2 NEW GUNS, 2 NEW ABILITIES and NEW MAP

Hey all, this is a super massive update I put together over the past week as a thank you to you guys for sticking around through the lack of updates in my exam.

This update was released in two parts (but I'm writing this announcement now) so you may have already noticed some of the changes!

[h3]City Ruins Map[/h3]
Introducing a new Point Capture map!



Fight building to building on the most vertical map yet! Its based on the apocalyptic decaying ruins of a metropolis.

[h3]Map improvements[/h3]





Improved all of the existing maps with some new stunning vegetation, flowers and bushes :)

[h2]WEAPONS[/h2]
[h3]Flare Gun[/h3]

Introducing the flare gun, a very powerful secondary explosive gun


  • It has a slightly smaller blast radius than the launcher, but sets enemies on fire and has a faster fire rate
  • It's also useful for grenade jumping! Shoot at your feet to get launched up, or jump and shoot at a wall to get launched sideways.





[h3]Black Hole Gun[/h3]


  • The black hole gun is also an explosive gun, but works pretty differently to the other explosives in the game
  • Left click to fire a black hole, and right click after you've thrown it to freeze it wherever it is
  • From there it will suck in and trap enemies. It can be escaped by running if you're not too close or grapple/dash
  • After 5 seconds it explodes killing everyone in its radius, but be careful as it works on you too!
  • Useful for protecting flags, bases or areas


[h3]Gun Reworks[/h3]
Banana Gun

  • You can now right click to rapid fire the banana gun (it's a lot less accurate at long range though

Freeze Gun

  • Fixed a bug that caused the recoil to go crazy and make it un usable

Burst

  • No more camera shake/recoil on this gun either

Mine launcher

  • Now deals 2X more damage

[h3]Voodoo Doll[/h3]

This is an always active ability. When you are damaged, your opponent takes 22% of the damage they deal to you, which lends you the advantage in every gun fight :)

[h3]Ammo Kit[/h3]

This ability works super similarly to the med-kit in that it's excellent in both free for all and team modes (and in fact you can equip both the med kit and ammo kit!).

  • All allied players within its radius are granted a massive 1.5X fire rate and reload speed boost




[h2]NEW RANKING[/h2]
You'll now rank faster because only a small proportion of players get to the final ranks and experience everything the game has to offer.
There's now 20 ranks instead of 15 (with less XP per rank). - Your rank may change/increase this update based on the total amount of XP you have.

[h2]Other[/h2]

  • New winter menu and music
  • New directional walk animations
  • Improved Russian, Spanish and Portuguese translations significantly


[h2]Bugs and polish[/h2]

  • Strengthened the anti cheat measures
  • Coop minigame renamed to co-op for clarity
  • Added a tutorial for buying/equipping abilities
  • Fixed a bug where every ability was unlocked in the respawning armoury
  • The water gun/pressure washer stream now always faces forward
  • Fixed a bug with the smoke/bubble grenade where throwing it at your feet midair would cause it to explode on your feet
  • Fixed a bug with the costume (DLC) equipping in the armoury where it would get reset each time you loaded into the menu
  • Fixed a bug that caused the fire and freeze gun effects to not be applied
  • The maps shown in the map votes will now show up slightly more evenly

Hey everyone, here's another big patch! Next update will be a pretty awesome content update.

1.28.3 Changelog:


  • Localised coin pricing (coins are now cheaper/more reasonably priced for people in Australia, brittain, etc.)

  • The hat section in the shop has been reworked, so that instead of being able to buy 1 hat per day, you get an offer for a 20% discount on a particular hat
  • Aiming straight down with the launcher will now shoot down instead of exploding on your feet
  • Walking up to a wall and shooting the launcher will no longer allow the launcher bullet to phase through the wall
  • If you quit during the tutorial, you will now be given the option to replay the tutorial when you re open the game

INCREDIBLE NEW MAP & 2 NEW ABILITIES (1.28)

Hello everyone! It's been a while since the last big update...and that's because I've been hard at work polishing up the game and implementing a bunch of really small features/ bug fixes

It's time for another huge content update!


New Map: Castle






The screenshots really don't do this map justicethe amount of detail I put into this one is incredible :)

Play Capture the Flag on two sides of the same castle! There's huge verticality, bridges, hideouts, and parts of some towers are even enterable!

  • I've also bumped the number of maps in the map vote to 6 to accomadate



2 new Abilities

[h3]Hardened Bullet[/h3]


This is a new always active passive ability

  • The first bullet of the mag deals 1.5X damage. For example, the damage for the AK is something like [48, 23, 23, 23 etc]. For the shotgun pistol, one of the pellets is randomly chosen to do 1.5X damage
  • Overall it's a pretty unique ability, there will be more abilities soon that modify game rules or centre around combat rather than movement. Let me know on the Paint Warfare Discord if you have ideas!


[h3]Med Kit[/h3]



  • This replaces the old 'Heal' ability with something that's also useful for cooperation team-based modes. If you bought the old heal ability, you'll have this automatically unlocked
  • You can throw the medkit down to your feet (instantly drops) or anywhere you like
  • It deals a small explosion where it drops where it heals 30HP for you/teammates in the radius
  • It then heals 10HP every second for 8 seconds for you/teammates standing in the radius
  • So essentially if you see one of your allies are low, you can throw the medkit at them and heal them :)


[h3]Overhauled: Glider[/h3]
The glider has been due for an overhaul for ages, it's been hardly used because it was weak and it also wasn't very fun to use.




  • Momentum: if you fly downwards for long/fast enough, you build up momentum in your glider which you can use to fly up really fast as well
  • Buffed the overall speed of the glider
  • Added wind SFX depending on the speed, and the camera now zooms slightly depending on how fast you're going



[h3]Overhauled: Radar[/h3]

  • The radar was very weak, so now on top of showing enemies through walls, it now displays directional arrows around your crosshair to reveal nearby enemies to you


[h3]Overhauled: Super Speed Boots[/h3]

  • Super speed boots now increase speed while midair as well


New Map Feature: Giant Fans
This was the suggestion of some of the members on our community Paint Warfare Discord Server. I've only added it to the new castle map for the time being.




Polish & Bug Fixes

  • Reworked a lot of the code base to minimise bugs and speed up future development time
  • Fixed the consistency of double jumpingsometimes double jumping would not always work
  • Fixed the glider not activating correctly
  • Fixed the equip buttons not updating in the respawn armoury when changing from primary -> secondary weapons
  • New quality option: Max (increases shadow rendering distance and makes them look a lot nicer by smoothing them)
  • Smaller bug fixes

I've been pretty busy doing a lot of freelance work and studying for exams recently so I apologise that the patches have been small incremental improvements.

My goal is to get the game into a super polished, bug-free state at the moment so we can grow our player base and then I'll add features :)

17 NEW LANGAUGES, MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS (1.27.2)

Improved language support

Respawn Screen

New Custom Games Options
(Almost) infinite ways to mess around with your game now, here's how to create a custom game:

Midget Warfare


  • 2.5X movement speed
  • 0.4X size


No jumping no abilities

  • 3X Gravity
  • 0.5X Jump force

Classic Paint Warfare

  • 0.8X movement speed

  • 2X Jump force modifier (these two combined make jumping quicker)
  • 100 HP
  • No abilities


Skill / Aim training

  • 2X movement speed

  • 3X Jump force modifier (these two combined make jumping quicker)

  • 0.7X player size
  • 1.5X fire rate



Along with this change, custom games (if they're set to public) will now display in the map list. If you uncheck public it can only be joined with the code.

Added new ability: Half Shield


  • This brand new ability protects you from the front from paintballs, kicks, spoons, you name it! Keep in mind you still take damage from behind :)

Welcome back, this one brings a new map, improvements to the tutorial and some general polish steamhappy

Train Yard Map

Introducing a new mapTrain yard! This one is slightly smaller than the Koto map and is the first map to combine indoor combat in hallways with an open huge map where you can experience the movement to its fullest!





