of its units are Fire-resistant and Evil-bound (as you will expect from Demons!), as such, you will need to find innovative ways to mix other factions units to this army. Chaos Demons also offer a number of very-Demonic skills such as Sacrifice, Domination and Unholy Strength spells as well as their own collection of specialized items.

Hello everyone,
A week ago we have pressed the 'Release' button and impatiently waited for first feedback. How will players receive it? Are there any game-breaking bugs? Argh, I forgot to debug this line in code!
Today I can summarise it in one sentence:
"WHAT AN AWESOME WEEK!"
Age of Fear: The Free World has overrun all our estimations! The game has been downloaded 10,000 times and, at this moment, there are 100+ concurrent players. Age of Fear: The Free World is also listed in Popular New Releases!
There were few minor bugs, hopefully all are fixed. The most amusing mistake was the popularity of Monk over Black Knight hero :) It was later found to be a bug with hero upgrading and, since then, the Black Knight has climbed to a respectable 4th place (Monk stayed at the bottom).
The reviews are very positive (90% score!) and also full of helpful suggestions. The re-occurring note is great depth and complexity of the series and that's a signal we have to develop even more comprehensive Strategy Guide and in-game tutorial.

The shocking success of this release also put us in the spotlight. With such a player base we need to carefully balance features and improvements.
I would like to re-iterate the things we are working on now:

Early 2018 few players asked why Age of Fear had no guide or some wiki. I agreed with them - Age of Fear series has grown into a complex creation with multiple intertwined subsystems (that's why we are always careful with introducing new features).
However, thanks to Dark Schneider, we have put together the Age of Fear Strategy Guide!

It's only about half of the planned content - we have covered the three original factions, namely Human Kingdom, Greenskins Horde and Undead Legion. The guide also contains notes about mixing factions - this feature is often mentioned on forums, thus we decided to give it more attention.
The three other factions: Dwarves, Forest Folk and Chaos Demons are in progress and we will update the Guide once they are done.

For this year we have a few planned releases, starting with Age of Fear: The Free World (COMPLETELY FREE!!) on 18th January and then the things will go even more awesome when we release Age of Fear: The Undead King Gold around June/July! To make things even more spicy, we possibly have another (secret) project which we might push out too in 2019! However, the exact date is not yet confirmed. 2018 has brought many improvements like Relics, Potions, units' alignments, greatly enhanced battle terrains (thanks Willsama!), new locations and the whole batch of new spells and skills (e.g. Totems, Decay, Dominate) among others. We also started Twitter channel (see links below). We don't plan to remain idle and here is a list of other works and major improvements we are planning to release in 2019/2020 (in order of planned releases):

I have a clear idea of full story, choices, branches, endings so it's just a matter of scripting and translating (a long long way), Warning : For the moment these mods are exclusive, I will merge them in a unique mod when my campaign will be complete. If anyone play/testing any Age of Fear game and feels like there are missing decorations or odd stuff on campaign maps, please share your views so we can try to add objects or just give a more themed feel to said map.
The idea is to remove any feeling of "blend/empty" map so that every battle is also like a trip to an actual different area in the game world.

Hi all!
There is an interesting mechanic we are working on now - Invisibility. Units can become completely unseen and as such won't be drawn for other players (AI included). You can imagine what tactical possibilities that new skill will open.
This feature also requires a substantial AI refactoring. CPU player will be able to sneak on player, position its units and execute coordinated attacks from all directions!
This feature is complex to implement but will fit very well in the two next games we're working on: AOF4 and [secret title here].

The above screenshot is a campaign selection for the new game Age of Fear: Free World. It's AOF engine plus World Map and special locations in which you select a hero and play random battles and visit random shops. There are quite a interesting heroes to select from such as Troll or Monk!
It has been designed as a introduction to AOF series before you jump into main story. It's also less rigid as main series and allows to explore the world.
We are currently working on Steam page, video and polishing the whole thing.

Hi everyone,
I am so happy that we finally got this feature working!! In brief, during campaign you can also pickup randomised battles (with all factions) and earn some experience or capture enemy units! :)
The game makes sure there are always 4-6 battles.
NOTE: this is rather heavy patch (additional 1.9GB). So sorry for that, it's mostly new graphics and it's once-only.
NOTE 2: sometimes random battle generator is slow when generating battle. Sorry for that - some code needs to be optimised more and I am working on that. FIXED.