Better Ranking



Tutorial Improvements
It seemed the tutorial was valuable in teaching new players the movement, so I spent a lot of time this update improving it for new players


  • Fixed bugs with the maps and double jumping
  • Shortened the voice lines in the tutorial to make it more straightforward
  • New UIs
  • The second stage of the tutorial is now in the Mafia Island map to allow new players to experience the entirety of the game's movement



Improvements & Polish


  • Camera shake can now be disabled in game options
  • Clearer UI that you can't shoot teammates
  • The bubble grenade and flamethrower now shows damage number popups when damaging enemies
  • The game chat now remains visible in the game end and map vote screen
  • Fixed a bug where both teams would keep getting points at the end of Point Capture games
  • Made a new UI for picking up powerups/ drops from enemies when they die
  • Make the hitbox for powerups larger
  • Buffed the Akimbo pistols and pressure washer
  • Fixed a bug that caused points to not be multiplied depending on your place in FFA

1.25.1 Mega Bug Fix + Polish

I wanted to make the game less buggy so I've went through and fixed a bunch of bugs you guys reported on our Discord server.


Changes:


  • Fixed rock clipping exploits
  • Explosives no longer damage teammates
  • Teammates now properly show up as blue in Point Capture
  • Added all the new weapons into the kill feed so they will display properly
  • Added new change of language UI in options
  • Fixed a bug that caused all the ranks to display at once in the profile
  • Fixed Kingfisher SFX not playing
  • Flamethrower now unlocks at Rank 1
  • Oranges and explosives now destroy turrets
  • Fixed a bug that caused explosives to explode multiple times, lagging the server

GAME BREAKING BUGS FIXED & NEW GUN (1.25)

Hello people!

Welcome back, this one brings a new gun, but most of the focus was brought to fixing some pressing issues and a bug that broke the game completely for a lot of people.

Fixed Game Breaking Bug
A couple of you encountered a bug where the game would become completely unplayable and no functionality would work.


The main menu with the "Dev" tag, coin and level counter broken


All maps stuck on "connecting" and not joining


  • This bug is due to a corrupted save file. As the game grows, stuff like this can happen to people, so I've implemented a new save file recovery/backup system

  • Also added a lot of redundancy in saving games and connecting which should avoid issues


New Gun: Flamethrower

I wanted to add some more beginner weapons, so this update I'm adding a flamethrower!

Similar to the freeze gun, it gives the enemy a debuff when you hit them, except instead of freezing the enemy in place, it sets them on fire, making them more visible and dealing 5 damage every 0.5s for 2.5s.

Rebalancing

AK (Snake)

  • Buff: Increased accuracy
  • Buff: Decreased the spray pattern intensity

Sniper

  • Nerf: Lengthened reload time by 60%

Thundergn (Railgun)

  • The thundergun no longer one-shots enemies (but deals devastating damage 150 > 100)
  • Not only does it reflect, but now it both freezes your enemy in place and sets them on fire at the same time
  • This paired with its use for movement makes it incredibly fun to use and sets it apart from the Sniper

Pressure Washer

  • Buff: Increased damage by 15%

Jetpack Ability

  • Buff: Increased duration by 2 seconds


Fixed Voice Chat
Voice chat wasn't getting a lot of use and I realised it was because it didn't work steamfacepalm

  • Voice chat is now more reliable and works
  • Voice chat volume auto adjusts to bring loud noises down and quiet speaking up



Weapon Skins Synced Between Devices

  • Both hats and weapon skins now sync between devices via Steam cloud. If you had 2 different collections, it will now merge them.



Others

  • Fixed achievements and the global leaderboard. It was broken last update.
  • New invisibility ability model in the Armoury
  • Buying a hat or a gun skin in the shop now automatically refills it with another
  • Removed some monetization like the bundle. I want to focus on gameplay
  • Improved debuff UI
  • Shortened match times to just over 6 minutes
  • Improved scrolling in the Options menu, Map select & Profile
  • Fixed a bug that caused the armoury to get stuck when ranking up
  • More stylized (and hopefully nicer looking) pressure washer water beam

Paint Warfare Hotfix (1.24.2)

Fixes


  • The Mine Launcher and Freeze gun wouldn't equip properly because they were swapped. This is now fixed
  • Fixed some buttons not playing the new SFX


AK Balance Changes

  • The AK fire rate has been reduced (11 > 9 shots / s), but the damage has increased (11 > 16 damage), overall its time to kill is now noticeably faster (1.24s > 1s) and you have to land less shots correctly to kill making tap firing more viable
  • Changed recoil pattern, I want this to be the most "classic" feeling gun, similar to other FPS games like Valorant or CSGO
  • Using sights now negates the recoil pattern entirely, making the AK a very solid choice for both close-range and long range
  • Decreased random inaccuracy while aiming so its just as accurate as the sniper


I hope the AK sees more use as a result of these changes

Shop / DLC Changes
Thank you to everyone who bought the weapon skin + hat bundle early, we raised about 60 bucks which has helped me buy some new assets and tools to bring more maps and content out to you faster.

Unfortunately, it was cannibalizing the sales of coins so I've bumped the small bundle price to $3 (from $1) and big one to $6 (from $4). It's still a steal of a deal tho

  • $3 bundle 2.26x value (compared to $4 of coins) & you can choose your rewards
  • $6 bundle 4.44x value

I thought this would be a funny idea for comedic value/ memes. Anything you type in the chat will now display above your head in a little bubble

Most of my work this update has actually been around streamlining the process for new players (so you guys can get more full lobbies)


  • Removed the in-game tutorial

    • The reason for this is because 99% of the people who download Paint Warfare already know how to play an FPS game and want to jump straight into a game as quickly as possible instead of enduring a 10 minute tutorial
    • Instead I'm favouring a quicker learn-as-you-go approach, teaching new players abilities, sliding, sprinting and climbing through relevant tooltips as you play the game. We'll see how this goes!

  • Made the initial menus a breeze

    • The system language is now automatically detected and the game is set to that language (but there still will be a language selector)
    • Simplified initial menus & improved their design
    • The nickname of new players now defaults to their Steam nickname
    • All of the menu buttons are now available immediately to new members originally I didn't want to overwhelm new players with a load of menus, so I hid stuff like the global leaderboard, quit button (lmao) and shop, but it confused new players more than it helped



Stuff that affects you

  • Better button SFX
  • 300% faster startup time
  • Improvements to various UIs and menus
  • Better map loading splash screens



Other

  • If you had issues with your game (like it being stuck on rank 1 , 1,500 coins, not joining games etc.) this is now fixed

  • Icons to display more info on Abilities in the armoury
  • New icon for weapons that support an alt fire in the armoury
  • Buffed the AK
  • The Bubble grenade will no longer show up in gun game
  • Optimised the bubble grenade significantly now runs 400% faster
  • New screen effect when frozen by freeze gun
  • The death first person spectation of players in Hunger Games now also goes up and down as they look up and down
  • New systems to prevent corrupted save files
  • Patched some out of map exploits

PAINT WARFARE MAPS AND GAMEMODES UPDATE (1.24)

Howdy gamers!

Welcome back, I've had this one planned for a while and I'm so hyped to release this update to y'all steamhappy


NEW MAP: Airfield
Introducing Paint Warfare's most intricate and biggest map based on an abandoned military air base!








NEW GAME MODE: Point Capture
This game mode has been planned for months and it's probably one of my favourite modes in the game right nowup there with Capture the Flag.


  • You get put in one of two teams
  • You rush to take control of as many points as possible with your teams and try hold them at once
  • The more bases you hold, the more points you gain. If the enemy even partially tries to uncapture your base, you stop getting points from it




Koto Changes

The Koto map didn't see many players, and it was unsuited for FFA as I originally designed it with Capture the Flag in mind. Over the next couple updates, I want to put more focus on Team modes and playing with friends, and we needed some more maps in the Team based modes.



  • Shrunk and reworked the Koto map slightly, reduced the number of trees and vegetation for visibility
  • The Koto map has been removed from FFA and it is now Capture the Flag (which I feel suits it better)



Bubble Grenade Changes
If you missed it, last update I made the bubble grenade do tick damage in its radius (~10 damage/second)

I've made some more changes to it in this update to make it more useful

  • It will now damage bots in the coop minigame
  • It no longer deals damage to team mates

Paint Warfare Balancing, Weapon Reworks and Bug Fix (1.23.2)

Hey hey hey!

Here's a quick patch based on your feedback over the past few days steamhappy


Bubble grenade rework


The bubble grenade deals tick damage in a small radius (shown above)!

Changes:


  • Decreased bubble grenade size by 30%, the bubbles are denser now however, which makes it more useful as a smokescreen
  • Enemies entering a bubble grenade smoke take 10 damage per second


Weapon buffs
Some weapons weren't seeing as much use as I'd hoped, so I've made some buffs

Changes:

  • Minigun is now 30% more accurate
  • Increased Frenzy mag size (12 > 18)
  • Increased ACR damage (25 > 50)
  • Increased Banana Gun damage (37 > 60)
  • Increased Launcher blast radius (8 > 11)


Other

  • Fixed the AK scope
  • Increased footstep volume
  • Sped up ranking significantly, especially in later ranks
  • You can now preview hats and skins in the coins shop, and made various other improvements. Coins and DLC purchases are how I pay for server costs, so I improved the user experience of those who choose support the game <3

Paint Warfare Micro Hotfix (1.23.1)

I play the game for a couple of hours after each update and release hotfixes where necessary

Fixes & Improvements


  • Redesigned weapon skin sprites
  • Improved spawn points in the new map
  • Buffed the pressure washer gun range
  • Fixed a bug that caused custom games to reboot the game if the new map was selected
  • Reverted changes to the bubble grenade, however buffed the duration

Introducing Mafia Island, one of the most ambitious maps I've made yet (aside from Koto) that tries to take advantage of Paint Warfare's movement in a stunning and intricately made map.

Customisation
A lot of you have been asking on the discord for more weapon skins, so I've put together 8 new skins including the first skin for the Palas (Burst rifle)





Polish + Bug Fix
Most notable bugs fixed:


  • Fixed a bug that caused the map to go black
  • Fixed a bug that caused the game to become unplayable after exiting the pause screen
  • Fixed the game failing to connect and having to reload multiple times in the main menu
  • Fixed a bug that caused the game to show 'defeat' in Capture the Flag, even in the case of a draw or a win
  • Fixed a lot of issues with saving to prevent lost progress etc.


Most notable changes

  • 4 maps will now show in the map votes instead of 3
  • Buffed bubble grenade > visibility will be heavily reduced while in the bubble grenade
  • Buffed invisibility ability (1.5s > 2s)
  • Added momentum-based sprinting. The longer you sprint, the faster you will go, up to about 150% the regular sprint speed


Other

  • The walk animation will no longer play while zoomed in on weapons like the AK, ACR or Freeze Gun
  • Fixed visual bugs with the in-game XP boost, it will also no longer overlap with debuffs such as invisibility, damage buffs, freeze etc.

FREEZE GUN, 150% FPS INCREASE & POLISH (1.22)

Welcome back everyone!

It's been a busy few weeks for meI've been caught up in examsbut I've put together a super exciting update that I think you guys will enjoy.

From next update onwards we'll be going back to the traditional massive updates like a few months ago :)

Freeze Gun


With the conventional (and not so conventional) FPS gun types already added to Paint Warfare, future guns will have some kind of debuff or really unique quirk that sets them apart, such as:


  • Ability blocker
  • Freeze your enemy
  • You regenerate health from your enemy
  • The more you charge it the more damage you deal




Obviously, these kinds of guns will take a bit longer to develop, so this update I'm super hyped to announce the freeze gun.

It's honestly a thrill to use

  • Shoots a rapid 3-shot burst
  • Has aim down sights
  • Each hit deals 12 damage and freezes your enemy in place for 1.5 seconds
  • It's best to pair it with some kind of other gun, I really like using it with the banana gun, or using it to close the distance and finish enemies off with the kingfisher.
  • Also great for getting assists


    Bugfix and Other Improvements

    • Huge optimisations150% increased FPS on Dunes, Dragon Valley and Blizzard, 200% increased FPS on Anubis
    • Reduced ping

    • Fixed stickers bugmore guns now support stickers
    • Double XP (from Supporter Pack) and 3X XP boosts (from Shop) now stack together to give you a 6X XP boost, new UI
    • Increased Radar duration
    • Explosives AoE visualisation

    RADAR ABILITY, VOICE CHAT AND MORE PLAYERS (1.21)

    Hey supporters!

    This update is super exciting and I think you guys will love this one!

    (1.) Locator Ability
    Credit to quax from our discord for this idea!


    Added a new secondary ability that reveals the positions of all enemies for 4 seconds.




    • Unlimited uses
    • Recharges on an 8s timer


    (2.) More players


    Over the past few months, we've had complains that there's not enough players. I hear y'all loud and clear so now you should see up to 2X more players in lobbies.


  • Removed the region select. This is a temporary change, over the next few weeks all games will happen on either EU or US for that week
  • Removed MMR-based matchmaking. I've done some work on the AK and other beginner weapons to make sure they're easy to use even for new players.


    (3.) Voice chat
    This feature HAS at one point been in the game, but it was underdeveloped so now I'm re-releasing it with significant improvements.




    • You can now change your selected microphone, and your selected microphone will persist in your save file
    • Voice chat can be toggled on/off
    • Voice chat keybind can now be changed
    • Upgraded voice chat servers to handle the bandwidth


    I feel like this feature will make playing with friends so much more fun! Enjoy!

    (4.) Fixes & Improvements

    • Added first-person hand animations
    • Added a new option for adjusting UI scale
    • Added a loader UI for timed ability
    • When you have reached a limit for the number of turrets, the UI will become red
    • Fixed smoke grenade and orange grenades getting stuck when switching weapons
    • The randomiser power-up will now randomise both abilities
    • Added a screen for initialising the voice over
    • The starting tutorial is now skippable
    • Fixed translations
    • Pausing the menu music will now persist between game sessions
    • New pop up for 3 hour XP boosts
    • Added more contrast to health text to make it more readable
    • Fixed bugs with a number of daily challenges
    • Improved map ambience sounds
    • Added new menu music

    GAME HEALTH UPDATE EU SERVERS, THIRD PERSON AIM, REBALANCING (1.20)

    Hey all!

    I've spent the past few weeks thoroughly testing and ironing out bugs in the game, the patch is finally out and I'm super excited to talk about some of the new changes...

    (1.) Invisibility Ability Balancing

    I've heard a few reports of people unhappy with the invisibility ability, so I've made the following changes:


    • The invisibility ability now leaves a trail of particles. This will make it so you can still be hit while invisible, but it'll still throw off your enemy and give you well needed relief
    • Fixed a bug that caused you to stay invisible permanently after using invisibility


    (2.) Sights (Zoom) Improvements for the ACR and AK

    • Fixed a bug that caused sights on the ACR and AK not to zoom in properly
    • Buffed AK zoom (1.5x > 2.8x)
    • Buffed ACR zoom (3x > 4x)
    • The AK will now be more accurate while zoomed in (2x), slightly reduced accuracy while not zoomed in (~10%)


    (3.) Hunger Games

    This game mode needed some love so I've added the following changes.

    • 6X XP in hunger games
    • Added a players left counter to hunger games
    • Added a proper UI for when the round ended and restarting hunger games


    (4.) NEW GAME SERVERS!!!