The idea is that player will be able to upgrade its base during campaign and get different types of units from there. That should fit nicely with Open World battles we are currently working on as well.

After you finish campaign you will be taken back to World Map where you can finish all remaining quests. However, this is only an early patch - this feature will really shine once Open World battles are ready!

As many of you must have heard by now, Stephen Hawking, the author of 'A Brief History of Time' died yesterday, aged 76 yrs.
He participated in many cosmology-related project such as Breakthrough Starshot; however, his greatest revelation was that the universe began in a singularity, an infinitely dense point of spacetime (also known as The Big Bang Theory).
Thanks to guys like Stephen Hawking we might one day settle in space.

Surprisingly, AOF's AI has similar but flatter structure with stateful entities 'tactics' (called 'AI projects' in AOF). Maybe one day I will explain in details how our stuff works and how it evolved.

Surprisingly, while strategy games are one of the oldest of video games, the UI patterns are not that settled yet. Compare that to FPS games, where GUI is pretty much variation of the same design (that probably will make some FPS players angry! lol). If you don't own IP or license states some constraints, just don't use it. It doesn't matter how long license is for, be it 2, 5 or 10 years. You definitely want to keep improving and selling your game after that period. The best option is if you (or your team) can produce all assets yourself. However, definitely don't count on IP-owner's goodwill (not always creators!). This is business and they will bleed you dry given a chance. I hope they will restore Alan Wake soon, Les

Age of Fear engine is very flexible, but it’s not so straight-forward to mod. We have created a pdf guide (available via Workshop Manager), but it does not explain all tips and tricks. I guess it will be much easier to analyse what we have already to see what’s available
- 4 campaigns (soon two more) plus 180+ units is a substantial sample.
Modding definitely requires some basic IT skills like editing xml files and understanding of basic scripting patterns. Some bits like easy, like units’ stats and attributes. Some bits are medium-difficulty, like campaign flow logic. And some are definitely hard and require some work, such as creating new battles (editing existing ones is way more doable).
Ask any questions on forum - I will answer the best I can. Please write some feedback - we will improve Workshop Manager in future. Also, I will prepare a sample mod.

Hi all, We are pretty much busy with work on AOF3, therefore I thought I will ask for help. We will need a person (or few) who can create some dialogues for us. By a dialog I understand something like this: Kara: Percival, don't disturb those hornets. Hornets: Bzzzzz bzzzz.... Kara: Gosh! A, why you have to be so dumb? Is that your helmet that absorbed your mind? Kara: Come here, take it off! There are 4 campaigns in total, each 15-20 levels. We require about ca. 10 medium-size opening dialogues (4-8 lines) and about 25 (2-5 lines) situational dialogues for each campaign. That makes ca. (10+25) x 4 = 140 dialogues total. Requirements: - you own AOF1 and 2 and have finished them and understand AOF world - you have a good English and some sense of fantasy humour - you will finish job within 2-3 months Please mail me at: support@age-of-fear.net and we can discuss in more details. Sid mentions a lot about 'winning mentality' of player, i.e. games are expected to be won all the time :-) It confirms my experiences - the first released version of AOF was hard. Not deadly hard, but it was challenging (something like Deathseeker now). Backslash that followed made us to release a patch with various levels of difficulty and greatly tone down the default difficulty. I especially loved the last 15 min of video (public questions), when some developer asked about their game where they try to convince player that losing is ok. With Despair Attack you might target specific enemy’s morale itself. There will be a few more AOF3 features like Nightmares spell and Bone Catapult that will affect morale as well.

Hi all, Over weekend I was tinkering a bit around potions design. It looks like this so far: - potions are being sold as items in items shop - every unit can hold one potion only (also non-heroes!) - potions are single-use, but their effect in immediate - potions can be used without losing turn (it means you can drink potion and still attack) - potions are expensive So far there are four potions: - Life Potion/Vial of Blood (for Undead) +2 hp - Antidote Potion removes poison and disease, cheap - Magic Potion +3 mp, expensive - Strength Potion +2 Attack for few turns Potion's design should force them to be used sparingly. It will change dynamics a bit, but it should not require any major re-balancing. As always - we are open for suggestions. What do you think? Les

- new achievement: Good Shave (own and equip Razor Edge blade)
- update: items that were giving +1 damage are giving DoubleDamage attribute instead and damage bonus does not stack. This is to balance items sets such as amulet of destruction + berserker (double attack) + executor sword.
We have finally implemented Items Shop - a long awaited feature. During campaign you can access 80+ unique items and your really pimp up/modify your hero!
This feature might still lack polish, thus please leave any suggestions in our forum :-)
We are also running AOF2 sales this week, thus please spread news - maybe any of your friends wants to play good turn-based strategy?