    • Added US/EU server selection


    (5.) All Other Improvements:

    • Fixed a bug that stopped you from picking up items from chests at close distance
    • Fixed a bug that made the pick up pop up linger even after picking up a gun from a chest
    • Added bindable keybinds for kick, chat, and opening chests
    • Improved reliability of syncing for match timers
    • Fixed a bug that caused it to display "Game ended" when joining a game
    • Fixed bugs with map vote
    • Added a pre loading screen before the main menu
    • Improved the ammo HUD

    • You can now tell if enemies are aiming up and down
    • Fixed a bug that allowed you to kill a person multiple times with explosives
    • Fixed a bug that caused a black screen on low settings when running on Apple Silicon devices

    • Fixed a bug that caused the speed of the dash ability to be affected by your game frame rate
    • Fixed Russian and German translations
    • Added a new shader to the arms during the spawn invincibility
    • Sticky mines can no longer be shot through the floor

    • The tutorial is now skippable
    • Fixed a bug that caused random costumes to be equipped when launching the game

    3 NEW GUNS, ABILITY SYSTEM OVERHAUL & MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS TO HUNGER GAMES (1.19)

    (1.) NEW WEAPONS + WEAPONS REBALANCING
    [h3]PRESSURE WASHER[/h3]
    Intruducing the pressure washer! This modified pressure washer shoots paint and deals constant tick damage as long as your crosshair is on your enemy. It's a lot of fun to use and fairly powerful once you get the hang of it.

    [h3]AKIMBO PISTOLS[/h3]

    This one's been really well requested... it shoots in bursts of 2 and deals very heavy and accurate damage (but is a bit slow)

    [h3]STICKY MINE LAUNCHER[/h3]

    A few updates back when I was adding the teleporter, I was playing around with the idea of a mine launcher. I really liked the idea, so this update I'm introducing the mine gun!


    • It's fully automatic
    • 6 mine barrel
    • Mines stick to walls or other players
    • Explode after 1s
    • Excellent in tight spaces


    [h3]AK IMPROVEMENTS[/h3]


    • I've added a sight to the AK (increases accuracy)


    [h3]GAS GUN REWORK[/h3]


    The current version of the gas gun wasn't true to my original vision for the gun, or to how you guys probably expected it to work.
    It only did damage in a straight line and was really inaccurate. So to make it feel more like 'gas', I've made some improvements.

    • It now damages over an area (sort of like a shotgun)
    • I've buffed the damages over distance, though it still will do most damage when you're close to the enemy


    [h3]WEAPON REBALANCING[/h3]

    • It felt like you died too fast, so I've rebalanced all the weapons so you effectively have ~ 2x more health
    • I also noticed that you'd get shot a lot from behind (which isn't fun), so I made some improvements to make it clearer when you get hurt (see: Polish and bug fix below)



    (2.) RANKING CHANGES

    • You'll now rank up faster, added 3 more ranks


    (3.) GAMEPLAY IMPROVEMTS
    [h3]ABILITY OVERHAUL[/h3]
    As many of you pointed out, having only one ability equipped at once was king of limiting, so I've reworked the ability system this update.



    • Theres now two ability classes: passive and active
    • Active abilities are those that recharge on kills, such as the dash, turret or invisibility, and passive abilities are ones that are always charged, like the jetpack, grapple hook, speed boots etc.
    • You'll now be able to equip both at once, which should allow for more combinations and even better movement


    [h3]MOVEMENT IMPROVEMENTS[/h3]

    • Jumping felt too 'airy', so I made some improvements to jumping and the fall speed
    • You can fall to the ground faster by holding your slide key (ctrl)



    (4.) HUNGER GAMES REWORK
    Thank you for your feedback on the hunger games mode last update! I've made some improvements to the mode in line with your ideas.




    • The game is now more of an elimination, when you die, you'll now be able to spectate other players until there's only one player left and the game restarts

    • Improved the gun picking up in Hunger Games
    • Fixed the hunger games spawn cam
    • Fixed out-of-map bugs on the Island map

    Polish and bug fix

    • The Health bar now flashes red to make it clear when you're getting hit
    • Changed the colour of the damage direction indicator to red
    • Fixed a bug that caused the poison gun sound to play continuously non-stop for other players
    • Fixed armoury weapons order to match their unlock order in ranks
    • New banana gun shoot SFX
    • Removed capture the cow mode
    • Added icons for the base location in Capture the Flag
    • Fixed a bug that caused you to be placed in a separate lobby from everyone else if you were max rank

    HUNGER GAMES, ARMOURY IMPROVEMENTS & NEW MAP

    Hello again!

    Here's this week's mega content update :)

    (1.) HUNGER GAMES + TROPICAL ISLAND MAP





    I've added a new hunger games mode!

    Here's how it works


    • Everyone starts with a spoon
    • You can open chests to get other guns
    • There are no abilities or modifiers
    • If you die you just respawn, and there's no time limit. I did this because I don't think it'd be fun waiting for everyone else to die, and because people die really fast in this game. I'm open to suggestions though if you'd like some kind of 'elimination' kind of gameplay!


    (2.) ARMOURY IMPROVEMENTS
    In the armoury, unique gun modifiers are now displayed as an icon beneath the weapon description

    (3.) NO PLAYERS IMPROVEMENTS
    From now on, when there are no other players in a map, explosive bots will spawn while you wait for more players to join.

    (4.) BUG FIXES

    • Fixed the same map being listed multiple times in the custom games menu
    • The text on the ability UI now reflects the keybinding you have for that ability
    • Fixed some other out-of-bounds glitches
    • The ability randomiser powerup should no longer clip into the ground

    COW MODIFIER, ASSISTS AND POLISH (1.17)

    Hello again! I'm working on making the game more friendly for beginners, so the past few updates have been centred around polish and incremental improvements.

    Here's the key features new in this update:

    (1.) COW MODIFIER
    I've brought back the capture the cow minigame... this time to FFA!



    Here's how it works:


    • One player starts with the cow
    • When holding the cow, you heal 15 HP every 2 seconds, making you a TANK
    • If the player holding the cow is killed, it is transferred to the killer immediately, and they now hold the cow


    Sounds pretty stupid, but it's fun to play

    (2.) KILL ASSISTS
    It could get frustrating having your kill stolen by others and you wouldn't get anything for it. Now if you damaged another player, and they were then later killed by another player, you will get an assist (your crosshair will turn blue) and you will get 5 points.




    • Assists also display in the Profile and ingame leaderboard now


    (3.) CAPTURE THE FLAG IMPROVEMENTS



    • If the enemy dies with your flag, you can now touch the dropped flag to return it to your base


    (4.) POLISH AND EXPLOIT FIXES

    • Right clicking now explodes the orange instantly
    • Fixed a bug with power-ups not working
    • Got 6 people from our discord community to narrate the tutorial to their language!
    • Fixed dashing out of the map, and beneath the floor
    • When you rank up, the "Armoury" button now goes to the weapon you just unlocked
    • Fixed map player counters in the map select
    • Improved the menu tutorial
    • Fixed a bug with the invisibility timer UI not showing
    • Fixed issues with the map vote
    • Fixed bug with team colors in Teams/ CTF
    • Fixed translations being clipped off in foreign languages
    • Improved the shop

    POWER-UPS, MATCH TIMERS, NEW CHALLENGES & EXPLOIT FIX (1.16)

    Hello again! I'm working on making the game more friendly for beginners, so the past few updates have been centred around polish and incremental improvements.

    Here's the key features new in this update:

    (1.) MAP VOTES // GAME TIMERS

    Match timers have now been reintroduced in FFA. This will solve two problems:


    • The only map with players always being dunes, and maps like Spoon Factory or Anubis being empty
    • Most people will now play in the same match, but we'll be able to cycle through different maps


    (Above), the new 'recommended map' UI in the map selector, which shows you the map with the most players

    (2.) POWERUPS

    On death, players now have a 25% change of dropping a random power-up. This should encourage people to move around the map more! Power-ups include:

    • Ability recharge
    • Weapon fire rate & reload boost
    • Heal
    • Ability randomiser


    (3.) NEW CHALLENGES

    • Added 6 new daily challenges for y'all. Enjoy!


    (4.) TRANSLATIONS

    • I've been playing around with Google Translate and GPT4, all text in the game COMPLETELY translated to other languages
    • If you'd be willing to be the narrator the tutorial in your language (~3-4 minutes of lines), DM me on discord and I can gift you coins and DLCs for free as a thank you!


    (5.) DASH CHANGES // EXPLOIT FIX
    Over the past month, I've heard your reports of out-of-map/ inside object glitches with the dash. This along with being killed by the 'World' is now fixed.

    I've also made some improvements to the dash

    • Dashing is now more consistent you no longer dash further in the air than you do on the ground
    • You dash a bit slower, but further now; this is in response to people asking it to be nerfed


    I haven't seen many people using the Grapple, honestly, I'd recommend using it if you're reading this

    (6.) NEW KILL SFX // UI

    I've heard your feedback on the SFX, and I've put together some killer new sounds for killstreaks.

    Also, the UI for kill streaks now goes up to 10 (X) and the sound goes up to 15.

    BUG FIX

    • If I listed the number of bugs I fixed, this report would realistically be twice as long, here are the 2 main things
    • Your weapon skins are now synced in third person for others to see
    • Fixed a spinning bug when plugging in a controller.

    BUG FIX, HEALTH REBALANCE AND POLISH (1.15)

    Hey!

    It's still peak exam time for me, but I thought I'd come out with a pretty big bugfix update for y'all.

    Health Rebalance
    It felt like you die too fast from automatic guns so I've made some balance changes:


    • Health increased 100 > 150
    • Spoon damage nerfed (3-4 hits now) 200 dmg > 50 dmg


    Snipers and railguns are still one shot.

    Report System
    I don't understand why some people cheat, it literally makes the game less fun for you by removing skill.

    There's now a ban and report system. Bans are irreversible. Falsely reporting players will get you banned also.


    Bug fixes

    • Fixed Capture the Flag
    • Fixed a crazy shotgun and ACR bug that caused the sound to play rapidly
    • Added tracers to the minigun
    • Ingame playtime tracking fixed
    • Bush, tree and dodge skins are now fixed in teams (didn't display colours previously)
    • Fixed bugs with the coop minigame
    • The gun you're up to in gun game now persists between rounds
    • Round length increased (45s > 120s)
    • Fixed a bug that caused the leaderboard to reload each time you respawned
    • Added a preview of your gun + skin + hat in the menu :)
    • More clear damage FX
    • Added more translations. Daily challenges are now translated.
    • Fixed a bug that turned maps black

    ARMOURY, GUN GAME & MINIGAMES UPDATE (1.14 - Part 1)

    This is the first of a two part update in the second part I'll be adding weapon inspect animations and some more game modes (potentially)

    Weapon Skins
    I've heard your feedback and a lot of you seemed to want the ability to customise your guns!




    My friend Juan and I have been putting together 9 new gun skins over the past week. There's:


    • Galaxy Set (AK, Kingfisher)
    • Futuristic Set (Kingfisher, Frenzy, Sniper)
    • Scrolling Rainbow Set (Kingfisher, AK, Frenzy, Sniper)

    Gas Gun (Rank 13)



    Everything is legal in Paint Warfare.

    This is why I've introduced the gas gun.


    • Deals tick damage
    • Damage decreases with distance from the enemy
    • Generous amount of ammo


    Overall its a very powerful weapon, but it's only good at close range and requires a lot of tracking to keep your crosshair over your enemy.

    Armoury Improvements
    I've cleaned up the armoury and improved the usability of hats and costumes.




    • Buying hats has been moved to the shop
    • Select hats by dragging the hat options at the bottom
    • Added 3 new hats


    FREE Daily Coins: New Shop UI


    • You now get 10 coins daily on top of daily challenges
    • You can now purchase a 3-hour XP boost with coins. This stacks with the supporter boost and the 2x XP game mode


    Glider

    Added a new ability: the glider


    • If you've ever played Minecraft it feels fairly similar to that
    • Double press space to fly
    • You can climb slowly by looking up
    • Point the glider down to pick up speed

    Paint Warfare GUNS & GAMEPLAY UPDATE (1.12)

    Hello again!

    This update I wanted to focus on adding some new unique weapons & polishing up the gameplay. There are a number of fixes and changes in this update so it's worth reading through :)


    New Weapons

    [h3]TELEPORTER[/h3]


    Introducing the teleporter!

    Fire a cosmic orb with left-click, and right-click at any time to teleport to it. This gun should open up some awesome new gameplay opportunities, especially in terms of movement and strategy.

    Unlocks at rank 11.

    [h3]BURST[/h3]


    Sturdy and reliable; knock out enemies with Paint Warfare's first burst weapon!

    Pre-unlocked for everyone.

    [h3]RAILGUN CHANGES[/h3]


    • Increased the fire rate of the railgun to be faster than the sniper
    • Increased the knockback of the railgun (this can be a good thing)
    • Added a slight charge delay before firing the railgun to make it more challenging to use


    Overall, if you have it unlocked, I've differentiated the rail gun more from the sniper, and it'll now give you an advantage over the sniper provided you are able to master it.


    Butter Smooth Connection
    I've done a lot of optimisation to the net code, so the game uses ~60% less bandwidth now.

    • Lower ping
    • Less lag, disconnects and stuttering



    QoL and Polish

    • Gun type is now displayed in the killfeed
    • DOUBLE YOUR FPS: On macs or high-resolution monitors with this new resolution option

    • Fixed an exploit where you could switch to your secondary in spoon only
    • Improved the syncing of gunshot sounds (like the minigun)
    • Removed floor is lava from all FFA maps; it will now only be available in team deathmatch

    • Fixed team spawns in Factory

    Thanks for reporting connection bugs with yesterday's patch, these should all be fixed now.

    PAINT WARFARE FLAG CAPTURE AND EGYPT MAP (1.11)

    Welcome back!

    It's been a while since I've brought you guys some new gamemodes, so I'm proud to introduce Capture the Flag! Along with a new map designed explicitly around it

    There won't be an update next week as I'll be directing my efforts to marketing Paint Warfare.


    Capture the Flag

    Race against your opponent to capture as many flags from the enemy into your base in 15 minutes!

    Honestly, I prefer this game mode over the traditional FFA, so I'm incredibly hyped to announce it in this new update.

    Anubis Map




    Face off among the gods in this gorgeous new Egyptian-inspired map! With heaps of cover and multiple routes to the other flag, this map is perfect for the new game mode.

    New Tutorial
    The old tutorial missed a lot of key tips for improving with the movement, so I've been working with a new Japanese voice actor to revamp the existing tutorial.




    This change probably won't affect a lot of the existing players, but if you'd like to redo the new tutorial, type /tutorial while in game.

    The full accuracy noscope feature on the sniper felt like something that distinguished the sniper from snipers in other games.

    I've buffed the accuracy of the sniper when its unscoped.

    PAINT WARFARE BUGFIX (1.9.1 Notes)

    Hello!

    Thank you everyone for reporting the bugs in yesterday's release. I put together a quick patch today covering all of the bugs you guys encountered.

    Gamemodes


    • Fixed an issue preventing games from restarting
    • Fixed infinite loops of game over
    • Fixed the match timer displaying absurdly high amounts. All maps now have 15-minute games
    • Fixed an issue where first place would be placed second in FFA games


    Turrets
    I've thoroughly retested the turrets. Fixed 3 major issues


    • Fixed turret targeting (it was targeting the furthest player instead of the closest)
    • Fixed turret accidentally hitting/ damaging its owner
    • Fixed a turret kill giving all other players in the lobby points


    Other

    • The sniper scope should now work correctly on Apple Silicon based macs
    • Fixed graphics quality continuously resetting
    • Fixed minor bugs in the armoury
    • Fixed 'V' accidentally toggling voice chat

    • Hard capped the number of bots per map at 1 (there were previously more in Factory). For full transparency, these are used when there are huge dips in players (night time) in both the EU and US regions to make the game more fun.

    Turret Ability
    I made a new ability that makes you rethink the way you play.