That should allow us to use more memory (up to 2GB) on 64-bit (85% of users), while still making game playable on 32-bit (up to 1GB) systems. - update: full screen is on by default - update: better selection of available display mode - update: 17-pages battle tutorial not displayed automatically (it's still available from Help menu) - update: 3-pages shop tutorial not displayed automatically (it's still available from Help menu) - balance: chain spells can hit up to 5 enemies - bugfix: hypnotised units were not carried over - bugfix: some attributes were not expired correctly after won battle - bugfix: duplicated display modes on selection dialog You might have noticed our Steam page changed a bit - there is a new Feature List section and we added some new graphics. It should help fixing performance issues - new: everything on battle level is generated to texture and cached (yes - even buttons!) - that should give a huge performance boost and more stable frame rate - new: more low-latency (i.e. high responsiveness) optimisations in code and in Java startup arguments - new: Menu appears immediately (before it was waiting till current animation is finished) - new: Finger Of Death spell for Undead King - that should make the last battles in AOF harder - new: Plague Zombie - suicide variation of Zombie (splashes acid) - new: Black Giant Spider - fast spider with multiple attacks - new: Battle Animated Armor - upgrade for Animated Armor - update: chain-spells will target only first Passive unit. Hi all, Another bunch of performance-related updates: - new: shadow borders drawing routines updated to be fully hardware-accelerated (i.e. generate texture) - new: expiring images cache - sometimes after playing several battles in a row cache wasn't cleared. The result could be unresponsive GUI. This should have fixed that Also, Steam became quite toxic in the recent years. Hi all, Another patch with lots of ground work around passive objects (those will come in AOF3!): - new: few new item (Magical Hourglass, Witch Cauldron, etc.) - new: passive units - they can be angered to go postal and fight all around. AI can do it too as a part of its battle plan (!) You will see more of them in AOF3, then probably we will back-port them to AOF1&2. - update: standardised skills/spells descriptions, e.g. unblockable skills will always have 'unblockable' in description - update: AI will pull farther units for teleportation (not just standing close) - update: unit focus marker has standardised colour across all units - update: few remaining drawing routines optimised to render to textures - bugfix: few AI routines were calculating treasure chests as enemies Also, we have replaced several unit’s background images - background might be empty for first time you load old save game. Hi all, Last release has broken multiplayer mode - so sorry for that :-( We were planning to release it before weekend, but it seems some players are very interested in multiplayer. Hi all, Yesterday I have spend ca. 5 hrs implementing new spell - Chain Lightning, which will help to make Greenskins more interesting (it's a offensive spell for Warlock). To support reduction in attack and damage at every lightning hop, a large portion of code had to be refactored. Nevertheless, I did it :-) However, in the morning I saw sales chart again and that make me fell very sad... You see - over the last couple of weeks, most of players got their AoF Steam key in a way that made 3rd party profit, making money on me and my team back. I will give you bare facts: - Over last couple of weeks, about 70-80% of Age of Fear games were purchased via G2A for 1-2 USD. We can't really compete with that price unless we do cheap stuff like puzzles. - When you purchase AoF key on G2A, we get absolutely zero money from that transaction. Moreover, we are losing sales here on Steam! - Those keys come from 2-years old bundles. Please don't try to convince me that few thousands people have just found found AoF in their old bundles. - G2A is not authorised seller of Steam keys and those sales are illegal (re-selling Steam keys is illegal). Unfortunately, we practically cannot do anything about it aside of suing G2A (which costs money and takes time!). - Sending take-down notices to G2A is utterly pointless. They either don't reply at all or make us to waste lot of time proving that key is illegal. Even if they take game listing down, few days after new one appears. - I have tried to undercut current sellers from G2A by providing super-cheap keys there, but G2A-ranking system prioritizes 100k+ sellers (I wonder where they get all those super-cheap keys from...) - G2A is very parasitic company. There are many indie developers affected. Hi all, A medium-size update: - new: enabled terrain animations by default - new: background animation is stopped when scrolling (that should help with choppy dragging) - new: AI is waiting till animation is running - it has been added as experimental feature (disabled by default) - new: poison vulnerability - double damage from poison - balance: capture soul/improved soul capture gives +1 MP and 10-15 exp - balance: enhanced/magical weapon/armor upgrades are available at Regular/Veteran levels I think we finally got background animations right and they should work much more smoothly. Over last few weeks we have been progressing with Age of Fear 3: The Legends. There is still lots to do, but I can share what is currently done and what is still in progress:
- As in AOF1 and AOF2, there will be two campaigns: Dwarves and Forest (so-called monsters-campaign - it's not that simple as you think!)
- Generally there is about 30% more content (battles + story) for each campaign in comparison to AOF1/AOF2. We will also have very nice story illustrations for both campaigns.
- There are more RPG elements (advancing your heroes and collecting items) but at the same time there is still very strong tactical element - heroes are not invincible and troops cooperation is essential
- Capturing enemy units seems to be quite fun, thus we added those mechanics to Forest campaign. It's quite balance-challenge and I am very interested how it would play out
- Dwarves campaign is 80% done and it is in playable state (it is currently beta-tested). We still need to balance it more as well as polish story.
- Forest campaign is 50% done, but it's still not it playable state. Levels' graphics have been done, but we are still writing story and placing units.
- There are about 50 new units in various stages of done (portrait, voices, sprites, skills etc.). They still need to be balanced for both single- and multi-player.
- Aside from game there are various activities that needs to be done: setting up Steam page, introduction video, etc.
Looking as speed of progress we should be able to release sometime in late 2017 (but it's not a promise!).