    With this ability, you can place up to 3 paintball turrets at once, but you have to get a kill before placing each one.

    The turrets can be destroyed by enemies with one shot. All of your turrets are destroyed if you die.

    I'm excited to see how this will open up new gameplay opportunities with people hiding turrets in funny places, dropping turrets from the sky, or taking control of entire sectors of the map in Team Deathmatch.

    PAINT WARFARE'S BIGGEST QoL UPDATE + NEW ABILITIES (1.8)

    Hey all!

    Sorry about the delay with this update, there's been a lot of smaller features I've been putting together :)


    New Abilities!
    I've added 3 new abilities.




    • Super speed boots
    • Heal
    • Jetpack


    To prevent this from getting overwhelming in combination with the existing abilities, there's now a new ability equip/unlock system.


    New Ranking, Currency & Daily Challenges



    I've been rethinking the way ranking should work in the game; grinding rank can be repetitive, so I've introduced a set of 10 daily challenges (more coming soon).

    I've also changed the key system to coins to accommodate for the new changes and future changes I have planned.

    Your keys will be converted to coins (with a free bonus for being a player before this update)


    Feedback on Bots


    Thank you for your feedback on the bots. I agree they weren't ideal.

    As we're growing our community & player base, they're no longer necessary so I'm removing them. The only chance you'll see a bot in this update is when there are no players.


    QoL
    I've been focused on QoL this update and some huge new content updates are planned for later this month.

    To help add more depth to the gunplay, I've added a new procedural recoil system with unique recoil patterns for

    The frenzy could outclass the AK in some situations and felt overpowered at times. So it was necessary to make it less accurate at further ranges.

    The minigun has a strong foothold in taking out large groups of enemies, which is the intention; however a lot of you felt that it took too long to spin up

    • Decreased spin-up time (18%)

    Introducing the Thundergun! a new reflective rail gun dropped into Paint Warfare from an alien warship.

    I saw some of y'all try hide in the bushes on Blizzard, but they were too small so I made them larger. It'd be fun to see how this improves gameplay :)

    Paint Warfare Patch Notes 1.2.3

    [h2]Voice Chat + Better Servers[/h2]
    The Paint Warfare voice chat was working about 1/10th of the time last Paint Warfare build, and there were reports of people being randomly kicked from games. I needed to patch that lmao.


    • Larger bandwidth on voice chat and gameplay servers
    • The 'Voice Chat' setting in options now displays your current mic when you hover over it (ingame only)
    • When speaking (holding V), the mic icon in the bottom right corner will now have an audio visualisation so you can see if voice chat is working
    • Voice chat volume is now automatically increased/decreased to make sure everyone is audible

    • Improved UI responsiveness and sound design
    • Added my friend g0d to the game credits for designing some cool upcoming hats!

    I've been on spring break, & so I patched all the known bugs and added some needed polish to the game. I'd like to thank you all for the support, constant bug reports, feedback and content you've all been putting out!

    • Fixed a bug that caused the chat to be spammed when killing bots
    • Fixed a typo in a joining message

    • Fixed an issue that caused the game to break when the save file was corrupted (from a BSOD or crash mid-game)

    Paint Warfare GRAPPLE HOOKS ARE BACK (1.1.0)

    Howdy!
    Here's an update I've been working on in the background for a while with some big movement changes and other cool stuff.

    I've balanced the grapple to a point where it's fun to use. There's some new UI for grappling too :D




    [h2]Better Sliding :o[/h2]
    Previously there wasn't much feedback for sliding & it felt underpowered. You now slide at 2x your sprint speed and your view lowers slightly when sliding. You can still use crouch to quickly fall to ground




    [h2]Dragon Valley 2.0 + Other Map Improvements[/h2]
    I added more cover in Dragon Valley, and expanded the world border in the dunes map to add more play area



    ^ New red walls add cover behind the tunnel and make the map feel better


    ^ Added this crate/tunnel down the right side, so there are now 3 covered paths up/down the main mountain




    * These are minor changes, but make the map feel a lot better to play on

    Paint Warfare Bugfix Patch 2/2 (2.0.2)

    Aloha! Here's part 2 of the patch released last week, that tackles some bugs and gameplay issues you all found in the release. :D



    [h2]Gameplay:[/h2]
    I wanted to make some changes to the gameplay, specifically to the spawn invulnerability and the gamemode functionality.


    • Spawn invulnerability now lasts longer (3s ---> 3.5s), but is deactivated immediately once you fire

    I hope this will encourage players using the invulnerability for its intended use (pushing out of spawn areas into combat) while not making it overpowered.


    • Added a new UI that displays gamemode changes & gamemode length reduced (60s ---> 35s)



    [h2]Quality of Life:[/h2]
    I've added some of your suggestions and added the following quality of life improvements




    • Added a map select when you press 'join game' in the menu (you can still quick join a random active room by just pressing return/enter)
    • Loading music will no longer play while respawning
    • Gamemode change UI
    • New respawn music + easter eggs? :)



    [h2]Balance/Bugfix:[/h2]

    • Respawn time decreased (5s ---> 3s)
    • Fixed the game hanging on loading screens
    • Fixed a bug causing players to be unnamed
    • Solved an issue causing the cursor to be hidden at times where it shouldn't

    • No way to exit spectator mode at the moment

    Paint Warfare Bugfix Patch 1/2 (1.0.1)

    Hey! I just wanted to thank everyone for the huge amount of support recently, the game has totally blown up and I'm so thankful for you all *<:)

    Here's the first of 2-3 small patches that'll be coming over the next few weeks targeting bugs and cheaters. Please update to continue to be able to play with other players.




    [h2]Cheaters:[/h2]
    There's been reports of a pretty large number of cheaters, which is normal as games get bigger. I'll prioritise patching out big exploits as soon as I find them, I'm a solo dev though, so this will obviously take some time.

    Can't really go into specifics onto some of the changes I've made this update, but I hope you will all run into fewer cheaters from now on.


    [h2]Servers:[/h2]
    There's been some crazy player counts recently, which were causing issues with gameplay & being kicked/unable to join



    • Bought some bigger servers (old ones were maxing out)
    • Increased the size of the match leaderboard (8 ---> 12 players)
    • Improved matchmaking to help spread out players into the different maps (use /j, /blizzard and /dunes to swap maps still)


    I'll be rolling out new regions and a map select in future patches.


    [h2]Bugfix:[/h2]

    • Updated chat filter
    • Fixed bug that caused keys to disappear
    • You can no longer join the tutorial level and kill new players
    • Launcher explosion radius reduced (11m ---> 9m), lethal radius reduced (4m ---> 3m)

    • Chat cooldown to help counter spamming
    • Quality of life improvements

    Paint Warfare FULL RELEASE BETA (1.0.0) Hotfix

    Howdy!
    This update is a little on the smaller side, but brings some well-needed improvements before the game comes out of early access :)



    [h2]Balancing/ Gameplay[/h2]


    • Removed the grapple (g) while I work on mechanics to make it better work better with the existing movement
    • Voice chat loudness is no longer based on the distance from the source

    It's important for each of the movement mechanics to have unique use cases & it felt as though the grapple replaced all other movement (climb, dash, orange jump, fall, etc.)

    I'm working on balancing the grapple at the moment, either by using a cooldown or by making some mechanic that makes you more vulnerable while grappling.

    • The Snake (AK) will now be the same colour (orange) on all maps. Fixed a bug that caused a tiny yellow bell to fly off the gun when you spawn

    • The AFK kick timer has been increased (2 ---> 8 minutes)

    Paint Warfare FULL RELEASE BETA Changelog

    Howdy!
    This update adds a crazy amount of new mechanics, polish, progression/economy improvements and content that I'm so excited to finally release to you all!

    Basically, after this version is fully tested & some other minor polish changes are added, the game will come out of early access. :)



    [h2]Bubble Grenade![/h2]
    This weapon has sort of silently been in the works for many updates now, and it's finally polished enough to be part of this release! The bubble grenade creates a smoke barrier and unlocks at rank 11 :)



    [h2]Hats + Progression Updates[/h2]
    The current progression with just tags felt limited, so I've added some cool looking hats that you can unlock!



    There's also been a few changes to the progression and ranking


    • coins have been replaced with unlock keys (automatically exchanged)
    • 5 new ranks to grind through with some wayyy cooler rewards incase you're into that B:)

    Paint Warfare 0.10.0_b dropped! (added Proximity Voice Chat)

    Hey people! i've been pretty tied up with exams, videos and commissions as of late, so this month's update is a little on the smaller side. Nevertheless though, strap in and prepare to find out all about the cool new features you're getting! ;)


    [h2]*Proximity Voice Chat* >:D[/h2]
    I've been playing a lot of Crab Game recently (it's a sick multiplayer flip of Squid Game on steam, so check it out!), having a lot of fun with the proximity chat mechanic, which I knew would be totally fire in Paint Warfare.

    So proximity voice chat is in the game now, so you all can get some funny clips, or just totally roast the muck out of each other in your lobby. >:O


    Obviously there's the option to mute everyone in the settings, an option for automatic voice chat (instead of just push to talk) is on its way too.


    [h2]New Servers + Ping Counter:[/h2]
    There's been some reports of slow servers and huuuge ping spikes (specifically when playing from na), so I've moved the main server to Japan, (from Singapore), which is a lot faster from testing.

    Keep in mind that there's a huge amount of systems already in place that minimise the effect that ping has on gameplay in most cases, so even a ping of 200ms is totally unnoticeable in Paint Warfare.


    [h2]Bugfix/Polish:[/h2]


    • The game no longer plays music in between switching maps
    • Time played is now recorded correctly
    • Changes to the colour palette the game and UI is slightly more vibrant now
    • Damaging enemies with explosives and not eliminating them no longer plays the kill animation
    • I'm currently looking into an issue where the game bricks if the save file becomes corrupted (super extremely rare)
    • Other minor things *<:)

    Paint Warfare is Back with a Huge New Update! (0.9.0_b1 Released)

    The new update brings crazy amounts of new content, unlockables (like tags, weapons and even more achievements) and some more polish/bugfixes based on your feedback.

    After a lil bit of closed testing, Paint Warfare is back, and there's even more planned for the future of the game!



    [h2]New Dragon Valley Map:[/h2]
    A new, well requested Japanese inspired map is here! The new map is a bit smaller than Dunes or Blizzard but offers really interesting combat with dash spots that launch you across the map, a tunnel and a lake that makes you completely invulnerable to fire from above.




    I've also polished up the existing maps to be on par with the brand new map, adding a few more secret hidden easter eggs ;)


    [h2]Unlockables![/h2]
    Something I've felt was missing from the rework compared to the legacy version of Paint Warfare was a real form of progression ingame.
    So in 0.9.0 I've brought 2 new forms of progression to complement each other, being (a) the rank/account levelling system and (b) a new ingame currency that you get from ranking up.

    [h3]What can I unlock?[/h3]


    • more guns
    • coloured nametags
    • new characters + abilities (coming next update!)

    There's been wayyy more polish and smaller changes than I can (realistically) list here so here's a quick rundown of a few more notable changes


    • Gamemodes can no longer repeat and last 60s instead of just 45, you can now also swap gamemodes by typing /gm in chat!
    • Fixed bugs that caused props in the map to glitch or disappear, other people's movement is now much smoother
    • Damage and points summary in the respawn screen
    • Definitely no new easter eggs at all ;)

    0.6.2 addresses critical issues in the last version like cheaters and fixes a few bugs.

    Paint Warfare Back On Steam! (Public Beta 0.6.0_b Released)

    The goal of the Paint Warfare rework was to fix a lot of the underlying issues with the old Paint Warfare and to shape the game into something that was unique to anything any other FPS game has to offer currently

    After a bunch of closed testing, and a short public beta on itch.io, Paint Warfare is back on Steam! :)


    [h2]Combat Changes:[/h2]
    The old Paint Warfare combat was really slow and unoriginal.

    Now, nearly every single mechanic encourages incredibly fast-paced play and rushing in on your opponents

    My favourite mechanic is the health "stealing" which rewards you health for kills and replaces the old auth health regen that encouraged people to hide away once losing health. This mechanic makes it so satisfying to clutch kills on low health

    [h3]Other cool mechanics that I won't go into:[/h3]


    • Respawn invulnerability (rush opponents/revenge)
    • Grenade jumping (difficult to pull of but incredibly fun lol)
    • Faster time to kills
    • Removal of terrible mechanics that encouraged the opposite of what I'm trying to achieve xD


    This overall makes the game feel so incredibly unique.


    [h2]Better Maps:[/h2]
    The new maps are better designed than the old Paint Warfare's offerings. They offer more cover around the map, and places to shelter against people grenade jumping and turning into an "areal strike unit" (yes that's a thing).
    Anyways, although there are only 2 right now, there are more coming..

    In Response To Recent Reviews

    Hey guys!

    Over the next few months, I will be completely overhauling the game in order to address some core issues and bugs with the game in response to recent reviews.

    This rework will bring with it:


    • Improvements to combat, maps, modes and movement, to bring more depth
    • Improved multiplayer bots/some form of singleplayer
    • Fixes to major issues with the project (it's over a year old!) which will make it easier for me to add content faster and without creating bugs
    • Improved visuals and UI redesigns
    • Weapons that more creatively use the paintball theme
    • Controller support

    Paint Warfare 1.8 Gameplay and Polish Overhaul



    After a month of both open and closed beta testing on the discord server, weve nailed down most of the major bugs found in 1.7 and 1.7.2. Along with that, some well-needed overhauls reworks, and polish work have finally been completed!



    Maps:
    The older 3x3km blizzard and archipelago maps have been completely replaced with new closer range Dunes and Mudslide maps!
    The main reason we have decided to put forward this change was simply due to the large amount of distance needed to be covered by foot with the removal of vehicles from the game.
    These new maps provide unique gameplay possibilities; the Dunes map is more open while the Mudslide map is filled with cover.

    Further, minor changes have been made to the Factory and Wetlands maps to provide more cover.

    Movement:
    1.8 provides much more responsive and faster paced movement, with more polish given to the B-hopping (bunny hopping), Grenade jumping and climbing mechanics in the game. Air control has also been added which allows the player some control when jumping.

    Combat:
    The combat systems from 1.7 have been completely overhauled with the 1.8 update.

    One of the main issues that our players found with combat pre 1.7 was how the game punished the player when being low on health. This has now been removed with the damaged effect now being more subtle.
    Further, auto-health regeneration has been put into place, though as to not render the med-kit useless with this mechanic, the regeneration lacks the ability to regenerate shield, and the med-kit now has a shorter cool down.

    In order to make combat more interesting, the bazooka will now be able to damage the player if used at too close of a range. This is both in part to balance the bazooka and encourage the use of secondary or primary weapons at these ranges.

    Bugs with the crosshair have also now been fixed, and you are now also able to hold grenades in your hand and only throw it when you let go of the mouse.

    New SFX have also been introduced for the weapons to better fit a paintball theme.

    Matchmaking, AI and Spectator:
    Seperate buttons have been added for each map in order to make it easier to join a preferred room. Further, rooms are now capped at 8 players, and should extra players join, they would be sent to another room.

    To assist with a lack of players at times, a basic AI has been added while a player is waiting for other players to join a room. This will encourage players to wait for others to join rather than quitting the game.
    This AI will not damage the players, but will earn the player XP when killed.

    A new spectator mode has been added and the ability to hide UI in game has been added to assist people who would like to record gameplay without UI.

    Paint Warfare 1.7.1 (Patch Notes)

    Paint Warfare 1.7.1 was a 2 part update fixing critical issues and bugs found in 1.7.0.