This is HUGE upgrade - additional 992 MB (!) of graphics has been added, making game so much nicer looking.
Over last few months, our graphics expert has been very hard on those...

Hi all, A couple of fixes before weekend: - Demon has been weakened and its summoning cost increased to balance summoners (too effective in campaign) - Goblin Sapper is reusable now (goblin is replaced with identical unit, but only if it self-detonated) - Physical Resistance does not protect against elemental (fire, cold, poison/acid, lighting) and magical attacks. Therefore, golems are no longer all-resistant tanks - I think we finally made it right. Have fun, Les
Hi All, We have almost finished redrawing all terrains for Age of Fear: The Undead King! In next week we hope to release HD version of game. Existing players will be updated automatically, however we will probably have to increase price of existing game (to recover costs of new art) for any new players. Hi all, This is a small path before weekend. We are fixing minor bugs and replacing few icons. However, we have added an experimental feature "Battle Exhaustion" (available in Misc tab in Options). Enabling it will cause units to temporary lose Defence as they are getting attacked, thus focusing attacks on one enemy is more efficient. By default feature is disabled as it might de-balance game a bit. Have a nice weekend! Les
Hi all, We have received few reports about choppy animations in last patch. We could not recreate issue, however it looks like memory management could be the problem - our AI is quite computations-heavy and also memory-hungry. This patch introduces parallel memory collection, i.e. concurrent mark sweep. Memory can be freed on the fly while AI is computing. Aside from fancy name it hopefully should stop animations to be choppy while memory is collected. Please let me know if that helps. Les
Hi all, This is a major update with one huge feature: - Deploy Turn - a long awaited functionality is finally there. It took us few weeks to hack code and get it working. Upon start of majority of battles you can reposition your units as much as you want. - We have also added a couple of new items: master assassin dagger, hellish candle, dragon teeth and protector shield. Surely there are some bugs related to Deploy Turn feature and I would ask you notify us (on forum or here) if you see something. Also, initial area where units can be placed has been generated automatically and might not be the best selection - please write which levels need to be improved. All of best, Les
Hi all, Initial feedback about random item drops seem to be positive! However, there seems to be some issues on repetively appearing items (especially necromancer's route in Age of Fear: Undead King) This is small update, adding several new items: several common weapons (daggers, swords, 2-handed swords, axes, maces, etc), dark dagger, acid sword, warhammers, couple of shields and trinkets. Hi all, Recently we have been working on game re-playability and in this release we introduce one of those features. Several chests across all levels have now random items and hopefully every play through will be unique. Type of item depends on hero and its level. We have introduced many new items: Warhorn, Great Sword, Ring of Anti-Magic, Fire Wand, Dragon Slayer, Berserker Armour, Ring of Ambush, Blessing Ring, etc. It's still a little bit experimental - have fun and please let me know how does it work for you!