    [h2]Changes;[/h2]


    • New unique music for the Blizzard, Archipelago and Factory
    • Changes to the way music is played when loading a map
    • Updated menu music
    • Ping counters in the menu now display 'connecting' when a connection is not yet established
    • Added rocket jumping
    • Definitely no new easter eggs

    • Fixed missing textures found in the player model in the plane
    • Fixed a bug that prevented the plane from shooting
    • Respawn fixes in the LMS mode
    • Fixed a bug that prevented vehicles from being destroyed

    • Reduced bazooka damage to a maximum of 100hp, depending on the distance from the explosion

    • Bumped up grenade count; depending on which type of grenade you have equipped, you now have 2-5 bonus grenades

    Paint Warfare 1.7.0 : New maps, planes, grenades and more!

    Paint Warfare 1.7.0 has been a trek; it's been a 3-month project, the most development time ever put into a release after 1.0.
    We've had countless new people come and go, helping make this update possible, and I'm finally happy to announce that the 1.7.0 update is now public on Steam!

    [h2]Movement:[/h2]
    Movement has been overhauled, it's now much smoother and more responsive. Crouching bugs have been patched and animations have been overhauled, and network usage has been optimised

    [h2]Maps:[/h2]
    The old 2x2km Tornado and Blizzard maps have been completely replaced with 2 completely new 3x3km maps fit-out with trucks and fighter planes. The new maps also feature a spawn select, so you can tactically choose your favourite spawn and get right into the action.

    An LMS mode has also been introduced into the factory map, along with various optimisation and lighting changes

    An entire new weapon class has also been introduced, with 4 new grenade types now in the game. Med-kits have received a massive buff, and a new auto-heal timer has now been introduced, so you will automatically regenerate health after not taking damage for a few seconds.

    Grenade jumping has also been added, along with a void, so you don't fly too high.
    All bugs with the old team deathmatch system have been fixed, and nametags have been removed in FFA.

    Paint splatters and bullet delays have now also been added.

    Added a new music player in the menu, overhauled the matchmaking UI and added UI SFX.
    Better post-processing has been added to menu UIs that is also able to be adjusted in the quality settings.

    • Fixed some building colliders
    • Impoved the chat censoring system to minimise false blocking

    1.7.0 Roadmap, Release Date and more! - Devlog #3

    Hey all! Sorry for all the radio silence this month while we've been testing an perfecting Paint Warfare 1.7.0 (yes that's right, 1.7.0).

    We've been busy stress testing the game, so when the build releases, I won't have to consistently release small patches to fix up tiny bugs and me and a few other people have been hard at work creating brand new features and content, such as planes, new maps (read about them here), grenades, and much more!

    2 Massive New Maps Coming to Paint Warfare 1.7.0!

    .7.0 will be one of the biggest updates to the game, bringing forth massive changes, fixes and content overhauls!
    For the past 2 months, I've been secretly working on 2 new 4x4km (yes that's right) maps for Paint Warfare, to replace 2 of the 4 existing maps already in the game!



    These maps will feature a spawn select screen, new areas, brand new vehicles and more! The new Archipelago map will replace the old Tornado map, and a brand new Blizzard map (with a completely new layout and custom models) will replace the old map, with a massively larger fighting area.

    Paint Warfare - Devlog #2

    .0 will be the biggest and greatest update to the game!
    I'll be working on a lot of new content, maps and features for this new build of the game.



    Firstly I'd like to mention about some of the problems / issues brought up by the community that we'd like to address in this update.


    • Not enough players online, making the game unplayable
    • Players take too many hits to kill
    • Not enough customisations for characters and skins
    • You can level up to the max level in a few days
    • There isn't any story / the game doesn't make sense: a paintball fight in a tornado with tanks and bazookas?
    • Not enough explosions
    • Lots of bugs

    These are just some of the main key points brought up by the community, and I'll do my best to gradually address these (especially the bugs) in the upcoming builds.

    From this I've decided to split up some of these points into 2 massive updates (7.0 and 8.0), each coming out in the upcoming few months.

    6.0.2 Update

    This update features a completely reworked footsteps system, with 170 different SFX for different surfaces, a fresh menu, balancing, matchmaking fixes, optimisations and more!



    Features


    • Reworked footstep system, with over 170 new SFX for different surfaces
    • Reload SFX for the Chiappa Double Eagle, Beretta, MAT-49, UZI and Bazooka
    • Fixes to team deathmatch and matchmaking bugs

    6.0.1 Mini Update / Hotfix

    .0.1 fixes a ton of bugs (especially vehicle bugs), buffed and balanced vehicles, updated (and added) a bunch of sound fx, and polished a bunch of features implemented in 6.0.



    Full list of changes / fixes:


    • Updated / removed solid colour textures from some vehicles
    • Decreased amount of vehicles per map by ~50%
    • Changed vehicle entering to be the same across both water and land vehicles
    • Fixed a bug where a player would only be disabled locally when entering vehicles
    • Fixed a bug where vehicles could bug out if already entered
    • Buffed vehicle health
    • Made vehicles indestructable unless there is a player inside as to prevent people from gaining points by blowing up empty vehicles
    • Made tanks default to first person view to help with aiming
    • Synced tank turret rotation over network
    • Fixed issues preventing vehicle UI from updating correctly
    • Decreased boat sound range
    • Fixed some ambient sound effects (especially the wetlands one)
    • Fixed an issue where the user could select an insanely low screen resolution
    • Improved some animations
    • Med-kit now heals health before shield
    • Fixed a bug where that caused a team death-match game with 2 players to be on the same team when joining / respawning
    • Changed damage FX, removed blur and blood loss effects
    • Added new shell casings to TOZ
    • Added casing sounds
    • Added hit sounds




    As you can see a bunch of issues have been addressed, including some changes not mentioned here. Another smaller patch is also coming soon addressing the a smaller amount of other less noticeable balancing / bugfixes before the 7.0 update coming early 2020.

    Hey all!
    Me and a few other people have been testing the new build recently, and we've come across a few minor issues, though the general feedback overall has been really positive. I'd like to seriously thank anyone who's purchased the game at this stage and left feedback on how I could improve.

    I've combined all this feedback and will be making changes to the game for 6.1...



    First off I'd like to talk about some changes and fixes I'd like to make for the 6.0.1 mini update:


    • The player will be properly disabled over the network when entering and exiting vehicles
    • Med-kits will heal health first rather than shield
    • You will only gain points by destroying vehicles if there is someone in them (prevents people from farming points by destroying vehicles)
    • Footsteps will be silent / a lot quieter when crouching
    • Destroying a vehicle will no longer appear in the killfeed unless there was a player in that vehicle
    • You will be able to use tanks in a first person mode so you can aim


    These changes will be effective from the 6.0.1 update coming out later this week.


    Next up, I'll be adding controller support, keybinds and possibly russian language support for 6.1

    Paint Warfare 6.0 - Steam Release!

    Paint Warfare is a low-poly casual multiplayer FPS with large scale maps. team and FFA combat, fun and unique weapons, vehicles and much more!

    Features of this update:
    6.0 brings many massive improvements and features to the table, including vehicles, unique secondary weapons, and a brand new 2x2km tornado map!




    • Ground and water vehicles unique to each map. Wetlands features RHIBs and both the Blizzard and Tornado maps focus on tanks, trucks and armoured cars
    • New cutscenes! The Tornado and Wetlands map now have an epic animation when spawning
    • New tornado map! Cooked up a fresh new map with brand new models and textures, just make sure to not get sucked in!
    • Crouching! You asked, we listened. You can now crouch to get into those tiny spaces and buildings
    • New secondary weapons. Made 4 unique secondary weapons to replace the previous system. I'll be sure to add more if this new system works out!
    • Med-Kit! You can finally heal yourself with a single use med-kit (equippable in the armoury) instead of a bazooka.
    • New ways to score! Get mini in-game achievements that increase your score at the end of the round. Some achievements include: base capture, double kill, medic and roadkill
    • Security improvements and more. We've had some reports of cheating in the past, so we've upped our security. Data is now encrypted, and the game is now protected from running outside of Steam
    • A lot more!
